Let me tell you about The Sunshine Club, the lovable novel about longlasting friendship, written by Dee MacDonald. Looking at the blurb I learn that...
You’re never too old for an adventure…
Eve, Nessa and Molly are all in their seventies. Over the years, they’ve laughed and cried and they’ve been by each others’ sides as colleagues, flatmates and mothers. And they’ve grown old disgracefully together in their golden years…
But all good things must come to an end. As one of their trio takes her final journey, a very large glass is raised to fun, frolics and – most importantly – friendships.
Throwing their walking sticks into the wind, the glamorous grannies take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about the highlights of their shared decades – their lovely old London flat, that fateful trip to Italy and the many holidays they had together, brimming with sun, sand and sangria!
And as an old secret unravels, they learn that love, forgiveness and second chances are possible whatever age you are. And that laughter really is the best medicine…
I definitely enjoyed reading The Sunshine Club. The blurb was what attracted me to the book at first. I do love reading about glamorous grannies, although I must say most of the book is about the lives they led when they were younger. Those lives were of course what led to the present moment, where one of the adorable ladies has passed away.
So what kind of lives did they lead? The three girls meet when they apply for a job as air hostess with Skyline in 1964. They all make it to the team and begin their training together. Not only do they train together, they also decide to rent a house together. They become the best of friends in no time at all.
The novel gives a nice insight in the lives of flight crew in the sixties up to the eighties. Working long hours, battling jet lag, but also visiting wonderful places and having parties non stop. It must have been quite an exciting, though draining life. Of course on top of that, every girl is trying to find love, a happy life really. But that is not as easy as it seems. Luckily, they have each other from the beginning right until the end.
The Sunshine Club is a lovely story that is easy to read. It is from time to time cosy and warm, but also downright sad in some parts. It is about life, nothing is all good or all bad. Life is a mixture of good and bad and the only way to get through it is together with your best friends!
Such a fast paced, flirty, and fun-filled story. A lovely tale full of hope and friendship for three stewardesses in the 1960's and
beyond. I enjoyed reading this book so much.
Fun read about 3 lifelong friends. Its heartwarming, funny and enjoyable. I liked following the 3 MCs throughout their friendship to old age. Thank you net galley for this ARC!
I love a good book about friendship and focuses on older ladies and their life stories — I was drawn in easily to the three friends lives as airline flight attendants— their history , their outcome, together and as individuals . Vanessa, Eve and Molly have been friends since the 60`s and we follow their life adventures after they met each other when they became flight attendants . This is a great story of a long lasting female friendship - I felt connected to the characters and found them relatable for different reasons. It was an enjoyable , heartwarming life journey of friendship. Highly recommended !
Thank-you to Netgalley and Bookoture for this ARC. This is my honest review.

All of the reviews of The Sunshine Club so far are incredibly positive, so I hate to be the one to ruin it, but this novel just wasn't for me. I think it's well written and has a lot of good qualities, but I just struggled to get into it. Maybe it's the genre, or maybe it's just because I didn't relate to the characters. Either way, if you enjoy other novels by this author or other authors such as Danielle Steel, I think you'll really enjoy this novel.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and author for an e-ARC of this novel.
The Sunshine Club by Dee MacDonald is a look through many years at the bonds between women through work, relationships, children, illness, and death.
This moves from 1964 to 2015 to tell the stories of Eve, Nessa, and Molly, who met in flight attendant school and traveled the world. They each have their say and while their lives diverge a bit, their friendship remains. There's a no spoilers secret here that makes this especially poignant. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A very good read.
Vanessa, Eve and Molly are in their seventies and were reunited. They then go down the memory lane when the trio met each in the 1960s when they joined the airlines together. What follows is the story of their friendship that lasts life time, heartbreaks, family drama and more.
I actually enjoyed reading this book and didn’t expect the book to be really good. The three friends traveling around the world, the different men they meet in their life time and the bit of family drama were all realistic and intriguing to read. Many of the characters are favorable and I like how these women kept their friendship for all those years. There were funny parts in the book that will make you laugh as well.
Overall this is an enjoyable novel and worth five stars.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

