Bright Lights, Big Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews is a heartwarming romance that’s full of charm! I absolutely loved how the Tolliver Family Tree Farm created a cozy little village right in the middle of New York City—such a unique setting that made the book feel even more magical.
The characters were wonderfully developed and so easy to connect with. This book is lighthearted and fun, with the perfect blend of tension, mystery, and just the right touch of romance. It’s a story about family, friendship, self-discovery, and of course, love, but it doesn’t feel overly sappy—it strikes the perfect balance.
As always, Mary Kay Andrews has nailed it with this one. It’s uplifting, cheerful, and a true delight to read. This book will definitely be added to my holiday bookshelf for many cozy, festive reads in the future.

Bright Lights, Big Christmas is yet another cozy holiday novel from Mary Kay Andrews. Set in the bustling center of New York City, we follow a family of Christmas tree farmers working to sell enough trees to support the farm for the next year. This absolutely adorable romance will have you flipping pages to make sure that all of your favorite characters get their happy ending. This one is definitely my favorite holiday romance from Andrews so far!

Mary Kay Andrews brings holiday magic to life in Bright Lights, Big Christmas, a charming novella about family, new beginnings, and unexpected romance. Kerry Tolliver leaves her family’s North Carolina Christmas tree farm for New York City, where she helps her brother sell trees in Greenwich Village. As she navigates the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, she bonds with the quirky neighbors near their stand, finds herself drawn into a mystery when an elderly resident goes missing, and slowly falls for Patrick, a single dad raising his dragon-obsessed son, Austin. Andrews crafts a feel-good story about carving out a place to belong—even in the most unexpected of settings.
The holiday atmosphere is immersive, and the cast of characters is endearing, though the romance between Kerry and Patrick feels a bit rushed due to the novella’s length. While the story follows a predictable holiday rom-com formula, it still delivers plenty of heartwarming moments and festive charm. Fans of cozy holiday reads will find this one perfect for curling up with a cup of hot cocoa.
Kathleen McInerney’s narration adds an extra layer of warmth and charm to the story. Her ability to differentiate character voices makes each interaction lively, and she captures Kerry’s small-town wonder and Patrick’s quiet strength with ease. The pacing is smooth, and her tone perfectly suits the book’s lighthearted yet heartfelt nature. While some emotional moments could have used a bit more depth in delivery, overall, McInerney’s narration enhances the festive, cozy feel of the novel, making it an enjoyable listen for the holiday season.

I had a hard time getting into this book and this wasn't really my jam. I feel like this was a me problem and not an author or writing problem. I will give Mary Kay Andrews another shot in the future.

This was a super quick, really cute holiday book. Loved the narrator and the characters and little bit of magic in it!

So magical! The cozy, snow-dusted setting felt like stepping into a holiday postcard, and the story was filled with moments of joy, love, and redemption. The characters were charming and relatable, each carrying a touch of holiday magic that made their journeys feel special. The blend of festive traditions, heartfelt connections, and a touch of whimsy made it impossible not to smile while reading. It was the perfect reminder of what makes the holidays so special, leaving me with a warm and cheerful glow long after the last page.

This was so fun and sweet. Love a found family in a close neighborhood. The city tree farm was so charming. So many issues and loved all the different neighbors and the romances. Especially loved the grumpy old man.

Mary Kay Andrews delivers a delightful holiday novel with Bright Lights, Big Christmas. Set against the magical backdrop of a bustling Manhattan Christmas tree lot, the story captures the essence of holiday spirit, family bonds, and unexpected romance.
The main character, Kerry Tolliver, is relatable and endearing as she navigates her own struggles while helping her family run their holiday business. The supporting characters, especially Patrick, the charming neighbor, and Austin, his adorable son, add depth and humor to the story. Andrews has a knack for creating vivid settings, and her descriptions of New York City during the holidays are enchanting.
While the story is predictable at times, it’s part of what makes it such a cozy and comforting read. The themes of resilience, love, and community are heartwarming, making this book a perfect companion for a chilly December evening.

Review of Bright Lights, Big Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews
I am such a huge fan of this author. Her books are always an auto buy for me. I didn’t have to buy this one though because my good friend @groundedinreads actually got me an auto sent it to me. Thank you so much Cindy. I will treasure this forever and it will always have a spot on my shelf. I listened to this one while I read my autographed copy. It was a very quick read for me and I did read it a week or two before Christmas. Yes I am that far behind on my reviews. I loved this book. The characters were amazing. I loved the setting of New York City and the season which was Christmas. The author has a way of making you fall in love with the characters and you can’t wait to happen find out what happens with their stories. I probably will read this one every few Christmases.
Quick synopsis:
When fall rolls around, it’s time for Kerry Tolliver to leave her family’s Christmas tree farm in the mountains of North Carolina for the wilds of New York City to help her gruff older brother & his dog, Queenie, sell the trees at the family stand on a corner in Greenwich Village. Sharing a tiny vintage camper and experiencing Manhattan for the first time, Kerry’s ready to try to carve out a new corner for herself.
In the weeks leading into Christmas, Kerry quickly becomes close with the charming neighbors who live near their stand. When an elderly neighbor goes missing, Kerry will need to combine her country know-how with her newly acquired New York knowledge to protect the new friends she’s come to think of as family,
And complicating everything is Patrick, a single dad raising his adorable, dragon-loving son Austin on this quirky block. Kerry and Patrick’s chemistry is undeniable, but what chance does this holiday romance really have?

Christmas, sweet romance, adorable kid, kind main character truly made this book magical. The supporting characters were charming and likeable. It may be a few months after Christmas by the time I finished this book, but it brought a lot of warm fuzzy feelings that I get right before Christmas.

Mary Kay Andrew's is the absolute best at creating these sweet Christmas-y books that are simultaneously light and very touching.
