This was a fast paced read and I really enjoyed it! It was easily read in one sitting. The ending felt a little rushed, but overall I liked the story.
This is a follow up to ‘The Perfect Child’, a book about a family who adopts an evil little girl. The story picks up when she is 18 and out of juvenile detention centers claiming to be reformed and on her redemption tour. But the family who took her in knows it’s all an act and have to stop her from infiltrating their lives again. Was an extension to this story completely unnecessary? Yes. Did I have a fun time revisiting this crazy, twisted world? Also yes!
This is fast paced short story that leaves you breathless until the end.
Janie was a small child when she was found horribly abused. She was adopted by Christopher, the Doctor who treated her and his wife Hannah Bauer. They only had her a short time when they made the hard decision to return her to state custody. Janie is now eighteen years old and out of the foster care system and she has written a book detailing her life story. She comes back into the Bauer's lives and is she the same troubled girl or has she reformed ?
This story kept me on edge the entire time.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for a copy of this book for review.
A quick follow up to her previous the Perfect Child. This is just as eerie and disturbing as its predecessor. I absolutely love Lucinda!
This short story is the perfect follow up for The Perfect Child!
Highly recommend for all Lucinda Berry fans.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy!
Once again, Lucinda Berry knocks it out of the park! I need a part three! This was a quick, stressful read. Definitely recommend if you enjoyed The Perfect Child.
I read the story about the girl, who this book is based on. I think about it all the time! So naturally I picked this up as soon as I could.
Janie was a severely abused child who had been kept in a closet with a shock collar on. She was zip tied and essentially feral. She got out of the closet by killing her mother.
Then she ends up with a family who want to help her. She ends up killing a member of that family.
Anyway she grow now and she has written a book. The people around her believe they have cured her of her sociopathy and that she is ready to fit into society. Safe.
Her social worker and adoptive mother disagree.
This was so interesting!
The entire time I was reading this was like "why?!" This is true horror. Real stuff.
The end too!
I received this novella as an ARC through NetGalley, without realizing that it was a follow up, so quickly listened to the audiobook of The Perfect Child before diving in. A Welcome Reunion picks up this story many years later, including many details from the original story as background info. Having read these so close together, it felt unneccesary, but I could see how it would be helpful if there was a long gap between reading the two or if you picked this up as a standalone. I love how Lucinda Berry creates these well developed characters and how they interact with and react to each other. The continuation of Janie's story is just as disturbing as the beginning and leaves you wanting more. Definitely could see another book coming out of this.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Amazon Original Stories for the ARC of this book. All opinions contained below are my own.
A Welcome Reunion is a novella which continues the story of ‘A Perfect Child’. I do wish it was a full novel because I love Berry’s writing so much and would have liked to get more of this timeline, particularly Janie’s POV, but respect that she wrapped the story up through this quick read.
Janie is now 18 and has been released from the residential treatment facility she has been living in since life with the Bauer’s. As she is attempting to gain fame with her ‘tell-all’ memoir Janie is also re-inserting herself into the Bauer’s life.
Many details are re-told from ‘A Perfect Child’ but this would be useful if reading as a stand-alone. Overall, I think Berry does a great job wrapping up the story of Janie and the Bauer’s in the dark and thrilling way that only she can.
LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THIS! Dare I say I would have loved more? This started in the perfect spot for high drama and the ending was amazing
One of my favorite authors and this did not disappoint. I really hope that she continues with this family because it was a bit of a cliffhanger. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy. 4.5 stars
To begin, I must admit that I haven't had the chance to read 'The Perfect Child,' which serves as the origin story for this novella. However, after experiencing this gripping novella, I'm absolutely eager to delve into Janie's tale!
Despite its concise length of fewer than 100 pages, this novella had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. My only regret is that it wasn't a full-length novel. Nevertheless, I'm excited to embark on 'The Perfect Child' now!
Thank you NetGalley, Amazon Original Series and Lucinda Berry.
I had to put this novel down a few times it was so creepy and scary,
How can people damage children is beyond my comprehension.
Quick read

This short story is a sequel to A Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry which I absolutely loved!!! A psychological thriller about an evil child torturing and terrorizing everyone she comes in contacts with. This short story was wonderful and a great way for those of us who followed the story of Janie and the Bauers to see what happened some years later and how everyone was able to move on with their lives. We get to see what happened to Janie after she was incarcerated and how the Bauers were able to cope with the aftermath.
I wish this was an actual book that was longer with much more detail. Berry does such an outstanding job sucking you in that I wanted so much more. I wanted to see what would happen between Janie and Cole, and I wanted there to be more information on her time spent in the system and more on thr Bauers struggle to raise their son. I wished this could have been a real novella or longer because I felt like it ended too quickly and didn't give me enough time to fully immerse in the story.
But overall it was fantastic and just as good as anything else Berry writes. Highly recommend all her books to anywhere who enjoys reading psychological thrillers!!! *Check your trigger warnings!
Thank you NetGalley and Amazon Original Stories for this eArc of A Welcome Reunion by Lucinda Berry.
Okay, so I definitely did not realize this was a sequel. I saw Lucinda Berry and I did not hesitate to push “read”. I’m rating this 5 stars on here because that was my bad. Having said that, I would rate this 3.5 stars. I love a good short story and this hit most points. This was definitely a page turner, but of course I was a bit lost because I did not read A Perfect Child. Her character development was very intriguing. The son annoyed me though.
If this short story is any indication of Lucinda’s writing this will definitely not be my last book by her.
Thank you to NetGalley and Amazon original stories for this ARC! I think this was a great continuation of The Perfect Child and I personally really enjoyed it. The ending made me gasp out loud!
I love Lucinda Berry. This short story could have been a very great book. Not sure why it was only a short story.
It had everything there for an amazing thriller that all Lucinda’s fans would have loved to read.
I’m sad it was so short which was why I gave ot 3 stars.
Janie is out of jail, and her former foster parents, Hannah and Christopher couldn’t be more unhappy about it. Jeannie is not well, and certainly has a vendetta against those who she thought wronged her, and she will stop at nothing to get her revenge, and her psychological state makes her even more dangerous. A short story, but certainly one that gets you thinking, and move things along

I love Lucinda Berry & this was another good one. I have not read The Perfect Child yet, but this was a thrilling short story that definitely has me excited to read that one.
I really wanted to read this one,but didn't get it downloaded in time. I wish NG had a way to remind us that a book is about to archived.
