Double Take is book one in Lynette Eason's newest series, Lake city Heroes. This book is full of suspense. Lanie Jackson is a physician's assistant and is finally recovering from having to shoot her her ex. She is sure he died before her eyes, but now someone is trying to kill her and she keeps seeing her ex lurking in various places.
Detective James Cross recently honorably discharged from the service is helping Lanie. I loved the dynamics between Lanie and James, and the fact that they have a group of friends along with their faith makes for a great book. I loved every word!

So if you are in the mood for great suspense, grab a cozy blanket, a pot of tea and settle in for a fantastic read.

I was given a copy of Double take with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.

I cannot turn my mind off after reading this book. Thoughts are ricocheting in my brain. I have had an internal argument with myself repeatedly for the past 24 hours - yes, he is alive. No, he is not alive. Someone is posing him, and then I would start over again. This book had a brilliant plotline that kept me guessing right up until the very end.

Detective James Cross and PA Lanie Jackson are thrown together in this tense mystery. Lanie survived an attack from her ex-boyfriend. She ended up shooting him in self-defense. He died, or so she thought. Now it seems he is back for revenge, but Lanie knows he died or did he? If he is alive, she wants to know how. If he is not alive, she wants to know who wants her dead. Both characters make a dynamic duo as they are on the run for their very lives as someone wants Lanie to die. This vengeful person knows things he should not know about Lanie, which makes the case even more eerie. James and Lanie both have battle scars from their past which they are fighting daily as well. Their faith is stretched as they try to find their bearings and find some sense of normalcy in their lives all while fighting to stay alive.

This was an enthralling blend of action, intrigue, suspense and romance inside a strange mystery that had me scratching my head and arguing with myself. If you like mind games and puzzles, you will love this one. I lived inside this book for 2 days as I worked my way through it, only stopping to work and sleep. This is a fantastic new start to what I believe will be another great series.

Thank you to Revell Books and the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I received this book as an ARC with no expectation of a positive review. Double Take is the beginning of a new series for Ms. Eason. This is a story of Lanine who survived an attempted murder attack on her. She ended up killing him to save herself. Yet, eighteen months later, she is being gaslighted into questioning if he is really dead as attempts on her life start. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat as well as keep you guessing until the end. It is a must read.

Double Take pulls the reader into hair-raising plot twists from page one! I’m pretty good at figuring out where story lines are going, but this one was a string of surprises. The plot had a scary true-crime flavor with an appealing friends-to-more romance. My husband works at a hospital, so I loved that the protagonist was a PA and gave us a glimpse of behind-the-scenes workplace drama and a realistic medical setting. I also liked that the book didn’t shy away from intense and gritty scenarios. Definitely one of my favorite suspense books ever.

I received this book from the publisher and was not required to leave a review. The honest opinion is my own.

Amazing read! I was on the seat of my chair the whole time! I didn’t see who ‘he’ was until it was revealed in the story! Amazing work!

Lainie and James had an amazing connection throughout the book. Their open and honest relationship kept me feeling the realness of their relationship.

Double Take by Lynette Eason. First book in the Lake City heroes series.
Romantic suspense with a ton of action and will keep you guessing till the end.

I am always thrilled to read a Lynette Eason story and diving into Double Take did not disappoint. She has such a talent for gripping you within the first few pages and not letting go.
Lannie survived a murder attempt by her ex. However to do that she shot and killed him. Right? Then why does she keep seeing him or is it someone who looks like him. And why?
I am not sure who’s family situation was crazier… Lannie’s, Adam’s, or James’.
I really enjoyed James’ character. He was truly a good guy dealing with his family issues and issues from being in the military. The banter between him and Cole was a great addition to the story and I cannot wait for Cole’s story in the next book.
I may be biased because I am a huge Lynette Eason fan, but this book was a great escape for me. I was trying to figure out the ending and couldn’t. Lynette surprised me a couple times. I love it when an author does that.

Lynette Eason knows how to craft romantic suspense. The story starts out with a bang and keeps up the intensity and fast pace until the very end. James and Lainie are super cute together and I quite enjoyed the big brother of best friend trope. Both James and Lainie have dealt with major trauma in the past and this commonality brings them together, among many other things. I liked the villain's voice that pops up in the storyline, which added a different dimension to the plot.
The thread of true forgiveness and unconditional love weaves throughout the interactions James and Lainie have with their respective families.
The adrenaline-filled race to find the dangerous stalker had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. I loved the secondary characters and am totally invested in finding out what happens between Cole and Kenzie in the next book.

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

This was completely gripping from the first page. Because of how it was written, it my heart pumping with tension and fear as I could “feel” what the lead character was feeling. Had just enough romance to balance the stress, and it t definitely had me guessing until the final reveal. Highly recommend!

