This is the first book I’ve read in the Gina Harte series and I enjoyed it, although the killer was obvious from very early on and so that did take away the anticipated suspense and tension.

I really liked Gina, Jacob and Briggs as characters and I found the writing style easy to follow with a good pace.

Had it not been so clear from early on who the killer was, this would have been a fantastic book.

2.5/3 ⭐️

Thanks to Netgalley, Carla Kovach and Bookouture for an ARC in return for my honest review.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Hidden Shadow’, book 14 in the Detective Gina Harte series written by Carla Kovach, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Lauren returns home to the house she shares with her fiancé Robbie after an evening out with her friends celebrating their engagement. She gets ready for bed but instead of finding Robbie waiting for her she comes sees the dead body of her best friend Sienna in their bed. When DI Gina Harte and her team arrive at the house Lauren says there was someone outside her bedroom door but they can’t speak to Robbie as he’s missing.

‘Her Hidden Shadow’ is a police crime thriller led by DI Gina Harte that causes her to decide who she trusts and follow her instincts. The well-written plot is intricately woven with drama, suspense and twists and turns, and the further I read the more the tension increased until I was unable to stop reading. I made a guess early on as to the identity of the killer and it was nice for once to be proved right. I always look forward to reading Ms Kovach’s thrillers which for me are compulsive reading and written in a style that keeps me totally involved. I think this thriller has to be one of the best in the series and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This book gives new meaning to nail biting suspense. You may also need oxygen because this one is a sprint. Lauren has been out with her friends celebrating her engagement. She is a little upset that her best friend, Sienna, did not bother to show up, but she decides it was her loss. When she arrives home, she is very intoxicated, and she falls into bed thinking her future husband, Robbie, is in the bed. Much to her surprise and horror, it is not Robbie, but a woman's dead, bloody body. After screeching at a decibel level to shatter glass, she realizes with even more horror that the dead woman is none other than Sienna. Unbeknownst to her, the killer is lurking in the shadows watching her with evil glee in their heart.

Detective Gina Harte and her team are called to the scene of the crime. If you have read a Gina Harte novel, you know that this highly intelligent lady does not miss much. The rest of the book is the investigation into the creep who is prowling their neighborhood. The tension level in this book was off the charts. I was frantically pecking on my Kindle trying to get to the end. I would recommend reading this book in the daylight hours because the creep factor is high as well. This was a terrific crime thriller which would definitely also fall into the psychological thriller category as well because Carla Kovach will play with your mind as you race through the pages thinking you know what is going to happen only to find out there is another wicked twist in the plot. I suspected almost every character in this book at one point and time. This is a one sitting book that you will not soon forget.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Loved it!! The Detective Gina Harte Series is definitely one of my favorites. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put the book down because I had to know who killed Sienna. Detective Superintendent Sullivan was a nightmare. It was obvious Sullivan hated Gina. Sullivan's team had tunnel vision on who they thought was the killer and wouldn't listen to anyone, especially not Gina. I knew it couldn't be him and had to be someone else. There were so many twists and turns. I was suspicious of so many people. Add in Nancy's destructive activism and even more people could be on the list of possible killers. The test messages Nancy received were scary. I had a little niggling on who it might be, but I wasn't sure why this person would do this. I was definitely shocked when everything was finally revealed. The one person was on my killer list but not the other. The book kept me guessing until the very end. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Definitely recommend the book and the previous ones in the series. This was a great mystery/thriller. Loved the characters, writing style and story. I can't wait to find out what's next for Det. Gina Harte. So glad DCI Briggs and Gina are still a couple. What's going to happen when everyone finds out? Look forward to reading more books by the author. Loved the book cover.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Her Hidden Shadow is the fourteenth Detective Gina Harte book. I've only recently discovered this series, so I've only read one of the prior books. I know there are some details about the background of the characters that I'm missing, but I still enjoyed the book. Gina is smart, brave, and loyal to her team. In this book, she gets called to the scene of a crime in which a woman returns home from a celebration with friends, only to find her best friend in her bed, murdered. Her fiance who should be home waiting for her is nowhere to be seen.

The case takes an unexpected turn that pushes Gina from her role as lead investigator, forcing her to temporarily report to someone she had problems with in the past. (Even without this obstacle, Gina's life is complicated since her usual boss is also secretly her on-and-off again boyfriend!) I don't enjoy the conflicts between Gina and her temporary boss, who seems like a horrible person, but overall I enjoyed the book. The book is an interesting procedural that will keep you guessing as to who the killer really is. I enjoyed how things are wrapped up at the end and I would like to read more books in this series.

