I love that we’re given a Tamlin situation here with the dark anti-hero “saving” Lor from the Sun King at the end of the last book. The bickering and banter in the first 20 pages alone has the tension SKY-HIGH. I wanted a little more from this book after absolutely loving the first, but I’m definitely not giving up on the series. I still adore Lor and Nadir and am dying to find out what happens with the two of them.

There are additional POVs added to this book with the addition of Serce and Wolf’s history, and I know it is probably important for building the backstory and explaining some things, but I just didn’t feel a connection to them at all and was a bit bummed when their chapters came up.

We learn more about Lor’s history and find that she has buried magic, but I just wanted more. I’ll be impatiently waiting for the release of book three.

There is more spice in this book, but it is basically all between Wolf and Serce. We’ve got enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn, and I’m thinking a fated mates bond coming up.

I enjoyed this book more than the first. We really get to dive into the magic and the world they live in. Are there still some holes, yes, but I got enough answers for me to continue to enjoy it. I do wish we had left Aurora earlier but oh well. I also enjoyed the past chapters we got as they lent a lot of credence and information to the present. Lor and Nadir are obviously mates and are cute together because she doesn’t take any sh*t from him. Very strong willed but can have fun. I’m interested in why her magic is still locked up!

This book was a quick and easy read, and it intrigued me enough that I'll definitely be continuing the series.

However, I found this book to be really repetitive whenever either of our main characters were talking about each other romantically (which happened in some capacity in almost every chapter). It felt that it was trying to hit each and every popular trope too hard. We get it-- our MMC is possessive and and Lor hates him but also they are super attracted to each other. I did like the plot, when we got glimpses of it; I would've loved more of that and less of the romantic whiplash.

A really good sequel. Rule of the Aurora King built upon the first book, and i think, turned out better.
One thing i didn’t really like about Trial of the Sun Queen was that i barely got to know Nadir, even though there was an entire pov for him. But this book fixed that, and i really enjoyed him.
Thank you to Netgalley and Forever for allowing me to read this book.

The second book in the Artefacts of Ouranus series hits just as hard and fun as the first. I think I would have liked it to be just a bit longer to get to know the side characters a little more, though this time we get a better grip on Lor and Nadir. Mostly on Nadir. I feel like Lor is still holding in some secrets from the reader, which is fun. I enjoyed the intrigue within the flashbacks, and I super love how like, no one is really a "good guy" in this story. Morally Grey, morally nebulous, all the characters have got something going on. Especially the people in the flashbacks! There's spice, some world-building, devastation, a fight/battle, and a sort of mystery. Something for everyone!

Thanks to Netgalley and Forever for the e-ARC!

I read part of the first book so I can’t really read this one.

I can’t recommend.

I’m sure some would love this series but I can’t even get passed 30% of the the first book .

Gah the sexual tension between Lor and Nadir had me 🥵🥵 for most of the book. Nadir 100% was the star of this book. I enjoyed his broodiness, possessiveness and complete confidence that he was going to be with Lor. It's a no wonder she struggled to keep him at a distance 😂
Lor on the other hand was driving me a bit crazy with her annoying back and forth on her feelings towards Nadir. I need to add that the chair scene in this book was so damn 🔥🔥🔥 I may have reread it a few times and I definitely ran and signed up for the newsletter to read it from another POV 😂

Again some of the plot was a bit predictable, but the steamy angst between the MC's and the evolving plot around Lor's familial background kept me engaged and wanting more. I look forward to book 3 in the summer of 2024!

When I saw the second book, I just had to grab it!🔥🔥

We pick up right where book one ends the Aurora Prince took her. Then we jump back to 286 years ago and find out what happened in the queendom of heart.

I really enjoyed that we got a deeper picture of the story to know where it all went wrong and how things got up to the way they are now.

Serce was supposed to be arranged to marry the Sun king but she walked off and felt a connection with the Woodlands King named Wolf.

“And I am my own fucking castle.”

