I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
** I received this book as an arc through NetGalley**
The Highest Bidder is the 5th installment of The Salacious Players' Club by Sara Kate. This book follows a middle-aged, silver fox billionaire- Ronan Kade and a cutesy 21-year old blonde bartender, Daisy Bennett. Daisy works in the club that Ronan is a member of and its not by coincidence that Daisy works there. They QUICKLY fall in love and face ups and downs, as all romance couples do. With an added twist that Daisy's mom and Ronan had a romance less than a decade before- surprise!!! I did enjoy this book, but I liked the previous books better. I felt like Ronan and Daisy's story was so fast and they went from virtual strangers to being engaged way too quickly. But it was a good read and I will continue with the series.
I'd recommend Highest Bidder to anyone who likes previous books from The Salacious Players' Club or if you like large age-gap romances, You must also enjoy or at least tolerate the "daddy" trope, because man, does Daisy love calling Ronan Daddy.. almost as much as Ronan likes calling himself Daisy's Daddy. Just be prepared for that.
Spice rating: 4.3/5
Overall rating: 7.5/ 10
I mostly enjoyed the fifth book of Salacious Players Club. I was wary about the characters not being the OG Club owners, but thought Ronan and Daisy fit in pretty well.
I loved Ronan’s backstory, getting to know Gio and Eden a little more, and Daisy learning more about herself. Ronan as a caretaking pleasure Dom was fun to see play out- Sara Cate writes doms well! Ronan’s actions honestly helped me figure out a few nonnegotiables in my own relationships.
I know the whole series has age gaps but this one was too much for me. Daisy's age SHOWED. The dd/lg dynamic seemed too realistic and less like play between experienced adults. It ended with my least favorite trope which made it a bit creepier.
Probably my least favorite of the series but still a good read if you're into the series.
I am very excited to read Madame since Eden is so intriguing!
This whole series has been SOOOO spicy, but I love it! I was a little put off by the fact that Ronan had dated Daisy's mom back in the day, so that gave me a little bit of the ick to think about. However, I do have to give Daisy props for auctioning herself off at her job and freaking thank god Ronan is the one who snatched her up.
I enjoyed the other books in the Salacious Players series, and this one was no exception. It wasn’t my favorite out of the series, but I did enjoy it. It was a quick read, with a perfect amount of plot and spice. Overall, I thought it was a well-done age gap romance, and I’m glad the characters got a HEA.
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the ARC!
I loved it. Although, didn't love that he was in love with her mom first and probably did all the kinky dom/sub stuff with her too. That was just plain disturbing. He could've literally been her daddy, and for a while he lowkey was
I have enjoyed the books in the Salacious Player's Club series before but this one missed the mark for me. I didn't believe the characters were in love and didn't like that the secret Daisy was keeping was such a big part of the book until the end, where it seemed like the issue resolved too quickly. The sex scenes were hot but predictable.
Oh, boy. I was not ready for this book.
I expected the age gap, the Daddy kink, the BDSM... I didn't expect a thirty-five year age gap, where he was previously deeply in love with her mother. But even all that, I could cope with. It didn't go completely off the rails until the...accidental pregnancy! There's just something about a 21-year-old woman and her child both calling a 56-year-old man Daddy that gives me the ick. And beyond that, there's the fact that despite Daisy and Ronan's tumultous relationship, nothing ever gets resolved. Why break up in the middle of the book to take time for "personal growth", if no growth happens? They get back together two months later and fall back into the same old Daddy/baby girl routine, except even weirder because now she's pregnant.
What a silly goofy weird book this was.
I normally love books like this and I have read and enjoyed the other books in this series, but this one fell flat. I think there was a lot of potential for this storyline and unfortunately, it was wasted. Is the spice hot? Yes!! Did I find myself envious at times? Yes!! Do I like the author's writing style? Yes!! All of these things helped increase my rating. It would have been lower if I was rating the story by itself. Overall, there was more wrong with this book than there was right and that pains me to say it.
