I enjoyed this one lot but unfortunately I felt like it left you with another cliffhanger and wanting more. I wish the story was longer then what it was. But I would give it 4 our of 5 stars
Thank you to Netgally, the publishers, and Lucinda Berry
When I requested this book I was unaware that it was apart of a series, one that requires you to read the previous books for this one to make sense. I am unable to read all the previous books along with this one before the publish date. Therefore, I will rate this a fair 3/5 stars and will adjust the rating and review when I am able to read all the books in the series along with this one.
It is a fantastic story, exhilarating plot, well developed characters, and a well executed shocking ending. I read in one day, unputdownable and very addictive. Recommend to every thriller reader.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Amazon Original Stories for providing me with an advance e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review. Look for it now in your local and online bookstores and libraries.
Thank you Netgalley & Amazon Originals for an eARC of A Welcome Reunion by Lucinda Berry!
Why did I wait so long to read The Perfect Child and this short novella follow-up, A Welcome Reunion!? I absolutely love Lucinda Berry and binged both of these in a day. This is a short story, and it's so good. I just do wish it was longer - You kiiiind of know what happens at the end, but I really wanted more of a conclusion and resolution to wrap up the entire story.
The saga follows Janie - Once a young girl the Bauers adopted - Now a young adult - Promoting her new tell-all memoir.
Janie has a violent and tragic past - And has killed more than once. Has she really changed?
I really really really hope Lucinda gives us more of this story and of social worker Piper!!!
As a person who has not read [book:The Perfect Child|40886917], I thought this short story did a great job of bringing me up to speed while still moving the storyline forward. It was disturbing and creepy. There is at least a bit of closure at the end, so I got the impression that that might be especially satisfying to those who read the first book.
This was a great continuation of The Perfect Child, loved how the story was wrapped up. The characters were well fleshed out and it was interesting to see how Janie was still twisting the story around even post hospitalization.
Lucinda Berry. Enough said. Everything she writes is AMAZING!! This was no different. The kid that gave you nightmares and may have been birth control after reading, has grown up and more HELL is about to be unleashed! This is a must read sequel to The Perfect Child.
Lucinda Berry is one of my absolute favorite thriller authors so i was so very excited to have the opportunity to read this short story early. To be a short story, this read really packed a punch and kept me on the edge of my seat.
This was wild and entertaining, as her stories always are! I never know what to expect but at least I’m always sucked in.
One of my most anticipated reads of 2023! I loved The Perfect Child, but like a lot of readers, was disappointed by the ending
A Welcome Reunion was a great addition, tying up some loose ends and also giving us more Janie
My only criticism? I would have preferred a full-length novel!
Disturbing and suspenseful!
A Welcome Reunion is a short sequel to The Perfect Child, and considering I haven’t read the previous novel, I was impressed by how much information Berry managed to cover in this story, without slowing the pace. It centers around a married couple, Hannah and Christopher, who are reunited with their adopted daughter, Janie, once she is released from juvenile detention eleven years after the ‘accidental’ death of Hannah’s sister. After a social worker assigned to the case makes startling new discoveries about Janie, the Bauer’s decide to take matters into their own hands.
I loved this short story! It was one of the last books I managed to squeeze in at the end of 2023, and I’m so glad I picked it up. I read the entire thing in one setting and couldn’t put it down. Berry’s voice felt unique but also fit perfectly into the thriller genre. The characters were intriguing, and their pasts were shocking to read about. The author’s voice was engaging and the story gripped me throughout. The last scene still sticks with me when Hannah goes to visit Janie—to warn her I had assumed—and the random last minute decision that changes the course of the ending in a dramatic way. My mouth hung open but it was also satisfying to read considering how sociopathic Janie’s character is. Themes of trauma play out clearly in this short story, not only for the Bauers’ but also for Janie who was essentially shaped by it. Her descriptions were immersive and the suspense was palpable. The ending was satisfying albeit a bit extreme, but I could empathize with Hannah after learning everything that drove her to that point. I will definitely be checking out Lucinda Berry’s other books in the future.
4.5/5⭐️
For readers who enjoy short fiction, dark topics, and surprise endings.
I honestly felt like this novella was unnecessary? It didn't add anything more to Janie's story...I guess I was just hoping we'd get more of a story about Janie's adult life than the direction this took...
I love Lucinda Berry her books are always great! The only regret about this sequel to The Perfect Child was it ended to quickly!
This was a great quick read that had a few twists and turns. This was my first read by this author and I’m looking forward to reading more from her.
A Welcome Reunion is a short story that is written by by Lucinda Berry. If you read The Perfect Child, you will remember Janie. She is now all grown up, She has a new name, claims she has changed and now wants to write a tell all including bringing up false narratives against her adoptive parents, Hannah and Christopher Bauer. She wants to meet with them, and when they refuse, she reverts back to her old ways.
Fun Fact - I was introduced to Lucinda Berry from Tiktok - and now she is up there with my favorite authors,
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
What a fun ride that was! I hadn’t realized this was a sequel. It was good on its own, but I may have been more invested had I read the original story. Very twisted. I kept trying to anticipate what would happen next. The cliffhanger at the end!! If things/people like this are really out there, that breaks my heart and blows my mind. I recommend this book. I may go back and read the first, but am also ok with this on its own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Amazon Original Stories for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Lucinda never disappoints!! Ever!! I read this in under an hour. Janie is straight NUTS! I would’ve done the same thing Mrs Bauer did because what Janie was about to do to the Bauer’s son was incomprehensible. This was a super quick read & only makes me wanna read more by Lucinda.
LOVVVVVVE perfect wrap up for the perfect child, creepy with such a good revenge payoff! Definitely recommend!
A short follow up to The Perfect Child......I was excited to see what more could come from the original story and after reading, I didn't find that this story was even worth telling. Some stories are better left to the readers imagination rather than giving us more.
