Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the review copy of this audiobook.
This is a 2nd book in series and an excellent follow up to The Doctor's Wife. Narrators were great!
Fern has successfully gotten away with murdering her husband, framing his mistress, Alice, for the murder, and murdering the mistress' husband. Now, Alice is in prison and Fern is moving on with her life with her new boyfriend Roger. But, things aren't always as they seem. Just how far will Fern go to make sure her secret stays hidden?
I can't wait for the next book in this series!
When Fern meets Roger after losing her doctor husband, she thinks her life will change for better.
She is happy that Roger is with her in almost every step of her new life, but when she realizes the hidden truth she is shocked as Roger AKA Greg seems to know a lot more about her.
Will Fern get caught for what she did in her past and will Roger AKA Greg be the one to change her future? This book was a good sequel to The Doctor's Wife.
Thank you to NetGalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookouture Audio for approving the audiobook ARC
This is the 2nd book in a series and you should read the first book first in order for this one to make sense. If you read this book first, you will know what happens in the first book as the author does summarize what happened in the last book. There seems to be a third book that I am so excited about from the mistresses' POV.
Fern is the widow and happy to be rid of her husband and his mistress one who is dead and the other is in jail for his murder. Enter Roger, a new man in Fern's life with secrets of his own. Fern thinks Roger is great, but Roger has his own reason's for wanting to be with Fern.
What follows is a game of cat and mouse and Fern is calculating as ever. She's the villain you can't wait to see get her karma. This book was so entertaining!
I listened to this terrific audiobook with two narrators; Sarah Durham (Fern) and Luke R. Francis (Roger) were brilliant.
This is the 2nd book kn the Doctor's Wife series. I love the narrators voice for this book. We follow 3 different This charter and go through their narrative in the after math of Drews Death. This book set into different parts . Its been beey interested hearinf from the 3 POVs of the characters. The pacing is very good in this and is well spoken/written.
Without having read the first book in this series, this book is a solid 3 stars for me. I feel like I maybe would have enjoyed it more had I read both the first book before listening to this audio book. It very much felt like you were jumping in mid story. The ending also left me wanting more. It felt like the story left off right as it was getting interesting, but not really at a cliffhanger.
I wasn't able to listen to this one in time before it was archived. I do have this book downloaded so once i read it I will be back with a full review.
Fern got away with murder. Twice. And now she’s home free … or is she?
Following her husband’s affair and her revenge, Fern has it made. She has a beautiful house, all the money she could ever need from the life insurance payout, and she’s even been spending time with a new man. What could possibly go wrong?
When Fern discovers that her new beau isn’t who she thinks he is, everything starts to fall apart. How is she going to be able to keep her secrets and remain a free woman?
You’re going to have to read to find out.
I absolutely loved book #1 so I was very excited when book #2 came out. I enjoyed following Fern and Greg’s stories. It was very intriguing to me that Greg’s motives were revealed at the very beginning vs. as a plot twist. I’m not used to that. It caused me to be even more on edge the entire time I was reading. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Fern! I can’t decide if I’m rooting for or against her, but I am dying (no pun intended) to see how her story unfolds.
This was such an amazing listen! I loved that there were two narrators. A+ for the narration.
Note to the good stuff. I enjoyed the first book in this series, The Doctor’s Wife, so I was excited to dive into this second book. It did not disappoint!
The suspense was on point and the pacing was great. There weren’t a ton of twists, but the few that were included were well thought out. The character development continues from the first book, and I enjoyed the dive into these characters even more.
I can’t wait until book 3 comes out in December.
Thank you to Net Galley and Bookouture for this advanced copy. My review is honest and voluntary.
This book is a sequel. I haven’t read the 1st one and it was good as a standalone. I liked the story and had a simple thriller storyline. I don’t think it was shocking.
Book was a great follow up to book 1! The narrators were A+ and really made the story come alive- Fern truly develops into a wackadoodle which was super entertaining to see. The different deeper insight of characters were a refreshing change and I loved the POV switch. Love a quick thriller… and even better an extension of an original great book!
I loved anything Daniel Hurst, and this one was just as compelling as I’m used to from him. Loved it!
This was entertaining enough, but mostly fairly predictable. I was rather shocked. though. at the fate of who I considered to be one of the main characters. I hadn't read the previous book in the series so perhaps if I had, I would have found this one more enticing. The book ended with a cliffhanger but I'm not sure I want to spend anymore time with evil Fern anytime soon.