Yesss!🔥🔥🔥 This book was a great follow up and I’m obsessed with the series. I need the 3rd book now! This author is my top for the year.

"I want her like I want air and the magic that flows in my veins."

Rule of the Aurora King is the second novel adult fantasy romance series, Artefacts of Ouranos. Following immediately after the events of book one, we continue with Lor as she escaped the clutches of the Sun King, only to find her held by the Aurora Prince. Nadir knows she is hiding secrets that could change to tide of his secret rebellion and when the two find common ground they realize in order to get what they both want that have to give...yet nothing is safe as the Sun King is not ready to give up on finding Lor. As these two are drawn together, passions rises...as well as questions around the fate of Ouranos hidden in Lor's family history.

This book took what I loved from book one and just escalated to new heights! Lor continues to be this fierce rounded character with edges and weaknesses that balance and heighten her strength. Her loyalty to her family is powerful and her need to challenge helped keep every conversation moving and riveting.

Nadir starts out a little frustrating with his need to distance himself from Lor but as he begins to engage and find common ground his facade crumbles. With each vulnerable moment he reveals himself to be this fascinating character determined to avenge and protect his loved ones. I loved seeing him desperate for Lor at times.

I also want to highlight the other POV we get in this book from the past that gripped me. This character helps introduce lore but also is an equally powerful and strong. I loved how they refused to bow to those around them and the romance the builds in their journey...I want more!

This book does contain spice, much more than book one. I would say about a 3 spicy pepper out of 5 spicy peppers. While Nadir and Lor's relationship is more slow burn with an antagonist steamy slow burn the other POV is more fast burn for reason you will later discover. I liked the balance of romance as I felt I was getting all the romance I needed spread across the story. The romance in this book was perfection and so rewarding after book one...yet there is still so much to unpack!

"You're going to ruin me, too, Inmate...Lucky for you, we'll go down in the blaze together."

The world of Ouranos continues to be an enthralling world. I appreciated being able to explore more political machinations and gain more understanding of the Sun King. Add in the excellent lore building in the added POV I felt like I was gaining so much about this world in an effortless manner. Prepare to learn so much and be drawn in throughout.

The story itself is well paced with tension and angst throughout as the character struggle to trust and accept each other. The banter alone had me the entire time but the beautiful vulnerability in between was the cherry on top. I enjoyed the forced proximity this book enforced as we get to see these characters butt heads in all the best way alongside side characters that motivate them and five you so many good feelings. I will say the action part of this story is a bit slower burn but when it hits in the second act, I was drawn in. The ending alone has its teeth sunk in me.

Overall, this was an amazing sequel to follow up Trial of the Sun Queen . I love Lor and Nadir and seeing them in this ever growing and enthralling fantasy world mixed with delicious romance and lore has me so excited for book 3! I am eagerly awaiting its arrival!

This is a magnificent second book in a series. Laura finds herself caught between two kings who she’s not sure that either can be trusted. She’s running from the Sun King, who she no longer trust yet finds herself having to work with the aurora king who she also does not trust. The story is so fascinating and has so many twist interns and you never know who is on what side. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

This was the perfect sequel to the first! I loved the additional complexity and the new characters! The banter between the fmc and the mmc is amazing and the tension is perfect! Can’t wait for the continuation of the series!

On my reread of Rule of the Aurora King, I remembered exactly why I fell in absolute love with this book! It’s incredible and has so much I love going on! Lor starts this book out as a prisoner of sorts of Nadir, the Aurora Prince. He knows she’s important, and that his father and Atlas were born wanting her for some reason. He’s not sure exactly, but he has his suspicions. Lor refuses to tell him a thing, offering only to talk if he gets Willow and Triston out of Nostraza. With the deal struck, Lor is reunited with her brother and sister, and finally divulges to Nadir who they truly are. She is the Primary of Heart, and they are the last descendants of the once great kingdom. This knowledge is exactly what Nadir needed in his quest to stop his father. A powerful ally who can kill him, since the magic prevents him from doing so. Only Lor’s magic is locked up tight, setting them off on a quest to find the lost artefact of Heart, the crown, in the hopes in will unlock her magic.

