Rule of the Aurora King is the second book in the Artefacts of Ouranos series, and it’s an absolute thrill ride from start to finish! This installment is brimming with pulse-pounding action, steamy romance, and mesmerizing fae magic.

In this book, Lor finds herself under the watchful eye of Nadir, the Aurora Prince, after breaking free from the Sun King’s clutches. The chemistry between them is electric, and while their romance is a slowwwwwww burn, it had me absolutely hooked. I particularly loved the first-person POV from Nadir that we got this book—it added so much depth to his character and made me fall for him even more.

As Lor and Nadir team up on a quest that’s crucial to both their futures, it’s amazing to see Lor begin to open up and trust. The stakes are high, and the journey is filled with twists and turns that kept me hooked. The story’s depth and the evolving relationships made me dive straight into the third book—I just couldn’t get enough!

If you’re into intense fantasy with a sizzling romance and a captivating plot, this series is a must-read. I’m completely hooked and can’t wait to see where it goes next!

Overall, I found this series predictable but a fun spicy time. I recommend it. It was a fun popcorn read. I didn't like the way Lor was first person and Nadir was second person, and that Nadir's chapters were referred to in past tense. That was a little hard to read.

Thank you netgalley for the wonderful opportunity to read this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Why is this series so good! I’m hooked and I can’t get enough. Watching Lor come into her own and also circle madly around Nadir is a TREAT.

Rule of the Aurora King by Nisha J. Tuli had well-developed characters and a plot that was engaging. This book was a great read. I highly recommend!

I jumped right into Rule of the Aurora King after finishing Trial of the Sun Queen. Lor rejected Atlas, the Sun King, and was thrown in the dungeon. But Nadir came to rescue her and held her prisoner himself until he could figure out what his father wanted with her. That's where we pick up. Lor refused to talk until Nadir brought her Tristan and Willow. And that's where things start.

I was almost immediately annoyed that Nadir and Gabriel's behavior toward Lor was similar. Gabriel used to call her Tribute as a means of putting her in her place, and Nadir called her Inmate. Maybe this is meant to be funny or attractive in the bad-boy sense. But I think it's the author trying to make Lor stand up for herself.

Lor and Nadir are at a standoff. He finally gives a little by bringing Tristan and Willow to her and so she decides to trust him with some of her secrets. She is the long-lost descendant of the ruined Heart Queendom. The three siblings have been hiding their Fae bodies by appearing human. Willow only has enough magic to do that, but Tristan has a little more. Lor has a lot of magic, but it's locked deep inside her. She can no longer access it. She can still feel it, and it responds to Nadir in a way that no one else has ever triggered in her. That leads me to believe the two might be mates, but none of that is revealed in this book.

Regardless, Nadir and Lor share a common enemy: Rion, the Aurora King, Nadir's father. Nadir hates him for being a terrible ruler and most of all for the trauma and abuse he's put Nadir's mother through leaving her a shell of herself. Lor hates him because he killed her parents and had her and her siblings thrown into prison as children and everything they have suffered since has been his fault. He also abused Lor to get her to reveal her magic to him...which she did not.

But that reminds me, Lor blames Nadir and Amaya, and basically anyone and everyone else, for the trauma that she experienced being in prison for no reason. She claims that Nadir doing nothing to stop the imprisonment of people who have done nothing wrong is unforgivable. She specifically states she can never forgive him for his part. This was starting to bug the snot out of me. You don't know what you don't know. And you can't be held accountable for something you don't know. You can't even ask the right questions when you don't know there are questions to be asked. How could he have known? Perhaps if he'd chanced upon the right question? But even still. We should all do the best we can with whatever information we have and when we know better then we can do better. But no one can be held accountable for what they don't know. This was a character flaw that I was beginning to think should be attributed to the author more than to the character.