I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Bookouture, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

My goodness what a roller coaster of a ride, as well as Gina and her team, and a prior difficult manager, there was the crime itself. There were so many twists and turns here that it made for addictive reading and it definitely was a late night read as I needed to get it finished to know what happened.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and bookouture but the review is entirely my own.

Her Hidden Shadow is the fourteenth book in the Detective Gina Harte series. This series just keeps getting better and better. The stories are twisted and Gina is able to come thru at the very end with her team who have her back.

This one starts out with bachelorette party for Lauren. She returns home to find that her best friend is dead in her bed and Robbie, her fiancé is missing. Lauren calls the police and Gina's team responds.

Jacob is Gina's partner and has been acting odd for quite a while. After the autopsy, Jacob goes home sick. He eventually admits that he had a one-night stand with the deceased. He becomes Sullivan's suspect for all the murders and attempted murders which follow. Sullivan is Gina's former boss and zeroes in on making Gina's life miserable while trying to work the case. Gina will have her hands full as every lead is questioned by Sullivan in an attempt to get rid of Gina.

This was an amazing thrill ride. The clues kept pointing in one direction and then another until the real culprits are revealed. This is a fantastic series. Each book grabs your attention and never lets you go until the very end. I highly recommend this book as well as the whole series. You won't be disappointed.

Book 14 of the Detective Gina Harte series and although I haven’t read all of the earlier books this is probably the best of the ones I’ve read and, as always, reads well as a stand-alone. Gina is a wonderful feisty character and a brilliant police officer however both her personal and work life have been fraught with problems. Not so much of Gina’s personal life in this book but there is an investigation into one of her colleagues and her old nemesis is back on her case, determined to catch her out!

Briefly, Lauren gets home after a night out celebrating her engagement. Slightly the worse for wear she stumbles into bed but finds that instead of her fiance Robbie, her best friend Sienna is lying beside her, dead. There is no sign of Robbie but she hears a sound outside her room. Who else is there?

Told from various POV’s this is a very good police procedural, well written and easy to read but with plenty of twists and turns. Various threads all weave together seamlessly and fans old and new will enjoy this thrilling story. A brilliant page turner.

Gripping to the end!

The latest book in Carla Kovach’s DI Harte series will leave fans in knots with every twist, turn and revelation that comes to light.

Gina has to take a secondary role in the investigation into a double homicide when a superior from her early days is brought in to oversee the investigation, but as the women clash, one thing is clear, Gina is full of heart and determination, she will work hard to find the truth, not surrender to the easy conclusion. This story will have you hoping she is right, that she will solve the case, that at the end, her team, their tenacity, loyalty and friendship will see justice served.

Carla crafted an enthralling mystery that captured my attention from start to finish. With each installment, this series continues to surpass my expectations and leave me wanting more.

Ooh! 🛌Why are they unsafe in their beds?!😳

4.5🌟stars
This Detective Gina Harte British whodunit police procedural had all the twists, action and drama that I like and expect from books in this series, of which I've read more than a few. And the added tension of Gina working for an old nemesis and one of her team under suspicion added that extra something to Gina's struggle to find the killer before more lives are endangered. It's a good plot and well-written. Gina is my kind of policewoman. She's relentless in her search for the truth, willing to risk it all to get the just result and super supportive of her subordinates.

Just a few, minor things bothered me:
--Nancy, a concerned middle-aged mom, getting deeply involved in eco terrorism just seemed a bit too much;

--a key piece of evidence is an earring worn to bed by one of the victims. Really?! What was she doing wearing earrings to bed? and

-- I think the cover byline is all wrong for this plot.

Nevertheless, it's a story I can definitely recommend.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

I was a little worried when I realized this book was a part of a series since I’ve not read any of them, but it did not matter, I never felt like I missed out anything or didn’t understand something. I now want to go back & read all the other books in this series because it was that good! I loved getting to know the detective & I could feel her passion for her job. I really wasn’t picturing the twist at all until the same time the detective was, but even then I still didn’t fully expect the twist that was in store.

Detective Gina Harte is exploring a renewed romantic relationship with her boss and trying to keep it secret from the rest of her team. The new case she lands involves the murder of a young woman and the disappearance of a man. The body of the murdered female is discovered by her best friend in the bed where the best friend's fiance should be -- who is missing and the obvious suspect in the murder. The investigation takes many twists and turns and is complicated when Gina's partner is a suspect. An outside lead detective and her assistant are brought in to replace Gina as the lead. Ultimately, Gina must take extraordinary steps to prove her partner's innocence and find the actual perpetrator. It's an interesting story. Gina is a great character to follow along in her life's journey.

