This is a fun, cute, and fast read that would be perfect for the beach. The premise of this book is fun and engaging. However, I had a hard time connecting with the main character, Grace. Additionally, there were so many questions left unanswered with this one, and I found myself wanting more. That said, I just donโ€™t think I was the target audience for this book, and feel as though it would definitely appeal more to the YA or NA reader. I do think this book has the potential to be a big hit with the intended audience.

๐ŸŽงI mostly listened to the audiobook, narrated by Yu-Li Alice Shen. I found the narrator to be very dynamic and I really did enjoy my time listening to her. I feel as though she was able to bring each character to life and I would love to listen to more audiobooks narrated by her in the future!

The cover drew me into this one but dang the story-yikes. While it wasnโ€™t completely awful, I definitely did some skimming so I could get it done and move on. Firstly there were no main likable characters or really any support characters to add anything to the plot. There really wasnโ€™t anyone to root for and no real growth from anyone. The cover doesnโ€™t even accurately depict the characters despite how cute it is!
While Iโ€™m sure this was meant to be a character driven story since the plot was based mainly on the FMC Graceโ€™s choices, but it has to be said, it wasnโ€™t really well set up. I found myself rolling my eyes frequently and wondering what the hold was that Josh (Graceโ€™s ex) had over her. He seemed like the worst. I didnโ€™t get it. And then they were in Cancun! Why not give me loads of fabulous descriptions of beaches and the beauty that is there? But nope, instead there were quotes from movies to start every chapter that added absolutely nothing to the story whatsoever.
This book had potential and I wanted it to be better than it was. There were too many stereotypes, a few triggers and just not enough good to outweigh the not so good.
Thanks to MTV Books for this eArc in exchange for my review.

Life is too short to read bad books. I made it through 30% of this one and just couldn't keep going. I don't mind an unlikeable character, but every person in this story is unlikeable. There isn't much of a plot and it seems very childish with nowhere to go. Sadly, this is the first book in over a year that I have rated one star.

Not going to lie, this was a fail for me. The charactersย were horrible -ย  annoying, childish, one dimensional. ALL OF THEM! I did not connect with any aspect of the book. The location descriptions were not there - and I wanted to escape to the beach! The character interactions were boring. I just felt so annoyed by most of what occurred. I get that this was supposed to be about a bunch of college students, but at times it felt like I was listening to my 11 year old explain the drama in Middle School. If you are a big YA fan, maybe give it a try.ย
Thank you Netgalley for my advanced reader copy.

The Breakup Vacation by Anna Gracia is a feel-good beachy rom-com that swept up into the life of Grace.
This was a cute quick read. Anna Gracia did a fantastic job of creating an engaging story that kept me turning the pages and wanting to find out what will happen next for Grace.

Thank You NetGalley and MTV Books for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

I'm in the middle with this one. I started by HATING this book. I really really did. But as it kept going, I felt bad for the main character, Grace, and related to her just a bit (we've all ditched our friends for our boyfriends once or twice, yeah?). This was authentic and real, so if you read books that are realistic, this would fit your vibe. Grace is unlikable (as all people are sometimes), stuck on her ex, and her friends aren't the most supportive about it. Thus, the plot to go to Cancun and get him back. But along the way she meets a rebound guy, which turns into more, and she gets stuck between the two men, her friends, and the situation as a whole. I typically read to escape real-life problems (this one sure is a pickle) so it wasn't my favorite by any means. But it also wasn't horrible for me. Right in the middle of the road.

There was not much about this that I enjoyed. The characters were so unlikeable and the plot was terrible. And the writing felt very clunky and cringy throughout.

2/5 โญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

Grace is heartbroken after her boyfriend Josh breaks up with her and says he does not have time to commit to her. Her best friends, Tiff and Camille, decide a girls trip is exactly what she needs to get over Josh for good. Little do her best friends know that Josh will also be in Cancun at the same time and Grace chose Cancun to try to get him back. However, Grace meets Daniel, a handsome soccer player, and their chemistry is palpable immediately. She keeps running into Daniel and as she learns more about how wonderful he is, she wonders if she was wrong about chasing after her ex. One wild week in paradise will change the course of her love life and she must decide which path to take - the familiar, complicated ex-boyfriend or the hot, attentive new guy?

If you have seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you will love this book! Itโ€™s an easy read that is filled with hilarious moments and has a classic rom-com feel. While it was a light read, I would have liked to see more development with the main characterโ€™s relationship and the plot was pretty standard. Fun read but not a ton of depth!

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me the privilege of reading The Breakup Vacation! Publish date is March 5th ๐Ÿฉต

Probably more of a 3.5 but thatโ€™s fine some of these other reviews are unnecessarily harsh. Did yโ€™all not see the big mTV logo at the bottom of the cover?

I think I went in with my expectations at a correct level. I went in expecting reality tv level entertainment and thatโ€™s exactly what I got. I liked it. Yes it was dramatic, sexy, silly and a bit annoying, with a lot of dialogue- the exact reasons I watch Are You the One and Love Island.

Grace just got soft dumped by her pos bf but she is determined to get him back. So much so she lies to her friends to follow him on a โ€œgirls tripโ€ to Cancun. Will she get him back or are there some much hotter, stronger, nicer, fish on this trip? ๐Ÿ˜‚

Sure Grace was shallow and her lying was stressful but her growth was lovely and the dialogue around being mixed race and the connection she found with other mixed race characters was important and great.