Almost all of my highlights were frustrations or incongruencies I noticed. How can someone who has been locked in prison for twelve years and has fought over a bar of soap know how to do their own makeup? The random LGBTQ comments that weren't as common in this book, but still existed with zero plot enhancement. And what? Does the main character believe in socialism? Or should I say, does the author believe in socialism? That seems to be a common theme. How can anyone possibly be rich when they are poor people suffering? How can someone sleep in a soft bed when others don't have a bed at all? How can someone have jewels and go to parties when others are being tortured for no reason? It isn't the purpose of my book review to actually answer all of these questions, but I noted this as an annoyance. Also, she comments about Nadir needing to work through his issues by himself without offering him comfort when he needs it. Of course, we all are responsible for working out our own issues, but none of us exists in a vacuum. We can be plenty influenced (and helped...aka encouraged) by the comfort and a kind word from others whether they can empathize or not.

One of my biggest complaints about Trial of the Sun Queen is that Lor abruptly turned on Atlas after the last challenge. She did such a 180 from where she was that it felt jarring. She went from pursuing a relationship to "I never want to see you again." And she did the same thing with Nadir in Rule of the Aurora King. So maybe this is supposed to represent a character flaw...impulsiveness? But it feels more like a writing flaw--like a quick and easy way to create conflict or even conflict resolution. More polished writing could make the necessary transitions without feeling so jerky. It's like being a passenger in a car where the driver has never driven a manual transmission before. The shifts are jerky and rough, but an experienced driver can make the transitions between gears seamlessly so the passenger might not even notice what is happening.

I also have to note the trigger warnings. There's sexual assault and trauma--not specifically written on the page, but implied and discussed in the past tense. There's also physical abuse and trauma. Sexual content is present in the book, as well as quite a lot of language. And I already mentioned the random LGBTQ scenes that were brief but unnecessary.

There's an additional narrator, Serce, who is Lor's grandmother. Her parts were interesting, although I can't say that I looked forward to reading any of her chapters.

All of that being said, I plan to continue the series to find out what's going to happen next. I want to find out if Nadir and Lor are mates as I'm predicting. I have enjoyed these two books and read them both quickly. But I don't think the writing is as smooth or polished as I would like. I had some glimpses of similarity to A Court of Thorns and Roses, but nowhere near the quality of writing as Sarah J Maas. Rule of the Aurora King gets 3.5 Stars. Have you read Rule of the Aurora King? What did you think? Let me know!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book! I read the first book in the series and immediately after, I knew I needed to read the second. This book had intrigue, romance, and revenge (trifecta in my head). It was somewhat of a slow start so it took me a little longer to really dive back in but when it did it was enjoyable. The main areas that I have critique for are the development of the characters and the overall pace of the book. I felt like this book was more romance and then plot, which is totally fine if that is your style of books. For me personally, I want a really fantastic plot and if romance is in there I will be thrilled! The main character showed some growth but It didn't seem to be enough after all that she's been through. I also felt like the main character always saying "I hate you" was super annoying, like just stop. Now on to the positives! I really enjoyed the introduction to a new setting, it felt so different than the previous setting in the last book. The world and the magical elements were really well thought out. I also love the inner turmoil of main character as she tries to harness her powers. The book ended on such a cliff hanger and I look forward to reading the next book in the series!

I don't know who I was before Lor and Nadir. I've become obsessed. I keep talking about them and sharing these books with my friends. As soon as I finished this one, I started the third book. I'm halfway through, and I'm not quite sure what I will do with myself when I finish that one because I know there are more coming, and now I have to wait. Please read these so I can talk about them with people!! It's the perfect romantasy!

I love the series but it’s not a good fit for my shop. That said, the world building, magic systems, and characters are all unique and enjoyable.

Excellent pacing, excellent characters! I can't get enough. I read most of this hefty book in one sitting because I always wanted just one more chapter. The second book in a series can be difficult but Tuli did an excellent job picking up book one and setting up the rest of the series!

I have heard nothing but great things about this book series. As I was creating a TBR list for ApollyCon, I was shocked to see that these books were available as "read now"! I instantly downloaded all three in this series.

