Drama, life threatening, and romance are wrapped up in every page.
You will not want to put it down!

I love a story that keeps you guessing till the end. The book was engaging and I couldn’t read it fast enough. Once again Eason does a great job! I loved the characters especially Lainie, although I wanted to yell at her several times- be careful and watch what you are doing.
Thank you NetGalley and Revell for my ARC.

This story keeps you guessing right to the end!

Lainie works as a physician assistant, recovering after a broken engagement to an abusive, manipulative man, whom she believes she shot and killed when he attacked her. When threats against her escalate, an old friend, Detective James steps in to protect her and help figure out what's going on. They establish a relationship based on understanding as they both struggle with symptoms of PTSD.

This story introduces a host of side characters, I was intrigued by James' partner Cole who takes leave to back up his partner, so I'm looking forward to the next one. If you enjoy Lynette Eason's previous books, or you enjoy suspense, you'll want to make sure to pick this one up.

*Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC and for the opportunity to post an honest review.

This is the first book in the new Lake City Heroes series. From the very first page, I could not turn the pages fast enough. I was delightfully hooked and set everything else aside.
After Lainie breaks her engagement to Adam, she is awaken from a sound sleep with the click of a gun next to her ear. The man pointing the gun at her head is Adam. She manages to throw herself onto the floor, as the bullet misses her head but hits her shoulder. After throwing a heavy object at him, he drops the gun and she scrambles to get it before he does and though she threatens to shoot him, he does not stop, so she pulls the trigger.
Eighteen months later Lainie is plagued by a several dangerous situations as well as numerous sightings of a man staring at her who looks like Adam. Lainie attended his funeral, however, now there does not seem to be any record of his death.
James Cross, the brother of a childhood friend recently returned home from serving in the military and is now a Detective with the Lake City Police. He and his partner Cole Garrison begin looking into the strange and dangerous circumstances that Lainie has been subject to. They also ensure she always has someone with her, so she is not alone and vulnerable.
This is a fast-paced, captivating story with many moving parts with some romance mixed in, as well as unexpected situations along with the revelation of long-held secrets. With a very unexpected turn of events at the conclusion, this book kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page.

My rating - 2-3/4 stars This novel had enough elements that made it interesting. It had a decent story plot and believable characters. What it did not have for me was enough substance in the middle to keep my interest. I ended up glossing over the middle of the novel to see how it all played out. I would have put this book in a Christian category as it had a clean, wholesome feel to it. This book has no swearing, sex and had religious undertones to it. This, unfortunately, was too "vanilla" for my liking.

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this novel in return for a unbiased review

What an intense and suspense-filled thriller in the first book of Lynette Eason’s new series, Lake City Heroes. Double Take starts with an adrenaline rush when Lainie is attacked in her house, killing her ex-fiancé before he could kill her; or did she? Fast forward 18 months when someone tries to kill Lainie (again) and all evidence points to Adam, the man she thought she’d killed. The suspense keeps going with twists and turns making it difficult to put down! I loved the character development of Lainie, James and their friends. I recommend this book and look forward to the second book in the series!

The prologue lets you know that there is going to be a lot of action in this book as Adam is cornering Lainie and threatening to shoot her but she shoots him instead!

Eighteen months later Lainie is clipped on the back of her car by a truck and she goes over a mountain and crashes sideways between two trees, someone looks over the edge and Lainie can't believe it - it looks like her dead fiancée Adam!

Two weeks later Cole is injured and he goes to Laini's hospital and she treats him. Lainie is surprised to see Cole as he was in the military for a few years and had just returned to their town of Lake City, N.C.

While Lainie is at the hospital, she gets texts from people who think they see Adam, and then she gets a note with words on it only Adam would know. Cole offers to help her and then her house blows up!

Wow! This book is a jaw-clenching, gripping, and fast-paced story with so many twists and turns, I couldn’t put it down! I love the characters in this new series - Lainie and James are drawn to each other, despite (or perhaps because of) their baggage and troubled histories. The other characters make up a complex and intriguing group of friends and I hope this series includes a story for each one of them. I loved this book - the story will stay with me a long time. It’s easily one of the best I’ve read this year!
