Birtle and the Purple Turtles is a cute story of acceptance. Cute pictures and simple dialogue lead Birtle the non turtle to learning to love and accept his differences in crowd he doesn’t quite fit in. Great for young kids who may find themselves on the outskirts and need a reminder that’s it’s okay to just be themselves.

I received an electronic ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley.
No one in Turtletown will play tag with Tootie until she meets a new friend one day. Teeny is a bit different for a turtle but the two have many adventures together. By the end, they discover what type of animal Teeny really is and the adventures continue. The artwork is fun to study and simple enough for younger readers. This comic is geared for lower elementary level readers who are beginning to explore stories on their own.

This is a very sweet, charming, and wholesome graphic novel about friendship, acceptance, and belonging. A turtle and a bird become fast friends but begin to see differences between each other. They are both very accepting of each other, which creates a stronger bond between the two of them. It has great messaging without being preachy. It shows how to accept differences in a kind, compassionate way. There is also quite a bit of humor throughout the story. I found myself laughing out loud a few times because of their silly thoughts and conclusions about things.

The illustrations are beautiful and adorable. If you like the color purple, which I do (it’s my favorite color), then you’ll love this art style. It’s also a very easy, quick read. I read it in about 10 minutes, so if you need a palette cleanser that won’t take too much time, this is a great one to pick up.

I also think kids would really enjoy this graphic novel. It would be perfect for classrooms or libraries, or for parents to read at bedtime. Definitely recommend!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. These are my own thoughts and opinions.

This is the cutest book! Bird and Turtle make fast friends when Turtle has no one to play with. It shows how you can be friends with anyone, no matter what they look like. This would be a great bedtime story or to have in a classroom library.

"Birtle and the Purple Turtles" was an average read. The illustrations were cute but I felt the story dragged, not keeping my kids attention for very long. The message of the book felt a bit lost too, maybe as the book felt like a slower read? It was by no means a bad story, it only felt more average and I wanted it to stick out from the other children's books.
Thank you for providing me the opportunity to review "Birtle and the Purple Turtles” prior to publication. I am appreciative and leave my sincerity review voluntarily.

Who wouldn’t love a cute story about a bird and turtle best friend duo?
I love cute and entertaining kids stories that also have a bit of a positive message. It’s okay to be different, and having friends that are different than you can lead to amazing relationships.
I can’t wait to read this one to my kids.

Birth and the Purple Turtles by Tara J. Hannon

Children's Fiction - picture book

Oh man, what an adorable story. I am a little bias as I love turtles and purple is my favorite color, that was definitely what caught my attention. Birtle and the Purple Turtles is a fun read about friendship, acceptance, and being true to yourself. I love the friends that Tootie and Teeny have. The comic strip-style story is fun, I love the little details that brought the characters to life, and the valuable message this book sends.

For purple turtle, Tootie, all they ever want to do is play tag. But the other turtles don't want to. When she meets Teeny, a very strange-looking turtle, all her excitement to play tag and other games comes to fruition. Then, one day, Teeny starts sprouting feathers. Is Teeny really a turtle or something else? It's a hilarious graphic novel on friendship and becoming yourself. Even though Tootie and Teeny are different, their bond of many things, including tag, brings them closer than ever before. "Birtle and the Purple Turtles" celebrates the differences between each other and the friendship that grows.

Birtle and the Purple Turtles is so absolutely adorable, I really enjoyed reading this with my kids. All the T turtle names were so fun and watching Teeny realize that she was different and that was OK because she had her own special set of skills was wonderful.

Such a great little message and a fun read!

My review is based on the engagement of the kids I babysit who I read this to. They wanted a new book to read so we pulled this out and they loved it. I appreciate the dyslexia-friendly font, which is a great accessibility feature of this book and makes reading this book easier for kids. This is a delightful and heartwarming children's book that effortlessly conveys important messages of friendship, individuality, and celebrating differences. It was both entertaining and educational for my little readers, who didn't want this story to end.

One of the book's standout features is its ability to address these complex themes in a relatable and accessible manner. The narrative provides an excellent starting point for discussions with children about diversity, friendship, and the value of staying true to oneself. The use of turtle puns and wordplay (with all that "T" alliteration) adds a playful and humorous element to the story, making it engaging for young readers.

The cartoony art style will likely to resonate with children. The predominantly purple color scheme, complemented by Teeny's orange hue, adds visual appeal to the book and reinforces the theme of embracing differences.

Overall, "Birtle and the Purple Turtles" is a heartwarming and entertaining children's book that imparts valuable life lessons while keeping young readers engaged. It's a must-read for parents and educators looking to introduce important concepts of diversity and individuality in a fun and accessible way. This book serves as a reminder that being different is something to be celebrated and that true friendship knows no boundaries.

If you like slice of life kind of graphic novels meant for young readers, you will enjoy this one. The illustrations are good. However, there’s not much going on. The characters are vibrant and lively but I would love to read a graphic novel/comic book with a story.

If you are loony for a short and fun graphic novel to read with kids, just go for it.

Thank you, Andrews McMeel Publishing, for the advance reading copy.

Birtle and the Purple Turtles was a very cute and silly story that I feel young readers (6+) would enjoy. The story shared positive messages about friendship, differences, and being true to yourself. The topics addressed in this book could easily be used as a starting point for further discussions with children surrounding diversity, and how you don't need to look the same as your friends/family in order to have things in common. The turtle puns and tappies throughout always brought a little smirk to my face as I read. Art style was very cartoony, not my favourite style but I believe children will love it. The mostly purple colour scheme was a great way to compliment and contrast Teeny's orange hue

Tootie the turtle makes a new turtle friend, lovingly deemed Teeny. Soon, Teeny starts to look different than the other turtles and begins to struggle with being different. This is a heartwarming story about a turtle who accepts and loves his best friend’s differences, even when his friend can’t. I loved the use of alliteration and the illustrations!

The story of “Birtle” is absolutely adorable. An easy read of found family, friendship in unlikely places, and acceptance of differences. Its illustrations make it easy for all to follow along, even if the reading skills aren’t there yet. I thoroughly enjoyed the repetition of “T” throughout, the easy kid-like relationship between the two main characters, and the fun fast-paced comic style. Perfect for any young classroom or at-home read.

Foster and adoptive parents READ THIS WITH YOUR KIDS! This is a book about two best buddies who realize they aren’t exactly the same. The themes of this book leave a lot of open door for great conversations about joining a new family and being yourself in a family and about how families don’t have to match!

Dyslexia friendly font!! Which coupled with the comic strip style illustrating makes you feel like you’re moving quickly through the story and not as daunting to read.

This book is a great addition to any classroom or home library.

If your kid loves the “Good Egg” type of books and needs something more independent this is a perfect read!

My son loved this book! He thought it was funny and loved when it said “it’s a birtle”! It is a great cute story! Shows children it is okay to be different and still be friends with others who do not look like them!
