Holy hell this was one wild ride! So let's just get this out of the way: I concur with the author Sophie Andrews that My Best Friend's Wedding is NOT a love story.
Fortunately, despite the premise of sabotaging the BFF-who's-also-her-"love" this IS a love story, in all its hot, sexy, mad uncomfortable glory. The slow burn between Tilly and Zack is so satisfying, and Tilly is somehow humanized while making the reader cringe repeatedly. It's so refreshing to have a story in which the
"other woman" (the obiect of her affection's fiancée) isn't vilified or one-dimensional. I loved this book and cannot wait for more from this author..

Thank you netgalley for this opportunity.
The premise of this story immediately stuck out to me: akin to "My Best Friend's Wedding", Tilly (aka Julia Roberts) strives to thwart her best friend Tyler's rushed wedding because she's always been in love with him. Veering off course a bit, in this story Tilly teams up with Zack, Tyler's new fiances ex. As someone who once had a similar relationship with a best-guy friend I was in love with on the sideline, I was so drawn to this.
.
This absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. This was just SO well written. It captured the dysfunctionality of Tyler/Tilly's relationship so well, made Sarah likeable but also not someone you necessarily rooted for, created a love story between Tilly and Zack that was built so organically, and most importantly created depth to Tilly, who could lean so cartoonish in her decisions. I love that she had a backstory of settling outside of just Tyler that made her choices more concrete. Also the steam level in this is absolute perfection: the sexual scenes are well placed and really delivered.
Finally, I LOVE how this ends with Tilly/Tyler. That dynamic could be really hard to pull off authentically, and I think this really delivered. All in all, a gem of a movie-retelling read!
What to do when your best friend announces he is engaged and you realize you want him for yourself? This is what happens to Tilly. She is convinced he and his new fiancee are not suited at all and wants to break them up before the wedding. To do so she asks for the help of Zach, the ex of the new fiancee.
It sounds a lot like the movie ' My best friend's wedding' but it actually isn't. Tilly grew on me. She has trouble saying no, but learns to do for what she wants during the story and is that really her best friend Tyler? Or is it Zach?
Enjoyed the story, especially because Tilly was never mean or devious at all. The characters felt quite real.
This was an enjoyable read and a fun, rom comey homage to My Best friends wedding. I honestly did not expect to like Tilly so much given the plotting she was doing but she was very likeable and the journey she went through in the book made sense and had you rooting for her. Loved Zack. I’m a big fan of a taciturn hero who may not always have the most flowery words but is all about honesty and having his actions speak. The energy and chemistry between Tilly and Zoe was really good. I loved how he really saw her and the undeniable connection that kept growing between them with each Interaction. Tyler, I was less keen on and I kind of agreed with Zack’s early assessment of him. Overall 3.5 ⭐️
A fun, feel good book that will get you hooked and you won’t be able to put this book down! Think My Best Friends Wedding, with a twist.
Light and easy - great fun! This romance of Tilly and Zack is very heavily inspired by the movie 'My Best Friend's Wedding' but there's a twist, and a HEA.
Tilly is prickly, and a little insane TBH, while Zack is patient and slow to come around (and I love that he's not 6 foot 5 :). An easy afternoon read with some home truths dotted about. Recommended!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
As always, a big thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for granting me access to this book in exchange for my honest review.
Zach? Swoon, for sure. Tilly and Tyler were a bit codependent but I get their history. I had some “My Best Friend’s Wedding” vibes but this was an improvement of that for sure. An entertaining read with some serious threads but they worked with the overall story line, not awkwardly thrown in as sometimes happens. Medium to medium well spicy with the naughty bits. Well done!
Book Review 📚
How To Ruin A Wedding by Sophie Andrews - 4/5 ⭐
Love triangles, jealousy ,best friends, emotions, heartbreak and love stories. What a combination. Andrews' writing in How To Ruin Your Wedding is brilliant.
The best genre to describe this book is a rom-com. There were parts of the story were I was in fits on laughter, tears in my eyes and belly laughing. You know the writing is good if your able to give more then a chuckle or giggle to yourself.
