The lengths a women will go to put her ease at mind, following life through her Italian grandmother's wild superstitions.

While I found it a little far fetched at times, sweet read overall.

Beautiful cover as well.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with a digital ARC of this title via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I was excited after reading the summary for this title- a bride to be who embarks on a quest to find the previous owners of her antique engagement ring. She is guided by a deep need to disprove her grandma's superstitions that a used wedding ring brings bad luck, superstitions she has also set as her "love rules". It started out fun. I was excited to find out about the owners and cheering for her to get answers. But one answer leads to another question and another and another.. and all of it draws her farther away from her fiance. It got a little frustrating and not as enjoyable to read. I'm glad I stuck through it as the conclusion does provide a better resolution and personal growth.

Meh. This was very underwhelming for me, and I didn't really "buy" the obsession with this heirloom ring that would cause someone to fly across the world just to track its history (and take an open-ended amount of time off of work, and be able to afford to fly across the world on a whim, but I digress...*eyeroll*). I enjoyed the story and character dynamics, but not enough to really care who she ended up with in the end. I just found the entire premise and plot to be really unrealistic and unrelatable.

When looking at the description, I was so intrigued by this story. I’m definitely one to believe in superstitions, and fully believe I’m not having a previously owned wedding ring. I really enjoyed uncovering the mystery of the heirloom ring more so than anything else in the novel. I understand that Shea was kind of a lost character, but I feel like that prevented readers from getting to know her throughout the story. Also, the limited character developments resulted in me not really caring about who Shea ended up with at the end or who would be better suited for her. That being said, it was a fun read with some beautiful notes of self discovery and healing at the end.

3 1/2 Stars

Shea Anderson believes she in a perfect place in her life, with her boyfriend and her job. A lot she credits to following in her Nonna’s rules – avoid owls, never put a hat on a bed and make sure your engagement is not an heirloom. She knew her boyfriend John was fully aware of this, so when he proposed using an heirloom ring, while she said yes, she was full of questions. She realized that the only way to truly make sure that whole thing would work out is if she found out the history of the ring, where it came from, who had it and was their relationship good.

While physically Shea’s journey goes from LA to New York to Italy to Portugal back to New York, she also must undergo a mental journey from the time she was young to her mother passing away to now and if her relationship with John will continue. When the journey first starts, her sister is with her along with a reporter who is helping them find some of the history. But like any journey it is not always perfect, there will be some bumps and new paths to take. Shea will not be the only one who has questions that need answers, others will as well, along with some temptations the discover the realization of what love, family and more truly are. When these journeys are finally over the question on where her and John’s relationship truly is will be answered. Maybe for the good, maybe not so much.

This book is not so much romance as it is fiction, more about self discovery on how a person realizes that they cannot always fully follow old superstitions or beliefs in order to make their life happy. It also shows that sometimes what you remember in your past, it actually the way the way things happened. In order to find the right path, you can’t just go by the old ways taught to you, instead embrace both the old ways, the new ways and be open to seeing things differently. Only then will you be where you need to be.

I did enjoy the book most of the time, but there were some parts that lagged a bit, so I found myself needing to put it down and come back to it. It was one that was worth it in the end when everything finally came together.

I was intrigued by the plot (a suspicion of heirlooms that leads a young recently-engaged woman on a quest to find answers about a piece of jewelry and herself (obvs)) and it was definitely enjoyable and engaging to read. I breezed through it and would definitely recommend it as a summer/beach/vacation read. It reminded me a bit of One Italian Summer, so fans of that may enjoy this. While I didn't enjoy the way Shea treated/though about her lovely fiancee at times and I feel like we could've had less of Shea's internal monologue ( I appreciate when the reader is trusted more/there's a bit more nuance), I did enjoy the plot, setting, and ending! I'd personally give this a 3, but I think a lot of readers would really enjoy it and therefore I'm giving it a 4.

The Heirloom is about a girl, Shae, who has 4 rules for life and one of them is that she doesn’t want to get engaged with an heirloom ring. She is superstitious, thanks to her Nonna, and doesn’t want the karma that a previously owned ring would bring. So, when her boyfriend proposes with an heirloom rings she sets on a journey to find the previous owners of the ring to see if it’s full of good or bad karma. Her sister and a handsome reporter travel with her to two continents to find the answers.
This book was a really fun read and I really felt like I got to know Shae. I found myself staying up late a few nights because I couldn’t put it down because I had to see what the next twist was! I love how everything tied together at the end. I would recommend this book to people who love romance and mystery.

This is definitely a romance with a bit of a wild goose chase thrown in to try to find out who owned this engagement ring before it came to Shea. She has to figure out why she is so superstitious about pre-owned jewelry.

As someone who loves antique/heirloom jewelry, I was immediately hooked by the concept. And the fact that I recently spent two weeks falling in love with Italy was enough to bump this book to the top of my to-read list.

There's no question that The Heirloom requires a bit of suspension of disbelief (lots of things had to happen in exactly the right way for Shea to pursue the history of her ring). That said, the author pulled me in quickly and had me fully invested in both the ring's history and Shea's journey to figure out her own future.

While The Heirloom isn't exactly a feminist manifesto, I appreciated the stories woven throughout about strong, dynamic women and the choices (sometimes unconventional) that they make at pivotal moments in their lives.

Now please excuse me while I start researching trips to Portugal...

Jessie Rosen’s new book, The Heirloom, is a fabulous story of one woman’s search for the karma of an engagement ring she is given by her fiancé. During her travels through Europe and the United States to uncover the stories of the lives of the ring’s previous owners, Shea uncovers her own truth and conquers her struggles to embrace the love the ring represents. This story is a beautiful testament to everlasting love and the different forms in which that love comes.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest opinion.

