Following a near death experience, Nora and Dex decide to move out to the country. It turns out the lot that they purchase and build their dream home on has a past which is uncovered as the story goes on. I really struggled to put this book down once I started. It is an excellent mystery book which keeps you engrossed; I finished it in only a couple of sittings. The characters were very likable, particularly Nora & her sister (and Biddy!!!). I also loved the use of diary entries to help with uncovering the mystery of the lot, I thought that was very well done.
This is a good palate cleanser! The writing flowed well and the story was good. I have a couple eye roll moments back of the husband but overall a fun and enjoyable read.
A diamond in the rough thriller book. I think that the pacing was excellent, the writing was easily digestible, it was atompherically dark, and a page turned. Though I was able to guess a few of the twists it did not take away from my overall enjoyment of reading this book. I loved the multiple timelines and thought this was an overall solid thriller and would recommend it
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I enjoyed the spooky atmosphere and vibes, but I just feel like I wasn’t target audience for this books. I’m giving it 3 stars instead of rating it lower/DNFing it because I can definitely see there is an audience out there for this an and they’re going to eat it up.
The main character had a Tesla. That should’ve been my first hint to dnf it. A lot of other reasons came afterwards. But I carried on because I did want to know what happened.
Nora finds out she’s pregnant early on in the book but she only mentions it when it’s relevant? She knows she’s in a horror book but half the time she acts like she’s not. Scary things happen and I think she’ll mention the baby or try to get an appointment because these things are important in the first trimester? So I kept thinking that even though I’m not usually a fan of pregnancies in books. At the very least be consistent with mentioning it? The ghost makes her fall on the floor and hurt her ankle (or other things). I’m like the only one thinking about the baby! It’s like she’s going on rollercoasters and I’m there waving a sign that says “Think of the baby!”
I didn’t like any of the characters at all. Not even the pregnant character. The farm animals were probably the ones I liked the most. I wanted to figure out the mystery and the ghosts so I just forced myself to keep reading. I hoped it would get better – it did not.
There were too many short sentences and most of the time it didn’t fit the rest of the writing. There were two sentences that would’ve worked perfectly fine as one. I suppose the writing was a (tiny) bit atmospheric but it was all brought down by the sentences and my dislike of the characters.
The husband is your typical horror movie husband. “No sweetie you’re imagining it.” At least he didn’t say it was the pregnancy when she said “xx weird things happened”. He also said “oh you’re still tense from your assault” that happened a year ago. She’s had therapy and has coping mechanisms but that’s most certainly not the reassuring thing to SAY.
We had some old diary entries included from the family who lived there on the property in the 1950’s and I thought that writing was also odd. Two girls, 16/17 I think, the one’s diary’s entries was okay and the other just felt too modern?
The action and the climax was very weak. I’ve watched a ton of haunted houses and ghosts movies and it just all felt so lackluster.
It’s books like these that truly make me love this genre. I love sitting down and reading a book that makes me question EVERYTHING.
This book from the very first page actually gave me an American Horror Story: Roanoke vibe and I loved it.
I loved the use of diary entries to give us the answers and insight into the past to help solve the problems in the present. It was so much fun learning along with Nora what was happening. I admit I was way off with my assumptions on the killer but I am glad I was because it made reading the reveal more fun for me.
I found that too often when authors write a paranormal thriller they give too much away but Find Them left me guessing from the very last page.
This is an author I am definitely going to read more works from.
Thank you to NetGalley and Julia Ash for providing me with this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
From the description, I was hooked and knew this was aa story that would be worth reading. What I didn't expect however, was to be pulled into a lush, atmospheric, supernatural thriller that would have me gripping the edge of my seat absolutely captivated and mesmorized by the story unfolding before me. Great Read.
This book is one I will remember for a long time. It blew me away. Nora Davis lives and thrives in the hustle and bustle of the city- that is until a wild man pushes her onto the tracks of an oncoming train.
Nora & her husband Dex decide that moving to the country & buying a plot of land, Lot 16, to build and restart would be the best move. It was a perfect setting to forget the past, and move towards growing their family- but the past of Lot 16 has other plans.
Troubled spirits, a mystery covered up & lost to time, and a woman hell -bent on setting the truth & spirits free- Julia Ash does a wonderful job of grabbing your attention and taking you for a ride in Find Them.
Thank you to #NetGalley for the Arc of #FindThem
I can say that I was genuinely scared with this one. Not really fond of the writing, but still enjoyed this book!
It was intriguing and full of mystery.
Sometimes, I wasn’t understanding why the protagonist did some actions, but in the end it made sense.
So, I’m pleased with how it ended, even if it was less impactful than the whole book.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the e-book!
Parts of this book were really interesting but some parts would drag and lose me a little bit. I did really enjoy how everything came together in the end.
