DNF at 65%

Thank you Netgalley for gifting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I was so excited for this book. It was an interesting storyline that I’ve never read before and the setting seemed like it was going to be beautiful. The story follows Shea on her journey to Italy and Portugal to find the history behind her heirloom engagement ring. The writing was very easy to read making the first 40% of this book very enjoyable. The setting, as predicted, was beautiful.

About 50% into the book, the twists in the plot started occurring. I started to not like where this plot was heading. I had to DNF at 65% based on multiple plot twists I don’t like and where the book was heading. I will refrain from giving additional detail as to not spoil anything in the plot.

However, while the twists weren't something I could enjoy, I can see how people would like this book. This book takes place in Italy and Portugal in hopes to find the history behind her heirloom engagement ring. The setting alone making this book enjoyable. While I was intrigued to find out the history behind the ring, the twists were nothing something I could enjoy and made me lose interest in rooting for the characters. If you go into this book, I would recommend to go in not taking her superstition too seriously.

Synopsis: This is essentially a story about love in several different ways. Our main character, Shea, is proposed to with an Heirloom ring. The only problem? She told her future husband she never wanted am heirloom ring because of the bad luck that could have come from previous relationships. The story unfolds as she traverses different countries and cities to explore the history of this Heirloom ring. Who were the previous owners? What was their relationship like?

Review: Most of this book takes place in Italy and I absolutely loved the setting. The writing makes you feel like you are there. I really enjoyed going through Shea's journey to find the history of this ring. You meet many different characters who each have their own unique personality. From her sister to her boyfriend to the tag along journalist and many many more, the story just keeps getting better.

This story was pretty unpredictable to me and I loved that. I didn't really know what was going to happen next and I didn't know where the story was going. I think the best part of this book is that the feelings in it just feel so real. Maybe traversing around the country to find the history of a ring isn't reality, but the concepts surrounding love, hard decisions, and family definitely are.

At some points there were just a few too many characters to keep track of and it took me out of the story a bit.

I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to others! It's a quick read but it's not all feel good romance, it's a tough look at life and love, which makes it feel real.

I really enjoyed this one! I loved going along on the journey of learning the origin of the heirloom ring. While we got to learn so much about the ring, we also got to witness Shea discovering so much about herself. The story was unique and takes the reader on a journey from start to finish. The plot had great character development.

Loved the premise. The characters didn’t draw me in, and I struggled with the superstition element.

I'd like to than NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for an ARC of Jessie Rosen's The Heirloom.

For fan's of Under the Tuscan Sun and Leap Year comes a story about love, family, tradition and a little superstition. Overall, I enjoyed this story and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a fun travel escapism story with elements of romance and family drama.

The Setting: The story takes place over a few different locations. From LA, Italy, Portugal, and Boston, Rosen does and excellent way at describing each location so you can feel yourself there and immersed in the settings, and culture. She takes the time to describe the infrastructure, foods, and landscapes beautifully.

The Characters: Shea is a bit frenetic in her pursuit of the heirloom she receives and rightfully so as you get to understand her backstory. I can appreciate when an author gives us insights into the characters as it helps empathize and understand their motives within the story being told. I feel like Rosen did a good job in developing Shea and though a bit vexing through this epic journey I could understand why the undertaking was important to her.

Rosen took care in also building out a great cast of supporting characters to aide in driving this story forward. I love a good story with a good group of people rallying around the protagonist. Annie, John, Graham, Rebecca were all solid supporting cast.

The Plot/Writing Style:
This story is about finding the origins of Shea's engagement ring and it leads her from Europe to Boston, back to LA. Though a bit far-fetched, to go cross the world to try to find answers to the origins of an heirloom engagement ring, I took this story for what it was a bit of travel escapism mixed with some romance and sprinkles of serendipity. That being established I found it to be a fun and enjoyable ride. The writing style was simplistic which made it easy to follow and the chapters were a great length. Some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy but all in all, I enjoyed most of it.

The Ending:
Without spoiling the ending I will say I feel satisfied and enjoyed the epilogue.

I can definitely see this being adapted into a mini-series or film and would definitely go watch it.

DNF at 20%. Although I can relate to being superstitious about getting a used engagement ring, I was already not liking where this story was going or the main character. It’s one thing to be curious and maybe email a person to find out where the ring came from. It’s another to knock on someone's door uninvited and for the person to be ok with it? Also, a journalist being interested in a mystery engagement ring like it’s a groundbreaking story is odd. Unfortunately, this book is simply not for me.

This was another book I can not get behind. How does one have so much money they just get up and travel to check on a superstition. From one country to another and when it’s over there is a happily ever after.

This was a fun story with a trek through Italy, Portugal, Boston, and New York. I couldn't relate much to Shea being so adamant about the superstitions surrounding an heirloom ring, but the stories behind the ring were interesting and intriguing. I enjoyed watching Shea journey through self discovery and finding what love and marriage really means to her. The Heirloom is a very touching and heartwarming novel packed full of adventure and I would definitely recommend!

Well this was a breath of fresh air! I loved this book of self discovery and travel! At first, I didn't know how I'd like it but the way the author really focused on character growth and development really connected me to them. I loved all the aspects of travel and loved how it ended. I think that this book will be a huge hit when it's released and I will sing its praises!

What a wonderful book!

Shea believes that an heirloom engagement ring can be bad luck. So when her boyfriend John proposes with one she goes on a journey to learn about the ring and the couple that it originally belongs to. This journey takes her to three countries and on an unexpected journey to learn about herself.

