Lynette Eason Weaved a Story That Will Keep You Guessing!

I am a fan of Lynette Eason’s book and I have to say this book has been one at the top on my list. She has pulled out no stops for suspense and I am always intrigued when I’m unsure of my “guess” and I’m not able to pin it down…. And its drawn me out to the very end.

All the characters are well developed and very interesting. Lainie is a strong woman who has a faith that shows. James is strong and swoon worthy!

I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book! I need to go find out who the main characters are!

Omg! This was such an amazing edge of your seat suspense! I had a very hard time putting this book down and stayed up in the night to finish it! It was so suspenseful!
Lainie Jackson has been trying to move on after an attempt on her life by her ex, after she atttempted to break up with him. She acted in self defense and managed to save her life by shooting him. But a year and a half later someone is trying to finish up the job, and it seems to be him again. But Lainie knows it’s not possible, because he’s dead, but then again, how can she keep on seeing him? If it’s not him, then who and why? Detective James Cross ends up in the hospital where Lainie, his sister’s bff works, after being shot while doing his duty. When he learns of Lainie’s grave predicament, he’s determined to help her out and protect her. But her aggressor seems to always anticipate her moves and his identity is confusing as well as mysterious. Will he be able to protect her, and should he fight the growing feelings this new version of Lainie is provoking him, no longer seeing her as almost younger sister anymore?
As I said, this is an edge of your seat suspense. The book had me guessing the whole time about when the villain was going to show up again and trying to decipher if he was really Lainie’s ex and how could that be possible. The plot has unique twists and turns that kept me glued to the page, the action and suspense non stop. The characters felt so relatable. They were flawed, not perfect, they had their own issues and mistakes, yet they fought to do what they thought was best to the eyes of God. Lainie was admirable, she was strong and determined, yet still vulnerable and sensitive. She thought of others well being before hers. James was a wonderful hero: courageous and protective, yet he fought his own demons with PTSD -they both did- and tried to do what was right in spite of his father’s opposition of his career. I loved the way he tried to make amends and mend his relationship with his father. There were many things to learn about in this story, it’s not all about the suspense plot. There are family relations to fix, trust in God to be conquered, and love to lead to forgiveness and healing. A faith inspired and though provoking message throughout the story! And a sweet and clean romance that was swooning too!
All in all, a captivating story that you won’t be able to put down! I highly recommend it!

"He'd looked over to see and found her terrified gaze locked on his. Her face had gone slack, her lips formed into the O shape of shocked recognition. Oh, she'd recognized him all right. No double about it. What would she do now? Tell everyone? The police? Would they be looking for him?"

Lanie was fooled once. She doesn't plan on going down the reckless road of romance again. Until she needs help from her best friend's brother. But the first step is proving to everyone that she is not seeing things. Is she safe? Or is the danger that she thought was gone forever back again?

This is one of the most unpredictable suspense books I have ever read. I was kept guessing the entire book. Looking back, the author did provide a few clues. But I definitely did not guess what was happening. This means that this book was incredibly well-written as often I can guess part of the plot. Saying anything more in this review could be a spoiler. Part of what made this book sensational was the unforeseeable and unprecedented elements that are riddled throughout the plot.

As with all Lynette Eason books, this one includes plenty of faith, friends and family. This book provided a fantastic start to her new series. I can't wait to read the next title.

I was part of a book launch team and read through this title through NetGalley. I wanted to read and review it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"I have to believe God is still working, even if I can’t see it.”

Double Take was a fabulous read that made me fall in with romantic suspense all over again! 🥰

Lainie was a character I loved from the first page, a woman determined to live life God's way, by selflessly serving others.

Kudos to the author on a book well done, and a brilliant start to a new series!

Thanks to Revell Publishing for the complimentary e-book I received to review through Netgalley. A positive review was not required of me, and the thoughts above are my own.

Content review:
The only thing I didn't care for in this book was where a character wonders to himself if hell has frozen over, but he doesn't say it aloud.
Language: dang, heck

Lynette Eason's narrative weaves suspense, questioning Lanie's sanity, Adam's existence, and unraveling sinister plots. Eason fans, get ready for a thrilling blend of action, mystery, suspense, and a hint of romance in this captivating tale.

WOW! The first sentence of the Prologue reads, "The click next to her ear jerked her out of a deep sleep to roll into a sitting position, a scream on her lips, her eyes on the man with the gun standing next to her." The suspense keeps on until the end, author Lynette Eason only giving the reader short pauses to catch a breath. Those pauses develop the romance part of the story and are very well done. Oh, and the mystery? It had me questioning until the end. James and Lainie are likeable and layered characters of faith. I was definitely rooting for an HEA for them.
I would read more of this series, Lake City Heroes, and more of any other books by author Lynette Eason. And I would feel very comfortable recommending Double Take to friends and family. If you love clean romantic suspense and/or Christian romantic suspense, this will be a winner for you.
I received a copy through NetGalley and am sharing my opinion of this exciting work of romantic suspense.