Nora and Dex are tired of living in the city. After Nora was assaulted at the train station, they decide it's time to start looking for a place in the country. Nora's sister is a real estate agent and was able to find them the perfect plot of land. But they soon find out that the land was never supposed to have been sold. Nora and Dex build their dream house on the property and it turns out that the land is haunted. They will need to discover the secrets the land holds or die trying,
Firstly thank you NetGalley for approving this title for me. Being the first time reading a book by Julia Ash I was very surprised how much I enjoyed this book. It kept me intrigued the whole time. Find Them is a hauntingly themed mystery. Julia keeps us guessing the whole time what was going to happen around every corner. Nora and Dex were, dare we to say, city hipsters when a traumatic event pushes them to get away from the city. They find a rural farm in the hills, one with a deeper history than they could ever imagine. One tragedy after the next kept happening to them at the farm. Nora felt things were off when finally a ghost appears. Nora fights for her family and to get to the bottom of the ghost's story and wants. Nothing can prepare them for what transcends on their "slice of heaven". Nothing is what you would expect.....
Very atmospheric, supernatural mystery. Good characters. Loved the writing style. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
I had such a hard time putting this book down! I was constantly trying to figure out where it would lead me next, and trying to decipher any hints that the author may have dropped along the way. I really didn’t expect any of the twists, and thought they all played a big role in making the book even more enticing! Overall, this book exceeded the expectations that I had prior to reading it.
very twisty spooky story - did not know where it was going to lead. great twists and turns all the way through out the book. i had it read in a day - very eerie - highly recommended.
This well written ghost story pulled me into the story from the beginning
My only complaint was the overused comparison of men to Mars.
The ghosts were well developed characters, enhancing the characterization of Nora.
Set in Pennsylvania, Lot 16 made for a descriptive location.
Nora sets out to research the property that she and her husband have bought after she encounters hauntings related to a decades old disappearance.

It’s an atmospheric supernatural cozy mystery set in the mountains of the Poconos, with a dash of horror and a few chickens tossed in. What’s not to like?
The story follows Nora Davis, who builds her dream home with her husband in beautiful rural Pennsylvania, hoping to regroup and start a family after a vicious attack that almost took her life. Instead, she finds herself dealing with an increasingly dangerous haunting as she tries to solve the mystery surrounding her land and the disappearance of a young girl.
I loved the setting of this book—I’m actually familiar with the area—and the author’s descriptions created a great atmosphere. I’m not a fan of true horror, but this story had just enough for suspense and to make me a little paranoid about sounds in the house. The parts with the flies though…I may never look at flies the same way again! I could see this being made into a scary movie.
The story kept my interest with short chapters and great pacing. I liked the mystery, which had a couple twists, but I had the truth pegged fairly early on. My one criticism would be that things fell together a little too neatly for Nora to solve the mystery. She was extremely lucky that so much was written for her.
I also liked how Nora developed and came into her own by the end of the book.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who loves ghost stories and mysteries.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing the e-book in exchange for an honest review and to the author, Julia Ash, for an enjoyable read (and new fear of flies).
Writing: 5/5
Characters: 5/5
Plot: 4/5
Scary: 2/5
Enjoyment: 4/5
Find Them is about a husband and wife that move to a rural Pennsylvania on land that was never supposed to be developed. I really liked the spooky atmosphere and the mystery behind the land. I would have been okay if the book was a little longer and if it went more into the lore behind everything that happens. The writing was done well and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another book by this author.
I received an arc and am leaving an honest review.
If you’re looking for an enjoyable ghost story, this book doesn’t disappoint. I loved the author’s description of the setting, it was a perfect. House on a hill, overlooking a lake, lots of fog and howling wind. Read it in bed or cuddled up on a dreary day. Looking forward to reading another of her books.
This spooky, atmospheric tale is perfect reading for October! This one was all about the setting for me, it really capitalized on the potential creepiness of a rural home outside of a very small town. There were some genuine scares in here courtesy of a very vividly rendered haunting and a suitably frightening ghost. The reasons the MCs could not leave were believable too in a genre that can have you like, bro just go somewhere else please - and there was frankly some satisfaction in watching these sometimes obnoxious rich people get knocked down a peg once their paychecks were suspended or in danger. Love to see a person have to sell their Tesla.
Minor complaints: the narrator used some ridiculous and wince-inducing slang that did not help with her level of likability which was sometimes already on thin ice. It strained believability that so many characters kept detailed diaries, but fine - however, a secret confession letter was a silly step too far. I would have liked the initial subway encounter to have had a little more resolution rather than that it was just some crazy guy after all. Although I liked the throughline of the MC learning to take action in the moment, it was a little depressing that the final lesson was that she just had to be on guard and alert for the rest of her life, never allowed to relax.
My thanks to IPBA and NetGalley for the ARC. I would like to note to the publisher that, although I'm glad I read this book, I do not read on my phone or on a tablet, and the tiny text of the PDF file on offer made the reading experience unpleasant on my Kindle. This is ultimately an accessibility issue and actively excludes readers who require a format that allows text size increases. In the future I will unfortunately have to simply pass by ARCs like this that fail to offer the standard Kindle option.
I really enjoyed this ghost story/ thriller! A near death experience means that our protagonist and her husband decide to move out to the countryside. Their plot is gorgeous and the property they build is their dream but something is wrong…
I found this such a compelling read, some parts sent shivers down my spine and I loved the gradual unravelling of the mystery of why Plot 16 could never be sold.
