This is the fourteenth book in one of my favourite series featuring Detective Gina Harte. Gina is called out to investigate a complex case. Lauren is returning home after a night out with friends to celebrate her engagement to Robbie. Finding their house in darkness she expects Robbie to be in bed, but instead she finds the body of Sienna, her best friend, in the bed. She has been strangled and Robbie appears to be missing. Robbie becomes the main suspect but it becomes apparent to Gina that Robbie wasn’t responsible for her death and that they have an unknown killer on the loose. Gina is shocked when her partner, Jacob, confesses to having had a relationship with Sienna he now becomes the main suspect. Gina knows in her heart that Jacob would never murder anyone but when an old enemy of her takes charge of the case he is not convinced, Gina then has a race against time to find the real killer before a Jacob is convicted. This was another brilliant addition to the series and I absolutely loved it. I eagerly anticipate the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is book number 14 in the series. This series just keeps getting better and better. This would have to be my favorite book of the series. I couldnt put it down. So much going on. Loved the characters , great pace and well written.
Great read
Fourteenth in the Detective Gina Harte series
And another brilliant book
Love this author and this series
Absolutely brilliant
Thanks NetGalley
This story begins with quite some tension. Lauren is out celebrating her engagement with her girlfriends apart from one couldn’t make it. After a fun night out, she gets home to her fiancé but instead of finding him waiting for her, she finds the body of that one friend who couldn’t make it to her party. Why is her dead friend in her bed? Who killed her? Where is her fiancé? There were so many questions right from the start of the story.
I have always loved this series and I absolutely adore Gina Harte. I love that her personal life has some stability now although there are unresolved issues with her daughter. However, it was nice to see her focus us on a case without being distracted by a lot else. Gina had a personal stake in this case as one of her team members was impacted and she fought with everything she had. The characterization in this series is quite strong.
This was quite well written and the pacing was excellent. It had me turning pages until the end. What a captivating, twisty read!
This was a fantastic book! Loved it. I can never figure out who done it. But this book was mind blowing . it had so many twists and turns. It was an edge of the seat thriller.
Great job Stacy. I can't wait for your next cliff hanging book!
Thank you Netgalley and Bookoutre for this ARC.
The 14 book in the Gina Harte series and it just keeps getting better and better.
I’m not going to give anything away but this was brilliant. Carla’s books are amazing and she quickly becoming my favourite author,
More please
Thank you to Netgalley, the publsihing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
This is the 14th book in the Detective Gina Harte series. I have really enjoyed this series and always look forward to seeing another book being released. Each of these books could easily be read as stand alone books, but I recommend reading them in order for the development of the characters and the underlying storylines.
Lauren comes home a little tipsy froma night out and crawls into bed with her boyfiremd. except it isn't her boyfriend, and they aren't alive. So starts the terrifying story and Gina is called out to the scene. Gina is pushed to her limits and doubted, but she always gets her man (or woman). I love the characters and look foward to the next book!
#HerHiddenShadow #NetGalley I love this series. This is book 14 in the DI Gina Harte series and it is still as fresh and exciting as book 1! It is perfectly capable of being read as a standalone but it does add to the enjoyment to know the history of the main characters. As always, this is fast paced, nail-biting and with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end. Can't wait for the next installment! A well deserved 5 stars!
Her Hidden Shadow by Carla Kovach is the fourteenth book in the excellent Detective Gina Harte series and what a brilliant series this has been and can it get any better? Once you open any of Carla's book's you will become apart of it.
So sit comfy, it's going to be a bumpy ride with lots of twists and turns that will have you gripped from the beginning till the end........
But, Watch out for the red herrings.......You think you've worked it all out.......Then Bang it starts all over again!!!!
This is what I love about Carla's books..........Once you start to read her books its hard to stop reading them!!!
I highly recommend this latest book and 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
Big thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Her Hidden Shadow in exchange for a review.
I am a bit of a fan of the Gina Harte series, all the stories are brilliant crime thrillers.
This book is no exception. It opens on a girls night out and a drunken woman crawling into bed with her fiancé only to find when she wakes that age is in fact in bed with her very dead best friend.
The relationship and bond that Gina has with her colleagues is really strong and it’s so lovely and well written. When one of Gina’s detectives comes under suspicion, Gina is determined to try and prove his innocence.
As with all the series this reads well as a stand alone. However I would recommend you read the previous stories first - they’re rather excellent.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
Thank you NetGalley, Carla Kovach, and Bookouture for my free ARC of Her Hidden Shadow in exchange for an honest review. The story is about Lauren an engaged young woman who returns home from her bachlorette party to discover her fiance missing and her best friend murdered in her bed.
This book just didn't do it for me. I found the characters to be quite unlikeable and honestly obnioxious. While I normally enjoy stories that are told from multiple perspectives, I didn't like this story jumped around. It felt unnecessary. I will say I was trying to guess the murderer all the way to the end, but even the ending felt rushed and unresolved. I know I am probably in the minority for my feelings but I thought this book was just ok.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of Her Hidden Shadow by Carlo Kovach.
