Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. How I have loved all the Gina Harte series and this was up there with the best. Great storyline, great characters and a real page turner.
*disclaimer: I have not read the other 13 books in this series, so rating is base off this case and not the back story parts*
Would you kill to keep your secrets? This book follow an investigation of a murder that is not quite what it seems. There is many twists I did not see coming.
This is book 14 in this series but could be read as a standalone however I fully recommend starting from
The beginning for the full enjoyment and excitement of these books. Reading
These books is like coming home
And I knew once I had started reading I wouldn’t be able to put it down so deliberately set aside time to read it when I knew I had nothing else’ I needed to do so could fully immerse myself
Into it and read in one sitting
This was another great instalment to the series and was great to find out more backstory from Gina’s life and that of her team while they were solving another case which kept them and the reader on their toes with so many twists and turns and developments
Can’t wait for the best instalment
Now. This series would make a fabulous tv dramatisation.
Absolutely loved this book, which is part of the DI Gina Harte police procedural series, although it could easily be read as a standalone.
In this book we see less of the home life of Gina and her police family and more of the investigation into the brutal murders and strangulations that they are investigating.
Excellent writing, great gritty characters and was almost impossible to put down. Great ending which has me guessing right to the end. Highly recommend this book and series.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Once again Carla has knocked it out of the park for this book. It kept me company while doing the bedtime routine and was binged in a matter of days.
I absolutely love coming back to catch up with Gina and her team. This book was just on another level. The twists and turns had me gasping out loud and having to reread parts to make sure I had read it right.
Just as you think there couldn't possibly be another twist coming you can be sure there are more shock factors just over the next page.
Another fantastic book by Carla and as always I look forward to meeting up with Harte, Briggs and the team again soon.
Lordy, Lordy, Lordy!!! This book has just taken this series to another level!!
It’s no secret that I love this team of characters and as soon as I start reading it, I’m instantly back in the fold with them.
I often see on covers taglines such as “a twist you won’t see coming”, and this book absolutely nails that saying! As I was reading I actually said outloud “Oh My Days!”, and re read what I’d read just to make sure I hadn’t misread it!
The whole story had me gripped and invested so early on that I just could not put this down.
I just love, Love, LOVE this series and this easily gets 5 sparkly stars!
When Lauren returns from a night out with friends, she crawls into bed with her fiance Robbie...except it isn't Robbie, it is somebody else and they are dead... Where is Robbie and what has happened in her home? Detective Gina Harte and her team must investigate, but what follows is a shocking series of events that will shake the team and test Gina more than ever... Another brilliant entry to the Gina Harte series, I really enjoyed this one and found myself constantly being shocked and surprised. Amazing!
This is book #14 in the DI Gina Harte series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book. Gina and her team are investigating the murder of a young woman, Sienna, who is found dead in her friend Lauren's house when Lauren returns home from a night out. They have very few clues to go on, but Gina finds the case comes a little closer to home than she would like.
I really like Gina's character, and have done throughout the whole series. I've enjoyed the series so far and this has to be my favourite book of the series. Whilst other books have also included Gina's home life in the story, this book is all to do with the investigation and we're back to seeing Gina do what she is best at! The storyline is gripping with lots of suspense and tension, and I was kept wondering throughout how everything would link together.
This was a fabulous read and I loved all the dead ends and red herrings which tied me up in knots trying to work it all out. I love the relationship between Gina and her team and the ending was just perfect. A great crime read which I would recommend!
This series gets better and better, I love these characters and am so invested in their life stories. Cheered when the Superintendent got her come uppance. Great plotting, although I did guess quite early who the culprit was; not that it distracted me from enjoying the book. I read this in one sitting, it’s very addictive, as are all the books in this series. I just can’t wait for the next one in the series.
Wow! Carla Kovach does it again! Fantastic read. I totally loved the setting and of course familiar characters. So much tension and twists. Gobsmacked by all of the reveals. Great book that kept me flipping pages into the night.
Thank you NetGalley, Carla Kovach and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book
Oh Gina, you do it every single time, I promise myself just 'one more chapter' and three hours later I've turned the final page! Gina Harte just has this grip on me that doesn't let up, even when the clock is flashing 4am!
Now I have loved and devoured every single one of the previous 13 books in the series but hands down book #14 has got to be my favourite (at the minute 😉)
This installment gets more personal, yes I know that all previous books have had personal backstories and personal loves delved into BUT this story involves Jacob! You cant get more personal than that!