There is fantastic character chemistry and relationships. They all work hand in hand, whether you like or hate them, they work together which makes the book so much more enjoyable. I love when everything fits into place perfectly and it really did in this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for allowing me to read this ARC - this is an HONEST review from my own personal opinion.
Thank you, NetGalley for this ARC.
My main reads are Cozy Mysteries, Psych Thrillers and True Crime. I just started to get back into Women's Fiction and after reading the description, I thought the book would be more like one of the Hallmark movies that I enjoy so I had to read it. It did have some Hallmark aspects, it even mentions Hallmark movies, but it also had some additional spice with the sex descriptions. Personally, I was not a fan of those sections of the book, so my eyes did skim over those sections. I did enjoy the story even though Tilly, Tyler and Sarah all got on my nerves at one point or another. I don't want to give much away but it was obvious that Tyler and Sarah shouldn't be getting married, and Tilly took advantage that they really didn't know how to communicate with each other and needed Tilly to be their middleman. Tyler and Sarah needed couple counseling! Zack was the only likeable character that seemed to have a decent personality even though he had first agreed to help Tilly with her plan on breaking Tyler and Sarah up. The ending was sweet yet kind of sad. I knew it was going to end that way but was hoping for a better outcome.
This was quick read and I did enjoy it.
Tilly has been secretly in love with her best friend, Tyler, forever. When she finds out he is engaged to a girl after only knowing her for 3 months, Tilly gets jealous.. really jealous. So Tilly decides she is going to take it up on herself to break up her best friend and his new fiance' no matter how crazy that makes her. In order to succeed she decides she needs to recruit her best friend's fiance's ex boyfriend, Zack. During all this plotting, Tilly and Zack spend a lot of time together and Tilly starts wondering if she's having a change of feelings.
This rom-com was such a fun read and had me literally laughing out loud! I read the whole book in one night because I just couldn't put it down! The characters and dynamics between them were so well written! I honestly just loved it! This was the first Sophie Andrews book I've read and it won't be my last!! I think a spin off book on some of the other characters in this story such as Ricky or Sarah would be fantastic!
This was so much fun to read. I loved the chemistry between Tilly and Zack. This was like an updated version of my best friends wedding and yet better!
Tyler is Tilly's best friend and he is getting married (rather suddenly) to Sarah, Zack's recent ex. Whilst I didn't particularly fall in love with Tyler and so I couldn't really get on board with why he would spark such desire in Tilly the love interest almost fell away immediately once Zack was there but then that meant some of the middle of the book wasn't a clear defining one size fits all trope. There were a few directions in which this romance was being pulled and could have made for a long and drawn out romance story but Sophie Andrews kept a quick pace that meant I couldn't put the book down until Tilly got her HEA

Who hasn’t fallen for their best friend of the opposite sex before? I’ve been there. But enough to ruin their wedding by reintroducing them to their ex? Nahh. Tilley aspires to do just that; her and Tyler have been best friends for 20 years or more so when he says he’s marrying a supposed one night stand, Tilley is in panic mode. Does she search out the bride’s ex and scheme to get them back together? Absolutely. But as you can tell, nothing goes according to plan.
This was the absolute story I needed to cleanse my dark thriller palate. Semi-relatable and light hearted, would be my main take aways. The main character, Tilley, is a delightful hero we all want to root for. I would definitely recommend this read!
Thank you Netgalley, Sophie Andrews, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for this delightful ARC.
off for 'My Best Friends Wedding' the rom-com movie with Julia Roberts, Dermott Maloney and Cameron Diaz, but how wrong was I.
This book was everything, I want in a romance. I absolutely loved it!
Tilly and Tyler have been best friends forever, so when she is asked to be best woman for his upcoming wedding to someone he met only weeks ago, she is totally mystified. She has convinced herself that her and Tyler will drift off into the sunset together. She then meets Sarah the bride to be and hatches a plan to stop the wedding, with the help of Zack, Sarahs ex boyfriend.