I loved this fantastic story of suspense, intrigue and romance. I loved Lannie and James. I loved all the twists and turns and the great ending. I loved that Lavinia and James both have problems that they are working through as they get to know each other and help each other. I could not put the book down. I received a copy of the book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Lainie Jackson, a physician’s assistant, has recovered from being shot by her fiancé who tried to kill her. She was able to get the gun away from him and when he continued to be a threat, she shot him. Trying to move on with her life, someone begins to target her. When her car was run off the road, she thought that she saw her dead fiancé, but that can’t be, he is dead. They realize that in order to have a future…together, they must solve the case. As the sightings continue, so do the veiled threats. Who is this person and why is he so determined to kill her? Double Take, the newest novel by Lynette Eason, is going to be a big hit with fans of the romantic suspense genre. First of all the premise of the book is unique — how can a dead man possibly come back to life? Main character Lainie is sure there’s a trick because she killed him! But her deceased fiancé is everywhere. I spent a lot of my reading time trying to figure out the BIG mystery, as do Lainie and the other main character, James. Their chemistry is instantaneous, but it never gets in the way of the investigation. I really like that about this novel. Give me naturally developing romance every time. As I said, the mystery is huge — there are lots of twists, turns, and unbelievable clues. And the fast pace of the book kept me turning the pages, while staying up later and later to find out finally whodunit. You’ll be swept up in the surprises awaiting you! Eason also delivers a thoughtful book with deep spiritual truths seamlessly woven through the narrative. There is nothing preachy in Double Take, and I appreciated the family dynamics explored by both characters. Forgiveness and letting go of things we can’t control are important themes.

Start your new year reading off right with Double Take. Highly recommended.

Highly Recommended.

Audience: adults.

BOOK REVIEW - Double Take - Lynette Eason - 3.5/5 Stars

THE STORY
Lynette Eason is one of the authors that I haven't read much of yet but really want to as I've enjoyed what I've read so far. This book split me down the middle, there were aspects that I really loved and others that missed the mark for me. So positives, the plot obviously! Lynette Eason writes such good mysteries into her stories, mysteries that I can't always figure out and I'm really good at sussing them put before the end. The question of is Adam still alive kept me guessing to the end, no spoilers. James was great, who doesn't love a protective soldier turn detective with a big soft spot for the heroine?!?! The not so positives (for me). I found the dialogue too emotional for a suspense story, so much gushing that it kinda canceled out the high energy moments. I found myself getting annoyed at the word 'sorry' as they said it sooo many times, 79 to be exact. Also I didn't really connect with Lainie's character, not sure why.

THE ROMANCE
The romance was very sweet, high-school crush/best friend's brother to more. The first kiss melted me in my chair, so cute!

THE TRUTHS
I've heard some people argue that miracles are a thing of the past but I'm fully convince that modern day miracles happen. Like in the story, God looks out for us and protects and provides for us in so many incredible ways. It may not always happen in the way we expect or want but He never abandons us. Our very lives are miracles and God continues to reveal His love for us in miraculous ways!

Double Take kept me up late. I could not put this book down to save my life. From the beginning I couldn’t wait to see how Lynette Eason would wrap everything up. And she throws plenty of twists and turns your way to keep you guessing.

I also loved seeing James and Lainie’s relationship develop. It was a bit of a slow burn but totally worth it! There’s also some great discussions about God and having a relationship with Him.

The supporting characters are great too, and there’s a nice tease for the next book. I cannot wait for it to release!

Overall, Double Take is a gripping suspense with a sweet romance and plenty of action.

Is Lainie going crazy? Is Adam dead or alive? I was hooked on the mystery aspect of the story but it took me a while to connect with the characters. At first there seemed to be so many friends introduced I struggled with who was who. However I didn't let this bother me as I was invested in the mystery and trying to figure out who was after Laine and why. I was suspicious of so many people and rarely was I correct. I was shocked when the main reveal happened. Some of the side characters really interested me and I can't wait to see if we get to know them in more in books to come. I do wish faith had been discussed a bit more between the characters, it was very lightly mentioned.

This was a great suspense that pulls you in from the first page and doesn’t let go until the end. I loved how there were so many twist and turns that just as I thought I had figured it out something happened that changed that theory. I loved the characters and I loved how they weren’t perfect and were just trying to do the best they can. I loved how the friends were there for each other through it all. I can’t wait to read more books in this series.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

Buckle in for a wild ride with Lynette Eason’s latest: Double Take! I was hooked from the very beginning; I read the entire book in a single sitting, and you will, too! Clear your schedule because this is one book you will not want to miss.

Lainie is the kind of heroine you want on your side. She’s smart and friendly and having such a hard time that you can’t help but cheer for her from the first time you meet.

Detective James Cross is the guy you want protecting you from danger. Experienced and smart but hurting, he’s willing to put everything on the line for her safety.

That’s just part of what makes this book so great. These characters are realistic, likeable, and flawed. I want to know them and see them succeed – and that’s a problem, because Eason put these two in serious trouble. Trying to figure out where the danger is coming from will keep you turning pages until the very end. It’s rare that a book surprises me, but this one did, and it was fantastic!

