Loosely based on the Julia Roberts film My Best Friend’s Wedding, this is a fun little trip. When Tilly finds out her best friend Tyler is getting married, she aims to break up the lovebirds and convince him to love her instead. She enlists the help of the bride-to-be’s ex-boyfriend, Zach, and Tilly realizes she really needs to sort out her feelings. There’s a slow burn, rides on a motorcycle and a dip in a lake at midnight. You’ll fall in love with the characters and their story!
I honestly didn’t see it coming how good this would be. It really hit the spot for everything I was looking for! Usually I get annoyed when characters make more decisions but I just had to laugh with Tilly. And zach gives major butterflies 😍
Tilly is in love with her best friend but he's getting married to someone else. She contacts the bride's ex-bf , Zack and asked him to help her break up the couple. Of course, she gets confused by her growing feelings for Zack.... Will true love finally happen for Tilly?
Love Tilly and Zack together. Tilly is an unlikely heroine but she really grows on you. I love Zack and how sweet he is. He's a terrific bf. The dialogue just sizzle.... A terrific rom-com.
Thanks to the the publisher for the arc.
Tilly has been in love with her best friend Tyler for as long as she can remember. She knows they are meant to be together, and one day he’ll realize it to. One day he will get tired of all the one night stands, and will be ready to settle down. And he will realize that she has been right there all along. So when he suddenly shows up for their best friend brunch with his new fiancé, Tilly can think of only one thing to do: she has to stop this wedding from happening.
Look, Tilly is, at times, a little problematic. And because of that, it took me a second to get into this story. But here are the two import things to know:
1. She knows it. She literally starts the story out saying “I’m not a good person, I’m a liar” - she’s not one of those problematic characters that doesn’t think there is anything wrong with her behavior.
2. She grows and she learns
I was glad I stayed with this story even though Tilly made me cringe a little at times. Because I actually really loved the romance in this book. It’s single POV but Sophie does a great job of writing the MMC so that you know exactly how he’s feeling through out the story, even though you don’t get his first hand account.
If you like drama, slow burns, and book boyfriends that say things like: “Is there a word for when everything inside me feels like it’s trying to get to you, and it’s so painful the only thing that helps is for you to touch me. Then, at least, all my blood and muscles and bones don’t feel so out of place inside me. Is there a word for that?” ❤️ - then you will love this book!
(I will be posting this review on my Instagram sometime between sept 1st-8th. Sorry I do not have the exact date planned yet, but will come back and update once I do. I will also post my review to Amazon on the pub date!)
this book was like My Best Friend Wedding but so much more. Loved it and wanted more. Great story and couldn't put it down.
When I read the description of this book I knew I wanted to read this right away. Being a big fan of the movie my best friends wedding this was right in my wheelhouse. The underlying theme of the best friend getting married spurned on deeper feelings from the heroine and her wanting to break up the couple was the main thing this book and the movie for the most part had in common. Life as Tilly knows it was going to change and she was digging her feet in to stop it. The change in her relationship to her longtime friendship was the catalyst to question her lives choices to date. Meeting Zach with his stoicism helped her solve some of her fears of change. This was a fun read with some sexy scenes that goes to show it’s always the quiet ones! I really enjoyed Tilly embracing her strong Irish roots. I plan on reading other books by Ms Andrews because this one was such a delight. I appreciate the advanced copy and these opinions are my own.
One word: Hilarious..
This "My Best Friends Wedding" retelling is everything you never knew you needed in a book. There are moments of absolute laughing out loud, and moments of the pain of love unrequited all wrapped into a story of self discovery. Tilly takes us on this journey where she is struggling to come to terms with what she wants out of life versus what is comfortable.. and lets be honest who hasn't been there at some point in there life. As a reader, I need to be able to resonate with the characters and this book is spot on..
Dialogue/ Banter is incredible.. the characters speak fluent sarcasm, mixed with wit and absolute truth.. could not be better.
I would recommend this book whole heartedly to anyone who can use a great love story with a little spice, and a whole lot of laughs. Great read.
How to Ruin a Wedding is comparable to My Best Friend's Wedding to me in that I rooted against the female main character! I didn't want her to get that best friend because she was selfish and kind of a jerk.
Tilly has been in love with her lifelong best friend, Tyler, forever and can't believe it when he falls for someone else and proposes to her.
The new bride to be is likeable and just happens to fall for Tyler, that's her only crime.
Tilly enlists the new bride to be's ex to help her break them up.
Hijinx ensue and Tilly starts to realize that Zack may be the guy for her, not Tyler.
If the goal was for me to NOT root for Tilly then this book is a winner. Tyler wasn't a prize either.
This was wholly and utterly heartwarming.
What a book! I have to be honest, the trope is not my favorite, but I was way too charmed by the plot not to be at least a bit curious. And I'm so glad I requested the ARC because I couldn't put it down.
Tilly and Zach were incandescent together. They were "alive like fire!"
Their chemistry was out of this world and were perfect for each other. I started rooting for them as soon as we meet Zach, who is a total sweetheart, absolutely filthy in bed.
Tilly started not so great, obviously because of what she sets up to do, but as the story progressed and we get to know her some more, she's charming and so strong.
There's only one thing I didn't like, but not enough to impact how much I loved this book.
Tyler and Sarah kept using her to send each other comments about things they didn't like about one another and what they wished the other would change.
This was incredibly selfish and unfair, even if she wasn't "in love" with Tyler. But I guess this added another layer to their problems and issues, so I can gloss over it.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