Lauren’s been on a girls night out. She had more to drink than she could and went straight to bed when she got home cuddling up to her fiancé Robbie, but it wasn’t Robbie it was her best friend Sienna and she’s dead. A great start to the book and the twists and puzzles keep coming.
Can Gina and her team unravel all the evidence and reach the truth.
This is book 14 in the detective Gina Harte book series and the third book I've read so far. I received a copy from Bookouture via Netgalley and it came out on the 20th of September.
After celebrating her engagement with friends Lauren goes home, which is strangely dark, and finds her friend Sienna dead in her bed. Her fiancé is nowhere to be found. Was there something going on between Sienna and fiance Robbie? Did he try to end it and now has to run for what he did? That's where Gina harte steps in. She leads the investigation and hopefully unravels this gruesome murder and mystery.
This was again a quick read for me, just like the other books, as it really flows from the pages. The main characters have been developed extremely well of course, it being book 14, and you see that quite some detail goes into the characters but also into the story itself now. It's quite the thrill and together with some twists and turns you are just glued to the pages. The characters, the story, the writing, it's all connected superbly for it to be a great book. Just like the previous two books I've read, this book is also a recommendation!
5/5⭐
So many twists and turns!
A brilliant main plot that will have you second guessing right up to the end.
Fabulous as usual , I could not put this down . I have loved all the Gina Harte books and this was up there with the best of them for me .
Lauren climbs into bed after a night out expecting to curl up next to her fiancé , and not the dead body of her best friend ,the subsequent police enquiry turns up lots of evidence and unfortunately this implicates one of Gina’s own . Excellent as always 5 stars
Her Hidden Shadow is the fourteenth in the Detective Gina Harte series, that's easily readable as a standalone.
Can you imagine how horrific it would be to wake up and realise your fiancé isn't next to you, but the dead body of your best friend is?
The story is told from several different POV, it's gripping and full of suspense, is very twisty and I really enjoyed it.
Another brilliant read by Carla Kovach. Nice to catch up with everyone. This book has a few things going on several murders and one of their own at the wrong side of the law. Gina and the team also have to deal with another force coming in to 'help'. All dealt with very well. Really enjoyed and looking forward to next. Thank you for advanced copy.
This book has all the components of a great crime novel, a team of detectives who work like a well oiled machine and a particularly confusing case. I must have changed my mind a dozen times as to the identity of the murderer and still had a massive shock at the final denouement. I can't wait for the next installment.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
So I've been a fan of this series since book five and into book fourteen the series is still going strong, still holding the attention and suspense and to me that takes some talent.
Another riveting read that took you of a twisty journey with a satisfying conclusion.
Gina is a tenacious character who knows her own mind and she's prepared to go the distance to help one of her own.
4.5 stars
Her Hidden Shadow by Carla Kovach is the 14th in the Detective Gina Harte series.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Background: (Warning – Contains spoilers from previous books)
DI Gina Harte works homicides. Her team consists of: DS Jacob Driscoll, DC Harry O’Connor and DC Paula Wyre, with a lot of assistance from PC Smith and PC Kapoor. Gina is a stubborn lady, and a determined detective. She has had a rough life, which has led to an uneasy relationship with her daughter Hannah and grand-daughter Gracie. It has also led to a lack of real friends. She is in an on-again/off-again relationship with her boss, DCI Chris Briggs, but they keep it quiet. It is also not common knowledge that Gina's husband was abusive, and only Briggs knows that she did not save him when he fell to his death many years ago.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Lauren has a girls night out to celebrate her engagement to Robbie, but when she gets home, she finds her fiancé missing. Instead, her best friend Sienna (who didn't show up for the party) is in her bed...dead.
Lauren is having a hard time reconciling the fact that Sienna and Robbie may have had a closer relationship than she thought. How could she be so wrong about her best friend and her fiancé? And where is Robbie? Lauren stays with her mom Nancy while the police investigate, but Nancy has a secret of her own.
Meanwhile, Tiffany is still reliving the nightmare of a man trying to strangle her with her own scarf, and she often sleepwalks.
These people will be tied together, and a very close colleague of Gina's will also be involved. Meanwhile, Gina's old boss will insinuate herself back in Gina's life.
My Opinions:
I enjoyed the book, but there were a LOT of unlikable characters in this one. I did not like any of the victims or their families. Apparently I was not wrong in this, and had picked out the main perpetrator early on. However, there was another twist that I had not seen coming!
There was so much going on, this was a great read! The plot was intriguing, and the writing, as always, was smooth. Gina's team is wonderful, and in this one they all got behind one of their own. They truly are a family...and family seemed to be one of the topics of this novel (for good, or bad).
This is definitely a series worth reading (and you must read them in order!) I'm looking forward to Book 15!
