This was a fun story with a trek through Italy, Portugal, Boston, and New York. I couldn't relate much to Shea being so adamant about the superstitions surrounding an heirloom ring, but the stories behind the ring were interesting and intriguing. I enjoyed watching Shea journey through self discovery and finding what love and marriage really means to her. The Heirloom is a very touching and heartwarming novel packed full of adventure and I would definitely recommend!

Well this was a breath of fresh air! I loved this book of self discovery and travel! At first, I didn't know how I'd like it but the way the author really focused on character growth and development really connected me to them. I loved all the aspects of travel and loved how it ended. I think that this book will be a huge hit when it's released and I will sing its praises!

What a wonderful book!

Shea believes that an heirloom engagement ring can be bad luck. So when her boyfriend John proposes with one she goes on a journey to learn about the ring and the couple that it originally belongs to. This journey takes her to three countries and on an unexpected journey to learn about herself.

The Heirloom is one of those books that the more you read the more you fall in love with the book. It took me quite a few chapters to really get invested in the story. I Shea really just bugged me with her inner dialog and her lack of communication with John. However, her character development and the way the story of the ring unfolds really just kept me going. The ending was very well done as well and left me with that sigh that you get with a good ending to a good book.

Thank you G.P. Putnam's Sons for my free ARC of The Heirloom by Jessie Rosen — available May 7!

Read this if you:
🍕 daydream about traveling (or moving!) to Italy
🐈‍⬛ have superstitions that other people tease you about
🥂 need a cute, lighthearted contemporary fiction read

Shea's boyfriend has just proposed, which is great! Except, he's down on a knee holding out an heirloom engagement ring, which Shea's nonna explicitly warned her was bad karma for entering a marriage. Panicking, Shea alights on a last-second trip to Italy with her sister, hoping to hunt down the ring's previous owner and calm her fears about bad energy. A pain-in-the-ass journalist will help Shea along, but she'll end up stirring up much more than just the past with her dogged pursuit of answers.

This was a super-cute quick read for me, laced with a ton of Italian superstitions and family traditions that I could easily relate to! Shea as a character is a bit frustrating, but I think this made her more realistic. We can't always explain things we feel strongly about, which was clearly part of her problem. I absolutely loved all the stories of the ring's former owners, and I think it would be so fun to do something like this! Fortunately though, my husband did not propose with an heirloom so our marriage is safe 🤣

I can't say I loved Shea's choice at the end, but it was probably the right one. Definitely recommend this one when you need a fast, uncomplicated read to speed through!

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book especially since I visited Italy recently. I found myself back there with the descriptions of history and food.
I enjoyed going on the adventure with Shea and finding out the about the ring and the story behind it.

I highly recommend, I did not want the story to end.

I want to do a full synopsis with a detailed review but what it boils down to is Shea was an incredibly selfish person and I did not want her to end up with John. I think this was supposed to be about a journey of self discovery but she made so many poor choices I couldn’t even care if she allegedly grew as a person. Marriage is more than a ring and the second she questioned it due to superstitions, John should have ran. There’s no way I could recommend this book and I truly feel if this was real life they would either not be together or definitely divorced after the epilogue.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Following the lead around the world in search for the story as an heirloom engagement ring, the reader is brought through a story of a slight adventure through clues left behind by past owners.

I had a hard time getting into this story.
It was not as gripping as a premise as I thought it could be but I still wanted to give it a try. Once I got into the story, I felt myself wanting to find out what happened, but I wasn’t as excited to grab it and finish.

It was a very subtle mystery and very slight romance. If you are looking for a book that is whimsical, but can be put down when you need to, try this story out.

Italian nonna superstitions are very serious business, I enjoyed all the Italian culture writing into the book. The descriptions of Italy and all its food made me want to see Italy for myself. The adventure Shea goes on to find the story behind the ring was intriguing, I was very invested in the heirloom ring story.

I enjoy every moment of this story. It was very original the way Shea figures out what she really wants in a relationship. It starts with a Heirloom ring and a superstition which sends Shea on an Amazing Race type search to find the origin of the ring and if it has a bad or good aura. On the way to finding out about the ring Shea starts to finds out why she has these belief and if they are still relevant. She also has help from an unusual source who test her even more but in the end it came down to truly understanding why these superstitions still meant anything to her and why marriage spooked her, and she figures it out.
There is a lot of unraveling in this story and truly wonderful and memorable characters along the way and it was all worth it, and it made the end more sweet.

I want to Thank PENGUIN GROUP Putnam | G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGalley for an advance copy of this story about love and marriage.

"The Heirloom" by Jessie Rosen is a quest for Shea Anderson to find what she wants. She thinks she knows, but her quest begins when her boyfriend John proposes with a beautiful vintage ring. Shea is superstitious. Her nonna had a lot of rules for a happy life - most importantly never accept a marriage proposal with an heirloom ring.

She tells herself she cannot accept John’s proposal until she finds out about the love story attached to the ring. As the ring’s history unfolds, Shea considers her own love story.

I liked reading about the places and the people associated with the ring, but it just meandered to an anticlimactic ending.