I enjoyed the characters, but they felt underdeveloped. Plus, their "relationship" felt very forced - as in the author forced it, not as in one of the characters forced it. I know it is fiction, but these characters both have better matches out there. While unlikely pairs can be fun to read about, this unlikely pair should not have happened. Ronan and Daisy both deserved a better story than this.
I feel like this particular book contains several tropes/triggers as a way to try to make the story edgy and draw in people who may not normally read the book, but they just didn't flow well. I really wanted to enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the other books in the series, but I couldn't. I don't know if the story was rushed for publication, if the author just didn't get "into" this story as much as the others, or what - but I can say that I was disappointed and that is a first for me. I normally love Sara Cate's books!
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me a copy of this ebook for an honest review.
Secretly each of us wish we had a sugar daddy, somone to whisk us away to Paris on this private jet. Bonus points if he helps you explore your kinks and gave your mom 1 million dollars for your college education when you were a child
The story was 2.5/5, smut was 5/5.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy the story, it just included my least favorite trope where one character knows something but decides to keep it a secret from the other because they "don't want to hurt the other person by sharing the secret" or "Are scared what the other person would think" like babes, you gotta rip off the band aid at some point and get over yourself. I felt the story also moved way too fast to the "I Love You's" and "Will You Marry Me", like, they essentially didn't know each other at all if he had no idea she was his ex lovers child?? I feel like parents a big topic of discussion when you get with someone, especially when talking of marriage? Idk.
The story just was not for my taste at all. And I knew that early on. But I stuck around because BOY does Cate know how to write spice. The Eiffel Tower scene??? PHEWY. Yeah that was good.
The Salacious Players Club is one heck of a series! “Highest Bidder” is definitely my fave alongside “Give Me More”.
We have gotten glimpses of the enigmatic Ronan throughout the series. He is older (Mid 50s) sexy as sin billionaire with a heart of gold. I was not expecting to fall in love with Daddy Ronan. But my goodness he stole my heart.
I’m a huge fan of age gap stories. But Daisy and Ronan is probably the largest age gap I’ve read. Sara Cate did an outstanding job of convincing us why despite the 30 something year age gap, that these two were meant to be.
YASSSS this one serveddd daddy kink i love how open and accepting this series is to different kinks and sexualities it's so refreshing!! ronan was soooo hot i love how obsessed he was with daisy he was. the two of them brought the best out of each other! and of course this book was SO hot!
I absolutely loved this book! I’m obsessed with anything Sara cate and this did not disappoint. I fell in love with the story and the characters. I will definitely suggest this book at my job and will handsell this to any romance lovers and those who love a good age gap romance!
The age gap and family connection in this one made it my least favorite of the Salacious Player Club so far. I still enjoy the world built by the author, but this was not my favorite relationship dynamic.
Ronan Kade is the definition of filthy rich-silver fox daddy. Like the other book in the series its about billionaire romance, very ADULT ROMANCE, kinks, and age-gap. The only thing that I didn't like about this book is that Ronan had a connection with Daisy's mom, who used to be his ex. It would've been better if they really had no connection at all (just a preference), because it is quite a turn-off especially when Daisy was like "knowing that I fell for the same man my mother did made me feel strangely close to her. Without thinking about the gross parts, of course. I love that her heartbeat for the same person mine did, and that means something. Like she’s still here.” Though the tags and the series indeed advertise adult romance, assuming there's a lot of descriptive smut, there wasn't really anything, it is not as smutty as fifty shades
Another amazing story within the SPC series. This story was so amazing and I can not get enough of these. I need another one now! These are so among and engrossing and addicting in the best possible way.
If you are looking for a fun, quick, & spicy read, you can never go wrong with Sara Cate, especially her Salacious Players Club Series. Highest Bidder wasn't my favorite in the series but I still had fun reading it!