Lor has been through a lot, and she keeps pushing herself to keep going, to not break down. After being betrayed by Atlas, she feels foolish and hardens her heart, refusing to let another man distract her from her true purpose. But Nadir isn’t just any man. The bond between them has their magic practically singing to the others, even with her magic behind a wall. The chemistry between them is explosive. The fighting and arguing fuel for the fire. The banter is perfection between them. They hit so many of the things I love between couples! And there’s the added complications. Nadir is not one to get attached, despite the fact he quickly becomes possessive over Lor. Lor refuses to let another man own her, and definitely not the Aurora Prince. His father killed her parents, tortured her, and left her and her siblings to rot in Nostraza. She has plenty of reasons to not want to get involved with the son of the man who left scars all over her. But Fate has other plans.

It’s so clear the two are mates, especially as the story of Serce, Primary of Heart and Lor’s grandmother who destroyed Heart— obliterating the magic in Ouranos for years, and Wolf, her grandfather and King of the Woodlands. The interweaving of these two stories is amazing. I loved getting glimpses into what really happened back then, and we’re definitely edging towards some dramatic reveals there! But the two of them were mates, so it outlines perfectly for us what is happening between Lor and Nadir that makes them both feel like something is pushing them together. Wanting to reach out to the other, unable to resist the other. But we also see the differences between the two couples. Serce was power hungry, and she decided she wanted to take over all of Ouranos. She was callous and uncaring about so many things. Wolf seemed kinder, but he also went along with the plans and had no problem killing countless people to make Serce Queen of Ouranos. But like Nadir, he is willing to do anything for his mate.

We also get the backstory on how they planned to combine the two artefacts so a Primary and a King could bond. Normally it isn’t done, and I suspect that is exactly what the Mirror was referring to in book 1. The artefacts don’t want what happened before to happen again. When Lor speaks with the Torch of Aurora, it warns her a relationship with Nadir could only end in ruin, just as the Mirror told her a bonding between her, a Primary, and Atlas, a King, was forbidden. But I have to imagine something is going to happen to change this. Lor may be convinced she cannot give her heart to Nadir, but her heart is his regardless. Just as his belongs to her. So there will have to be a way for these two to heal the wounds of the past and find a better way forward, together. I’m really looking forward to seeing this all play out. Though, I do wish Lor didn’t have what she thinks is all her fears confirmed. Taking the Torch’s words to mean Nadir will break her heart, as she’s unaware of the history the Torch knows.

But these words of warning is part of why Lor is so hot and cold with Nadir. He’s insistent that she will be his, and he’s not giving up. We get some great scenes with these two throughout the book. They have to go to the keep to search for the Crown, and Lor has to pretend to be his plaything. The scenes between them are both fun and hot, and lead to the best hate bj I’ve ever read! Their feelings grow a lot during this time, and we get so much development between them. Nadir is affected by Lor’s story and begins to question things he’d ignored before, like Nostraza and how people are treated there, ostensibly becoming a better future ruler in the process. They begin to open up to one another, giving each other secrets they haven’t told anyone else. When they are forced to leave, and take the search elsewhere, they find themselves in Heart.

The scene where the Crown was located was so intense. The way their magic wove together was wonderful. How Nadir explained so gently that her magic block was all her doing, that the torture she went through where she had to fight to hold her magic down had caused her to create this hard wall. It was so sweet! Heartbreaking, as well. And the confrontation with the Aurora King was just as amazing! How Lor instinctively broke through her block to save Nadir was just everything, and seeing her magic unleash was freaking incredible! You can see why everyone is after her with that much power. She so easily held back even the Aurora King, and she had no idea what she was even doing! When she gets control of her power and finally overcomes her block, she’ll be unstoppable. Especially with Nadir at her side.

