All of Hannah’s friends from her days at college are now wildly rich/successful, and this year for New Years they’ll be partying hard on a luxury yacht. Should be a trip to remember, right? Oh, it is, but not for the reasons you might think. Things most definitely go as planned (or do they?) and it’s not long before they are lost, adrift at sea, but that’s just the start of their problems. This is a tight, tense, thriller. Right from the start we get a real sense of Hannah, and the differences between her and her rich friends. And it’s not just the wealth differences, though that is readily apparent. We are treated to the cliche of the haves and have-nots (and I do not mean cliche in a negative way, it’s just that many of the characters fit in that well worn belief of how the rich view themselves and how they view the ‘little people’.) This is the third or fourth book I’ve read by Ms. Goodwin and she continues to impress. Thanks so much to Avon Books UK, Avon and NetGalley for the chance e to read and review The Yacht.

meh the characters were unlikable and the story was totally boring to me until about 3/4 the way through. The antagonist was also predictable and a short ending to the book.
I couldn't put this one down!!
It was an edge of your seat thrill ride!
I was riveted to the page reading everyone's secrets and lies! These characters used their outside voice for there horrible insight thoughts and I couldn't get enough!
This is a must read and it's out now!!!
What a tense thriller this was...I was so invested in what would happen and I was so frustrated with and disappointed by some of the characters. The plotting and suspense were excellent and the characters were so well-written, I think this may be Goodwin's best so far. I absolutely loved it.
Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a copy. It is my pleasure to write an honest review.
It's New Year’s Eve, Hannah and her friends rent a luxury yacht for a party. After an evening if revelations Hannah wakes to find they are out at sea, with no sight of land and no fuel in the engine worried how they will get back to shore then one of them goes missing. What has happened and will they survive the sea and each other. Secrets are spilt, and tensions are high.
I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!! I loved it. I always enjoy an isolated setting, but out at sea is always the most scary thought for me. I loved the twists, and the tension throughout the out had me on the edge of my seat. This is now my 3rd Sarah Goodwin, and I will definitely be reading the rest of her backlist.
Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books UK, and Sarah Goodwin for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I do love a novel by Sarah Goodwin. I have been on some adventures with her books. I thought I wanted to go on a yacht - after reading this fine thriller I think I will stay on dry land.
It's got a premise I have read before but this felt fresh and exciting. Loved the prose and the build up and the hidden secrets. Recommended!
I read this over New Year's Eve, and that was the PERFECT time for it - although I wouldn't dissuade anyone from reading it during the rest of the year! I love stories involving toxic or tight-knit but troubled friendships, so I absolutely loved this - completely enthralling, I was pulled in from the first page and couldn't put it down.
The Yacht by Sarah Goodwin
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Avon and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

WHEN THE TRUTH SURFACES… New Year’s Eve, 2023 . When Hannah and her friends rent a luxury yacht in an Italian marina, they party in style under the stars until they pass out. …WHO WILL SINK… The next morning , they are horrified to find they have been cut adrift into the open ocean, with no sight of land and no fuel in the engine. And that’s when the first person goes missing… …AND WHO WILL SWIM?
My Opinion
Sarah Goodwin is one of those authors that makes me feel the need to read more of what she has written. I started reading this unsure of what to make of it, but there was so much action that I was soon hooked. This was such a captivating tale with so much going on, that it was hard to put down. Another great book from Sarah Goodwin.
Rating 4/5
I had really high hopes for The Yacht but unfortunately it did not quite hit the spot. I didn't like the characters so found it difficult to care what happened to them but there were some interesting plot twists that kept me guessing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for my ARC.
This is my first read by Sarah Goodwin, and before I’d even finished I’d already downloaded all her other books! I really, really enjoyed it. It was thrilling, dramatic, tense - the lot. If you’re looking for something fast paced, then I’d recommend this.
Doesn't a New Year's Eve party on a yacht sound like a fantastic way to celebrate the new year? Just wait until the next day when you wake up and the yacht is no longer in the harbor. For Hannah, things just go downhill from there. Way down! Just when you think the six passengers have hit rock bottom, there is a new way to fall. One thing I appreciated about reading this book is that I knew almost nothing about what to expect. I'll keep things that way for you, but just add one more thought. Like Hannah, you might find your priorities and patterns shifting after "The Yacht."
Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.
This is hard to review, because I wanted to like this one so much! And I kept hoping until the end that an unexpected twist would snap me out of my boredom, but alas it didn’t happen.
Please bear in mind that this is my personal opinion and could be totally different for someone else.
I read loads of thrillers and am aware that I have become quite picky and have high expectations of what I read.