The Heirloom is one of those books that the more you read the more you fall in love with the book. It took me quite a few chapters to really get invested in the story. I Shea really just bugged me with her inner dialog and her lack of communication with John. However, her character development and the way the story of the ring unfolds really just kept me going. The ending was very well done as well and left me with that sigh that you get with a good ending to a good book.

Thank you G.P. Putnam's Sons for my free ARC of The Heirloom by Jessie Rosen — available May 7!

Read this if you:
🍕 daydream about traveling (or moving!) to Italy
🐈‍⬛ have superstitions that other people tease you about
🥂 need a cute, lighthearted contemporary fiction read

Shea's boyfriend has just proposed, which is great! Except, he's down on a knee holding out an heirloom engagement ring, which Shea's nonna explicitly warned her was bad karma for entering a marriage. Panicking, Shea alights on a last-second trip to Italy with her sister, hoping to hunt down the ring's previous owner and calm her fears about bad energy. A pain-in-the-ass journalist will help Shea along, but she'll end up stirring up much more than just the past with her dogged pursuit of answers.

This was a super-cute quick read for me, laced with a ton of Italian superstitions and family traditions that I could easily relate to! Shea as a character is a bit frustrating, but I think this made her more realistic. We can't always explain things we feel strongly about, which was clearly part of her problem. I absolutely loved all the stories of the ring's former owners, and I think it would be so fun to do something like this! Fortunately though, my husband did not propose with an heirloom so our marriage is safe 🤣

I can't say I loved Shea's choice at the end, but it was probably the right one. Definitely recommend this one when you need a fast, uncomplicated read to speed through!

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book especially since I visited Italy recently. I found myself back there with the descriptions of history and food.
I enjoyed going on the adventure with Shea and finding out the about the ring and the story behind it.

I highly recommend, I did not want the story to end.

I want to do a full synopsis with a detailed review but what it boils down to is Shea was an incredibly selfish person and I did not want her to end up with John. I think this was supposed to be about a journey of self discovery but she made so many poor choices I couldn’t even care if she allegedly grew as a person. Marriage is more than a ring and the second she questioned it due to superstitions, John should have ran. There’s no way I could recommend this book and I truly feel if this was real life they would either not be together or definitely divorced after the epilogue.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Following the lead around the world in search for the story as an heirloom engagement ring, the reader is brought through a story of a slight adventure through clues left behind by past owners.

I had a hard time getting into this story.
It was not as gripping as a premise as I thought it could be but I still wanted to give it a try. Once I got into the story, I felt myself wanting to find out what happened, but I wasn’t as excited to grab it and finish.

It was a very subtle mystery and very slight romance. If you are looking for a book that is whimsical, but can be put down when you need to, try this story out.

Italian nonna superstitions are very serious business, I enjoyed all the Italian culture writing into the book. The descriptions of Italy and all its food made me want to see Italy for myself. The adventure Shea goes on to find the story behind the ring was intriguing, I was very invested in the heirloom ring story.

I enjoy every moment of this story. It was very original the way Shea figures out what she really wants in a relationship. It starts with a Heirloom ring and a superstition which sends Shea on an Amazing Race type search to find the origin of the ring and if it has a bad or good aura. On the way to finding out about the ring Shea starts to finds out why she has these belief and if they are still relevant. She also has help from an unusual source who test her even more but in the end it came down to truly understanding why these superstitions still meant anything to her and why marriage spooked her, and she figures it out.
There is a lot of unraveling in this story and truly wonderful and memorable characters along the way and it was all worth it, and it made the end more sweet.

I want to Thank PENGUIN GROUP Putnam | G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGalley for an advance copy of this story about love and marriage.

"The Heirloom" by Jessie Rosen is a quest for Shea Anderson to find what she wants. She thinks she knows, but her quest begins when her boyfriend John proposes with a beautiful vintage ring. Shea is superstitious. Her nonna had a lot of rules for a happy life - most importantly never accept a marriage proposal with an heirloom ring.

She tells herself she cannot accept John’s proposal until she finds out about the love story attached to the ring. As the ring’s history unfolds, Shea considers her own love story.

I liked reading about the places and the people associated with the ring, but it just meandered to an anticlimactic ending.

A beautiful setting that I enjoyed but ultimately a forgettable story that won’t stay with me. I found myself skimming the slower parts. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my review.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Shea Anderson is a family-oriented woman, and keeps the memories of the women that have passed close in her family to her heart. Her Nonna believed in superstitions, especially those related to heirloom rings used in marriage, and these beliefs are ones that Shea has lived by as well.

The superstition related to marriage and the heirloom ring makes Shea uneasy when her boyfriend, John, proposes to her with a ring that he found at a jewelry shop. She wants to spend the rest of her life with John, but wants to know the story behind the ring so that she can go into her future marriage with positive energy. Shea takes an adventure through the United States and Europe to find the story about this ring.

I really wasn't sure how this book was going to go at the beginning of it. I thought it would be boring, shallow, and unenjoyable. However, I became more invested in the story as it progressed. I liked each of the stories that Shea encountered throughout the book and really enjoyed Shea's character growth. I would have been completely satisfied with any kind of ending that Jessie Rosen would have written.

"The Heirloom" was like "Eat, Pray, Love" without the devastating breakup. It's a great adventure in the name of love.
