This book was just beautiful. Having lost my mother at a young age, I could definitely feel all of the emotions that she poured into the story. Very well written and absorbing thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.

Anna Quindlen is always a guaranteed must read for me and because of that fact, I never read her book’s descriptions. I loved going into her latest novel After Annie completely blind! I need to come right out and say that After Annie is my new favorite from her to date which is really saying something because I adore her novels !!! This character driven novel, grabbed me by the heart in the very first couple pages. After Annie is an emotional novel centering around grief, life altering changes, love, acceptance, and finding your new normal when least you expect it! After Annie is a 5+++ star novel that will absolutely stay with me! This gem is most definitely one of my top reads of the whole year! If you’re looking for a fantastic book club selection, than this is the book for you!
After Annie Brown dies suddenly at home, her husband, four young children, and childhood best friend, Annemarie, try to cope with her absence .Anna Quindlen portrays their lives during the following year with genuineness and empathy and drew me in so completely that I read the book in one day.

Tender, moving story of the grieving process experienced by family and friends when the central figure in their lives dies suddenly and unexpectedly. The adage that there is more than one way to grieve is demonstrated as Annie’s husband, children and best friend try to find a way to acceptance of their new reality. There are many stumbling blocks along the way, but ultimately, they all find that it’s ok to remember and to move on at the same time.
Thank you to Netgalley for advance copy. This book publishes March of 2024!
I enjoyed reading this book although there were plenty of struggles that 4 young children and their father met when Annie, wife and mother, passed away suddenly.
This tale is a peek into each one’s life in the year following Annie’s death. Mostly told from the viewpoint of the oldest girl,Ali, the book looks at ways grief can manifest, strength of friendships, family ties and love!
The characters were diverse and kept me engaged.
This is such a powerful story, filled with characters who are so relatable, they stay with the reader for a long time. Annie, a wife and mother of four young children, dies suddenly, of a brain aneurism, in the first few pages of the book. We see how firmly she is woven into her family, friends, work and community, all of whom feel her absence keenly. Her husband, her 13 year old daughter, and her troubled best friend must all learn to live without her, and it isn't easy. They all learn to grow and become stronger in this page-turning, incredibly satisfying story.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this E-arc for my honest review.
An incredible, thoughtful, touching story by Anna Quindlen that made me laugh and cry. This book was told from the view of Annie’s daughter and her best friend, both who loved her dearly and captured her beautiful soul perfectly.
WOW! Anna Quindlen outdid herself on her newest novel. It was heartbreakingly sad, yet filled with hope & left me longing for a friendship like Annie and Annemarie had. Truly, one of the very best character driven novels I have ever read. I had a real sense of who each of her children were, and the relationships between all the characters were so true and heartfelt. . What will I possibly read after this book?
I read several of Anna Quindlen's books ten years ago or so, including Miller's Valley, One True Thing, and Every Last One. They were enjoyable, but Still Life With Bread Crumbs aggravated me so much that I quit reading her novels. I'm happy to say that After Annie was a wonderful read for me, free of any aggravation. I read it in two sittings which rarely happens anymore.
Quindlen tells the compelling story of Annie, her husband, four young children, and her best friend, and what happens to them after Annie literally drops dead on the kitchen floor. They all grieve in their own ways, some of them cope in better ways than others, and some of them grow in good ways. It's heartwarming and honest, but not maudlin. The author has written one of the best stories about death, loss, grief, change, and hope that I've read recently.
Thank you to Random House and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book. This book will be published on March 12, 2024.
Wow, just Wow! I just finished reading this tender, achingly raw novel and my first thought is that I will never forget these characters, especially Ali, Annie’s daughter, Bill, Annie’s husband, and Annemarie, Annie’s closest friend. These are the people through whose eyes the loss of Annie is experienced and told.
The Author’s storytelling is emotionally spot-on and my heart was aching for all involved. Yes, the story is about a tremendous loss, but it is also about hope and possibility. And I will add… thank heaven for compassionate guidance counselors.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is an exquisitely written book about the impact of the sudden death of a woman on the lives of her husband, children and closest friend. Quindlen examines the seasons of change and growth after the mother, the heart, of a family dies.
It is the oldest daughter Ali who must take over much of what Annie did. The younger children fall apart and the father, Bill, doesn’t seem up to the task. Yet, we see that even the worst possible moments can bring positive change.
The book also has the subplot of the effects on Annemarie, Annie’s dearest friend. Here too, the reader is presented with the most glorious form of hope and change as Annemarie changes her life.
The novel is about death and rebirth, beautifully told by a sensitive, thoughtful author. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read, review and recommend this book.
Annie, a mom, to four children dies suddenly of natural causes at the beginning of the novel. The novel then explores grief and hiw the family copes without their matriarch. It is beautifully written and i loved it.
A story of the a family struggling with grief after their young wife and mother dies unexpectedly. Over the course of one year we see how love and loss affects not only her husband and children but also her best friend.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the Kindle ARC. I've been reading Anna Quindlen's books since I was a young woman and I'm always glad when I find that she's published another one. After Annie is about a young mother of four who dies suddenly at home after complaining of a headache. Her husband Bill and their four children are stunned and don't know how to move on without Annie. Her death impacts lives outside of her family also. After Annie is written with raw honesty and emotion without being overly dramatic or depressing. Its a look into the daily lives of a family struggling to recover from the loss of the person who held the family together. Its so realistic and a slice of life that many of us hope to never endure.
I should have loved After Annie, but I did not. Annie dies suddenly, leaving her husband, four children and best friend to grieve. The book spans the year after her death, but one quarter of the way through we were still on the day of her funeral. I usually am drawn to books that are about families, and yes, even about death. This one should have marked off all the boxes for me. But something felt forced and unnatural about it. I have been a fan of Anna Quindlen for a long time and will continue to be. I suspect many others will love this book. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
This popular talented author has written a cannot put down story. Unique characters. Secrets. Family bonds. Friends. Living and dying. Another book by Quindlen…a gift to the reader. This story is so real. I could not put it down. Really liked this story. Fantastic quick read. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. Thought provoking. Thanks to Netgalley.
A very moving story about a family struggling to move on after the woman who held them all together dies. Another great book by Anna Quindlen!
A quick but meaningful book. Quindlen has once again crafted a deeply moving story about love and loss. I devoured this in a day. Love her writing style. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
A beautifully written book about a mother who died young, and how her death and life affected her family and best friend over the next year. It was touching and not over the top sad. I would recommend it!