Lauren is on a night out with her work colleagues when on returning home she finds her best friend Sienna murdered... in her bed.. and her fiancee missing.
Gina and Jacob are tasked with investigating the scene but Jacob is acting strange and the following day calls in sick, then admits he has a personal connection to the case.
An old colleague and adversary of Gina's is brought in to take over the case, can Gina investigate to her full ability with her old boss hanging over her shoulder trying to trip her up with every chance she gets?
There are alot of similarities to a previous case that slowly comes to fruition but Gina is struggling to connect the dots, things dont quite seem to be adding up but Gina is certain about one thing... Jacob is innocent and she will do everything in her power to prove that, no matter what the circumstances.
HUGE thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
My Review:
Loved, loved and more loved. Best one in the series yet. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I’m already going through withdrawals. The best part of this series is the characters. They all fit together so perfectly. Every single one of them. I totally feel like I know them and that they are my best friends in real life. Let’s talk story. OMG!!!!! It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I finished in just a few sittings. I swiped right so fast I thought my finger was going to fall off. I had to know what happened next. If I didn’t, I knew I wouldn’t be able to get anything done until I did. Up next that explosive ending. It left me shocked and speechless. It had so many twists and turns that I did not see coming. I was so sad to see this one end. Carla Kovach is one of my favorite authors along with this series. I would highly recommend to everyone to read these books. They are so great and awesome. I know you will love this series as much as I do.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely loved this one and finished it in a day! Excellent storyline with all the usual characters that we’ve all grown to love.
As always with this author, fabulously well written characters.
An action packed story which pulls you in from the very beginning.
I raced through and was annoyed when i had finished.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
A really satisfying read.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC! The publication date is the 20th Sept 2023. Wow where do I begin with this book… I was hooked from the very first page all the way to the end. The book has many twists and turns! I thought I had worked it out and waited it baited breath to see if I was right and I wasn’t! I was shocked when the story had another curveball thrown in that kept me intrigued as I was dying to know how the book would end!
The characters were well written my favourite one was Tiffany as I felt sorry for her throughout the book and I loved the author’s inspiration of she created the character Tiffany.
Overall, another amazing book by Carla Kovach I can’t wait for the next one!
I’d imagine that the more books that an author writes and especially a series that it must be difficult to keep the storyline fresh and original and Carla Kovach does that every time. I was glued to this from page one as it just doesn’t focus on the crime plot but it’s intertwined with what’s going on in the lives of the detectives. My only regret was finishing it because now we have to wait for the next book.
Book 14 in the wonderful Gina Harte series and there's no sign that Carka Kovach is slowing down, thank goodness.
In this novel things are getting closer to home for Gina in her quest to catch the bad guys and a former boss is over her shoulder waiting for her to mess up. A challenging case for sure.
Each time I say it but this is my favourite in the series so far
I was gifted this advanced copy by Netgalley and Bookouture with no obligation to leave a review
OMG what an amazing book this was, but that was not a surprise this story being part of a fantastic series.
The recurring characters, well, you just have to love them and the new ones the author creates in each installment, well, you just love to hate them.
The story is gripping from the very beginning, but then, along the way, something happens and I was crying NOOOOOOO! I was deeply shocked and my mouth fell open. I did not manage to close it until all was revealed.
I did not want the book to end, but I kept on reading regardless, because I just had to know what was going to happen in the end.
And then there was someone who will not easily forget their encounter with karma... :)
BE warned. When you start this book, you won't be able to put it away until you have finished it. There are not enough superlatives to express how good this story was. I give it 10 stars.
Thank you
Her Hidden Shadow (Detective Gina Harte Book 14) by Carla Kovach is so, so good. I was so sad to come to the end of the story as I like these characters, and the story was compelling. The story was told from different points of view and explored Tiffany and Nancy's (two characters) and their separate situations and how they intersected with the other characters and the storyline.
It had quite an interesting outcome. I had one culprit figured out, but that did not deter me from reading more and ensuring I was correct. The story had interesting twists, and the characters were well-written, intriguing, and believable.
I cannot wait for more in this series. I would recommend this book, this author, and this series.

Another brilliant book in this series which I just love, Gina Harte and all the team. The storyline was great as usual, full of twists and turns which I never guessed and such a ending, everything brought together to a satisfactory conclusion.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this brilliant ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.