“I am not his conquest. I am not his to claim. I am my own castle.” Freed from the golden clutches of the Sun King, Lor now finds herself in the hands of Nadir, the Aurora Prince. Convinced she’s hiding something, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make her talk. But Lor knows the value of secrets—she’s been keeping them her entire life—and she’s not letting hers go without a fight.
When Lor and Nadir team up to search for a lost item that holds the key to her past and her future, she isn’t sure she can trust him. All she knows is she won’t fall for another royal fae’s promises again.
With the Sun King determined to reclaim her, Lor must keep on the move, but nowhere is safe. Not until she destroys him and the Aurora King. But she soon learns that the future of Ouranos depends on much more than avenging her shattered legacy.

I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions are my own.

Rule of the Aurora King is a great read. Nisha delivers excellent character development, intriguing backstory for characters/world, and multiple character POV. Full of political intrigue, mystery, magic, and a torturous S-L-O-W burn you will find yourself flipping pages late into the night. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lor and Nadir and am eager to get my hands on the next book!!

This is the second book after Trial of the Sun Queen. I can't get over how much I loved this book. It was even better than the first! You learn so much more about the history and importance of the heart kingdom through flashbacks. While in the present there is some major angst, passion, and sleuthing going on between Lor and Nadir. Lor is an independent woman who had been through some stuff and Nadir is a prince who is used to getting what he wants. This romantasy had everything I wanted and more. It gets really good at the end and I couldn't stop reading. Definitely pick this series up! Onto the 3rd book!

What, and I cannot stress this enough, the fuck was with the nickname "inmate" KNOWING she was sexually assaulted in prison?

Do better.

This book was even better than book one! While I still thoroughly enjoyed book one, this one felt much more original. The slow burn was slowww and I ate it up. This was such a fun read! The ending set up book two perfectly and I’m so excited to dig into that one (SO grateful to have also received an ARC for that one because I need to read it pronto). While some moments still felt a little cliche or fanfic-y like book one, this book was definitely an improvement compared to book one! The pacing was good and while the story definitely focusses on the romance, the plot was still strong and much more unique than book one. So so excited for book two!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC!

Omg jaw on the floor was this book so much more intense than book 1. I just could not put it down and finished it in less than a day. This type of enemies to lovers is one of my favorite. Lot has so many difficult emotions and traumas that she has to sort through in this installment as she is racing to find the Heart Crown. She has the Aurora Prince breathing down her neck, her locked away power to unleash and 2 Kings trying to hunt her down. I again am enjoying the complexity to this world and its characters. This book included the 3rd POV from the past that really helped forward the story and give insight that the present day characters aren’t aware of. And in the last book I said I couldn’t wait to the enemies to lovers got to lovers, well it is not disappointing. However Lor has so much locked away trauma that it keeps getting in her way. Every time one mystery/problem is solved 2 more pop up in its place and I am enjoying every second of it. I am utterly invested in these characters and where the next book will take them.

Away from the Sun King, Lor finds herself in the hands of Nadir, the Aurora Prince. Making a tentative alliance, the two begin a quest to find an artifact from Lor’s past that might ensure her future. How do you find something that’s been lost for centuries? And what do you do when both the Sun King and Aurora King are looking for you?

This book was fast paced and I couldn’t put it down. I breezed through it in a few days because of the amount of action. That and the enemies to lovers, slow burn kept me reading until the end. The backstory within the story is also riveting. The world of Ouranos is an amazing place to be right now.

Rating: 4/5 ⭐️s - Action packed but this book reminds me why I love and hate slow burn, enemies to lovers romances. Ugh! I’m so glad I have the next book already.

Spice Rating: 4/5 🌶️s - Sex present in the backstory of Ouranos and lots of slow burn explicit moments that had me wanting to throw the book across the room.

Thank you Nisha J. Tuli, Forever, and NetGalley for the ARC! I’m so excited to read Fate of the Sun King next.

This is book 2 in the series.

This book is about a search for a lost treasure. We get to know a lot more about each of the characters and the sexual tension increases to a dangerous level. While there is spice it’s minor and the tension continues to build.

This book definitely gives me A Court of Mist and Fury vibes and Nadir reminds me more and more of everyone’s favorite high lord, Rhysand.
