Such a gem of a book. Some of the recipes are so easy and some with a twist. Can't wait to get started on trying these.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing for the ARC
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a nice book! It has a variety of plant-based recipes. There are nice pictures that show you what the food should look like. The book uses vegan cheese and other plant-based alternatives so it's not a cheese or dairy free recipe book but rather one that uses vegan dairy and other replacements so you get all the flavors. Some recipes are more time intensive, but overall a nice find!
With 140 recipes for delicious non-dairy milks, basic pastries, warming soups and mains, salads, pasta, rice, noodles, and sweet things, Easy Vegan has your vegan options covered.

An easy to follow vegan cookbook that would be great for new vegans as well as seasoned. A lot of information about veganism, protein comparisons and delicious looking recipes. All the recipes are easy to follow with healthy ingredients.
This is a must read for vegans!
I think this recipe had some novel ideas I want to try, like the butte bean dip, it also had a lot of interesting soup recipes. Unfortunately, a lot require quite hard to get ingredients or involve a fair bit of work. I did like that it always had picture of the finished product. I look forward to trying some of the recipes,
This is nicely presented and has a large variety of recipes. It is very easy to get into and I can see this as something useful for those who want to explore removing animal products (meats, dairy, eggs, honey). That said, I can't say that this is a healthy vegan book since it includes a LOT of oils and sugars, refined products, fried foods, coconut oil, etc. So if you are trying to lose weight or are concerned about health issues, this might be problematic.
The book breaks down as follows: Introduction, how to vegan, protein content, vegan celebrities, shopping list, how to organize a recipe. Basics. Brunch, starters and light bites, soups and cold salads, warm salads and sides, pasta, rice and noodles, warming mains, sweet things, menu planner, index. Sample recipes include: buckwheat and blueberry pancakes, French toast with maple syrup and powdered sugar, mushroom pate, crispy polenta bites, deep fried vegetable fritters, roast garlic soup, lentil and cranberry salad, saffron roasted tomatoes, risotto primavera, roast spiced pumpkin, eggplant parmigiana, carrot cake, orange and olive syrup cake, and many more.
Each recipe takes up a full page. There is a large title, a sentence or two introduction, serving size, preparation time, cooking time. Ingredients are in bold and the steps are unnumbered paragraph form (many of the paragraphs can be quite thick and hard to get through in chunks). There is no nutrition information. Each recipe includes a large full color photograph.
As noted, this is not a health conscious set of recipes. You will use a LOT of processed ingredients such as various vegan-version cheeses, a lot of oils (including very unhealthy coconut oil), and a lot of sugars. None of the sugars or flours are wholegrain so this book would be very problematic to diabetics. And because recipes can be deep fried and full of simple carbohydrates without fiber, the recipes are not good for those trying to lose or maintain weight.
The author presents several ways to substitute the animal products you use: how to make your own vegan butter, milk, pastry, pasta, mayonnaise, etc. In that way, I thought this is a great introductory cookbook for the vegan-curious: a way to get the tastes you are used to but without harming animals in the process.
The recipes themselves were surprisingly underwhelming. As photographed, most looked like someone was eating tiny portion sizes: tiny bowls or dishes with only a few items on them (a pasta with maybe 10 ziti? An herbed tomato recipe with 5 thin slices?). I kept looking for something substantial and hearty but didn't find it here. Most of the recipes felt like small side dishes or something that someone would choose if they mistakenly believed that small portion sizes meant weight loss.
In all, as a new vegan/plant based eater myself (about a year in now), I felt there wasn't enough for me here. I have much better cookbooks with healthier fare and heartier foods. I didn't find the recipes all that easy, either, with chunky steps that were annoying to go through while cooking. Certainly, many recipes made me shudder reading the sheer amounts of white sugars, white flours, and even 3-4 cups worth of oils. It just feels like a wasted opportunity to go vegan and still eat very unhealthily. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
If this book would have existed back in the good old days when I became a vegan, it would have made my life so much easier! This is a must-read for all new vegans, vegans-to-be, but I would also highly recommend it to us seasoned veterans, because it has so many of the basic recipes everyone needs in life, and it is not easy to find those in a compact way like this book. Highly recommended!
As someone who isn’t vegan, but bakes and cooks a lot for friends, this is an incredible resource to have on hand for dinner parties. I am so excited to try these yummy looking recipes and entertain my friends!
Vegan!!!!! I love a good vegan burger and the recipes that are provided In this book are mouth watering! Absolutely loved adding these into our weekly meal prep for the week!
Easy Vegan
My doctor leads a plant based lifestyle and has a compelling case to try more vegan recipes. I have always felt a bit overwhelmed with the idea so when I saw this title, I knew I had to read it!
I really liked the infographic that compared a serving of beef to vegan options and the suggestions for foods with vitamins and iron!
