I read Wolfsong years ago (and loved it, as a matter of fact) so once I saw the re-release of Heartsong on Netgalley I decided it was time to attempt to finish the series.
Ravensong was a second-chance trope that was angsty and heartbreakingly painful, so I was excited for Heartsong and the lack of angstyness.
Wrong.
Angst abounds. Insert amnesia (due to magical interference!) trope and god, how painful it was. While I love T.J. Klune’s writing, this one was heartbreaking like I was missing their love story. Robbie and Kelly were mates for years before this story begins and it’s all about their journey back to each other. And the main bad guy is STILL around and will you just die???
By the end, I had cried and laughed, and it all just reaffirms how much I love T.J. Klune’s books. Because even though this one was angsty and heart wrenching, I still enjoyed Heartsong.
Only one more book to finish the series…but maybe I need to watch a romcom as a palate cleanser first. Thank you to Tor Publishing Group for the review copy.
The way Robbie’s story unfolded was very clever! I was a little confused at first, but it all made sense as things were revealed. Like the previous books, Heartsong was an emotional ride. TJ Klune had me laughing one moment and then tearing up the next. The focus of the story was less on romance and more on Robbie’s journey and growth. The ending felt a bit rushed and I wish we had more page time with Kelly and Robbie (versus the highlight reel of their relationship). I love all these characters though and am looking forward to Carter’s story next.
I’m a broken record, but Kirt Graves was excellent once again. Robbie’s accent was a little awkward for me at first, but I loved how much emotion and the variety of voices Kirt Graves used to bring these stories to life. I’m so happy I chose to read this series via audiobook.

I did not realize at the story's start just how invested I would get in these characters. This is a fantasy battle between good & evil, but it's also full of loving relationships and heartbreaking decisions. I found it enthralling once I got familiar with the characters and the challenges they faced, old and new.
For me, the start was a bit slow and confusing; I believe that would not have happened had I read Klune's two earlier novels in this series about the Bennett wolf pack. But by the time Robbie was back with the Bennett pack and beginning to question his year-long memory lapse I found the story hard to put down.
Heartsong is filled with heroic characters. Yes, they demonstrate physical bravery but, maybe just as crucially, they are courageous emotionally, freely sharing their love, fears and ambitions. Each member of the Bennett pack has an integral part in the novel as it unfolds and they prepare to join battle with the enemy that would destroy their close-knit community. It's inspiring the way they stand up for each other and those needing their help, offering themselves up in the ultimate sacrifice. Thrilling, really. But there are playful moments too that demonstrate their strong bond. And Kelly and Robbie's love story is tender and beautiful.
Heartsong is only the second of Klune's novels that I've read, but I'm really taken by the depths of emotion I found in the Under the Whispering Door and Heartsong. I didn't find them easy reads, but they inspired thoughtfulness and empathy. I'll definitely be reading more.
Thanks to Tor Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Heartsong continues with the story of a tight knit group who shifted into a wolf pack with family ties and relationships a plenty.

This is Robbie’s story, telling how he was taken from his pack and their fight to get him back. The overwhelming theme is love for each other.
The characters are so genuine. They almost have an innocence about them, yet they are fighters. They have a pack’s protectiveness, even in their human forms.
Evil comes after them yet again as they can’t seem to get away from it. I love watching them fight this evil throughout this series.
This book is well-written, allowing both human and wolf to come through. Something about it draws me in.
💕Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing this ebook for me to read and review.
Robbie and Kelly hold a special place in my heart. While they're not my favorite Greencreek pairing, Joe and Ox will always be BAE, I do still adore them. Kelly is a wonderful cinnamon roll that must be protected at all cost. It's a little unrealistic that all three brothers end up with male partners (sorry, spoilers) but I still enjoyed the journey. Memory loss is an interesting plot point and I think that Klune does it well with Robbie. I enjoy how Kelly is asexual and yet still gets to have a loving partner. The representation of healthy straight couples also gets a boost with this book, while the idea that mothers are saints is still an idealized representation. I have read and will continue to read all of the Greencreek books, Wolfsong will always be special to me, and even if it wasn't the story is still very well written and lovely. Recommend this to anyone who enjoys a love story and a reconnection/second chance story.
I love T J Klune and haven’t read a book I didn’t really enjoy. I haven’t read the first two books and didn’t realize that Heartsong was part of a trilogy. With that said, I enjoyed the book but to me it was a bit slow paced. I read other books in between this one. I do love the journey of Kelly and Robbie and really felt bad for Kelly after Robbie’s return to their pack. The other character of Green Creek are also wonderful, especially the female characters and I do have a soft spot for the carters and Ox. This book is about family loyalty within the pack, love and trust which Robbie is having a hard time coming to grips with because of betrayal from both packs he has lived in.
You can’t go wrong with a Klune book and he always includes many different characters that everyone can relate to

This is the third book in the Green Creek Series. This series has already been published and this version was a refresh and release.
HeartSong is the continuation of WolfSong a fantasy romance series. I’m quite fond of the quirky, unique characters of Green Creek and thought this may have been the best book yet! These books should be read in order of publication.
