I love a John marrs thriller. Where with other authors you have to wait til either half way or the end for the twist John's book start straight off with them.
Really enjoyed this book, loved and hated the characters. It's a book you can't put down so be warned.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. I am a massive fan of John Marrs so I was thrilled to be accepted to read his new book. What can I say apart from WOW! I was totally hooked after the first page and I literally read it in one sitting as I just couldn’t put it down. I don’t want to give any spoilers but I will say it made me gasp in shock quite a few times. Fabulous twists and a thoroughly thought provoking story. It has really made me think about how vulnerable some people are and the cruelty that exists. This story I will remember for a long time. Amazing read and definitely a 5 star book.
This book was bananas! A new fear of elderly abuse unlocked. I liked the plot, it made me feel almost claustrophobic.
Loved the twisted ending as always! JM never disappoints with characters that I love and hate. Thank you for the advanced review on Net Galley!!
A new book by John Marrs is a ‘throw all other books aside and jump in straight away’, therefore you can imagine I was very excited to get a copy! This definitely lived up to expectation and offered a dark, twisty ride.
Connie spends her days caring for her mother Gwen, who has dementia. One day Paul arrives who insists he is there charitably, to offer help to the elderly. Connie is wary and does not like how much Paul is infiltrating their lives. Is Paul legitimate and just how far will she go to uncover the truth?
The story kept me guessing throughout and I never knew who to trust. What follows is a complex cat and mouse thriller, which cleverly makes you unable to remove your eyes from the page. The characters are very well written (although unlikeable) and I found myself shouting out angrily about their actions; which proves to me how good the story was as they definitely got into my head! The plot twists and turns towards its final reveal and although I did guess some of the twists it did not retract from the overall story. The only downside to me was the amount of different perspectives as I found it hard to differentiate between a few. Overall this is a fast paced, gripping thriller not to be missed and I can not wait to see what the author’s next book will be! 4.5 stars. Thanks very much to the publisher and NetGalley for this copy in return for an honest review.
I love a good John Marrs book.
This one unfortunately wasn't a favorite.
It had a lot going on and a few twists that I didn't expect which was good. But didn't have me totally integrated in it for some reason. The characters were just ok in my opinion.
Hope you enjoy reading this book
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.
Wow! I don't even know where to start with the praise for this nail-biter. It ticked all my boxes and then some for outstanding qualities in a psychological thriller. I was sucked in from the first page and raced with mounting anxiety and nonstop tension to reach the end. Prepare yourself, because this book is dark and twisted. You'll think that you know, but you won't. It will not just play with your emotions, it will chew them up and spit them out. I seethed with anger the majority of the time. Dementia plays a huge part in the plot, so as someone with firsthand experience in witnessing a loved one deteriorate from this disease, the sheer stupidity of some of the characters' actions in this book made my blood boil. Marrs did an excellent job portraying the affects of this illness on the victim as well as the caregiver, and turning it into one of the most messed up stories I have ever read. I think that Paul is my new number one top hated character of all. Thank you, John Marrs, for writing another crazy, clever, fantastic thriller! It's a definite must read!
Thank you to the author, Thomas & Mercer, and NetGalley for granting me digital access in exchange for my honest review!
I really enjoyed this book! The characters had me hooked to the story and I felt myself sympathizing and disliking them and their actions. I couldn’t predict where it was going but enjoyed the ride!