A beautiful setting that I enjoyed but ultimately a forgettable story that won’t stay with me. I found myself skimming the slower parts. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my review.

Shea Anderson is a family-oriented woman, and keeps the memories of the women that have passed close in her family to her heart. Her Nonna believed in superstitions, especially those related to heirloom rings used in marriage, and these beliefs are ones that Shea has lived by as well.

The superstition related to marriage and the heirloom ring makes Shea uneasy when her boyfriend, John, proposes to her with a ring that he found at a jewelry shop. She wants to spend the rest of her life with John, but wants to know the story behind the ring so that she can go into her future marriage with positive energy. Shea takes an adventure through the United States and Europe to find the story about this ring.

I really wasn't sure how this book was going to go at the beginning of it. I thought it would be boring, shallow, and unenjoyable. However, I became more invested in the story as it progressed. I liked each of the stories that Shea encountered throughout the book and really enjoyed Shea's character growth. I would have been completely satisfied with any kind of ending that Jessie Rosen would have written.

"The Heirloom" was like "Eat, Pray, Love" without the devastating breakup. It's a great adventure in the name of love.

Unfortunately, this one was not a winner for me. I was so incredibly bored and so annoyed at the main character. So selfish, frivolous, and unbelievable that her partner would be interested in her through all of this. And also unbelievable that someone would fly across the world and visit all these random people easily all for a ring. This would have been a DNF for me if it was not an ARC. Again, I’m sorry, I hate negative reviews, but I truly only enjoyed Annie and John (and that he deserved better)!

I had a moment while reading this book, when I realised this kind of story is slowly going to die out. You don't have to chase people around the world anymore when you can just look them up on Facebook.
Anyway it was a cute read, I'm so glad she didn't end up with Graham but for 2 people that had some deep feelings about cheating, they sure did cheat.

Due to her Nonna's superstitions, Shea has mixed feelings about the heirloom engagement ring she
received from her fiance. She decides that she needs to discover the history behind the ring to ensure
it will not jinx the relationship. Along the way, she willl discover misconceptions she had about her
parents' marriage along with information about the lives of the previous owners of the ring. She
will learn more about herself and others in her life.

I really wanted to let be this book. I think that for me, it would have more attention keeping if the storyline focused more on the heirloom itself and the history. It was an Inter story but the superstitious nature of the primary character became a little overwhelming. Thanks #NetGalley

How far are you willing to go to prove your superstitions are wrong (or right?)

Turns out, Shea is willing to go halfway around the world, all while blowing off her worried fiancé, alienating her sister, and getting cozy with the reporter who decided to tag along.

I enjoyed the premise of this book - a personal journey to uncover hidden histories of a recently acquired heirloom. What I didn’t love was Shea as a character. I found her inner dialogue frustrating and it impossible to connect with her as a character until the last few chapters.

The tension with Graham felt a little forced, and his character felt like a flat background means for Shea to realize she had more hangups about her relationship than just the heirloom engagement ring. </s> The kiss they share, the sneaking around in foreign cities, the conversation they have in New York about his feelings, all felt like it could’ve used another draft to solidify. I liked the aspect of her ideas and relationship being tested, but it felt in the end like she used Graham to get there, instead of him being a person she was developing feelings for. </s>

I liked the journey of self-discovery that happened in the last 1/4 of the book - I think Shea really figured out why she was so hesitant and worked through her shit. I loved the sisterly bond that was mended and the explanation of how family trauma and grief can infiltrate your life in ways you don’t even expect.

Overall, I give this book a 3.5 star rating, with the ending bumping it up from a 2.5 or 3.

I was already suspending some disbelief reading this book since I don’t believe in good luck or superstition. That being said, I went in with an open mind and was excited for the plot and how it would develop.

I’m sad that it fell flat for me! Shea’s anxiety and superstition is not developed beyond her statements and explained even less than that, which made it hard to sympathize with her. I found it hard to understand John’s reasoning too, since he knowingly proposed with the very thing that was not only against her wishes, but is honestly the biggest part of her personality…

The story itself had a ton of potential. I was just looking for more of everything. I would definitely pick up this writer’s work again, though. The style was phenomenal and I liked how immersive it felt when we traveled through Florence.

A huge thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

I’m finding this hard to rate because I thought the book was going in one direction (rom-com type vibes) but then it veered hard into women’s fiction, which made me like the storyline and characters a lot better, because I previously was so disgusted and disappointed in the FMC especially, but it was unexpected and I’m still kind of reeling.

This was well written, and I loved the descriptions of Europe; the imagery was strong. I really loved how everything ended up - morning was rushed, the conclusions were all earned, and I really respected the FMC by the end. I wish that the stories of the previous owners of the ring had been more compelling, however. I think that would’ve made the book more interesting, because it did drag a bit.

Overall, this is a 3.5 for me. I think I’m going to round it up to a 4, because I would’ve liked it a lot better if I had known it was women’s fiction (and it was my fault for not checking before I started reading).

2.5 stars- this is one that i think would be better suited as a film adaptation or TV. as a book, this dragged and i began to forget characters significance which is a first for me! thanks netgalley & the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review