With fun romantic tension, realistic characters and family problems, authentic faith lessons, and surprises throughout the story – Double Take needs to be your next read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

How is this for a heart pounding first line? ”The click next to her ear jerked her out of a deep sleep to roll into a sitting position, a scream on her lips, her eyes on the man with the gun standing next to her.”

Lainie Jackson has gone through a terrible attack from her ex-fiancé Adam, barely escaping with her life. How could he be stalking her 18 months after that horrific night? He's dead, isn't he? With danger, suspicion, and several plot twists, I found myself questioning everything. Did Adam somehow survive? Lainie will only get to the bottom of this mystery and survive new life threatening events if she trusts Detective James Cross to help.

I like to be challenged to think when I read a suspenseful mystery, and it's even better when there is romance and more than just action. Lynette Eason's portrayal of Lainie having to trust James added dimension to a well written story that I really enjoyed. I highly recommend this first book of the Lake City Heroes. Allow yourself some time. Once you start reading it you will find it difficult to stop.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and The Launch Team Geek. I was not required to write a positive review all opinions are my own.

Eighteen months ago, Lainie survived a murder attempt by her ex-boyfriend by grabbing his weapon and killing him - and she thought that was the end of it, except for the PTSD. But when she's almost killed on the road in suspicious circumstances and then starts to see him around the hospital she works, it becomes clear that there's something more going on. Did Adam somehow survive, or is someone else doing their best to make it look that way? And if the latter, who? Either way, they're clearly out to kill her. James has demons of his own, but Lainie is an old friend and he'll do whatever he has to to keep her safe - even at the risk of his own life, or heart. Can they find and stop the culprit before it's too late?

A definite edge-of-your-seat page-turner, with more than a touch of mystery, plenty of suspense and action, and the perfect amount of romance. I loved the way that James supported Lainie even when things got messy - it made for some really meaningful interactions. I also loved the way that the mystery/suspense side was done - there were clues there, but nothing too obvious, and in general kept me reading to see what was going to happen next. A great mix of romance and suspense, including complications in both to keep things interesting (it's far from a straightforward 'find the bad guy' before he kills you). All in all, a great read, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

Adam, Lainie’s former fiancé, tried to murder her after she broke their engagement. Instead, Lainie killed him. Didn’t she? When someone runs her off the road, Lainie thinks she sees Adam peering down the embankment. Then coworkers spot him at the hospital and text her. Can James, a friend’s older brother and Lainie’s childhood crush, who is now a police detective, help figure out what’s going on - and protect her from a dead man?

I’ve read many of Eason’s books; this is the best so far. The main characters have differing backgrounds, but both struggle with PTSD and both need to rebuild relationships with parents. I liked the idea of being “prayed up” and of asking God to be our strength rather than give us strength. From the opening betrayal there is plenty of action, twists and a light romance in this first in a new series. I’m looking forward to the next. Highly recommended.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

Double Take is a Christian romance thriller and the first book in the Lake City Heroes series.

This is going to be a fantastic series with this first one setting the pace. It is gritty and romantic in all the right places. The major characters are Detective James Cross, honorably discharged from the Army Criminal Investigation Division due to wounds sustained when an IED blew up near him. He has a distant relationship with his father. Now with the Lake City Police Department, he's rooming with partner, Cole, while he figures out his family dynamics.

Physician's Assistant Lainie Jackson survived an attempt to kill her by her husband who died during the incident. While at work she gets a glimpse of a man that looks like her husband. Repeated attempts to kill her put her in danger and wondering who and why. She connects with James when he is brought into the ER. She shares what has happened and he is determined to protect her and find the person responsible.

I really enjoyed this one. The story of is he or isn't he dead is a continuing thread throughout the story. It was skillfully woven and kept the story gaining momentum until the reveal. It was full of tension as the characters worked the case chasing a ghost.

Double Take
Lynette Eason
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

James Cross served in the Army Criminal Investigation Division. Now honorably discharged, he is still dealing with a traumatic event from his time on active duty. Home and working as a detective with the Lake City Police Department, he's staying with a friend while navigating some family dynamics.

Lainie Jackson survived an attempted murder by her ex-boyfriend 18 months ago, which ended when she grabbed the weapon and shot him. Believing him to be dead, she's unnerved when she spots someone who looks like her ex and seems intent on finishing what he started. Lainie insists it can't be him, but someone who looks just like him keeps trying to kill her. James and Lanie must work together to discover the truth before it's too late.

This suspense story started with a riveting opening sentence and sped along to the conclusion. Eason sprinkled clues along the way to hint toward the possible villains, but kept some things hidden until revealing the full picture at the conclusion.

This book spoke to necessary boundaries, having a healthy self-worth, and being vulnerable enough to seek reconciliation. We enjoyed this book and look forward to anticipated books in the new series.

We received an advance copy from the publisher. This is our honest review.