Double Take grabbed my interest from the first line. A fast-paced book featuring physician assisant Lanie Jackson and police officer James Cross, a series of trials, twists, and turns intersperse this Christan suspense novel.

Hunted by a man who looks like her murderous ex-boyfriend, Lanie struggles with her previous experience. Did Adam really die? Certain he did, Lanie accepts help from her highschool crush, James, and together they try to determine the man's identity before the attempts on her life prove successful.

Lannie has a lot of issues, her parents were not your ‘normal’ parents, her siblings take advantage of her and her fiancée Adam tried to kill her. She only survived by killing him. Now 18 months later she thinks she sees Adam after her car is run off the road and down an embankment. James has his own baggage starting with a dad who hasn’t spoken to him in years, he is back home from service but hasn’t let his family know. But one heroic action at his new job puts him in the news and his secret is out. As unlikely allies they try to unravel the mystery of the not so dead fiancée and keep Lannie safe. But ‘Adam’ seems to stay two steps ahead of them. Lannie doesn’t want to believe Adam survived but evidence pointing to that keeps mounting. Eason has knocked it out of the park again with her romantic suspense. It is a page turner that can keep you up to see what happens next. I was given an ARC with no expectation except an honest review.

Double Take is an exciting, emotion-packed beginning to the Lake City Heroes series! Fast-paced, intensely suspenseful action kept me reading expectantly! Well crafted, believable characters kept me totally immersed in the story following James and Lainie as they navigated dangerous situations and dealt with challenging personal and family issues. The twists in the captivating plot kept me guessing to the end. Their slowly unfolding romantic relationship is heartwarming. From the first page, you are rooting for Lainie and wanting to know what happens next. Just when you think you know who the villain is, there is another surprise that keeps you guessing. The budding romance between James and Lainie is just another reason I could not put this book down.

This is the first book in the Lake City Heroes series and I can not wait for the next story.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Revell through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Double Take is a true page-turner from front to back. James Cross is a strong man who has experienced many misfortunes and served as an Army Criminal Investigation Division agent. He seems natural; it’s almost like he stepped out of that paper before you. Cole has a part of lightness amity, which relieves the general tense atmosphere created by the plot.

The plot turns when Lainie Jackson, an energetic Physician Assistant with the ICU homecare team, appears. Her world is taken apart from her by attempts on her life that force her into hiding in fear of death. Lainie’s character develops from victim to survivor, and she pleads that she knows that her ex is still alive.

As for the storyline, it seems that it succeeds overall in being well done. Yet the plot is labyrinthine in mystery and suspense as Lainie teams up with James to hunt down her attacker. Time is short, and the issues are critical–like watching an edge-of-your-seat thriller. This is indeed one of the best books with suspense and mystery; readers will not regret it.

I want to thank Revell and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

All I can say is "Wow"!! When a book begins, "The man who professed to love her only hours before was lining the barrel up for his shot", you know you have to read this story. Not only does the first chapter grab you, then the next chapter has you wondering who is stalking Lainie 18 months later - a look-alike killer or her ex-fiance, who is dead. Or is he? The characters and their friendship along with the tracking down of clues to figure out this puzzle are just two of the ingredients to this captivating suspense story. Sometimes I felt like I couldn't read fast enough to find out what would happen next. I received an advance copy from the publisher but all opinions are my own.

Double Take
by Lynette Eason
Publisher: Revell
Series: Lake City Heros, Book 1
Rated: 4
Obtain: Borrow or buy
Back of the Book: “Detective James Cross has been honorably discharged from the Army Criminal Investigation Division due to wounds sustained when an IED blew up near him. Now with the Lake City Police Department, he's rooming with this good buddy and partner, Cole, while he figures out his family dynamics.
Physician Assistant Lainie Jackson is eighteen months out from an attempted murder perpetrated by her ex, which ended when she managed to grab the weapon and shoot him. When he appears to have survived and is back to finish the job he started, Lainie insists it's not possible. But someone keeps trying to kill her, and she keeps seeing his face.
Together, Lainie and James must work together to find out who, exactly, is after her and why he wants her dead. And failure is not an option.”
Impressions: I liked this suspenseful novel. I was kept on my toes as I questioned who the killer could be. The mind games played on Laine were as frustrating to me as I tried to imagine what really happened and who was behind it all. The romance of this story was ok. I feel like if the characters would not have known each other before the events that brought them back together their relationship would have felt too much like a savior complex. The author weaves the characters' past together throughout the story making their romance feel natural. This was a great suspenseful, clean romance.

I received an ARC of this book via the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here.