The recipes in this book sound delicious, I am really excited to make the tofu bahn mi and veggie burgers! I was also surprised to see creme brulee!! The photos in this recipe book are also great!
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group- Chartwell books for the digital advanced readers copy!! I received a complimentary copy of this cookbook. This cookbook will be published November 14, 2023!
I like the comparisons of proteins at the beginning of the book. I would have liked to see bioavailability of that protein, but I also think that may be a little complex for the average reader. As someone looking for nutrition though, to see that one thing may have less grams of protein per serving but be more bioavailable would be helpful. I really liked that it compared the protein amounts to a food that was commonly what people think of when they picture protein. That said, it really bothered me that the sirloin steak and the yeast were swapped when the rest of them were in descending order. The chart on how to veganize a recipe was also very helpful. Starting out with the basics also allowed for having a place that could be quickly referenced in the future to find the substitutions, such as for butter or milk.
The recipes were a nice mix of things. The Macha smoothie especially was something I’ll have to try again. It was a nice, quick go to breakfast in the morning. I was super excited for the French Onion soup, as that has always been something I missed. I also appreciated the range of recipes. Some were easy, and great options for beginners or when you don’t feel like cooking a lot. Others were more advanced and would be great for family dinners. I am also glad there was not a lot of tofu recipes. Sometimes, it feels like everything has tofu and I am not a fan of the texture. So having recipes that rely more on vegetables was a big plus. The meal planner at the end was also really helpful.
One downside, the author seems to have a book with the same title from 2014. This is what came up on Goodreads when I tried to find it. I am not sure if this is a new edition with new recipes or a reprint with updated recipes.
As a vegan myself, I found this book to be really clear and easy to follow. I found the substitution Charts really useful, but the vegan Cellebraties page was a bit redundant. Nice recipes with good photos as well.
As someone who tries to lower their meat intake, this is a good book. Full of tasty looking plant-based recipes that I can't wait to try!
Many thanks to Sue Quinn, NetGalley, and Chartwell Books for this copy.
A good Vegan cookbook with plenty of original ideas. Lovely coloured photos of each recipe to tempt the reader to have a go. Easy to follow without lots of 'weird' hard to get ingredients. I shall certainly be trying a few out in the coming weeks with having a niece, who is vegan, coming to stay.
I never entirely embrace vegan cookbooks that aren’t written by vegans. It just seems odd. Quinn is an experienced cookbook author but not a vegan. The book is Australian and US readers may occasionally be confused by terminology and ingredients. It starts with a basic rundown of veganism with a graphic of famous vegans. Most of these are no longer vegan, so it’s not a great selling point. There is the classic talk of how much protein is in various vegan foods and then instructions on how to substitute for some vegan ingredients.
From there, there are chapters of breakfast, soups, main dishes, desserts, etc. There is a photo for every recipe. No nutritional information is provided. The dishes rely heavily on wheat so this is not a cookbook that will work well for gluten free folks. Soy is used somewhat. Most of the ingredients are whole foods but it relies heavily on gums and emulsifiers which have been implicated in a lot of health issues and gastrointestinal issues lately. The dishes also tend to be very high in carbs, which can be a bigger issue as we age and we can handle fewer carbs and need more protein and healthy fats.
Still, if you are new to veganism and want a variety of fairly healthy recipes, this will be a good resource.
I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.
I've been plant-based for the majority of my life, but Vegan for about 1.5 years. I would have loved this book at the beginning of my Vegan journey especially! I like the section about nutrition sources, it's a good reminder for me and probably addresses common concerns right off the bat. The photos are wonderful and the recipes are not intimidating or complex. I love the amount of sweet things included too.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This is a plant based book perfect for beginner vegans and those wanting to incorporate plant based meals in their diet . The book contains dairy free milk recipes, salads, rice and noodles. The book has a meal plan, easy instructions and has yummy recipes.
I found that this one has some great recipes to try to help with eating less meat.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
I have been trying to reduce the amount of meat I eat, and coming up with substitutions and recipes wasn’t always easy. Some recipes only make it very difficult and overwhelming. But I didn’t feel this way with the book.
Easy Vegan is packed with easy-to-follow recipes that can help anyone make the change, or just to introduce more vegan food in their diets.
I’m specially grateful for the information given at the beginning, about portions and food substitutions. I think it’s very valuable information that it isn’t always given. It made me feel more confident about eating the right amount of protein I need, after removing meat from my diet.
I think this book not only gives 100+ recipes to try, but also a bit of knowledge and understanding on the vegan diet.
Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
I'm not vegan but always looking for new ways to limit meat consumption. There are quite a few recipes I'd try in there. If you're trying to eat less meat or if you're vegan, I would totally recommend this book.
A good range of recipes, definitely trying plenty of them. But this is particularly good for its tips on building vegan meals and making the basics, helping veganism be more accessible for those trying it. Recommend.
