My Asian Kitchen is an amazing collection of recipes from all over Asia. There are Starters and Snacks, Boiled & Bubbling, Crisp & Tossed, Dumplings & Buns, Skewers & Grills, Hot Pots & Curries, Into the Wok, and Frozen & Fluffy. So much variety here!
The recipes are flavorful, and include a little bit about the cultural side of the meal. There are also notes and tips for most recipes. The pictures are mouthwatering! If you like authentic Asian food, this is a must for your kitchen!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!

Note: current edition is not on Goodreads.
Create and savour the classic Asian dishes you know and love, discover new favourites, and have fun with modern takes full of Asian flavour.
Encompassing the food traditions of Japan, China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Korea, and Malaysia, My Asian Kitchen equips you with the cooking knowledge you need to push your understanding of flavours and master your favourite dishes at home. Instead of grouping recipes by country, author Jennifer Joyce has arranged them by style of dish:
- Spicy stir-fries from the wok, including Spicy Tamarind Shrimp and Thai Chicken with Cashews and Chili Jam Sauce
- Comforting soups, including Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup and Kimchi and Tofu Soup
- Bao, dumplings, and wontons, including Braised Pork Belly with Spring Onions and Crushed Peanuts Bao, Chicken and Shiitake Gyoza with Miso Lemon Dipping Sauce, and Thai Shumai Dumplings
- Healthy salads such as Crispy Spiced Tofu Veggie Bowl with Ponzu Dressing and Apple Salad with Miso Maple Dressing
- Asian-inspired desserts, including Devil’s Food Cake with Matcha Icing and Chili Chocolate Nut Bark with Coconut
And more!
Recipes are simplified, with shortcuts where appropriate, but not at the expense of sacrificing flavor. There are even drawings and guides throughout the book to help you tackle difficult tasks such as folding your own dumplings, achieving the perfect grill technique, or personalizing your ramen and donabe hot pots.
From Grilled Eggplant with Sweet Soy and Lime Dressing and Pork Skewers with Palm Sugar Glaze and Jaew to Adobo Chicken and Miso-Glazed Ribs, My Asian Kitchen is an adventure in the dazzling diversity of modern Asian cooking.
This book, an update from her 2018 book, is a gem if you love cooking your own Asian food, vs. getting it delivered. I don’t like dumplings, in general, but the rest of the book was full of food that I would make over and over…hubby only likes AMERICANIZED Chinese food so he would not eat from here without poking and prodding (and having also made spaghetti and meatballs for when he said NO!). Great recipes, bordering from healthy to sinful, will make your meals sing!

This book has so many great recipes in it! The pictures are beautiful and the instructions are easy to follow. I can't wait to make all of my favorites for my family!
Thank you to NetGalley and Jennifer Joyce and an ARC!
I love asian fusion cooking, and I like a lot about this book: But the way it is presented gave me the impression that the individual who wrote it was of Asian Lineage. It feels very strongly appropriative that it is a white woman who is using very typical asian block font, and that it is called "My Asian Kitchen". You are not Asian, therefore your kitchen is not Asian.
This is the definition of appropriation for profit. And I could not stand by and not say something.
Thank you for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. This is an excellent cookbook. The photos are amazing, and it's very well explained. I like that the recipes have dipping/accompanying sauces with them
Traditional dishes given a modern twist. Clear recipes and beautifully photographed.
I like the categorization: stir fries, soups, salads etc as opposed to by country.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
I loooove the Asian kitchen so much!
I’ve already done 2 of the recipes and it’s delicious and so easy!
Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Chartwell Books for giving me this ARC!!
My Asian Kitchen provides many easy-to-follow Asian fusion recipes. The recipes themselves could be made slightly clearer than the block of text that they tend to be presented in. I also think there are some potential issues with a white American putting out a cookbook called My Asian Kitchen. Furthermore, the Asian recipes presented only cover a small portion of those on the continent. If you are looking for an introduction to Asian cooking, this might be for you, but as someone who has spent a lot of time in South East Asia, the cookbook left some things to be desired.
"My Asian Kitchen" by Jennifer Joyce offers an aesthetically pleasing culinary journey with its beautiful design and captivating photographs. The book's visual appeal is undoubtedly one of its strong suits, immersing readers in a world of flavors and ingredients. The recipes provided are presented in a clear and straightforward manner, making them accessible to cooks of various skill levels.
While the title might raise some eyebrows due to the author's non-Asian background, the book's core message of embracing diverse cuisines and cultures is a commendable one. Cooking and enjoying meals from different parts of the world is a wonderful way to celebrate our global interconnectedness. Jennifer Joyce's effort to create accessible and easy-to-follow recipes contributes to this sentiment.
In the end, "My Asian Kitchen" offers more than just recipes; it encourages readers to expand their culinary horizons and embrace the beauty of cultural diversity through food. The title's intention is a reminder that while the author's heritage may not be Asian, the joy of cooking and eating delicious meals transcends cultural boundaries.
So many of my favorite foods all in one place. There are beautiful pictures and easy to follow recipes with ingredients easily found in most grocery stores. A lot of the traditional recipes have been given a new world twist, creating a mouthwatering fusion creation. Cooking with tofu isn’t easy so I was thankful for the instructions on best practices for dealing with it. I was happy to see that the chicken adobo recipe was mostly left alone unlike the current trend to change everything that makes it good. A good gateway into Asian cooking.
I'm so excited to jump into this one and see what it's all about. I love cooking with my husband and we're always eager to incorporate new cuisines into our palette.
