I absolutely loved this! Forbidden love is my one of my favorite tropes and the humor in this one made it extra good!! I hope there will be more in this "world".

Callum's whisked away to England when his many, many British relatives are removed from the line of succession, so now he's in. He's beyond his boundaries, both physically, and emotionally, when the most unlikely of people and he form a bond. Yes the Prime Minister Oliver and Callum seem to have become...something. But how can the new Crown Prince and the Prime Minister be together? Short answer - they can't. Or can they?

Oliver's never met anyone quite like Callum, the American who's shaking up the country. He's out of his depth trying to deal with the feelings Callum is causing in him, and knows there's nothing he can do about it. They cannot possibly be together, as the the monarchy is to be neutral on all things politics, and it doesn't get more political than being the PM now does it? Now he's facing a choice between being with the man he's fallen in love with, or guiding the country. The choice may be taken from him when something happens to make him realize who and what's really important.

Callum and Oliver are absolutely adorable. Callum's quirky and sweet, Oliver's commanding and a big teddy bear on the inside. Though their love is clearly forbidden, and it causes a bit of angst, there is a warmth surrounding them, infusing the story that I found irresistible. I haven't been reading royal romances lately, but reading this reminds me of why I do like them and the royal world that I, as an American, know nothing about but am fascinated by.

This was a delight! I really really loved this book! I love the whole concept of it!! Callum and Oliver are such fabulous characters and I love the time that it took to get to know them! The ridiculousness of this plot made me love it more but honestly.... I really actually have no idea who is 11th in line for the throne! Their bantering and wittyness was enjoyable as they both developed feelings! Sunshine and grumpy with forbidden love and age gap! Such a tasty treat with a sequel on the way that I am super excited for!

I love this book so much. It’s everything that Red White and Royal Blue wasn’t, in a good way. I will never be tired of reading about forbidden royal romances. Very much looking forward to the sequel.

I went into this having just read Red White and Royal Blue and watching the new film but tried really hard not to compare the two. It doesn't feel exactly the same as RWRB but still holds up if you go into it not comparing it too much.

I truly enjoyed the budding romance and was giggling along to the brilliant banter between Callum and Oliver. I really enjoyed this book and couldn't' put it down so highly highly recommend. there were a couple of mistypes but I was thoroughly enjoying the book and wasn't put off by this.

3.5 stars!

I love Jax Calder's writing. Seems like they are really taking off now, and I am so happy for that.

Now, I won't say this one was one of my favorites, but I did enjoy it for the most part. The writing style vibes with my own taste level, and I like the banter and the dialogue within the story. I did wish we had a bit more character background for the main characters, but all in all I enjoyed the romance! I will say though that I am now just figuring out that perhaps the royal thing in romances doesn't always do it for me. Good to know in the future,

Anyway, I would recommend this one for fans of romance and queer love stories!

ARC provided by NetGalley and Jax Calder, and I have given my honest review.

This is a 3.5 for me- I really enjoyed it, but there were some issues I just couldn't get past as a reader. I think it's a really fun book, perfect for fans of royal romance and queer romances.

I loved both main characters- though the age gap was a bit much for me. Not so much because the characters don't have chemistry, because they do, but because the life experience gap is so large. Oliver has been married and divorced, while Callum has never had a serious relationship. Callum isn't too young for him, per se, he's just has had so little happen in his life. I feel like they connect really well, and I liked their relationship, but I would have bought into it more if Callum had been a little older or Oliver a little younger. I know Prime Ministers aren't usually under forty, but we're already playing in the space so why can't we have fun here.

I really wanted more about Callum's upbringing. We get such a strong sense of Oliver and how he got to be who he is, what his values are. I feel like Callum's main emotional anchor is his dead mother, but we get so little of that. I wish there was more there, just to give us more context to his goofy sweet self. I really loved Callum as a character. He is a very sunshine-y guy, but he also genuinely just cares about people. I loved that, just having a character just unironically care and want to do right by people. I do think the pacing got bogged down a bit with the attending events and the ribbon cutting and the dinners, but it did do a good job of portraying Callum as himself, kind of a nerdy guy who happens to be crazy hot. I did feel like there was a missed opportunity here in terms of mental illness rep, because Callum read to me as being autistic or having some other neurodivergence. He's kind of manic pixie dreamboy-esque.

Lastly, I did not much care for the twist. I get it, it's not the person we expected to be sabotaging the monarchy, but it seemed so silly as a plan. Callum dies, then she also has to get her own brother out of the way- isn't that suspicious? It would make more sense to me if she was an anti-monarchist and plotting to make everyone look bad, rather than to kill Callum. I think her plan would have been a lot more successful that way.

What happens when the Prince of Wales falls in love with the Prime Minister?

Callum is living a fairly average life. He works in an insurance call centre, he’s going on (not so great) dates and just being a typical American. Until he gets swept away to England after he unexpectedly becomes the Prince of Wales.

An unlikely kinship brews between Callum and Oliver, the Prime Minister. Innocent messages of support turn into late-night chats—and unexpected feelings. But there’s one major problem. The royal family must remain politically neutral at all times.

Can love prevail? Or does England have to come first?

When I first picked this up, I thought to myself “oh, is this another Red, White and Royal Blue?” and yes, it has some similarities in the preface, which I know some people won’t be so happy with. However, Jax Calder had me hooked from page 1 and I could not put it down.

