I loved this fast paced book about the seedy underbelly of Hollywood and the film industry that tourist don’t see .
I felt it was well paced and reminded me of Kellermans’s books in the best way
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book
Hollywood Hustle was suspense filled. The key players were Winston, Claire, his daughter, Amy, Claire's daughter, Grover and Teddy, Winston's close friends. Oh, and Zeke, Claire's husband.
Thugs had gone to Claire's house and kidnapped her and took her 6-year-old daughter Amy. They took Amy to Win's house and told him that he had to pay a ransom for Claire. They told him that they would call him later with the amount. Win was an actor so they thought they would get tons of money from him. He'd had cancer and because he'd let his insurance lapse he had to pay for his treatment out of pocket so that depleted his funds. The deal was that the thugs would go after Win for money and they would divide it up between them and Claire and Zeke. But the thugs changed up on them and decided to take Claire instead.
Win immediately called Teddy and together with Amy they went to see Zeke. He wouldn't tell them anything so they went to Grover's house. Win shared his situation with his friend who agreed to help him in any way he could. Win asked if Amy could stay with them while he handled things. Grover and his wife had four children who welcomed the little girl. And then the call came. They told Win that they wanted everything he had. He called his bank and learned that he had about $180,000. That wasn't enough; they wanted more. He told him about his cancer and that that had eaten up all of his money, but it didn't matter. So he decided to sell his house . But when the realtor came over he saw that the foundation was slipping and he wasn't willing to chance it.
Win was at a loss. Grover told him to call the police but the thugs told him if He called the police, they would kill Claire. While they were deliberating, Teddy decided to go back to Zeke's house to see if he could get anything out of him. While Teddy was en route, a reporter for a rag had gone to Zeke's house and was trying to get information out of him. He had seen Win leave the house and knew something was up. But Zeke wouldn't tell him anything until the reporter showed him $1,000. Just a Zeke was starting to talk, one of the thugs showed up at his house and shot both the reporter and Zeke. Right after that Teddy showed up. He found a way into the house and saw the two bodies on the floor. He decided to go through the house to see if the assassin was still there. Now Teddy was an ex-cop so he knew what he was doing. As he was clearing the house, he went into the master bedroom and it was there that the thug saw him and shot him. The force knocked him through the window.
In the meantime, Claire escaped from the house that they were keeping her in. She ran out into the street and was hit by a truck. The thug assumed she was dead and left her there.
Win had told the thugs that he was going to sell his house and give them the proceeds. But of course that fell through. Now the thugs didn't know that. They called him again and told him that they would text him a location and for him to come alone. Grover wanted to go with him but Win wouldn't let him, he told him he didn't want to take that chance. While Win and Grover were at Win's house they went into the garage and saw that he had a 1968 super sport mustang that was fully restored and in primo condition. He had sold his other car to get the cash. He had the pink slip for the mustang and decided he would give them that.
So Win went to meet them. The rest I can't tell because that would spoil it. But suffice it to say that it was an above average suspense thriller. One that warranted five stars.
I have followed Jon Lindstrom’s acting career for years, so I was intrigued to see a novel authored by him. After all, I loved Dolly Patron’s first foray into writing. But then, she had James Patterson to help her. Perhaps she should give Patterson’s contact info to Lindstrom because this was a painful book to read. I didn’t like the one dimensional characters, the writing style, or lack thereof, or even the plot line. Too much description and a predictable plot combined to make for hours of my life I will never be able to get back. Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. I will not hold this one against you.
Hollywood Hustle by Jon Lindstrom is a compelling read. Well written with fully defined characters. Well worth the read!
When Ella hears of her father's death, the last thing she wants is to return to the childhood home where he subjected her to years of trauma. But motivated by revenge, she and partner Dan do just that.
At first, the memories of her past overwhelm her, but the move to Bittersweet Acres is more dangerous than Ella could ever have imagined.
Strange notes start to appear, Ella's behaviour becomes erratic, and she's sure that Dan is responsible for the bizarre events that threaten her mental and physical health.
He says he's trying to protect her, but nothing is as it seems.
This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary review.
It's fine. Prose is solid, pace is generally good after a little early trudge. But there's nothing new or even a little surprising here; villains are OK, hero is kind of bland, his gang of buddies pitch in to predictable results, action is by the numbers and maybe on the sparse side...and the outcome is never really in question. For that matter, even the execution of the outcome is pretty obvious. Lack of twists and turns, or even slightly novel characters, makes this a painless but not particularly rewarding book.
This fast paced debut novel is written from several perspectives which help make it a bonafide page turner. The protagonist is an actor, and the author’s own credentials as a respected, working actor make those scenes involving “the business” buzz. The plot deals with family, friends, addiction, opportunities taken and those missed. The main character’s introspection and examination of his life may provoke the reader to do the same. Some fairly graphic violent scenes are included. A recommended read.
Descriptionitis. I know it isn't a real word, but this author certainly suffers from it, as everything and everyone need at least two pages of description, and it's very tedious. When something finally starts happening, it's mostly based on stupidity and I started wondering if this was meant as a satire. But it isn't funny either.
This book just did not work for me at all. I couldn't engage with the characters and the story dragged. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this advance copy.
I thought the storyline to this sounded pretty promising. Sadly, the chargers were very flat and one sided, and it went from promising to predictable. Just couldn't enjoy this one.
I found this book very ordinary and predictable. I wasn’t really drawn to tge characters. This is generally tge kind of book I enjoy, but not grabbed by this one.
I love Jon Lindstrom on general hospital, so I was anxious to read this book. It was really good. I read it in threee days. Looking forward to more books by him.
“Hollywood Hustle” by Jon Lindstrom is the type of book that always pulls me in. A story about an actor past his prime, kidnapping, addiction and scandal. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get involved in the story and I felt no connection with the characters. Despite this review I think many other fans of this author will enjoy reading it.
Thank you NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books, and the Author for the ARC of this book in exchange for my review.
The story flowed well and the characters were well developed. I recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.

Hollywood Hustle is basically the story of a down on his luck actor past his prime. There is a lot going on in the book — kidnapping, murders, alcohol addiction, drug abuse, unsavory characters and a scandal newspaper publication .
It is also a story about family and relationships, friends and loyalty. It is all very interesting reading and one can immediately empathize with most of the characters.
This book is recommended for anyone who enjoys this genre and I thank NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read and review this novel prior to publication.
Man I loved the premise of this story right away. Doubt, fear, tension, and that's just the first page. I read the novel in two days, I highly recommend this great debut.
