Enjoyed this as much as I did the first, great story and fast paced. Carried on well from the first and it was easy to get back into, the characters were great and so was the writing
I really enjoyed this! It moved at a good pace and is unique. The characters are well developed. I haven't read the first book of the series (yet) and I was able to understand the world well and I think that shows how well the world and characters are written. Overall, this was a great read and I would recommend it. Special Thank you to Dani Resh, Warren Publishing, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy prior to publication in exchange for an honest review.
I haven't been the target audience for this book for 15-20 years, but that did not make this book less enjoyable. Since this is book 2 in the Magic Shoe series, I also read the first book (Compass to Vinland) very recently. It's easy to see that this author has grown quite a bit in her writing between those two books.
+ Although the first book has a fun set-up for a story and introduces most of the important characters, the second book really fleshes them out. It's been fun to get more background on the kids, the adult side characters and the world. I would love it if the next book offered some more insight in the lore, but so far it's very interesting to read about the different creatures and Vins.
- At times, the pacing was sometimes too quick and sometimes too slow, making it harder to remain focused at times. The book also contained some minor issues with sentence structure and could do with another quick round of editing.
All in all this was a fun read and I do think that if I were younger, this could have been a favourite for me.