I loved how Nisha kept finding ways to keep these two alone to further develop their relationship, but also had some great scenes with the group! I loved the chemistry between all of them. Amya is such an interesting character. As Nadir’s little sister, she’s trying to be the peacemaker between everyone. She and Willow, Lor’s sweet older sister who honestly acts like the younger sister, seem to have a budding romance that is just adorable. Triston, Lor’s elder brother, is the protector. He definitely sets his glare on Nadir, seeming to sense his intentions with his baby sister. They are hilarious together. The next book we’re headed back to Aphelion, and this time, the whole gang is coming! So I expect some great things with all of them together.

Especially with Lor and Nadir being in a weird spot. She had refused him when he called her his, freaking out about another man owning her. But she still can’t stay away from him. Nadir isn’t giving up either. And I suspect he’s going to make time to win her over. Their bond is too strong not to. And while he is beginning to understand the truth of that bond, Lor hasn’t quite grasped it yet. But I don’t know how this change in location will throw their relationship into turmoil. Atlas is still hunting for Lor, after all. And Nadir is banned from Aphelion. The Mirror told Lor to return though, and with the Aurora King hunting them too now, they don’t have many options. Still, I hope Lor is able to move past her trauma. For her own peace of mind, most importantly. But also so she can embrace the bond with Nadir as the beautiful and truly rare thing it is. Fate has plans for them. A destiny. And despite the artefacts opinions, the only way through is together.

I’m so curious to see if what we learned about Atlas will come into play in the next book, and based on the title, I’m thinking it will! We know he desperately needs Lor and her Primary magic. We also now know that he wasn’t the Primary. His brother was. And even if his brother died, he wasn’t next in line. The Mirror skipped him!! So…did he kill person after person to force it? Or find some other way? Did what Serce do affect it? I’m not sure, but he did mention not having full access to the magic, so I think he’s rigged it! He’s not the true King of Aphelion at all. And he needs Lor’s powers to continue the ruse. That’s just my suspicion as things stand now! But I seriously love how Nisha has woven all these threads together! Little mysteries here and there all making up this larger mystery of what happened all those years ago, and how things became the way they are today. Along with what Lor’s role is in this. And how her bond with Nadir will play a part.

I absolutely loved this book and I’m so, so glad I reread it! It has all the wonderful chemistry and banter and fun of a couple perfect for one another resisting their feelings and fighting against the other. Plus, Nisha truly knows how to edge a girl! The amount of times Lor c*nt blocked me is ridiculous frankly! Show me the smut!! Lor keeps cutting Nadir off just as it’s getting good! So I’m really looking forward to these two finally getting together! I can only imagine it will be as explosive as they themselves are! Plus there is so much to unravel in the next book, Fate of the Sun King. It definitely promises a wild time! There’s a 4th book as well that’s still untitled, and I’m so relieved it’s not going to be over! There’s still so much to for them to do. So much for Lor to overcome. Her past trauma especially. She has to overcome that to master her magic and embrace her bond with Nadir. Along with taking her spot as Queen of Heart (which I do hope is part of the 4th book’s title!).

