Over a year ago Lainie Jackson's fiance' tried to kill her. Lainie knows that that night he died. Now Lainie and others are seeing him! And it seems he is bent on finishing what he started!

James Cross has come back to his hometown and is working with the local police department. When he gets shot Lainie is the one to help him when he gets to the hospital. Lainie has always had a crush on James. Being the brother of one of her best friends nothing ever came of that crush. But now James is determined to protect Lainie from whoever is trying to kill her.

Seriously, from the first page Double Take grabs you and throws you into a suspense that literally makes you want to keep reading until the end. I didn't want to put it down, it had me from the get-go. I loved both James and Lainie. I love their struggle with their faith that keeps them hanging on to the Lord even though both of their family lives seem to be gripped with issues. James and his father have been estranged for years and Lainie's parents have their issues that keep her tied up in knots. But both of them help each other to strengthen their faith even though they struggle in those relationships. The suspense was excellent and as I've already said it kept me turning the pages to find out exactly what was going on! I can't wait for the next book in this new series because I am definitely a fan of book one!

A quiet place is needed before starting, this amazing story to read,
How could this happen, one minute loving, and now saying death would have been
easy if evening ritual had been followed. .
She was being controlled by a fiancé, family, escaping death but not the trauma.
This story will keep. you on the edge thru the whole book. .
It has twist and surprises, the author is a master as how this story unfolds.
Given arc by Net Galley and Revell for my voluntary review

"Double Take" is a romantic suspense. Lainie feels like a victim and a door mat. Her family's a mess, with her mother having a mental illness and her siblings wanting nothing to do with their parents. She wanted a normal family so badly that she initially overlooked how her fiancé started to treat her. When she dumped him, he tried to kill her. She's finally recovering from that trauma when she suddenly sees Adam again. She's certain it must be someone who looks like him, only, every trace of his death is being erased. Why? Who is this man, or is it possible Adam actually survived?

James' father refused to talk with him after James became a police officer, so he had his own family problems to work through. He and his partner investigated Lainie's case while keeping her safe. The high suspense came from the deadly danger to Lainie. The main characters were capable, likable people who reacted realistically to events. James built Lainie up and showed her that she's a fighter, not a victim. They worked well together. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting story.

I honestly wasn’t expecting a lot out of this story when I first started it but ended up enjoying it.
There is a twist I should have suspected but didn’t!
In the letter to readers from author, Lynette Eason She starts with
Dear fabulous readers,
She tells us that she got this idea three years ago but it wasn’t working – she just wasn’t getting it to make sense on paper. When it was time to submit it or another proposal to the publisher she knew she wanted this to be the first in the series. She brainstormed with friends and rewrote and finally “Double Take” was born. Now she is well into the next one which will be Cole Garrison and Kenzie King’s story. “Target Acquired”. In fact she gives us the first chapter as a teaser.
. Yep I am putting it on TBR list!!!

Want to thank NetGalley and Revelle for this early uncorrected proof.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for January 9, 2024.

A very suspenseful story that kept me on the edge of my seat! I love that it's a different sort of story, and that it keeps you guessing!! I also love the 2 main characters. It's always nice to me when there's a nice support group of friends so that the main character can feel a bit safer in the scary times!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance e-copy of this book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own

This was an amazing book! I was captivated right off the bat and could hardly put it down! It kind of freaked me out, to be honest, but it was worth it! Lynette Eason is a genius!

I thought I had something pegged really early, and while that exact speculation was incorrect, I did get a general part correct. I kind of got lucky though, I guess. But the real revelation I did NOT see coming. It was totally a surprise and I kind of loved it :)

After what she's been through, Lainie has a LOT of baggage, which makes sense. I would be the same way. I liked how Eason showed the legitimacy of that trauma while still pushing her character to grow and not be controlled by the past. Lainie has to learn that caution is okay but fear isn't and that one terrible human doesn't speak for all the rest. She also has to learn how to be loved, love well, and establish boundaries. In these ways I connected to her because I am learning those things too.

This is about as "thriller" as I like to get, I think, but it was fabulous and I'm super excited to see where this series goes from here. Also, I love when authors put their friend's books in their own books :)

Really enjoyed this story by Lynette Eason. I love the twists and turns of it, the author placing seeds of doubt in various places to keep you from being a 100% sure until the ending. I also liked the family issues and personal struggles mentioned in the book and the way that they came into the story - they made the characters seem more multi-layered and real.

As this is the first in a new series, I'm looking forward to the upcoming next books. This book sets the ground work for them - I personally enjoy stories' that link to other characters in the same universe. Definitely a book I'll recommend on.

I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat! I wanted to keep screaming at Lainie to be careful! I loved the way both Lainie and James had different traumas in their past but kept pushing forward. James was a sweet character and enjoyed how he tried to help Lainie as much as possible.

Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

Lynette Eason's "Double Take" is a Christian romantic suspense novel that packs a powerful punch of action, tension, and emotional depth.

Beyond the suspense, "Double Take" delves into crucial themes of learning to trust again and establishing healthy boundaries, especially when faced with complex family dynamics. The characters, James and Lainie, not only grapple with external threats but also confront their inner demons. James, a former military detective, and Lainie, a civilian physician assistant, both wrestle with PTSD, adding depth to the story and shedding light on the challenges they face. Lainie's long-held feelings for her best friend's brother, James, introduce a layer of complexity to their relationship. (Secret crush romance trope enthusiasts rejoice!). Witnessing these two broken individuals find healing and love adds emotional depth to the story.