"The Sunshine Club" by Dee MacDonald is a heart-warming tale of friendship, adventure, and the joys of growing old disgracefully. Eve, Nessa, and Molly, in their seventies, share a bond that has stood the test of time. This delightful story reminds us that age is just a number and that lifelong friendships are to be cherished. With humour and heart, MacDonald explores the power of love, forgiveness, and second chances, proving that it's never too late to create new memories and celebrate the joy of life with friends who feel like family.
I absolutely loved “The Sunshine Club” by Dee MacDonald. What a perfect summer read!
The characters of Eve, Nessa, and Molly were so much fun! My mother is around their age and it felt so relatable and interesting to know what was going on in their minds.
It was so nice to especially after seeing the Barbie movie we as women forget we were all young once too.
We can relate and learn from each other in more ways than we know.
I don’t want to give away the secret that puts this story into motion because that would ruin it , but it brings about many different topics that really kept me hooked and reading well into the night. Female friendship of course..lol forgiveness, understanding, and how important the bond is between woman as friends. I greatly enjoyed this one! I think it was my very first book by Dee. I loved her writing style and felt she offered a great description to each women and made them all relatable and funny in their own way. I’m so excited for her upcoming work and I hope I get to read and share more about her books soon!
What a beautiful, heartwarming and humorous story about second chances. Molly, Eve and Nessa are in their seventies and have been by each other sides through so much. They decide to take a trip down memory lane.
A uplifting, feel good book that will have you going through so many emotions.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
May this be me when I am their age! I fell in love with the characters and laughed out loud with them as I was cheering them on! A great summer read that makes you realize every moment in life is worth grasping!
A wonderful story of friendship, hope and loss that I read in one sitting. Eve,Nessa and Molly meet at an air stewardess interview in 1964 and become friends for life despite their very different personalities. The story is told in alternating perspectives from 1964 until the funeral of one of the three in 2015. It was warm and I loved the insights into the days where air stewardesses were seen as elite and glamorous. I also loved the insights into different countries but most of all I loved the connection between these fabulous women.
I enjoyed this story of three women's friendship over 50 years. It was a fun and quick read. The characters were great.
what a fun read!
the story of 3 friends and their lives. all the laughter and tears and family dramas.
i throughly enjoyed this book it was a really easy read that couldn’t put down
I was immediately sucked in when I started reading this book. I went into it blindly without reading the blub, having liked the title. Being a person not able to travel for the past years, this book provided such an escape and I enjoyed all the places being described. Its written in a flowy nature and I ended up turning pages so quickly. Loved every page. I have never read any books from this author, but for sure this is not going to be the last.
Dee Macdonald is one of my favourite authors and cannot write anything but a great book in my eyes and the same is true with this new book ( although reading the acknowledgements interestingly this was the first book written ) it was flawless
A riveting story of 3 friends who initially meet at an interview to become air hostesses and then we are with them as they go through all the highs, lows, happiness and sadness of their very very full lives
The stories of their time on the planes were just fab,air travel was quite a thing back 60 years plus ago and the tales of what staff and passengers got up to were enlightening to read, every generation had its good carefree years, just in those days no one found about it 😀
I loved it all,the friendship these 3 had and their adventures and how their lives panned out
This author continues to write pure reading pleasures of books that I devour every word of
Awesome Read

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of "The Sunshine Club" in exchange for my honest review.
As a huge fan of Ms. MacDonald's 'Kate Palmer' series I was eager to read this stand alone book from her. It did not disappoint. It was the same captivating writing that hooked me on the Kate Palmer stories.
The story starts with 2 women attending the funeral of a friend they have known for over 50 years. This time we meet Molly, Eve and Vanessa in 1964 when they all answered an ad for air stewardesses at Skyline Airlines. Vanessa Carter-Flint with her cut-glass accent, totally expected to be hired by the airline. Molly O'Hara was Irish and was convinced that she would not be hired because she was too short. She had trained as a nurse and was planning to go on to study midwifery when she saw the airline ad. She has always had dreams of emigrating to the US. Eve Muir was from Scottish but had excellent French skills having been a nanny in Paris for a year. She has a strained relationship with her mother after having her son Robert out-of-wedlock and being forced to give him up for adoption at 2 weeks old. This has affected her greatly over the years since.
When they all make it through the selection process they decide to share a flat on Bellingham Road until one of them is snapped up by a millionaire in first class.
The story is told through reminiscences in 2015 and through the years. In 1971 they have been living together for 7 years - Vanessa wants to buy a flat, Molly is getting married to Mario, an Italian that she met while having coffee in Rome, and Eve wants to set up her own decorating business and moves into a flat above the shop.
In 1982 Eve is a training stewardess/route supervisor, Vanessa is a cabin service supervisor and finds that she's having a baby at 40 with the Captain that she has been seeing for her entire career at the airline. Eve meets Andy Mason who chips away at her resolve to never marry and have children due to the trauma of having to give up Robert.
At several points in the story an unidentified young man keeps going to Eve's flat but she is never home.
All the ladies have to deal with different tragedies over the course of the book. The end of the story circles back to the beginning and we learn which of the 3 has died and which 2 were attending the funeral. A wonderful, touching story with some elements that were true to the times that they are set in.
