This book was actually god awful. This girl cons her friends to go on vacation on false pretenses for a man. Then spends all her time complaining about said man. I would not recommend this book to a single person. I thought the main character was extremely whiney. I probably won't read anything from this author again. BUT the cover is super cute!
I enjoyed this book. The characters were well introduced and it felt like I knew Grace. I loved learning about all of the friendships and the relationships between them. Fun Read!
Was a cleanser in-between dark romance and fantasy. Honestly I didn't care for the MC, she was just too.... immature for me to connect with in any way shape or form. I didn't like her friends, I didn't like really anything about this book other than the hopes I had for it when I read the description. I adore the cover, and that's about it.
Am average romance. Protagonist was a bit annoying at times. I hated the constant punching each other in boobs, and the Caity “insert insult here” Ruiz lines.
I enjoyed aspects of this book, like the banter between characters and the dynamic between the friend groups. I had a hard time getting into this book due to the actions of the main character and her constant support and approval of her horrible ex boyfriend. She had few redeeming qualities and I found it difficult that the love interest forgave her for using him.
The summer before senior year of college has arrived, and Grace has been anticipating an important trip to Los Angeles with her boyfriend, Josh. But when he unexpectedly dumps her, she’s left with nothing but a broken heart and an empty schedule.
Her best friends Tiff and Camille quickly come to her rescue by taking her on a post-break-up beach vacation in Cancun, hoping it will help her start to move on. Too bad neither of them knows that Josh will be there, too, along with his possibly-new girlfriend.
Grace is determined to win Josh back at all costs. But when she keeps crossing paths with Daniel, a gorgeous soccer player from Hawaii, she starts to rethink her plan. Daniel is everything Josh isn’t—easygoing, unpretentious, unselfish in bed—and he gets what it’s like to be biracial, too. Grace can’t help but wonder if it’s possible for your entire life to change in just one wild week in this boisterous and witty celebration of friendship, forgiveness, and falling in love.
4.7/5
A book about the beauty of friendship and love.
A quite equsite read
This seemed like a little bit of fluff to read between my normal thriller and mystery reads, but I found this book highly entertaining. I loved the banter and the freedom these three girls had with their lives.
2.5 stars. Grace is on a mission to reconnect with her ex boyfriend in Cancun and ends up meeting someone else. I had high hopes for this book-such a fun cover and promise of a rom-com, but the storyline was full of angsty internal drama, a lot of dialogue about ethnicity that didn’t seem to fit overall, and a fling instead of a romance. I did like the movie quite references at the beginning of the chapters but some of them didn’t seem to fit either. It was still overall a cute book.
A young woman convinces her friends to go on spring break to try and win back her boyfriend who just broke up with her.
✅ the characters are young, still in college
✅ fuckboi ex, this is basically a PSA against unhealthy situationships
✅ both main characters are biracial, and there are conversations around belonging
✅ vibes of the 2000s classic Road Trip
🌶️: a little
There’s something about this book that feels a little unfinished - it feels more like a script than a book?
I really wanted to like this, or even to finish it; but I just couldn’t get through it. The main character Grace is so unlikable and her decision to follow an ex to Cancun after only 6 months of dating him? It should be a fun premise but for some reason it came across very cringe-worthy because of how Grace acts towards him. I also really wanted to like her friends but they don’t feel like real people. It’s an okay read.
“The Breakup Vacation” is a book I honestly struggled with. I couldn’t connect to any of the characters! They are one dimensional and stereotypical. I kept holding out for hope that there would be some redeeming qualities, but nothing ever happened. Just because I didn’t enjoy it, doesn’t mean that you won’t, if you’re looking for a rom com that takes place in Cancun changing down an ex, you may enjoy! The cover is just so cute. Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC.
I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did! The Breakup Vacation is a wonderful romance book, but ultimately centers on the values of friendship and sisterhood.
While Grace made some *very* questionable decisions, she was still a good character. She was complex and didn’t always do the right thing, which I actually really love in some ways. She was definitely a bad friend at some points in the book. You can tell that they did love and support one another though. Tiff and Camille were hilarious! Tiff’s raunchy humor. Camille being lost during conversations. These three were such a perfect friend group, even if they had their moments.
Now, Grace and Daniel. They were lovely. I loved their banter and the flirting!! The spontaneity of their relationship was fun. Grace could truly be herself and be happy around Daniel, which was great to see. There were no set expectations for them to meet. They could just be.
Overall, this was a really great book. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. The writing style was fun and easy to read making this a great summer read. Thank you NetGalley and Atria/MTV, for the arc in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I did not enjoy this novel. Grace is not a fun character to spend time with. She has a lot of mean girl energy and clearly doesn’t appreciate her friends. She spends most of her time either using them or blowing them off. She’s also super catty to her ex’s new love interest. Every time she talks about her, it’s always first name “blah blah something mean” last name.
***review accidentally posted for a different book. will up date this review in the near future when I have finished reading this arc. Sorry for the confusion!***
Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for an advance e-copy of The Breakup Vacation in exchange of an honest review.
Get ready for a fun and wild adventure in 'The Breakup Vacation' by Anna Gracia. Grace's plan to go on a vacation with her friends just to see her ex sets the stage for a delightfully dramatic story. The friendships are heartwarming, and the swoon-worthy character of Daniel adds to the rom com vibes. If you're looking for a light-hearted read with plenty of laughs and a sprinkle of romance, this book is a must-read!"
I had high hopes for this book. Loved the summary and as it began it reminded me a bit of Legally Blonde (which is one of my favorite films). Grace follows her ex to Cancun to try and win him back, he is working on a movie set and she is an aspirating actress. As it unfolds, I found that Grace is not like Elle Woods. She does not inform her friends of her plan to get her ex back nor do they even know he is in Cancun, even though her best friend is the one finding the trip! It was a struggle for me to finish, I did not connect with any of the characters and the story unfolded exactly as you would expect. Thank you NetGalley and MTV Books for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I had high hopes for this story based on the blurb. I started reading it and it was a real struggle to finish. I did not care for the main character. At all. Overall, this was a big letdown.
This book add is really big let down. The main character drive me completely insane and made me hate her. Many of the side characters are very one dimensional.
The relationship has no real chemistry. They basically just hook up for a few days and then decide to date.
I don’t know. This just wasn’t it. There are much better romcoms out there. The cover was so cute and based on that I thought it would be right up my alley.
I wanted to love it but it just fell alittle flat for me. The characters and side characters were interesting but I just wanted more and it didnt have it. I would have liked to see more romance to it and just overall more plot I guess? I dont know it just wasnt for me but maybe someone else will love it!
"The Breakup Vacation" by Anna Garcia is a captivating and heartwarming novel that takes readers on an emotional journey of healing and self-discovery. The story revolves around Sarah, a woman who embarks on a journey to heal her broken heart after a painful breakup. I really enjoyed the side characters, Sarah's friends as well but I will say I thought they were written to act younger than they actually were. I also wish there was a little more depth to them. The romance could have been a little more palpable and I felt like the scenes with Sarah and Josh were a little one dimensional, I didn't feel as emotionally invested as I have with other stories. Overall it was a cute quick read and I'd definitely recommend to pack for a trip or as a beach read. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced reader copy!!
