This book really just took me for a ride. I loved the build up, the character development, and the writing. I would definitely read more from this author!
I love a good Historical Fiction story and THE PRESIDENT’S WIFE was such a great take about the story of Edith Bolling Wilson, who was married to President Wilson, and helped care for him as well as the country during his illness. His stroke was top secret and news of his health was important to keep away from the world as the war was near the end.
I thought the audiobook narration was great and would recommend this format!

I haven't had the opportunity to read much WW1 historical fiction, so I was excited going into this just due to the time period that it was set in. I found this book to be really interesting. I didn't know much about our MC nor about Woodrow Wilson or his presidency. I imagine that it must've been a really difficult time period to be the president with WW1 and all of the social changes that were happening. I thought that was conveyed really well. There were a couple of parts of this that did drag, but overall, if you like historical fiction, I think it's worth the read.
This well-researched book by Tracey Enerson Wood, author of numerous other works of historical fiction, tells the story of Edith Bolling Wilson. Edith was the woman who married the President and then nursed him, and the country through his illness. President Wilson's stroke was a well-kept secret as WWI draws to a close and Edith is afraid if the news leaks out the country and indeed the world will be thrown into turmoil.
Mrs. Wilson is more than up to the task and this book details how she led the country through through trying times, while concealing the depths of her husband's illness from the world. Narrated by actor and experienced book narrator Libby McKnight, the book begins with Mrs. Wilson visiting the resort Greenbrier and recalling her experiences after overhearing some conversations.
Recommended for readers who enjoy historical fiction, are interested in WWI, or just want a good read.
A nice change to the historical fiction genre to look at the women behind the men in power. I must say, this book gave me a great insight into aWilson’s presidency and I loved to see Edith being brought into it as a driving force behind his work when he became too ill. This is a book which fans of the historical fiction genre will love.
I enjoyed listening to Tracey Enerson Wood's The President's Wife. It was interesting to learn about this first lady that I have not known before. I liked it. Four stars.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really liked it, stuck with me & would recommend
Set between 1915-1921 in Washington DC, this book tells the story of Edith Bolling and her relationship with US president, Woodrow Wilson.
I connected immediately with their love story because I too have found love after loss. Author, Tracey Enerson Wood, really captures just how much your priorities change after the life altering, profound loss of a partner. I liked the historical setting and historical fiction part of this book too, but their relationship is really what shined for me.
Thank you to RB Media, NetGalley, and author Tracey Enerson Wood for providing me with a digital ARC copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. The President's Wife is out August 15, 2023.
Thank you, NetGalley, for an audio-ARC of The President's Wife by Tracey Emerson Wood..
The President's Wife gave a historical account of Woodrow Wilson's wife, Edith Bolling, and shared information about how she handled her role as president's wife after his stroke. I learned a lot of information about this time in history, but found the book to be slow-paced.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This review is for the audiobook version of the novel. I love historical fictionalizations of real people and events. I also love reading about US Presidents of the past and their wives. I have never read such a book about Woodrow or Edith Wilson. In fact, I knew next to nothing about their lives. This book was a great way to get a good overview as the book did walk us through the years that the US was at war in WW1. It also didn't shy away from some decisions Edith made that were, in retrospect, not the right ones for the country. I also appreciated seeing that Edith didn't do well looking after the injured men from the war. She felt guilty about it and still did things to help and honor the soldiers but the visuals upset her greatly. I definitely didn't hold her thoughts on a certain monumental movement of the time in high regard and I think she was on the 'wrong side of history' several times. But she was doing the best she could and was very committed to caring for her husband through the last years of his presidency and life. The audio narration was great and I was easily sucked into this story. It was not a perfect book in that I thought some parts were slow and killed the pacing but still a very enjoyable read that I will recommend.

I started listening to this book over a week ago and struggled to listen without breaks. It’s beautifully written and character driven, but there isn’t enough to make me hold on or invest in these characters. At 52% it is a DNF.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
I enjoyed this story. I did not know much about President and Mrs. Wilson. The story was interesting, but I wished it were a little more fast paced. The ending was so very sweet and enduring. I think the author balanced historical information with a personal story of Edith and Woodrow. If you like historical fiction give this a try. You will enjoy this little known story.
An interesting read about a lesser known part of history. A little rambling at the beginning but an audiobook to enjoy as you go about your day.
As a widowed socialite, Edith Bolling catches the eye of none other than President Woodrow Wilson. What follows is a very public romance that ends in a Presidential marriage. President Wilson is desperately trying to keep America OUT of war, but we all know that was an inevitability. The pressure of the job affects the health of President Wilson and we get to see the strength of Edith as she almost runs the Country by herself. We get to see the progression of their relationship and how they directed America through this tumultuous time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am a historical fiction buff, but hadn't read much about Woodrow Wilson. I can only imagine how crazy it would be to contemplate not only marriage, but an immediate jump into the public eye and all the criticism that goes with it. What I loved it is the focus on the strength of Edith. No way you could keep the health of the President a secret today, but between her and some close advisors, they ended up running the country by themselves. It was also interesting to read about how daily life changed for everyone during this time of World War I. If you like historical fiction I highly recommend this one. The narrator, Libby McKnight was fabulous. I gave this one 4 out of 5 stars.

