‘The Yacht’ is a great thriller and I really enjoyed it and would highly recommended it

A great locked room thriller. A group of friends gather on a yacht for new year celebrations. When the yacht sets adrift will they make it back to shore?
The group of characters are all heavily flawed and unlikeable. I didn’t care for any of them, but I think that’s the point. Secrets which have been hidden come to light, arguments ensue and instead of working together everyone is pulled further apart. It was a taut thriller which moved at breakneck speed!
The twists weren’t all unexpected and I was left with a few unanswered questions. However, a solid, fairly quick read with plenty of tension.

Remember the episode of Friends where all but Rachel have great jobs and lots of money to splash out leaving her feeling like the poor relation? That’s the situation Hannah the protagonist of this story finds herself into. Its New Years Eve and Hannah had been invited to party on a moored yacht with former Uni friends and their partners, none of whom are in any way likeable. It all gets a bit messy and the group awake the next morning to find themselves adrift at sea. Rather like small children; with huge egos and self-centred personalities it’s no wonder they’re all clashing one minute and forming awkward aligences the next. As time goes on and no sign of escape or rescue, secrets unfold as quickly as resources deplete. Who will make it out alive - quite literally?
This book - pardon the pun - didn’t float my boat. None of the characters had any redeemable qualities and I would have cheerfully let them all float off into nowhere without a second thought. Even the protagonist irritated me with her naivety of belief that the other women liked or respected her. Next minute this silly character is barking out orders to keep them all alive which seemed pretty unbelievable either that she either had it in her to take control or that any of her ‘peers’ would actually listen to her. If this is what passes for friendship in modern life frankly we’re all doomed!

A hard read, full of implausible situations and implausible choices.

I do enjoy reading about people that I can't stand but this book couldn't hold all of these things to dislike.

The Yacht by Sarah Goodwin is about a group of friends stranded at sea. A locked room-type book? Yes, please!

It’s New Year’s Eve and Hannah and her friends decide to rent a yacht for a huge celebration. But when they wake up the next morning, they realize that they are floating in the middle of the sea. There is no help around, no Wi-Fi signal, no food, no fuel and they can’t see land for miles. TERRIFYING.

It’s such a good read, you’re going to love it!

The plot:

WHEN THE TRUTH SURFACES… New Year’s Eve, 2023 . When Hannah and her friends rent a luxury yacht in an Italian marina, they party in style under the stars until they pass out. …WHO WILL SINK… The next morning, they are horrified to find they have been cut adrift into the open ocean, with no sight of land and no fuel in the engine. And that’s when the first person goes missing… …AND WHO WILL SWIM? The Yacht is a twisty locked-room thriller perfect for fans of The White Lotus , The Hunting Party and The Castaways .

Out now!

All I can say is wow! This was an intense, twisty psychological thriller. The action picked up quickly and I read the book in two sittings, needing to know what happened. Completely unpredictable and thoroughly entertaining!

The Yacht really delivered for me! A locked room thriller, taking place on a luxury superyacht, with a cast of really awful characters…Um, yes please!!

Seriously though, some of the characters are practically unbearable. I wasn’t sure if I even wanted to get into this book at first because some of the characters were just so awful, but I’m really glad I stuck with it !! The plot was incredibly intense, and it kept me wanting to read more, regardless of the hate that I was feeling for some of the characters.

My heart was definitely pumping hard during some scenes, and I will admit to even shedding a tear at one point! I really appreciate a book that is able to manipulate my emotions, and The Yacht did just that, so I’m giving it a solid four stars. It probably would have been a 5 star thriller read for me, if I didn’t hate the characters so much.

Well written, awesome setting and a great twist. The book is a locked room mystery on water and I loved it!

This was an entertaining locked-room thriller set on board a luxury yacht - one of my favourite settings. I've had a number of disappointing reads in this genre, and am pleased to report that this one did not disappoint!

I do have a few criticisms. Apart from Hannah, the characters seemed a bit far-fetched - as though the author was parodying the stereotype of horrible rich people - as did the fact that Hannah wouldn't have seen through her "friends" years previously, but - I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say this - at least she does eventually, The overall plot was decent, albeit predictable in some respects and somewhat chaotic in others. The pacing felt a bit drawn-out, and the long descriptions of the luxuries of the yacht could definitely have been streamlined...

