What an intense short story! I have not read the book it sequels but after this I will definitely check it out.
The writing was easy to digest and the pacing was fast, keeping me uneasy the whole way through. If you are looking for a quick thriller to read on the train this is a great choice.
Readers would probably benefit and enjoy it more if they have read the preceding book first but i really felt that I didn't need to know that story to enjoy this.
Disturbing? Unexpected Twists? Psychological Thriller? Makes you say what did I just read? All Yes! This Book has all of that and more! Lucinda Berry is now one of my favorite authors! Go Lucinda Go! I can't wait for more books by this author. #AWelcomeReunion #NetGalley
This was a ‘sequel’ to Lucinda Berry’s ‘The Perfect Child’, following the Bauer’s and Janie 10 years later. In just 60 pages, you are warped back into the anxiety, thrill, and creepiness that was so beautifully created in ‘The Perfect Child’.
Honestly, I felt like it was too short - I was sucked in immediately and when I turned the last page I was disappointed that it was over. I wanted more, and it felt like things were building up and then it all just ended.
What’s for sure, this novella reminded me how much I love Lucinda Berry’s writing!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of A Welcome Reunion. This is a quick thriller novella that follows a mother and a social worker grappling with the release of a child who ruined their lives.
This was a quick, easy read, i believe about 80 pages in all. I did not see the ending coming.
Eh. I wasn't a huge fan of "The Perfect Child" but I thought I would give this short story a try since I wanted to see what happened to Janey. Well now I know and I'm not surprised. I'm glad how it ended but I'm not sure I would wholeheartedly recommend this.
The much awaited sequel to The Perfect Child!
This is a novella that really feels like an epilogue. I felt the first book was missing an ending and this finally gave me closure! Thank you Lucinda Berry for finally giving us this! I was shocked and satisfied at the same time! I loved it.
I enjoyed this quick short story by Lucinda Berry. I’ve never read any of her other titles, but from what I understand this is a sort of follow up sequel to her book The Perfect Child. The book centers around Christopher and Hannah dealing with the return of their formerly adopted daughter, Janie, who ruined their lives when she was a child. Hannah is convinced that Janie was just born bad despite the horrific abuse she endured in the first couple years of her life before being adopted. Janie now has her sights set on their son, Cole, and hopes to turn him against his own parents. Hannah does everything in her power to protect her son and help him see that Janie is not at all what she’s presenting herself as.
TW: child abuse, self harm (briefly mentioned)
When I opened this book, I had no idea it was the novella to The Perfect Child. I read The Perfect Child 3 years ago and it has definitely stuck with me. I think this novella did a good job of reminding me of things that happened without repeating the whole book. I enjoyed it. Of course it kept me wanting more though..
I’m typically not a fan of short stories, but when I saw that Lucinda Berry had a new book coming out, I had to read it! While I enjoyed this sequel to The Perfect Child, I was left wanting more. I felt like the ending was rather abrupt, and I would have liked more follow up. I felt like this could have easily been a full length book as opposed to a short story. That said, I did enjoy it and will always read anything by Lucinda Berry.
Thank you so much to Lucinda Berry, NetGalley and Amazon Original Stories for this ARC of A Welcome Reunion. I have heard so much buzz over Lucinda Berry and the bone-chilling stories that she writes about kids. As a mother I have been almost nervous to pick up a copy of any of her novels but when I saw her name I figured I would give her short story a try. After reading this short story I will definitely be picking up one of her novels. I loved the author's style and it really kept me on the edge of the seat, especially considering that I knew none of Janie's story from Berry's Novel "The Perfect Child." I can't wait to read it now as Janie's story of abuse, abusing, and now her "changed life" have me determined to read her original story.