Four stars!
The President’s Wife by Tracy Enerson Wood is an excellent and well-researched book of President Woodrow Wilson’s presidency from the perspective First Lady Edith Wilson. The storyline followed close to history and highlights her role and influence in presidential affairs and decisions as well as war efforts on the home front and women’s suffrage.
The audiobook was fantastic. Narrator Libby McKnight had an engaging, flowing voice as she shared Wood’s novel.
Thank you NetGalley & RB Media for this ARC audiobook.
The President’s Wife by Tracey Enerson Wood is the story of Edith Bolling, an American socialite, who after being widowed meets also widowed, President Woodrow Wilson.
The story follows Edith, as she embarks on the many important roles of the first wife. During this time of war and rations, Edith comes up with many solutions, including saving the Lenox company. Then as the war nears the end, Edith has to come up with more serious solutions, as her husband’s health fails.
The President’s Wife was an engaging novel. I do not normally read historical fiction, but it was interesting learning more about these important figures in our history.
Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media Recorded Books for the advanced audio copy in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 ⭐️, a story for a period of time that is overlooked these days, president with medical needs which would be unlikely these days. Readers will find it interesting to learn about a widow become President’s wife and eventually his right hand. This isn’t a president studied in detail for most students so much of the information will feel as though learning something new. Paired this one with First Ladies, both set in Washington, D.C. Audiobook was well read. thanks NetGalley for the audiobook to review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting access to this book in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed Tracey Enerson Wood's last book The Engineers Wife, so I was excited to gain early access to this book. This book was an interesting story. What I especially enjoyed is that this book told a story that not many people probably know about. "The President's Wife" (Edith Wilson) featured in this book is probably not as talked about as Eleanor Roosevelt or Jackie Kennedy for example. I am glad that Enerson Wood decided to share Mrs. Wilson's story with the world!
The President’s Wife is the story of Edith Wilson née Bolling who goes from a relatively unknown socialite to the First Lady of the United States.
Edith never wanted or needed the spotlight. After losing her first husband she was content to spend her days visiting with friends and traveling. She grew to enjoy the level of independence she had after her husband passed, and had no plans to change until Woodrow decides he cannot live without her. He too had lost his wife, but unlike Edith, he didn’t enjoy living without a companion.
Edith quickly became indispensable to President Wilson, who suffered from multiple maladies. He values her opinions so much he dispenses with certain staff and takes to discussing policy with her, even as the country is dragged into World War I. Eventually his health takes a dramatic toll, and rather than tarnish his legacy, Edith does all that she can to help him finish his term in office even making presidential policy decisions in his stead.
Edith Wilson was a force of nature—independent, but deeply loyal to her husband. Her story was an interesting one I didn’t know much about until this novel. Though the topic was interesting, the story did drag quite a bit for me and I ended up speeding up my audiobook to get through it. If American history is your thing, this book is likely more intriguing to you than me.
Thank you to NetGalley, RB Media, and the author for the advanced copy of the audiobook. The President’s Wife is out now. All opinions are my own.

-This book hits you with intrigue right from the start!
-Edith and Wilson’s marriage is actually incredibly romantic, something you do not often hear about.
-It’s interesting to see the Presidency from the wife’s perspective.
-There is a ton of detail in this book, so it is a bit long.

The President's Wife was kindly provided as an ARC by Netgalley and RB Media. Thank you for allowing me to read this wonderful book!
Release Date: Out Now!
I can honestly say that I did not know a lot about Woodrow Wilson’s second Wife, Edith. This book gives so much detail about their courtship, marriage, and their life as he was President during World War 1.
This book is very interesting, and full of detail. I could see if being a bit too much for a passive listener. If you love a good history book, though, the audiobook is really well done and interesting to listen too!

Firstly I want to say I am not an American so your whole political world is unknown to me but I had heard a little about President Wilson and his wife Edith as part of your country's history. I listened to the Audiobook version of this story which was narrated by Libby McKnight. I must admit I did struggle with this story both with the topic,
I couldn't connect with the characters and the narrator. Their tone and speed did not enhance the story for me.
I am sorry to say this audiobook was just not for me but this is not the fault of the author or the narrator.