But overall this was a gripping page-turner, which I enjoyed and would recommend as one of the better books within its genre.

Being marooned out eh sea is one of my worst nightmares, I literally felt the fear and tension in this novel! At times my heart was racing and I had to remind myself it wasn’t real, such is the calibre of the writing! I really enjoyed it.

Hannah is spending new years above a yacht with her best friends from university; however, as long boiling tensions boil over the night doesn't play out as planned. waking up the next morning the friends find that they are adrift in the sea with no fuel and no land in sight; then the first person goes missing.

This was an enjoyable thriller with lots of long held tensions and secrets that as they were revealed all led to some tense moments. This was a fun and interesting read that I enjoyed in one sitting.

I was able to start this book and thought it had a lot of potential, but there were problems with the file after so long. If I can find a way to fix said problem, I'll gladly go back and finish!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy. This one was very fast paced!! I was so nervous the whole time! Hannah and her friends party on a rented yacht for New Years until they all pass out. The next morning they realize they are in the middle of the ocean, no sight of land, and no fuel. Who will sink......and who will swim?

A slow and steady start with no clues as to how this book was to suddenly ramp up into a great thriller. On the whole this was a good book but the main of the characters were just horrible people and had it not suddenly changed speed I don’t think I’d have finished this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Hannah feels her life has not fulfilled its potential; she's tried but failed, and her self-esteem is low. Attending a glamorous New Year's Eve party should be the highlight of her year, but it puts her in a dangerous situation that makes her reveal her true self.
It is a toxic and twisty tale of frenemies in a forced proximity setting. The ethos is increasingly menacing as the characters reveal the people behind their facades with sometimes devastating results.
I like the characterisation, the intensity and the twists in this story.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I really enjoyed this book, I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat and unable to breathe at times like I was experiencing the plot alongside the characters

This author is really growing on me, and I think this may be her best one yet! The story is a very tense, locked room/yacht page turner. Hannah is invited to hang out on a friends' yacht for New Year's Eve and someone goes missing. SWEET!! Hold on to your hats and buckle up! Of course, everyone is a suspect, and everyone is pointing fingers. The characters were actually pretty well developed for these sorts of stories, and I really liked Hannah. I didn't really like anyone else, but I get that was the point. I did question how Hannah could stand them in the first place but couldn't dwell on that because it was such a crazy ride! I look forward to more!

Here is my review for The Yacht by Sarah Goodwin

I found I got into this psychological thriller straight away and it hooked me from the start. The characters are all slightly different but the three women have been friends since school although now one is successful in the world of fashion, one married someone with an estate and one wound her business up when her design got nicked and sold at a cheaper price. They have the party but on New Year’s Day, the yacht has been set adrift from the dock with hardly any food on board. The following day, the first person has gone missing, where could they have gone? What has happened to them? This sets the scene for the thriller and where things start to go awry with people accusing each other of things etc. It’s very twisty and turny in how it’s written but this makes for better reading. Towards the end is great and some great writing although to be honest the whole book has been well written. The plot is a good one with very good prose that explains everything in great detail. I enjoyed reading this book.

Part thriller, part survival adventure story, this is a gripping and fast paced story. Sarah Goodwin writes this sort of survival tale really well, and I really enjoyed it - it reminded me of her first book Stranded, in a good way.

I have to wonder with this one, though, why on earth Hannah would put herself out to the tune of driving 12 hours across Europe straight after work to attend a New Year's Eve party with these vile people who clearly don't like her or respect her. They don't even make any effort to conceal it. Leon and Olly in particular were so awful that it seemed unbelievable that she would continue to have anything to do with them after previous meetings with them. If they'd been a little less awful, a bit less extreme, it would have felt a little more believable.

It’s New Years Eve and six friends are on a lavish yacht celebrating. Hannah is the odd one out as she’s not rich as the rest of them, but was Libby’s childhood friend so gets invited along each year to the lavish parties. Fueled with alcohol and drugs, things turn for the worst and they find themselves floating out at sea.

I really enjoyed the suspense of this story and that ended was not what I expected. The characters were all easy to read about and suited their roles. The narrative and descriptions were so realistic that I felt I was on that yacht.

Full of suspense and secrets.
