Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an advanced reader copy of the Breakup Vacation by
Anna Gracia. I gave this book many tries, but I eventually DNF’d it at 20%. I had a really hard time connecting with this book and the characters. The book idea is a fun one, but it just didn’t work for me. Grace is devastated that her hookup, Josh, dumped her. So when she hears Josh is going on a trip to Cancun with another girl, Grace gets jealous and plans a girls vacation trip to Cancun in hopes of running into Josh and getting him back. (Think Forgetting Sarah Marshall). The best part of the book was the supportive friends, they didn’t want Grace pining over or trying to get Josh back. However, Grace was a character that I struggled with, she was so insecure that she became desperate for a man’s attention. In todays world of female empowerment, it just didn’t seem like a good quality for the protagonist. Thanks again to NetGalley and Atria books for the ARC.

This was a fun read for me!

While I did start to feel annoyed with the main character’s actions towards her ex and her friends, I understood where she was coming from AND I was hooked from the start and read it in 2 sittings.

An easy and fun read with a little bit of spice and drama in the mix

Anna Gracia's The Breakup Vacation is a refreshing blend of humor, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Following Grace as she navigates a post-breakup Cancun escapade with her best friends, the novel offers a relatable and entertaining exploration of young adulthood.

Gracia's writing is witty and engaging, capturing the vibrant energy of youth with authenticity. The dynamic between Grace and her friends is both hilarious and heartwarming, creating a strong foundation for the story. The unexpected twist of running into her ex adds a layer of complexity to the narrative, forcing Grace to confront her feelings and reassess her priorities.

While the plot follows a familiar rom-com trajectory, the novel's strength lies in its character development. Grace's journey of self-discovery is relatable and inspiring, as she learns to prioritize her own happiness and values. The exploration of friendship, forgiveness, and the complexities of young love adds depth to the story.

The Breakup Vacation is a fun and lighthearted read that will leave readers cheering for Grace as she finds her way. It's a perfect escape for anyone looking for a feel-good story with a touch of romance.

this just wasn’t for me. i didn’t enjoy the premise of the story, and the pacing felt a bit off to me. i would have liked to see more of the romance unfold rather than the repetitive scenes we got of the main character and her friends on vacation. the rotation for the main character was this : get drunk, feel guilty about lying to her friends, vent about her ex boyfriend, and swoon over the new guy she meets. there were also some random quirks to this book that just bothered me, like the constant ‘punching in the boob’ and random references to movies.

In this refreshingly fun and emotional read, the story takes us on a whirlwind journey through Grace’s chaotic attempt to mend her broken heart. When her friends propose a girls' trip to Cancún to help her move on from her ex, Josh, Grace jumps at the chance. However, she’s keeping a big secret: Josh is in Cancún too, and she’s hoping to reignite their spark. The narrative vividly captures the lively, sun-soaked backdrop of Cancún, juxtaposing it with Grace’s internal struggle and the complicated web of lies she weaves to keep her ex at bay.

The heart of the story lies in Grace’s personal growth and her evolving relationships. As she navigates the maze of her emotions and the mess she’s created, she meets Daniel, a charming local who shares her cultural background. Their budding connection brings a new dimension to the plot, offering a refreshing take on love and self-discovery. Grace’s journey from heartache to self-realization is both humorous and poignant, highlighting the complexities of moving on and finding oneself amidst the chaos.

What stands out is how the novel blends humor with genuine emotional depth. The author skillfully balances the comedic elements of Grace’s predicament with a sincere exploration of her inner turmoil and personal growth. The story not only provides a lighthearted escape but also resonates with anyone who has struggled with the messiness of relationships and self-worth. Overall, it’s a delightful read that captures the essence of friendship, love, and the quest for closure.

I wanted to like this one but I kept zoning out so I finally gave up on it. I think many people will enjoy it but it just wasn’t for me!

I really enjoyed Grace and Daniel. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to Grace and her actions. I didn’t really care for Tiff’s character and in some scenes she kill it for me.

I wasn’t sure if I would like The Breakup Vacation after reading the first chapter but it did get better.

I enjoyed this book it was overall predictable and did not keep my attention. I have seen some extreme reviews of this book but it was just a super simple predictable romance. Overall, a good book.

DNF @ 10%

I was hopeful about this one, but the main character's incessant need to put a phrase between Caity Ruiz's name in the first chapter really sent me over the edge.

I think this would be a good pick for someone in college or their early 20s.

Did Not Finish.

This was one of my quickest DNFs ever. The very first chapter, the FMC is awkwardly trying to get back with her ex who dumped her and it's all just so pathetic. I didn't want to read a book about a woman pining for her ex the entire time...thus I DNF.

I was so excited for this book I always really enjoy vacation reads. unfortunately I just never connected with the characters they felt very immature and surfaced level. The one thing that did keep me reading was the love interest Daniel he was*chefs kiss*. Although I didn't love this one it was less than 3oo pages so I was able to finish it in a couple of days in the warm sun which helped my overall enjoyment.

✨Book Review✨
The Breakup Vacation by Anna Gracia
⭐️⭐️
.
I feel badly adding to the negative reviews of this book, but it's pretty hard to say something nice about. Someone said it feels like it was written by a horny teenager and I couldn't agree more. The entire plot of this book was drinking and sex. The characters were awful and the dynamics between the three friends were terrible. I don't know if I've ever read a book before where the friends seemed so wrong for each other.
.
I did appreciate that this book tried to call out racism and sexism, but it really did not succeed. The "love" interest (I can't even call him that without quotes because there was no love) was only interested in sex, but because he asked her what she wanted and didn't force himself on her, he was supposed to be the perfect man.
.
I should have stopped reading, but I wanted to see how everything unfolded. It just got worse and worse. Let this be your sign if you're trying to decide if you should stop reading, don't bother making it to the end.

This definitely wasn’t your typical romance book but I still enjoyed it! I had a great time reading this as a fun beach read!

DNF @ 25%

This one just wasn't for me. I definitely would suggest it to an older high school/young college looking for a fun, quick summer read. But I personally didn't enjoy reading from the main character's point of view.

But, honestly, this novel was a trainwreck from start to finish and it never redeemed itself. It's a no from me.