Enjoyed it. As I was reading this short story, I kept thinking this would be a good premise for a book. I would have liked to read about Janie's life with Hannah and Christopher. Then I realized this was the sequel to The Perfect Child. Hannah and Piper were my favorite characters, probably because they were able to see Janie as a psychopath. The story was actually horrifying on many levels, mainly because there are really people like Janie out there. She was so manipulative and people fell for her lies. Hannah now needs to divorce Christopher and give all her time to Cole, he desperately needs it after falling under the Janie spell. Who knew so much evil could be in a six year old? Now she's eighteen and even worse. Gluing eyes shut!!!!! What type of person does this?? Unlike Christopher, I understand Hannah and Piper's actions. They were only saving Janie's future victims.
Definitely recommend the short story. The short story gives a good summary about what happened in the book, so it was easy to follow. Look forward to reading more books by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Amazon Original Stories through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this novella. This short story is a sequel to “The Perfect Child” which was one of my absolute favorite books by Lucinda Berry. This is a must read for those that loved that book. I had a lot of my questions answered and felt that there was a much needed closure to the main characters’ story. It was very fast-paced for about the first 75% of the story, but then came to an abrupt finish. I didn’t even realize I was reading the last page and said to myself “that’s it?”. It’s pretty short and I was able to finish it the same day I started.
Another great read by Lucinda Berry, leaving us wanting more!!
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me an opportunity to receive this ARC
Janie is back 13 years after The Perfect Child and she hasn’t forgotten the Bauers or Piper. Unfortunately for them she has a target, the Bauers’ young son, Cole who already had a brush with her as an infant.
I had high hopes for this after the end of The Perfect Child, I really wanted some satisfying closure for Hannah after everything she went through. Closure was indeed written, and I understand that you can’t fit much into a short story very well, but I wish there was more to this. It was incredibly rushed and felt thrown together quickly.
It was definitely satisfying, but I feel as if the ending could have been more extensive. Maybe we will see more of the Bauers and Piper!
Thank you to NetGalley and Lucinda Berry for this ARC!
I never knew I needed a sequel to The Perfect Child until I read this novella. It was so well written and gave such a perfect ending to an already amazing book.
The Perfect Child was the first book of Lucinda Berrys that I read and have now read everything she has ever written and I don’t see that ever ending!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
After reading the perfect child, I couldn't wait to see how the Bauers and Janie were doing. It seems as though Janie is still up to her old tricks, manipulative as ever (not surprised). Can the Bauers save their son Cole and end this once and for all?
Omg Lucinda Berry is one of my favorite authors ever, the kind where I'll grab her book without even knowing what it's about and this one did not disappoint!! I loved every second of it and wish it was longer! I flew through it, a truly unputdownable book. Can't wait for whatever she has in the works next. 5 stars, as always!!
I really can't leave much of a review, I just feel like I'm missing something. Is this short story part of a another book? I just felt like I'm missing the back story to this story. It was an interesting read, but I definitely wanted more to it and the ending was a disappointment.
I’m unsure of my feelings on this book, because I think I expected too much
First off, I didn’t know it was such a short story, The plot was perfect but the book focused too much on telling us about how bad Janie was but it wasn’t shown to us
I feel like I could’ve liked this book if I read the Perfect child first but this one on it’s own feels incomplete so I’d only give a 2 ⭐️
After getting a glimpse of that though, I’m definitely running to get the perfect child and all the other Lucinda’s book
Thanks NetGalley for sending me the eARC in exchange of an honest review.

THOUGHTS:
I want to thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for giving me the opportunity to read an e-arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Let’s start with YES QUEEN BERRY! Bringing more dark and twisty gasping jaw dropping words to the pages! When I saw A Welcome Reunion was coming out I about lost my dang mind. This book had me talking out loud to myself and the characters and I couldn’t put the book down for even one second. This book was absolutely a front to back read for me and I ate it up. Lucinda could write a book about anything in the universe and I’d read it and love it. Janie is mad y’all! She be crazy and I was here for it. Im not going to divulge much about this because I want to keep all of it a secret until you read it but you will absolutely not be disappointed.