This books is full of laughs, awkward moments and endearing ones. I ended up crying in sympathy and compassion whilst reading it, aswell as getting a little hot under the collar. It was a pure delight!
It is the first book I have ready by Sophie Andrews but it definitely won't be the last. Loved the Gaelic touch, being of Irish descent myself. It always brings a little air of magic to a book from the old country.
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Loved it so much I am going to buy a copy for my friend.
I picked up How to Ruin a Wedding by Sophie Andrews as someone I know was raving about how good it was and I wasn't disappointed. If you're looking for a book version of the movie My Best Friend's Wedding (ugh...I think I just aged myself with that reference...), then this is it!
Tilly has been in love with her best friend forever and she has quietly been waiting for him to realize he loves her as more than just a friend but when he hooks up with someone at a wedding and ultimately proposes to the girl, Tilly finds herself in a situation she never really imagined she would be...trying to break up the engagement. As part of her strategy, she reaches out to the new fiance's old boyfriend, Zach, to get him to help her out and that's when things get interesting.
Zack was probably my favorite thing about this book. The chemistry he and Tilly had was amazing and I wanted her to stop pushing him to engage with the other girl much sooner than she did. He was way more interesting than Tyler and while she had history with Tyler, Zack truly invested his time to get to know her and paid attention.
If you're looking for a Contemporary Romance that has interesting characters, comedy, and some spice, pick this one up. I flew through it and will definitely pick up more from Sophie Andrews in the future.
This book had me completely hooked It might actually be magic I absolutely loved the story I couldn't put the book down!!.
Zach was so sweet and absolutely romantic no matter what he says otherwise and I really loved tilly's character growth throughout the book
I can't wait to read more books from this author
This book is inspired by the movie My Best Friends Wedding, but it is a very different story. Tilly and Tyler have been friends for over 20 years and during a huge part of these years, Tilly has been secretly hoping that Tyler would realize Tilly is the One. But of course he doesn’t, so when he announces his engagement to Sarah, Tilly contacts Sarah’s ex-boyfriend Zach to break them up. Zach strangely goes along with it but later you understand why. This “breaking them up” is actually having Zach “accidentally” run into Sarah a few times, but besides that, Tilly is actually quite nice to Sarah. She helps her plan the wedding, choose the wedding cake, all kind of things. Of course she still hopes they break up at first, but I didn’t read about some major tricks she pulled to actually break them up. I won’t spoil what happens next but I do feel there’s no need for a guilty conscience. Not really. So when the situation comes to a climax, I think she and Tyler’s both are overreacting.
The pace at first was a bit slow, I got distracted. But the second part of the book was better paced. The characters are realistic and believable, and the chemistry was nicely handled. Tilly’s personal journey is understandable and you see where she is coming from. Overall a nice book that many will enjoy.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and I am grateful for the opportunity. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book took me by surprise right away in thinking that this was going to be a best friends coming together romance. I haven’t read anything like this before where the girl didn’t end up with the best friend and I’m so happy about it! I loved the single POV and felt like I was in Tilly’s head all the time. This was such a fun easy read that I think a lot of people will be able to relate to!
I loved this story. It's focused on Tilly's friendship with Tyler, and her finding love with the last person she'd expect, Zack.
I enjoyed the writing, the story flew really well.
I felt that if this was a movie, I'd watch it.
Overall really enjoyable and feel-good.
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
This fun story is reminiscent of the movie My Best Friend's Wedding, but without the truly horrible acts trying to sabotage a wedding, and has an actual happy ending. When Tilly's best friend ends up engaged, she sets out to stop him from marrying someone he hardly knows. In the process, Tilly finds true love. I enjoyed this quick read and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun read.
A romance with a lot of spice and a great plot? Yes, please!! This book reminded me a lot of the movie, My Best Friend’s Wedding. It’s the age old story of girl who falls for her best friend but best friend is getting married. What to do? Ruin the wedding!! I loved Tilly and Zach. They made the story fun and hard to put down! Great read!
