"My Asian Kitchen" by Jennifer Joyce is an absolute culinary treasure that deserves every bit of its five-star rating. This cookbook is a delightful journey into the world of classic Asian dishes, offering a fusion of tradition and modernity, and an exploration of diverse flavors.

Joyce has organized the recipes in a unique and practical way, grouping them by the style of dish rather than by country. This approach allowed me to easily discover and experiment with a wide range of Asian culinary traditions, from spicy stir-fries to comforting soups, from bao and dumplings to healthy salads, and even Asian-inspired desserts.

One of the standout features of "My Asian Kitchen" is its accessibility. The recipes are simplified without sacrificing flavor, making them approachable for cooks of all skill levels. Joyce also includes shortcuts where appropriate, ensuring that the joy of Asian cooking can be enjoyed by everyone.

Throughout the book, you'll find a handful of helpful drawings and guides that demystify challenging techniques, such as folding dumplings or achieving the perfect grill. This thoughtful inclusion makes the cookbook not just a collection of recipes but also a valuable learning resource for aspiring home cooks.

The variety of dishes covered in the book is impressive, and each recipe is a testament to Joyce's culinary expertise and passion for Asian cuisine. From Spicy Tamarind Shrimp to Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, and from Braised Pork Belly with Spring Onions Bao to Devil's Food Cake with Matcha Icing, every page bursts with mouthwatering possibilities.

In summary, "My Asian Kitchen" is a culinary adventure that celebrates the rich and diverse flavors of modern Asian cooking. Jennifer Joyce's expertise shines through in every recipe, making this book a must-have for anyone who wants to explore, create, and savor the delights of Asian cuisine. It's a five-star masterpiece that will undoubtedly become a beloved addition to any kitchen.

*This cookbook introduces the reader to Asian cuisine across a spectrum by someone who travelled Asian but did not grow up there. The recipes cover a wide spectrum of dishes from appetizer to dessert and could be used to create a complete entertaining menu.

*What I liked best about the book is that in most sections the author provides a sketch of how to create certain dishes. These pages are useful for understanding visually how the items are created.

*What I didn’t like was that the author in several parts of the book talks about how bad the local Asian restaurants were. There is an understanding that we are in a more global economy where even Chinese food is not a singular ter. (Many different provinces are represented now.) However while the restaurants of her youth might not have been as good as her own cooking, one mention would have been enough and even then seemed a little mean. Looking past this slight, I’d say that this recipe book looks promising in terms of the recipes.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me this eArc to review.

This book had a huge collection of Asian recipes from starters to desserts and a lot of them had photos of the finished recipe. Even as a picky eater there were options for me to cook and eat.

I see a bit of a theme here today - another book that looks like a reissue of a previously published book from 2018. At least this one I haven't seen before but still disappointing that it's a book that is already out there.

My Asian Kitchen has over 110 recipes from Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.

This book is divided into 8 chapters after the Introduction to the author:
- starters & snacks (25)
- boiled & bubbling (16)
- crisp & tossed (13)
- dumplings & buns (9)
- skewers & grills (14)
- hot pots & curries (13)
- into the wok (15)
- frozen & fluffy (11)

Each recipe has the number it serves, prep and cooking times, ingredients in both metric and imperial, and steps to follow. The photographs that accompany some of the recipes are wonderful. Most chapters include one or more infomatics on various techniques, such as how to fill a wonton or how to buy and use tofu.

I'd certainly give quite a few of the recipes a go as we do like Asian food in our household.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I love Asian foods and I love cooking. However, I also like simple cooking with great results that suggests more complexity than it actually is. This book offers exactly that. Inspired by recent trips to Singapore and South Korea, I couldn’t wait to get stuck in, but where to start? There are so many inspiring dishes to choose from, all with stunning photos; my mouth began to water as soon as I turned the first page; it honestly did. I particularly love the little visuals that are peppered throughout the book, showing the cook very clearly how to roll up a gyoza or how to use a wok etc. A lovely point of difference.

This is a mouth-wateringly great book to inspire and delight anyone who loves Asian foods.

Many thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this ARC for which I have given my voluntary and unbiased review

My husband LOVED Asian cuisine, and I don’t have the taste for it. So this is a perfect guide for me to make him delicious meals. I’m so excited to have this recipe book on hand when I want to have a special night in for him on birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

There are a lot of recipes in this book. They aren’t too crazy on the amount and types of ingredients either. I love that the majority of the recipes have photos of the food included. There are also some direction graphics pages telling how to wrap things like egg rolls, etc. I’ll definitely be saving this book for trying some things.

There are dozens of Asian cookbooks out there. Most are full of popular dishes that everyone has heard of. Anyone looking for a good Asian cookbook with new or innovative dishes that are appealing, will want to pick up My Asian Kitchen: Noodles, Dumplings, Salad, Sushi, Wok, Baoby Jennifer Joyce, which includes dozens of recipes that aren’t the same-old same-old that everyone is familiar with. Joyce has an imagination, and has used it to create new innovative Asian dishes that are very appealing.

The recipes are gathered from several Asian countries: Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, and others. The chapters are a bit different, such as Starters and Snacks, Boiled & Bubbling, Crisp & Tossed, Dumplings & Buns, Skewers & Grills, Hot Pots & Curries, Into the Wok, and Frozen & Fluffy, which is a lot more fun than standard cookbook chapters. However, the recipes are written in the traditional manner with ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions. The author has also added comments at the beginning of each recipe which are helpful.

The one drawback to this cookbook is that there isn’t a photograph of each recipe. The photographs that are included are professional and beautiful, but there aren’t enough. That isn’t a no-go to owing this cookbook, because there are great recipes and plenty of great ideas for cooking Asian at home.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

This cookbook has all my favorite features, it has lots of delicious looking recipes, clear instructions and beautiful pictures for every recipe!

I saved several recipes:
Tuna sashimi with avocado and citrus dressing
Beef takaki with garlic chips
Korean cucumber pickles
Thai fried egg salad
Spicy tuna poke
Korean grill steak tacos
Several Bao bun based recipes
I could go on.

The recipes also had instructions that felt clear and reasonably easy. I don’t think I noticed a recipe with instructions longer than a page.

I look forward to trying these recipes!