This book focuses on Robbie Fontaine. The wolf that was originally sent to spy on the Bennett pack but instead he found a home and the love of his life.
Robbie can’t remember. He feels foggy all the time and dreams every night. He dreams of wolves and sun and grass and it’s peaceful. When he is awake he can’t remember. He slugs through life at the compound being told by his Alpha and the pack witch that he is where he belongs and has always been there but something is always missing.
Robbie leaves the compound for a short break and discovers a whole life he can’t remember. The Bennett pack, a home and a community that feels right but he cannot for the life of him remember any of it. His memories were stolen but memories aren’t everything.
Kelly Bennett is his mate, he may not remember but he can still feel it. As his pack and family work together to help him remember and bring him back into their protection, their enemies are plotting to destroy them again. While Robbie continues to find his way the pack is terrified he can be used against them again. How can they expect to overcome the most powerful witch in history with a shattered pack and shredded bonds.
I’ve enjoyed this entire series! The first two books were really about story setting and world building. Understanding the history and deep relationships. Robbie’s story really focused on his relationship with the pack as an outsider and his bond with Kelly. This is a four star read for me and I’m looking forward to the next book!

#NetGalley #tjklune #heartsong
I enjoy the story of Heartsong, however I felt like I am missing a big chunk of the story line and that is completely my fault. I did not realize that this was a part of a series and I stongly believe that I would have a different feeling about this had I started from the first two books. It has the magic of TJ Klune’s art , I am not gonna lie about that. The fantasy was rich of course, and the giddiness from the love story of this book is pure!
This one felt a bit different than the first two. As we join Robbie on his journey of discovery, Klune does a great job of building tension. You’re sucked in and have to keep reading. The side characters don’t get as much screen time in this one, which is disappointing, but what time they do get is great. The ending gives you a lot to think about and I’m very excited for the sequel!
TJ Klune’s “Heartsong” is like a fictional werewolf bite which joined me to a mate/pack. That’s how powerfully I connect to its characters. Each time I read Klune I wonder. “How anyone can write this well?”
Plot: Will someone with amnesia fall in love with the same person twice? The Bennetts “kidnap” Robbie back from the evil Livingstone who treated Robbie like a beloved son while wiping Robbie’s mind. Now Robbie must recall that the Bennetts are actually ”good guys,” that he (still/once more) loves Kelly Bennett, and that he attacked his pack members under Livingstone’s control. Meanwhile, the Bennetts must knit themselves together and win back Robbie’s trust for the upcoming battle against Livingstone, who will surely use Robbie’s prior mind control against the Bennetts.
This is a complicated, on-going storyline, with lots of characters and I read the Green Creek books about a year apart. Yet within moments of starting “Heartsong,” I recalled all the individuals because each personality is distinctive. Theyinteract with tender sarcastic humor, consideration and obvious love. In choosing a wolf-shifter theme, Klune uses the “pack” concept to create ideal family dynamics. Sigh!
Likewise, the intricate plot remains clear, with the perfect details/reminders of past events cleverly tucked into current events so there’s no break in reader’s flow and I easily followed new circumstances. The novel was equally heart-wrenching as life affirming and I immediately nabbed the final installment.
So how does Klune do it? Brilliantly! For example, with large parts written in italics to demarcate the wolf voice I saw how human and animal sides interact. What a great parallel to our instinctive/creative and logical sides. Klune doesn’t minimize people into caricatures but flushes out our real natures. I cried, laughed, related and wished for a family as solid as the Bennetts.
“Heartsong,” the third of four Green Creek novels, isn’t a standalone. If you haven’t read the first two consider yourself lucky. They’re also 5 star, so prepare to be wowed!
True story: When my husband was in early dementia, he asked me to read him Klune’s novels. Often it appeared he didn’t fully follow the plot. I asked what he enjoyed. He struck his chest. “I feel these people, right here.” “Heartsong” has all the feels and more.
I love TJ Klune's books so i was beyond excited to receive this one. I was not disappointed and I would want to continue the series. It was well-written and very descriptive as TJ tends to be
Why does the Green Creek Series ALWAYS rip my heart out and put me through the emotional ringer? I truly had to take a break after each of these installments.
This installment features Robbie and Kelly. Kelly has been one of my favorite characters since book one so I was truly hoping he had a story worth his little heart <3 I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED.
I'm both incredibly excited, and dreading the final installment of this series.
I couldn’t love this series or these characters more. I’ve mentioned before that if this pack has openings, I’m applying.
This series features a large ensemble cast, and I love that each book focuses on different characters. It allows the reader to get to know them better and see things that may have happened off in the wings of the other characters’ stories. Robbie’s tale both shocked me and broke my heart, but I cheered him on every step of the way. After the death of his mother when he was a young boy, he’s looked for a place to belong, a family that loves him. He thinks he’s finally found it, but then it’s ripped away. Someone is lying to him, but he can’t be sure who.