I have so many thoughts and tbh most of them aren't great.
I'll start with the good. I actually like the story line. Is it predictable? Absolutely, but I'm a firm believer that predictable doesn't always mean bad.
Now for the bad stuff. Everything else.
I do not like a single character. If they all died I'd shrug my shoulders and move on. They're just so annoying that I cannot bring myself to care about them.
Lor is so weirdly self-aware of her trauma, and she keeps explaining how her behaviors are trauma responses to the audience. Her constant "I hate you" for no reason is giving me whiplash. I swear to god she's trying to gaslight me with the way she keeps talking about how she was fooled by the Sun King in the last book and that's why she can't bang it out with Nadir now. Like girl, I was there too. You literally spent the entire time talking about how it would be stupid to trust him and it was just sex, just like it was just sex with the random dude from the prison. Atlas tricked you (I guess? He was pretty clear about keeping his motivations secret though) but either way it had nothing at all to do with sex.
Also her trauma felt cringey? I know that's a terrible thing to say, but the way it was written / she talks about it it was just there for shock value, not to actually add anything to the plot.
Nadir is dumb as fucking rocks and doesn't deserve to run the kingdom any more than his dad. I'm all for a possessive MMC, but it was the added "without my permission" to the end of "no one else touches you" that gave me the biggest of icks. Is there an instance where you would grant someone permission to touch her?!
Their entire covert operation plan was doomed from the start. The didn't even give her a fake name. He almost got caught calling her inmate and STILL didn't think to stop using it. The king apparently tortured her for weeks and she's got a pretty distinct scar on her face, but they put no effort into her being subtle/hiding her AT ALL.
The romance was very meh. The two characters were just randomly mean to create this "enemies to lovers" tension instead of them having any real conflict. The conversations just didn't make any sense either. One minute she'd be telling him he's hot, and the next she'd be like "he can't know I find him attractive." Like, what?
To top it off, them "hiding" their fae selves because it was safer also makes no sense. It very clearly wasn't safer when they almost died multiple times and it wasn't even a thought.
I understand that the flashbacks are supposed to provide important context to the present day, but I could not bring myself to care about them. Serce seems like a power-hungry idiot, and I felt myself skimming through them. Maybe it was the pacing, but it just felt jarring to be ripped back and forth instead of helpful.

Rule of the Aurora King picks up right where Trial of the Sun Queen leaves off, as Lor has been rescued (or taken?!) from the dungeons of the Sun King. She finds herself back in The Aurora with none other than the Nadir, the Aurora Prince himself. Forced to team up on quest that might change both of their futures, they find themselves working side by side. But can they truly trust one another?

If you’ve read my review of the first book in this series, then you know that had I not had a review copy of both books one and two, I would not have continued reading. With this in mind, I started reading Rule of the Aurora King with great trepidation, which was sooo quickly put aside that I found myself absolutely laughing at myself at the quick 180. For as much as book one felt meh to me, Rule of the Aurora King captured me IMMEDIATELY. My man Nadir is fully in this one and all I can say is: YES!! A hot, broody, light-wielding fae prince? SAY LESS. The author also finally hooked me with our girl Lor and the banter between these two? YUP!! Gimme more! I read 60% of this book in a day and then was PISSED that the next day I was Thanksgiving and I could not cruise through the last 40% as quickly.

In the book we alternate timelines from present day with Lor and Nadir, and a second timeline in the past. I found myself not enjoying these flashbacks *quite* as much, but only because I was so throughly enjoying Lor and Nadir’s banter and tension that I didn’t want to be separated from them. In addition to the flashbacks, we again have dual POV… but with the MCs being in the same place this time (compared to book one where they are not). It was sooo fun to get each of their perspectives, especially Nadir’s. I just loooooved seeing how absolutely gone he was for his girl. Even when he doesn’t want to admit it himself.

If I had one piece of feedback, it would be that I didn’t love the pet name of “Inmate” and I wish the author had picked another or just not used one at all. I’ve seen other reviewers state this also gave them the ick, but while I didn’t love it, it didn’t tank the entire story for me. I would just insert a term I liked better in my head.

This series will ultimately be four books, so by the end of book two we still do not have all the answers, but we are moving in that direction. All in all, I enjoyed book two immensely more than book one and I am fully seated for books three and four!! A big, big thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

“To every woman who’s been told they’re too wild. Too impulsive. Too much. May you always stay that way.”

Lor has been released from the hold of the Sun King; however, now she finds herself in the hands of the Aurora Prince, Nadir. Nadir is convinced there’s more to Lor than she’s letting on, but Lor is desperate to hold onto her secrets. With a mutual enemy, Lor and Nadir agree to team up in order to locate the heart crown. However, they have to accomplish this while evading the Sun King and ensuring the Aurora King doesn’t discover Lor’s identity, which is no small task.