The premise was so interesting but unfortunately the execution just fell flat for me.
It's a locked-room mystery, which is usually what I like best, but the behaviour of the characters in their predicament was unnatural and inexplicable!
All the characters are unlikeable, but that doesn't bother me on the whole. However, it does bother me when they start behaving irrationally and stupidly!
I’m not going to go into the story or plot as it’s probably best you go into it blind. This is my third book by this author and I’ve come to the conclusion that I may not be this author's target reader.
I’m still giving it 3 stars because the writing style was good and the idea behind the story was promising.
Compelling, Immersive..
New Years Eve, a luxury yacht in a beautiful Italian harbour, a party. Sounds idyllic? Think again. When things do not go according to plan at the party, that chaos was indeed bad enough - but the next morning when they realise that the yacht has been cut adrift, horror sets in. Then, someone goes missing. The first one. As things go from bad to worse, they may well wonder who will survive. A tense and menacing novel of suspense with a propulsive plot heaving with tension and twists galore and populated with a deftly drawn and often appallingly unpleasant and unlikeable cast of characters. Compelling and immersive.
It is hard to write a review for this book because it was so boring, all I want to write is boring, boring, boring, so I think I will leave this as my review.
I know this author is very popular, but this is the second book I have read by her and I won't be reading anymore. Its too bad because I like the premises (Stranded, the Resort) but cannot get pass that writing style.
What a book to start 2024 with and what a fantastic read it was too.
I was gripped from the very first pages and didn’t want to put it down. I really liked Hannah and was rooting for her the whole way. She’s the odd one out on the luxury yacht, with her life long friends more affluent than she will ever be and their partners hating her, hating her for being so beneath them.
Every page was full of dilemma and disaster as they floated in the middle of the ocean with no sign of hope of rescue. Everyone turning against each other and secrets coming to the surface.
I did feel the ending was a bit rushed though, but overall I was enthralled with the plot and characters. Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the ARC in return for an honest review.
I was absolutely gripped straight away by this book, just as I have been with every Sarah Goodwin book I have previously read, definitely recommended.
I couldn't put this down!! I loved this book. I felt so sorry for Hannah as her 'friends' were pretty awful to her. If I'd of been her I think I would of left immediately - however, that wouldn't have made such a good book!!
You could almost tell as you were reading the beginning that everything seemed a little bit too good to be true and there was some scenes that seemed quite inconsequential however were quite significant as the story developed.
I loved the way that this story unfolded and at times could not believe what I was reading, some of our characters had no empathy and no sense it seemed! The cabin fever seemed to set in very quickly for some of the guests onboard the yacht.
I thought that the storyline was brilliant and it was really well written, I loved how it wasn't easy to guess who was responsible for what and thought that the ending was brilliant too.
Everyone dreams of spendig New Year on a luxurious yacht, partying and sorrunded by breathtaking ocean for miles around. Well, after reading this book not anymore.
Sarah Goodwin's latest novel presents a modern twist on the classic 'locked room mystery,' taking place on the open sea which revolves around Hannah, who, despite feeling inferior to her more affluent and successful friends Libby and Maggie, decides to join them on a yacht in Italy for a New Year's Eve celebration with their husbands. However, the story takes a dramatic turn when Hannah, fed up with her so-called friends' disparaging comments, attempts to leave but discovers that the yacht has drifted away from its moorings, leaving them stranded at sea with no means of communication with the shore.
Goodwin waves a tale of lies, deceit, condescension, and confusion, with Hannah emerging as the resilient central character. The novel delves into the true essence of genuine friendship versus entitlement, highlighting the values that truly matter.
Despite the mostly unlikeable nature of the characters, the novel captivates readers with its masterful execution and exploration of the intricacies of human relationships. The story prompts reflection on the authentic qualities of friendship and the consequences of mere entitlement.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing the opportunity to read ARC.
This had the potentially to be highly entertaining; however, so much time was spent showing how shallow and awful the characters were that the plot went to the wayside. The characters were just too toxic to carry a believable story. Thanks to NetGalley for a chance to read and review this book.
Thank you to Avon Books and Netgalley for providing me with the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second ARC I've read from Sarah Goodwin and I'm yet to be disappointed! Each character will have you questioning if you can trust them in equal measure and what their intentions are throughout the books. It keeps you gripped on how they will handle the situations they find themselves in.
The constant suspense and twists keep you going right to the very end! I couldn't wait to find out what happened and when I did, I wasn't expecting it which made this even better!!
Overall, an absolute cracker of a book and I can't wait to read more of Sarah's work!