The Bennett story arc begun in the first book continues, with their pack battling against their enemies. I was so excited to spend time with these characters again. Their bonds are incredibly strong, the love is there, and their snark and quips to each other never fail to make me laugh out loud. I listened to the audiobook and narrator Kirt Graves is absolutely on my list of favorites.
I’m anxious to read the last book in the series, but it’s also bittersweet because I don’t want to say goodbye to these characters. If you’re drawn to novels featuring found family, Klune is a master.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This series has such a hold on me that I am honestly not sure what I am going to do with my life after I finish it.
I spent a good portion of this book with tears in my eyes - tears of joy, tears of laughter, tear of sorrow. This series is breaking me in the best possible way and I absolutely need to read Brothersong immediately.
On a side note, when you think the bad guy can't get any worse, they somehow manage to out-worst themselves.
I received an ARC from Netgallery and because I am leaving for a weekend away (hence the ridiculously short review because I'm trying to pack at the same time), I have left an honest review.
TJ Klune writes the most magically wonderful characters. The whimsy and depth of his stories are unique and heart-warming. This was no exception.
Thank you NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group!
Oh man! This is a soft 3.
This book is for adults but reads like a YA (in my opinion). There is little action until the end, there is a rather sickeningly sweet love story, and a big baddy that just seems one dimensional. The pros are that there is a bunch of queer representation and there are some genuinely emotional moments.
Robbie Fontaine, seeking a place to belong, finds solace in Caswell, Maine. As the trusted second to Alpha Michelle Hughes, he learns the true meaning of pack and home. However, a mission unveils whispers of betrayal and wild magic, leaving Robbie questioning his allegiance. The suspenseful and sweet story revolves around his quest for truth, entwined with the possibility of a mate in Kelly Bennett. "Heartsong" explores loyalty and the unraveling of secrets that threaten to shatter everything.
Thank you NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for sending this eARC for review consideration.
The third book in the Green Creek series follows Robbie Fontaine and gives us a unique look at the characters we've already come to love. Up to now we've had an insider pass to the Green Creek pack(s), and now we get to know them again from an outsider's perspective. It's this getting to know them that I found so entertaining. Imagine meeting everyone again for the first time, not knowing their stories. Klune has once again delivered a book that makes me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. If you like queer romance, gay werewolves, a bit of forgetfulness, and a lot of pack cuddling, then you need this in your life.
I don’t think its possible to express just how much I love this series. The growth of each character is like nothing I’ve read before. They are all so different and yet still a part of one big happy family. (The most amazing family you will ever meet.)
Any opportunity I get to recommend a book so someone Wolfsong is one of the first books that come to mind. I could talk to hours about each and every character. Kelly and Robbie were just as cute as Joe and Ox. You get to see their relationship blossom slowly throughout the books and this book striped them of that and made their relationship 10x what it was before.
Elizabeth is the mom that you didn’t know you needed and will be there for you no matter what. She was easily my favorite character in this book.
Each hill that Robbie had to climb in order to get back to where he once was only made him and the relationships he formed that much better.
If you take anything from this review just know that you will not regret reading this book. 100% recommend.
Oh, TJ Klune, you are a brilliant man! To be honest, I wasn’t as excited to jump into book three when I knew it was about Robbie. He isn’t an OG, and you don’t get to know him that well in book two. I am so glad to report that I was so wrong. This book might be my favorite of the three! We are focusing on Robbie and Kelly.
We jump time and we are with Robbie on a compound. It’s a bit confusing because that’s not quite what we remember, right?! It was jarring and I was trying to figure out what was going on. Considering the last two books it’s a different approach. In the end, it makes sense but you just need to hang in there. It will all make sense eventually. haha. Something to note is that the overall plot of this book moves at a snail’s pace. I’m not saying that the book itself does, just the actual plot.
We get Robbie’s backstory right away, and I knew this was going to be a heartbreaking story. I cried so many times. I have to quote a moment in the book because it’s what I kept telling my husband. haha!
“I’m not crying. My eyes are sweating.”
I have a love for all of these characters, even the ones that are no longer with us. Klune does such a fabulous job pulling in from previous characters and making you fall in love with them all over again. I’m trying so hard to not do spoilers here so I’m going to try and keep it vague. Robbie and Kelly are so sweet and their love for each other is inspiring. It’s crazy what all they have to go through but their character arcs are just so beautifully written. Robbie might have become one of my favorites and I never thought I would be saying that!
I have to take a minute to talk about all our supporting characters, aka the pack. The humans are dwindling but gosh are they amazing. Jessie is a character that I have loved from the get go! I have always loved Elizabeth and her Queen status with the pack. In this book, she really steps up and I love her for it. Rico has huge character growth in this book too and he gives some great humor in intense moments.
“We are literally the gayest pack that has ever existed,” Rico said to no one in particular. “I see no problem with this.”
Overall, this was an amazing book and I cannot wait for Brothersong. I know, I will have to keep the tissues handy because things have become intense. I don’t know if I’m ready for the conclusion but I’m going to love every minute of it. I highly recommend this series if you are a fan of TJ Klune and werewolves!
Many thanks to Tor and Netgalley for an e-arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own!