This author can do no wrong and her latest Her Hidden Shadow in my opinion is one of her best. This is a crazy thrill ride, packed to the rafters with tension and suspense. As usual with this series it goes straight to the top of my reading pile. I devoured this book in one sitting and only came up for breath after I had turned the last page. Another fantastic five star addition to one of my favourite series. So highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the Arc in return for an honest review.

This is the 14th book in this series and it never gets dull, as each book arrives you know that is more than likely going to be better than the last.

I loved being back with Gina and the team in this case where we have another great story. Lauren stumbles home from a night out ready to join her boyfriend Robbie in bed but when she gets in it is not Robbie she is about to cuddle up to but one of her friends Sienna and she is very, very dead. This sets up the story where once again we have all sorts of lies and secrets to uncover to find out what is really going on. Soon we will have another body and the story gets even better.

While the case is going on Gina will also have her own struggles coming face to face with Sullivan an old rival from the past that is out to make her life as difficult as possible and Gina is out to prove herself and her team are up the job. She is also out to prove the innocence of one of her closet colleagues and again Gina's determination is what will shine through.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own.

Her Hidden Shadow was one roller coaster of a ride that I didn’t think I was ever going to get off!
What an intense plot!
This is book 14 in the series. Though the books can be read as standalone, I do recommend you read the series in order. There is so much backstory to DI Gina Harte and her team.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Definitely recommended!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author, Carla Kovach, for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Her Hidden Shadow by Carla Kovach
I give this book 4.5 stars

Her perfect night out just became her worst nightmare…
Lauren returns home from celebrating her engagement. When she opens the bedroom door, she immediately knows something is wrong, instead of her fiancé, in the bed lies the lifeless body of a young woman.
As Lauren’s scream beaks the silence, someone stands outside the bedroom, tracking her every move.

This can easily be read as a standalone but is part of one of my favourite detective series (Gina Harte) For me the more books I read the better it gets! The characterisation is developed and dimensional ,Gina is someone I’ve come to care about, the plot lines are always layered and gripping, the police procedural is realistic, perfect pacing from the first to last chapter and relevant issues are woven into the storylines. If you’re looking for a strong protagonist and an engrossing crime thriller this author is the one for you.
With thanks to Carla Kovach, netgalley and Bookouture for my chance to read and review this book.

I honestly don’t know how the author does it. Not only does she deliver a fabulous new follow up to the previous one in the series she absolutely knocks all of your suspicions off kilter and delivers another novel that catches you off guard!

This novel was another fabulous addition that absolutely gripped me. The familiarity of Gina Harte’s team brings you back into the fold like you never left.

With another jam packed case with suspects thrown all over the place you just never quite know where the story is heading and who you should be suspicious of.

I was fooled… again.

Brilliantly written storyline again with what I hope isn’t too much of a wait until the next.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this eARC.

I'm late in finding this author and reading her DI Gina Harte books and have only read the more recent ones in this series. I will at some point start from the beginning and read them in order to get up to date.

Wow, this is one very, VERY good police procedural. The author certainly knows how to connect with her readers and set a scene that gives Her Hidden Shadow the best start that grabbed my attention and drew me in straightaway. Here DI Harte and her team investigate a murder. I really like DI Harte, she is determined, feisty and follows her instincts. I found this to be a well written book that flows easily, with a great writing style which makes the book easy to follow and a pleasure to read. I like that the story is told through different characters and their perspectives, and think the author creates so much tension, suspense and intrigue here that makes this one hell of a page turning read where I just needed to know more. There are so many different threads to hold my interest and at times I didn't know where they were going or how they'd fit together which made this such a moreish read that I would pick up whenever I could to carry on reading. Most of the characters are likeable although there were a few I absolutely loathed. I think the plot line is intricate and so well thought out, it grabbed my attention early on and held it all the way through, although I did guess who the killer was. The ending is very fitting, it gives good closure and I'll be looking forward to the next book.

Overall this is a great read, the best one out of the 5 I've read so far and one I loved. It really hit the mark with me and I can't fault it. It can be read as a standalone although if you're new to this author I think you're best to start at the beginning in order to get to know the characters from the start. If you like police procedurals you'll enjoy this, and I'd recommend it.