Iโ€™d recommend this for people that like mTV reality shows and like silly dramatic romcoms.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for an eARC

This was a huge letdown for me across the board. I expected a fun spring break romance that would get me excited for a new season and it ended up being a total flop for me. From the start I didnโ€™t connect with Grace, she was annoying in her obsessiveness with her ex to the point she just looked pathetic. The secondary characters werenโ€™t much better either, they were all one dimensional and just werenโ€™t bringing anything of value to the story. Last bummer thing for me was the majority of the book was set in Cancun so I expected some great descriptions of the setting and to maybe even feel like I was there myself instead there was no culture, no great descriptions and just following the three friends as they got drunk and acted stupid and immature. Blah.

Good beach/vacation read book! Three girls set out on a trip to Cancun to let off some stress after one of them breaks up (maybe?) with her boyfriend. Turns out that het boyfriend is also in Cancun and she'll spend the week trying to win him back, only to realize that her new fling found in Cancun is perfect for her. Good read if you want a mindless, frothy trope into sunny weather and steamy romance. I enjoyed this especially in the cold winter weather of the north! If this was a movie it would definitely be R rated due some steamy love scenes so you have been warned!
Thanks to NetGalley and MTV Books for the ARC of this.

Now, you know yours truly hates to DNF a book, especially before 20%, but the author keeps throwing passages like this at me:

"As tall as Grace was herself, Camille positively towered over most everyone else she met. Maybe thatโ€™s why she could always get away with not wearing heels. Grace, on the other hand, slumped over like a gargoyle unless tiny matchsticks on her feet forced her to stand up straight to keep balanced. Also, they made her legs look amazing."

I'm 40, not 20, so I know life is too short to spend on reading this.

The book seems to be about some college girls who drink to alcohol poisoning levels with no consquences, on a spontaneous vacation where one of them plans to stalk her ex-FWB, with some unfortunately xenophobic stereotypes thrown in.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

The Breakup vacation is a romance novel about Grace trying to get over her hookup situationship that she wants to be her boyfriend. She convinces her friends Tiff and Camille to go to Cancun on a girls trip but it's really to get Josh to fall in love with her.

I wouldn't say this book is a romance novel more of a smut book, it was quick read that I could see people reading on the beach. I wish the characters were more developed and the book went into more detail about Grace and Josh's relationship aka why she was so obsessed with him. Overall a steamy easy read just wish the plot/characters had more detail in it.

I finished this ARC because I had to, but it was a freakin struggle. No plot, just vibes. No character development, just vibes. I literally donโ€™t even know what I read.

Cute, crass, and I was completely scandalized. Although the book deals with deep concepts like race, identity, discrimination, patriarchy, and consent, the relatable characters and comedic dialogue make it easy to digest. I would recommend to people ages 20-25, with the caveat that this isnโ€™t real. Most people donโ€™t have rich friends whose parents pay for their vacations, during which they meet a perfect, respectful, attractive man who loves his family, has emotional intelligence, and volunteers teaching kids. Not everyone has a hot French study abroad roommate who cuts the line to get into clubs and knows celebrities. And most 22 year olds canโ€™t drink like these girls do and not end up in a hospital.

Thank you, Simon and Schuster publishers and Netgalley for an E-ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I'm sure there's longer explanatory reviews for what this book is not great, but for me the main character's narration was unbelievably annoying. The desire for someone she must win back although the 6 months or so that they dated we know nothing about?!?? Then there's the pitiful love interest of whom chemistry with the FMC is nonexistent, especially because she's hung up on stalking her ex. In the kindest way possible, take a romcom and put it in a blender and get a shredded trainwreck that is this novel.

Well, I loved the cover of this book. The movie quote kickoff for each chapter was kitschy and cute. Now. I donโ€™t want to rain on anyoneโ€™s parade, but Grace gave me the full-on ick immediately. Like, full-on bitter ex-theater kid or still theater kid idk all I know is that it was mentioned too many times. And that was just the first few pages. And speaking of that, her internal monologue about Caity, specifically the line about her name, was a real bummer. Especially once I found out the author is Asian herself. Like, for one of the positives in the lead-up for her new romance to be knowing the biracial struggle, that was really where you wanted to go with that? There was plenty of things she couldโ€™ve gone catty over without bringing cultural stereotypes into it. I understand sheโ€™s in college and youโ€™re so young still then, and can be immature, but that felt like more of a character flaw than anything. Sorry, rant over, maybe itโ€™s just me? But that did tinge the rest of my experience with the story, Iโ€™m not gonna lie. Sadly, the rest of the characters also fell flat to me or were just irksome. I almost felt bad for Daniel getting involved with them, but he was also a bit one-dimensional. Iโ€™m sorry, but also said Iโ€™d be honest for this review.

I think the nicest thing I can say is that this book just wasnโ€™t for me. Itโ€™s hard to stomach a read where the main character is so dislikable. I do appreciate the opportunity to be given an arc but it just isnโ€™t a book Iโ€™ll be recommending to my friends.

I really wanted to love this book because the premise was super cute. How ever, there were several downfalls that made me really struggle with the book.

- The characters lacked personality. I know that this is supposed to be a YA, (or maybe new adult) but the immaturity was abundant. I get that the FMC was chasing after her ex because she was convinced that she was in love with him, but it was the immaturity directed towards his new friend (the non-girlfriend even though she said they were just friends while being secretly in love with him)

- Chemistry between the FMC and the MMC (not the ex) was lacking. I just didn't feel it and it was hard to root for them.

That being said, thank you Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I wanted to like this one, but I couldn't like the MC and her friends. They just were genuinely not nice people and I didn't want to invest my time in knowing them. I liked the diversity of the MC but this book was not fantastic. I tried to like it. Sorry!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for advanced copy, and I give my review freely
