The Liars Society was a great surprise. It has some interesting turns and definitely kept me engaged.
I found it difficult to put down and read it in one day. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Absolutely loved this book! Alyson Gerber creates the kind of upper-class boarding school we all wanted to go to as kids, but then pulls back the veil on the problems that kind of school incubates (class tensions, money problems, legacy students v. scholarship students, etc,) without ever feeling preachy. Everyone feels out of place and I honestly wanted to give each character a huge hug. The inclusion of the sailing team was so fun, and I loved learning more about sailing. But mostly, I'm sucker for a secret society. I can't wait to see what comes next for these kids!
4.5 stars!
My daughter (age 9) and I enjoyed this novel, based on a girl (Weatherby) who was accepted into an elite private school in Boston that her father attended. She initially struggles to fit in with some of the students, including Jack, whose father is the headmaster of the school. However, Weatherby and Jack believe that they have been selected to join a secret society, so they must embark on a quest to determine whether they are worthy of being members. Although lengthy for a children's novel, the adventures in the book made for a fun, fast-paced read that is sure to keep middle-grade readers engrossed!
Even if sailing isn't a passion of mine, and this book is highly centered on it, I have devoured The Liars Society and I genuinely can't wait to read the sequel,
Ultimately, you can't help but love the characters, all of them. The story is intriguing, and the message in it is compelling; friendship, family, trust, and doing the right thing.
I loved every single page!
I have enjoyed all of Alyson Gerber’s books. This one is my favorite though. I am excited for this series and cannot wait for the story to continue. I can’t wait to introduce this book to students. .
The Inheritance Games and One of Us is Lying for middle grade -- beloved author Alyson Gerber's new series is an unforgettable mystery featuring a secret society, a mysterious island, and dangerous family secrets
This was so good! I really enjoyed it and look forward to further installments.
I was so excited to read The Liars Society and it did not disappoint! This book is the first in an incredible new series by Alyson Gerber, introducing Weatherby and Jack and the mysteries surrounding their connection to the Hunt family, the Boston School, and the Last Heirs. Middle grade readers will devour this page-turning, heart-pounding adventure with twists and turns around every corner. Can't wait for the next book!
So...I definitely understand what this was aiming for. I've read One Of Us is Lying and I loved Inheritance Games, so I was pumped to see those two blend. However, this felt wooden/choppy/and meh most of the time. I just wasn't vibing.