Nevertheless, "Double Take" has its flaws. While the suspense is skillfully maintained, the identity of the villain remains concealed for a significant portion of the book. Readers might find that crucial clues are revealed only late in the story, leaving them yearning for more insight into the antagonist's motives and identity. Despite this, the book's overall appeal remains intact.

In conclusion, "Double Take" by Lynette Eason is a gripping Christian romantic suspense novel that will captivate fans of the genre. With its action-packed narrative, high-stakes tension, and exploration of trust, boundaries, and healing, it offers a well-rounded reading experience. Ideal for readers who enjoy the works of authors like Elizabeth Goddard, Lisa Harris, or Patricia Bradley, this book offers a captivating blend of suspense and romance, leaving you eagerly anticipating the next thrilling installment.

This is a read that will keep you holding your breath, page turning for answers and ducking from bullets!

Yes, Lynette Eason has done it again, a story that you will need answers, and thus page turning, but also a story that linger, some very eveil people out there.

From the beginning to the end, you are questioning, and then the complicit people that you don't suspect!

You'll be questioning the body in the grave? Being forced off cliffs, to seeing the deceased!

Now I can't wait for the next book in this new series!

This book was so exciting that I read it in one night! I just couldn't put it down! No one does suspense like Lynette Eason. In her newest novel, Double Take, the author takes you on a roller coaster ride filled with danger, twists and turns, light romance, and light Christianity.

The story centers on Lainie Jackson, a young physicians assistant who survived an attack from a murderous fiance eighteen months ago. Unfortunately, she shot and killed the man knowing that if she didn't, he would have killed her. Lainie vows to herself she will never be a victim again. When her best friend's brother walks back into her life, she is hesitant to trust another man. James Holton is nothing like Adam; he is as solid as they come. Honorable, good-looking, and brave, Lainie had a crush on him when she was young. She has to learn to trust him when it seems Adam is back from the grave bent on revenge. Lainie is targeted again and again by someone who wants her dead and James is determined to keep that from happening. Is Adam really alive or is someone impersonating him?

I thought Double Take was a great read! I enjoyed the characters and the plot line very much! The story touches on themes such as narcissism, hoarding, mental illness, revenge, friendship, loyalty, and trust in God. I look forward to the next book in the series!

I highly recommend Double Take for fans of thriller and suspense stories with a clean/inspirational approach.

This action-packed story kept me guessing and turning the pages. Lainie is an interesting main character, and her relationship with James seems realistic, particularly as they struggle to reconcile past and present. The main storyline with Lainie's life in danger after she thought she killed her abuse former boyfriend is well-plotted and explosive in the best of ways.

The issue of PTSD is handled deftly.

Since this is the beginning of a new series, I'm guessing some of the side characters will reappear in later books. I look forward to finding out!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a complimentary e-galley. All opinions in his review are my own.

In the plot, such depth. A strong reminder to keep focused on God's plan for my life and the people He brings across my path.

An interesting, enjoyable Christian romantic suspense story, “Double Take”, by Lynette Eason, has an intriguing plot, with lots of twists and turns, and features leads with strong personalities.
Guessing who the villain was came very late in the story and it was only a suspicion, such were the surprises and unexpected events.
I liked James and Lainie, their romance and backstories.
The secret crush is always a favorite trope and I liked how it turned out, with the hero gradually being enticed by his little sister’s friend, noticing new details about her and finding her captivating.
I loved how they are so supportive and understanding with each other. James is really there for Lainie who has gone through a major traumatic event and is still experiencing rough situations.
The tension between James and his father was well written and I liked how the author really prolonged its resolution.
I found some aspects of the suspense a bit far-fetched or implausible; sometimes the story felt too descriptive of mundane actions.

Double Take by Lynette Eason is an appropriate title for this story. Readers will understand why as they dive into the plot. The plot has many different woven parts that confuse Lainie and Adam’s family. Luckily, filled with determination and grit, Laine and James, the hero, worked really hard together to try to uncover the different threads and come up with a conclusion to solve the case. Eason does a wonderful job of keeping the readers guessing until the climactic moment at the end. As for the romance, Lainie and James grew up together, but Lainie was the sister’s best friend, so the sparks may have been one-sided at one time, but now, they might blossom into something else. Definitely something I hope will continue in the future stories in this series. Eason also includes the importance of family in the plot. Eason does a wonderful job at crafting memorable characters that readers will want to stick with and root for as the horrible occurrences rain down all around them. Overall, Double Take by Lynette Eason is a wonderful thrill ride with deep characters and a twist enough to the plot to make readers question the villain’s identity.

I received a complimentary copy of Double Take by Lynette Eason from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.

Lanie is still recovering from the abusive behavior of her boyfriend when she begins seeing him at a distance. Luckily for her, she finds that a long time friend is back in town, a police detective and is happy to help her determine what is going on while keeping her safe. A page turner from front to back

The first book in The Lake City Hero’s series started out with a bang. Lainie believes she shot and killed her abusive boyfriend but he seems to be back and is tormenting her. It’s up to policemen James and Cole to discover the truth. This is a Christian romantic suspense novel and I’m looking forward to the next book.
