The Spy and I was a fun read. It reminded me of a young adult version of Mr. And Mrs. Smith and The Spy Who Dumped Me. This plot is action-packed, as the story begins with Dove doing a penetration tester job. She then meets a journalist, Mendez, who turns out to be a hot CIA agent. She learns from him that her sister is also a CIA agent who is in danger. It was easy to get immersed in the book as the action and suspense were high the entire time. The sexual tension between Dove and Mendez was evident, and I loved their banter. I felt for Mendez because it was easy to tell he liked Dove, but his job hindered his ability to start something new with her initially. I love the way the book ended. I also appreciated that the author incorporated her technology knowledge Into the book. The hacking and the technology aspect was a fun extra touch.

Thank you to NetGallery and Berkley Publishing for giving me a copy of the book.

I could not put this book down! Dove, our main character, is a civilian who gets mistaken for her spy sister and is thrust into a world of deceptions, danger, and a very attractive and mysterious man who claims to be her sister's partner. The Spy and I is full of twists at every turn, and while there is action aplenty, it still keeps the feel of a contemporary romance. I can't wait to recommend this book when it comes out!

I could not finish this book. The writing was clunky and cheesy and it really turned me off to the whole book. It also started off on a sour note for me. The first two paragraphs were in present tense and then everything abruptly changed to past tense with no warning or explanation.

I also hated the detailed tech speak while Dove was hacking into things. It went completely over my head and added absolutely nothing to the story. I was so frustrated by the stylistic choices of this book that I couldn't even get into the plot.

We start off at a fast pace with a smart female cyber-security protagonist. It’s a recipe for a win. Easy to read and easy to follow. I stopped after chapter 2 (9%), but easy four stars if it continues this way.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC.

something that has been missing from the romance world is a cute but action packed romcom and i was so excited to be gifted this ARC from berkley in exchange for an honest review! the story was original and started off with a fast-pace that instantly hooked you. definitely gives more of a YA romcom vibe (no spice) but still a quick read that’s worth it!!
