Another cracker by Carla, I think this one is my favourite, so far the Gina Harte books that I have read.
Of course, I loved it too because one of the main protagonists has my name!
Lauren arrives home after a night out to find a dead body in her bed and her fiance is missing!
This one had me very invested in the story and kept me guessing for most of the book. As always with a Gina Harte mystery, there's more than just the crime/murder to solve, and I have enjoyed getting to know her better with each book. I rather enjoyed the serial criminal aspect of this one.
I felt sorry for Gina with her 'superior' who was not very nice and had a little feeling of glee at the outcome.
As always, I look forward to the next in the series.
Whilst this is book 14 it's not necessary to read the previous books in the series, but if you love connecting with a character in a series I would read as many as possible because her story does develop.
What can I say? The same as everyone else - Carla Kovach and the Gina Harte series ROCKS!! The stories never get old and each one is better than the last. This is a must-read series. Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.
Absolutely fantastic - another great read from Carla Kovach. The woman knows how to tell a story and still keep you coming back for me 14 books on!
5/5
Was so excited to read the next instalment of the Gina Harte series and this was one of the best! Great plot and characters with lots of suspense. I love her character and her relationship with her team and Briggs. 100% recommend
As a huge Detective Gina Harte fan who has been reading since book one, I was excited to read “Her Hidden Shadow”. One of the things I love about this series is you can pick up a book at any point in the series and never feel lost. The mysteries are all independent and can stand alone. The characters stay true to themselves throughout the series and book. I love trying to figure out who the murderer is before the end of the book. This was no exception and the author gives us plenty of clues and red herrings to help us during the investigation. I can guarantee that if you read this one, you’ll want to read them all!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
W.O.W book 14 .allready.
Thanks to Bookouture and netgalley for this arc.. This has to be one of my favourite series, and it's getting better by the book. Everything is still as fresh as book 1 to me. Gina and the team are called into investigate a case involving a young lady murdered in a house she doesn't live in, and the owner vanished!!!!! That's just the start.
Lies, secrets, murder,in a circle of friends, this book has it all. When one of Gina's team is bought in for questioning and the evidence stacked against him, can gina prove his innocence, or did he do it?????? What is he hiding? This is a book full of twists, i was on the edge of my seat thinking i had worked it all out, only to find out i was wrong. Lots more, D.I .Gina Harte, please. Highley recommend
Really enjoyed it as I do all her books it’s great to catch up with Gina and her team but is quite worrying as one of her team is in a lot of trouble.
Lauren goes out with her friends for a night out and is disappointed that her best friend never turned up but when she arrives home a little drunk her worst nightmare begins I loved the characters and all the twists and turns.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Lauren returns from a night out to find one of her friends dead in her bed. DI Gina Harte and her team investigate, but when the evidence points to one of the team things start to go wrong. Gina’s old supervisor is called in to handle the case, and time has not mellowed Sullivan. It’s a race against time to prevent on of the team being charged for murder!
Love this series. This was one of the best ones. I liked how their was much less focus on Gina’s personal life-her daughter Hannah comes across as spoilt and is not a nice character. I love the team dynamics in these books. This had plenty of red herrings and twist and turns. I did have my suspicions as to who the murderer was early on (and was proven correct) but this didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the story. 5stars!
Gina is back with a bang!
Wow such a fantastic read. I’m still very new to this series but Carla Kovac is a fantastic author and can certainly spin a tale and keep me racing to the end!
This story was particularly interesting because it would appear unsolvable. There’s so many twists and turns and big revelations that the reader will be undoubtedly hooked.
Out of the few books I’ve read so far from this series this one didn’t really focus on Gina as a character. So for that I’d say if it’s your first in the series you’ll have a lot of questions about who she is and what makes her tick. As mentioned I have read a few prior to this one and know a little about her character but all the same I think I’m going to have to start from the beginning of this series to really get a feel for her.
An exhilarating read and a brilliant ‘who dunnit’. Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it will NOT be the last! This mystery immediately had my attention! Loved the level of action and suspense!