This would be a good airplane book
In book one we read about how Dr. Drew moved him and his wife Fran so he could follow his mistress Alice who left to live with her new partner Rory essentially that book ended with Dr. Drew dead as well as Rory and Alice was sent to prison for the doctor’s murder and Fran got off Scott free with the life insurance and a whole new lease on life. She moved to a new posh lavish home that she’s furnishing, she’s dating a hot guy name Roger and she’s about to celebrate her 40th birthday what Fran doesn’t know is that Roger’s Real name is Greg and he used to be Drews tennis partner back when they lived in Manchester. She also doesn’t know that Greg is trying to help Alice. Alice is suffering a life sentence in prison due to the death of Dr. Drew something she didn’t do. She has one friend named Sharon but she’s about to be released and moreover she has one enemy named Kelly who seems to absolutely hate her but through it all she never wants thought Fran put her there. After she allows Greg to come and visit her and he explains his plight, at first she skeptical but once he explained to situation she not only excepts it but wants him to be careful because after all if he’s right he’s dating a murderer. This book ends with a twist personified an OMG… OMG… I wish I could say what it is! All I know is I love Daniel Hearst books cliffhangers and all! I want to thank bookoucher audio Ann Net Galley for my free arc audio copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
Man, this widow is evil and underhanded! I had really hoped that Roger would make it out alive, but sadly no. I can't wait to see how the other woman gets her revenge after being released from prison! Looking forward to the next installment of this series! Daniel Hurst hits it out of the park again!

The story definitely kept my attention, just missing some of the big twists that Daniel Hurst usually does! But I will always read what he writes...hands down! Overall, good follow up to the The Doctor's Wife.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC, in exchange for my honest opinion.
OMG this one was just as good as the first one!
HUGE thank you to Daniel Hurst, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book and provide an honest review.
I loved it. Have you read book one? If so read on, if you haven't then stop reading this and go read the book! I'll say it again, this isn't my normal genre but I am in love with Daniel's writing and will automatically YES to any book he releases from now on.
In The Doctor's Widow, as the title suggests, we are following Fern who has apparently not only gotten away with murder but cashed in a huge life insurance policy, found a new man and is generally just living her best life. How lucky that she found someone as great as Roger when she least expected to find anyone?! So lucky she thinks she'll mention having a baby soon, after all she is about to be 40. Isn't that too neat and tidy though? Is Roger all he is cracked up to be?
<spoiler> Why did I hate Roger and what he was trying to do?! haha Fern is obviously upset by the affair and she OBVIOUSLY took her revenge plot too far which has led to a string of murders beyond the original one she planned. Still I almost wanted her to get away with it. Rationally 'Roger' is in the right but for what I feel like are the wrong reasons. He paints the doctor as a good man and friend while saying Fern is jealous over nothing sometimes. DUDE, the doctor had a whole butt affair! She has every right to be a little crazy. UGH! </spoiler>
This one is a ride for sure. As always this author delivers. This loving wife finds herself becoming the betrayed. A once loving wife turns into a woman she doesn't recognize. The whole she digs gets deeper and deeper. What will she do to have the happily ever after she's always wanted?
The Doctor's Widow (The Doctor's Wife #2)
by Daniel Hurst
Narrated by Sarah Durham, Luke R Francis
Before Fern was the doctor's widow, she was the doctor's wife. But that is a story for another day. Now Fern is four months out from her husband's death and she's moving on in life quite nicely. As far as she is concerned, anything bad that happened in the past was the fault of other people. Anything she did was because others made her do it. Fern is not a very nice person but not many people who are alive today know that she not a very nice person. Instead people mostly feel sorry or sad for her and want the best for her. They might not even mind if she finds a someone new to date this soon after her husband's death.
We see things from Fern's point of view and she's the same excuse making piece of work that she was in the past. We also see things from the point of view of her new boyfriend, Roger, who has secrets of his own. There are also other points of views to fill out the story but it is Fern who sends chills up my spine, Fern who thinks she is justified to do anything she does, Fern who knows she is not a good person but who also doesn't care. Both narrators do a good job with this emotional and wild story that may not be over yet.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this ARC.
I read The Doctor's Wife earlier this year and really enjoyed it, so I was excited to have the opportunity to read the second in the series.
Following on from where the first book left off, we follow Fern, who has just received the life insurance payout as a result of her husband's death. She has just started dating Roger, who is spontaneous and romantic, everything she needs at the minute. They soon learn that neither is being completely honest with the other and they both have secrets that they are hiding.
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and whizzed through it in less than a day. I found Fern to be a fascinating character and very much enjoyed following her story and wondering what she would do next.
There were twists and turns aplenty and I'm really hoping that there will be a book number 3!
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.
Pop some popcorn, put your feet up, and entertain yourself with the continued saga of Fern Devlin. In Book 1 she went from wife to widow. In addition to Fern's POV we also have Greg(introduced at the end of Book 1), Alice(the mistress), and the less than competent police detective. We know exactly what Fern has or hasn't done. Will the authorities get smart? Fern is a deliciously diabolical MC and I quite enjoyed this one in audio format. Onward to the next book featuring Alice.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.