What would you do if you learned you were gifted an heirloom ring? Do you believe there is the history of each love story woven in or do you reset the ring’s story?

Shea takes an adventure to find the love story behind her engagement ring. As she travels with she begins to truly look at what love means. The beauty of learning the story of others, we learn about ourselves.

I recommend picking this one up.

I loved, loved, loved the setting for this book. Nothing better than starting a scavenger hunt with nothing more than a name and a plane ticket to Italy! I feel in love with the book throughout the time they spent in Portugal and it depend my love for the book when they ended up in Boston. Overall, I think the premise of the book was a little thin… I don’t know anyone that would put their careers on the line to chase an heirloom. But I am also not a person who believes in superstitions or who thinks that superstitions are real.

I also did try to like the main character, but all in all, she was a self consumed, self-aggrandizing selfish person and I just could not find a redeeming Trait in her. I know John and her end happily ever after (as with any novel), but I will say that a man as kind as John, deserves someone better.

It was a fun, airplane ride read, but I don’t think I will be widely recommending this book to any and all friends. I think there is a small group of my friends that will enjoy this book, and I will share with them, but overall, it’s a book that serves as more of a “places in your bucket list to visit” than a cute romance.

Thank you to NetGalley and publisher Penguin Group for the opportunity to read The Heirloom in exchange for an honest review.

It’s a delightful book and I was intrigued by the premise presented at the outset that an heirloom ring carries with it the energy from the relationship of its prior owner. Shea Anderson had a long time boyfriend, John. Shea’s grandmother had passed down certain life covenants – more like superstitions -- to her she felt would ensure a happy life. They included avoiding owls, don’t put a hat on a bed and importantly – never accept a marriage proposal that comes with an heirloom ring. When Shea Anderson’s boyfriend John proposes with what he felt was the perfect, sentimental ring – she panics. It’s an heirloom. She says yes but can’t bring herself to put the ring on her ringer.

The proposal sets her on a quest to discover the ring’s history, its prior owner and the circumstances of their life, marriage and love. The journey takes Shea, her sister and a seemingly random journalist (Graham) with the idea that this is going to be a big story, to from California to New York and ultimately Italy and Portugal.

Rosen weaves a wonderfully entertaining novel about love, fear of commitment and how it affects your choices, believing in life long happiness, self-discovery and trust in one’s instincts, and of course grandmotherly superstitions.

The ring, and Shea’s travels reveal wonderful stories of romance, love and some sadness experienced by its prior owners but in the end, Shea realizes that it’s not the energy in the ring – but the love its wearers experienced.

The only aspect of the book I was conflicted about is how Shea treats a very trusting John as she embarks on her adventure with her sister and Graham. There is clear energy between her and Graham – and there was a point in the book I wasn’t sure this was going to work out for the once happy couple. Perhaps that was Rosen’s intent – but it made Shea seem a little self-absorbed and driven by her own insecurities vs. being on a positive quest.

This was a great idea and premise for a book. Although, I had high hopes and I feel as the book fell short of my expectations. I felt no investment in the characters and felt as if we were all over the place. I did enjoy the ending and the sled realization the main character gained.

I was impressed with this book. I chose it because life was feeling overwhelming and I needed a lighter, easier romance novel to take the pressure off for a while. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this book offered a lot more than that.

My favorite part of this book is the way it fed my wanderlust. The main character flies all over the world in pursuit of the history of her new heirloom engagement ring. Although it's not the most practical experience, it was great escapism to read about her trips to Italy and Portugal. The story had the characters doing some touristy things, like visiting opera houses, and some laid-back activities, visiting the homes of people from the areas. It was really nice to read and respectfully written.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the depth of the characters. Once the love triangle was introduced, I expected the book to follow established tropes for the genre. I was surprised to find the author writing about both love interests in ways that made the characters feel nuanced and genuine. There wasn't one obvious path for the protagonist to follow and the book was more interesting because of it.

This was a light, easy-to-read book, but it also contained a fair amount of depth and exploration about working through childhood trauma. Very interesting!

Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy.

This book had some meaningful lessons about love and relationships. It helped me evaluate the intricacies of relationships. I did find the book predictable at times, but overall I found the book to be enjoyable read with a few surprises along the way.

I really enjoyed The Heirloom. Shea had to solve the mystery of her engagement ring. She had so many superstions about heirloom rings from her Italian nonna! Her fiance was not thrilled, but supported her quest.... For a while. Their relationship comes into question during her international trip abroad to find the original owner of the ring. Lots of glamour and answering the as age old question, what is love?

Thank you for the opportunity to read this!
The premise of this really intrigued me: a woman, fully engrossed in superstition, goes looking for the true owner of an heirloom engagement ring to prove whether or not it will bring her bad luck. The story takes Shea to LA, Italy, Portugal, Boston, and NY on a whirlwind trip to discover the rings' power over love. As you can expect: its really a deep dive into Shea's own deep trauma and opinions on love, marriage, and commitment.
I liked this, but I didn't love it as much as I wanted to. An 'emotional cheating' love triangle is introduced, and I struggle with those sometimes, particularly when the lead is driven away from the clearly perfect fiance to the man of opportunity (in this case, a journalist) with very little backbone built into the decision. I skimmed alot of the emotionally cheating sections: they really just didn't sit well with me.
This wrapped up well, and Shea ended up making all the right choices, but I'm not entirely sure if they were for the right reasons. I struggled with the drama that drove the character: just not a big huge hit for me.

The Heirloom hooked me from the start. This was such an easy, fun read. I loved the story line, the characters and the beautiful locations. Will definitely be recommending this to my friends for a summer of 2024 beach read.