This is the fourteenth book in the Gina Harte series by author Carla Kovach. This is a series that I have dipped in and out of, not reading the books in any particular order and if I am truly honest have struggled to really get to grips with. This one however finally convinced me that I wanted to read more of this series and on completing went straight into another.
On returning home after celebrating her engagement, Lauren discovers her house in complete darkness and her fiancé Robbie missing. While trying to work out what has happened she searched around the house only to find a dead body in her bed. To her surprise it is her best friend, Sienna.
This is a fast paced novel, full of danger, secrets and suspense all of which is guaranteed to entertain. For some reason I finally took to the characters and the novel was a lot more enjoyable than previous ones. There are the usual twists and turns along the way which help make this a very good read.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Another Gina Harte novel and the standard of plot and writing has stayed at the same immaculate level. Within half a dozen pages, I found myself engrossed and back in the World of Harte and her team. Plenty of red herrings and Harte dealing with a superior who wants to bring her down at every turn.
These novel are published reasonably frequently and yet are excellent read both as standalone or a series.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC.

Awesome.
Lauren is on a night out with her work colleagues when on returning home she finds her best friend Sienna murdered... in her bed.. and her fiancee missing. Gina and Jacob are tasked with investigating the scene but Jacob is acting strange and the following day calls in sick, then admits he has a personal connection to the case. An old colleague and adversary of Gina's is brought in to take over the case, can Gina investigate to her full ability with her old boss hanging over her shoulder trying to trip her up with every chance she gets? There are alot of similarities to a previous case. How will it end?
Loved it. This author is awesome.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.
Unfortunately, this ended up not being my kind of book. Not A bad story by any means just not my cup of tea.
An intricate story. Who killed Sienna? The author keeps you guessing until the very end and then pulls the rug from under your feet with a twist. I couldn't put it down.
I've probably said this in loads of my previous reviews but Carla Kovach has definitely become one of my favourite authors. I love the character of Gina Harte, she is what I hope most police men and women are like, dedicated and empathetic. Besides Gina and her personal storylines, what I find really great about these books is that the stories are always well thought out with good characters that you can get invested in. This book was no exception, PTSD was a big theme and it made me really feel for the characters that suffered with it and how hard it was to move on from the trauma that they had suffered, even Gina coming up against an old nemesis and reacting to that things that she had been through there really came through the page. Highly recommend reading this book, although it's part of a series it can be read as a standalone but I would recommend starting from the beginning just because Gina's journey is so much more interesting that way.
I love a Kovach novel and this was no exception to that rule. I have read many from this series so I am invested in the serious crime team and their lives.
This book was centred around a murder involving strangulation by scarf. It doesn't take the team long to deduce that this isn't an isolated incident.
Thanks to.netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Gina and her team are back with book 14 in the series, although it can easily be read on it's own. This is another well plotted and fast paced read from the author. I really like the characterisation in this series, especially Gina, and the little twist at the end wrapped everything up neatly. My thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
I can’t ever wait for new Gina Harte and when she lands on my shelf - all others get bumped down, mainly cos I know I am going to LOVE it! And I did!
The theme was quite similar to others - but it still kept me guessing throughout!
And even when I thought there was something I could work out/guess I was still shocked and outraged!
There is a reason why Karla Kovach is still one of my favourite authors, and why I love Gina Harte!!
Here we are on book 14 – how did that happen! This does read well as a standalone as the author gives enough backstory to allow new readers to understand what has gone before, but I implore you – please start with book one and read them all.
The Gina Harte series is one of my favourites and it was lovely to be back with her and the team – it almost feels like spending time with friends. I thought this book shone as it mainly focusses on the investigation, with Gina’s homelife running along quietly in the background - this approach really worked for me. The case was gripping and there are numerous threads running through the story and I needed to know how everything would knit together, which kept me avidly reading so I could find out the truth. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and that ending – wow!
All in all, a brilliant addition to an amazing series, which I wholeheartedly recommend.
