This book is probably aimed more at yoga teachers or trainee teachers, whereas I was hoping for a more basic how to for individuals who wanted to practice yoga freely. There is a lot of good and interesting information in here but I was personally looking for a more basic how to guide.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this! The first part felt like a little refresher from my yoga teacher training which I absolutely needed. Our minds get filled with so much clutter that it is good to be reminded to where we need to draw our focus. The yoga sequences were great and played out like stories, building on one another. I will defintely be referencing this book going forward.
Thanks to North Atlantic Books, Negalley and the author for an early copy.
As a student of yoga for many years I found this an interesting and helpful book, although not very different to some I already have, and maybe aimed more at the teacher.
I will follow it up once published as a paper copy as I find it difficult to follow poses on a kindle
Thank you to netgalley and North Atlantic Books for an advance copy of this book
The Art of Yoga Sequencing offers a good baseline for creating balanced movement sequences and well-rounded classes that cater to the diversity of modern practitioners. Sage Rountree's approach, grounded in exercise physiology and honoring yoga traditions, reflects a fresh and contemporary perspective on yoga sequencing and mindful movement.
It is the first guide on the topic that I've read, and that inspired me to become a yoga teacher, that is my next goal.. Thank you Sage Rountree for the inspiration!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the arc copy to read and revier.
Thank you for the opportunity to read a review copy. The book was well-researched and explained by expert Rountree. Unfortunately, it was far beyond my understanding of yoga as a (very) casual practitioner. Someone regularly leading classes would find this a remarkable resource, especially with the additional templates and information available on her website.
As an aspiring yoga teacher this book was super helpful to help me develop my practice further!
Thanks Net Galley for the ARC!!
A wonderful resource for yoga teachers and practitioners wanting to make the most of their practice at home or in the classroom. Not only does it give you ideas and structures, but it gives you the reasoning for why the author does those things in the order they're chosen. It also gives helpful hints for teachers, other poses that can embrace different skill and difficulty levels, and exercises for off the yoga mat to strengthen a practice. Sections also end with resources for further research, which I loved, especially for those of us who are more curious.
This was an advanced reader copy, so thank you to NetGalley and North Atlantic Books for early access in exchange for an honest review. This title publishes March 12, 2024.
This is a thoughtfully crafted book on yoga sequencing by a reputable teachers' teacher. With a well-rounded approach to sequencing and planning, the content is solid and would be a great primer for beginning teachers. However, the design and formatting looks very homemade and makes the content less palatable. This book pales in comparison to other sequencing books on my shelf that have more clear photography, better laid out sequences, and are visually more coherent. I received an early copy of this book, so perhaps the aesthetics will improve before publication.
Thank you to North Atlantic Books for gifting me with an ARC to review. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book by Sage Roundtree.
She opens, very importantly, by acknowledging that she is speaking to a Western-centric view of yoga asana and continues to present her method of sequencing. Focusing on movements of the back, spine, symmetrical and asymmetrical movements, she presents a number of sequencing ideas along these lines. There are great pictures of different poses and how to bring them together, but I wish they had been grouped together in a way that allows for similar types of sequences to be seen together - ie, gentle sequences and more invigorating flows.
Roundtree does discuss different types of classes in the second half of her book and brings important attention to inclusive language and the use of props. I loved the analogy of teaching yoga like cooking a meal - how can we set the table and provide options for people who don’t like certain things? A great point and perhaps my biggest takeaway of this book.
The Art of Yoga Sequencing will be a great resource for anyone wanting to help with putting Yoga poses into a sequence. It was nice to see different women in this book and they were all different. I recommend this book to anyone needing a little help with their yoga sequence. Thank you to NetGalley, North Atlantic Books for the ARC. I am leaving this review and it is my own opinion. #theartofyogasequencing, #sagerountree, #netgalley, #northatlanticbooks, #yoga

I have read a few books about yoga sequencing and found this one refreshing.
There are four ‘models’ used and they are diverse in how they look and their skill levels which is nice to see.
I appreciated the author speaking about traditional yoga and coming at the practice from the Western world.
The book felt easy to understand and also help to improve your practice whether you are a beginner or have been practicing for a long time.
I really appreciated the thought and care in this book. A perfect companion for yoga teachers developing their own style.
As a newly graduated RYT 200 and a public librarian who is part of the collection development team at my public library, I was very excited to get a preview copy of this book. I've already read Sage Rountree's other books so I knew this would be a good one and it is.
I really like the variety of flows and the pictures of people of various shapes and sizes demonstrating the poses. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the finished copy of this book and, most likely, purchasing it for my own personal yoga teaching book collection.
The book is a great guide to sequencing a yoga class and can be helpful to new instructors as well as those who have been teaching for many years. I used it to help me complete my 200 hour RYT as I had to submit several sequencing assignments to complete my certification. This book can also help yogi enthusiasts with helping to grow their personal practice. The book include pictures of yoga poses to assist with understanding the cues provided. This book helped me to become more creative in planning my classes so I can provide a fresh and balanced practice for my students. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed the art of yoga sequencing. I've read through quite a few books on this topic, and this was the one that I felt was easiest to follow and understand. I also really appreciated that there were various options for students of different abilities and l images were helpful and also diverse which is a nice change. Would recommend this book!
The Art of Yoga Sequencing by Sage Rountree is definitely more geared to yoga instructors, or those training to be. Even I though (a definite beginner) was able to pick out information that will hopefully help me to find MY flow, not just blindly attempting to follow random videos on Youtube that are way beyond my level.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Art of Yoga Sequencing : Contemporary Approaches and Inclusive Practices for Teachers and Practitioners- For basic, flow, gentle, yin, and restorative styles. This is a tutorial book aimed at teaching real students in a nurturing and manageable way. The book is full of photographs demonstrating over 30 sequences and will be a valuable resource for all practitioners. It is aimed at helping to create inspiring and well rounded yoga classes that are accessible to all. A brilliant practical book that will be a great help to those designing and planning classes.
This seems like an excellent resource for yoga teachers. It really goes in depth about all things yoga and the sequences. The diversity of the models is also great. I found that it was over my head as a yoga novice but it should be great for those with lots of knowledge to expand their skills.
This seems like a great resource to have once I finish my YTT. The book is well-organized, thoughtful, and modern. Will definitely at least request my library keep a copy on-hand! I might buy the digital version to save space.
Absolutely fantastic book. I am a new yoga teacher and found the sequencing in this very helpful. Easy to follow instruction and great descriptions and imagery showing poses. I have found myself referring back to this book a few times this week and will certainly keep returning to it. Thank you so much for the opportunity to see this before the release date! I will tell all my yogi friends about it upon release! 5 stars from me.