Tuli took the elements I loved in Trial of the Sun Queen and amped it up for Rule of the Aurora King. The found family is better, the banter is top notch, the anxiety is intense, and the slow burn romance is swoon worthy. I really enjoyed the budding friendship between Amya and Lor. I’m living for the interactions between Lor and Nadir just waiting for them to come to terms with what we all already know. However, Lor has been through so much at the hands of men, it makes sense that she is cautious and protective of her heart. My heart hurt for Lor as she revealed each piece of what she went through at the hands of the Aurora King and in the prison. I was blown away by the world building in this installment. Can someone send me to the Aurora kingdom once the current king is deposed? It seems like an absolutely stunning setting. I also really enjoyed the flashbacks to Serce’s POV. We learned tidbits about Serce almost destroying Ouranos, but it was altogether different to experience through Serce what motivated her decisions. Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and I can’t wait for the next book.

Rule of the Aurora King is the second book in the series and is an excellent follow along to the first book.

This book is somewhat of a slow burn but the tension is palpable and the romance is very enjoyable. The plot slowing down leaves room for lots of world building and additional side characters along with character growth. Through Serce’s POV we get a lot more background information and history of how things came to be.

If you enjoy fantasy books with world building, enemies to lovers trope, spicy romance, found family trope, diversity, multiple POV and dual timelines then this book has it all.

The book is left on a cliffhanger that perfectly makes way for book 3. The wait will be long but worth it! I am interested to see where these beloved characters end up.

Did I just devoured Book 1 & 2 in less than 3 days? YES,yes I did. I ATE THIS UP!! Add Nisha J. Tuli to the list of fantasy authors you MUST read at one point in your life.

Rule of the Aurora King storyline was mainly focus on the addicting relationship-dynamics of Nadir and Lor. This book gives us a better look into who LOR is, what she's been through and the continuous challenges she has to go through. It was the perfect slow pace- Character development that I love to see in a series that I HOPE is as long as possible because I am completely obsessed with the characters, the world, the Magic and obviously the Love Story.

I am impatiently waiting for book 3 .... meanwhile, I am jumping to read her standalone *TO KILL A KINGDOM*

4.5 stars!!

oh boy oh boy oh boy what a fantastic book 2 (notoriously my favorite in most series)

This book picks up (almost) right where Trial of the Sun Queen left off, with Lor kidnapped again- this time by the morally grey good guys as opposed to the fake sunshine bad guys! Nadir, his sister Amya, and best friend/guard Mael have successfully gotten Lor out of Aphelion and back into The Aurora with the hopes of using her to take down the Aurora King- but first, they need to find out who she really is- and if she's ready to let that secret out after years and years of burying her truth.

This book does enemies to lovers in SUCH a fun way that had me screaming at the book, highlighting segments with just "come on bbgirl" or "oh your magic likes him i WONDER WHY" as I giggled out loud. Through sneaking through castles under guise, on and off again feelings (and a lot of territorial fae nonsense), flying on aurora borealis colored magical wings, and talking to mysterious objects- this book hits all the high highs.

In addition to our heroine/morally grey hero/villain POVs, this time we get a bit of a history with an additional POV of Serce- the queen who broke the world (and just so happens to be Lor's grandma). It is so fun to get this additional timeline and see how history always does have a way of repeating itself- or is the lesson that we learn from history to not repeat the big mistakes of our ancestors? Only book 3 will be able to tell us and I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL JUNE!

Thank you to Nisha J Tuli and NetGalley for an opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to Netgalley for the arc! I am leaving my review voluntarily.

This book was SO good. The enemies to lovers was GIVINGGGG.

Once I got past the similarities to the handful of popular books out there… I really enjoyed it! It had just enough differences that helped keep the stories separate.

I absolutely love Nadir & Lor together!