It had me laughing, it had my heart swelling and left me with that beautiful kind of hope that the falling-in-love stage brings.

Cannot recommend enough!!

This book was surprisingly good. I kind of assumed it'd be a knock off but it held up on it's own. I am already thinking about when the next time I can reread this is.

Thank you so much, NetGalley and Jax Calder, for the advance reader copy of The Unlikely Heir!

Where to begin? In three words: I loved it. This book had me laughing from page one, I fell in love with the characters falling in love with each other, the writing is beautiful and hilarious and heartbreaking and wholesome, and I've loved every minute of reading this book - even when it resulted in me going to work on only 4.5 hours of sleep because I stayed up so late reading!!

This book has a dual point of view and first person narration - two of my favourite things combined! Each chapter is titled with the narrator's name, so I didn't get confused about who was speaking. There is a twist near the end - which I did not predict or had any inkling that was coming! And it's a happily-ever-after story. With spicy scenes, just so you know.

I've left so many digital annotations of this book I can't even count them. I'll definitely get a physical copy to add to my collection of feel-good books!!

I did find a couple of errors in the ARC which have probably been picked up on already - on page 30, the word "up" is missing from a sentence that reads "I've never been referred to by my title growing, and it's definitely going to take some getting used to"; on page 48, an incorrectly placed apostrophe has resulted in "Nichola's" instead of "Nicholas'"; and on page 124, I found "Henry VII" when it should've been "VIII". That being said, 3 typos in an early copy of a book is hardly anything, and I've definitely read books with many more.

I read this book not long after reading Red, White & Royal Blue for the first time, and I was initially worried it would be too similar yet not live up to my latest 5 star read. In reality, I ended up not being able to put this book down. I constantly wanted to know what would happen next, and caught myself praying for a happy ending during parts where that seemed less likely to happen. This book stole my heart these last couple of days, and I would say it's a must-read for anyone who loves romance and comedy wrapped up in 314 pages of pure enjoyment! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars!

I absolutely loved this book! I loved how clever and creative it was. I felt like both protagonists were relatable and kept me interested the entire time. The plot had me laughing, tearing up and getting angry throughout the story. I am a sucker for a good love story and this one was fantastic. Thank you netgalley and publisher for the advanced review. Run and get this book, you will not be disappointed. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

First of all, thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for sharing a copy of this book with me.

As someone who loved every bit of Red, White and Royal Blue, the blurb instantly piqued my interest. Though, the royal/commoner pairing is where the similarity ends, for me. I saw a lot of mention of RWRB in other reviews, but I assure you, it is not a rip-off, which pleasantly surprised me.
Callum is a total sweetheart. He is sunshine personified. A breath of fresh air. Meanwhile, Oliver is a confident and driven man. Together, they are a good example of black cat x golden retriever pair. I loved reading their italic ‘oh’ moment when they realized their feelings up until the moment when they finally decided that they are ‘forever’.
Although, despite all the praises I have for this book, the pro-royalty sentiments kinda threw me off guard at times. The stances were shallow, if not a bit problematic. And I am not really on board with the whole plot twist.
Overall, I would recommend this book to everyone who loves a good forbidden romance, sprinkled with a bit of politics. A sunshine x serious pairing, and an age-gap one at that.

The Unlikely Heir is a sweet, age-gap romance with lots of political themes and a forbidden lovers dynamic that takes center stage. I thought it was pretty cute! I can see fans of Red, White & Royal Blue and Boyfriend Material really enjoying this one, especially with the inside jokes and text-flirting that I thought Jax Calder really excelled at.

This book clocks in at over 400 pages, and that excites me - I love when I can really hunker down with characters and feel their relationship build over time. I wish Oliver and Callum had more moments together in the first half, though - the first 150 or so pages really could've put more time into building their dynamic. I was starting to get a bit bored and felt the rare moments they actually were able to be in the same room together were far too short. When the forbidden romance is this forbidden, I think its beneficial to really milk the scenes they can realistically be near each other for all they're worth.

I really did appreciate how much love was put into Callum and Oliver's characters, I rooted for them and swooned throughout. Calder is an author that's going to be on my radar for sure, especially as the spin-off sequel The Unlikely Pair announced at the end sounds incredibly interesting - I will absolutely be picking it up!

Thank you to NetGalley and Jax Calder for providing me this ARC in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.

4/5 stars

This book gave me some RWRB vibes. Oliver is the prime minister and Callum is the unfortunate heir, Prince of Whales. It was an interesting yet predictable story. Even with that, I did enjoy this book.

Was this book good? No. Did I throughly enjoyed it? Absolutely. Partially because I was keeping a running guessing list of who this had been fanfic of before it was a published romance. Princess Diaries meets RWARB is an interesting concept, however, and it won me over. Getting into this was a bit of a drag until about a quarter of the way in when you really get into the romance. I got blindsided by the age gap though. And I just disagree with the premise that 11th in line to the throne is where you can get total anonymity. Prince Andrew's children are 10th and 11th in line to the throne and there is not a world where they are basically ungoogable. You can ask Siri who is 37th in line and it'll come up no sweat. I also found character introductions very telling instead of showing, which always turns me off. But where the author excels is the devotion when they stop fighting the love they feel. The looming threatening heartbreak. The end did once again decide to go absolutely batshit and made me pull up my list of insane shit about this book list but overall I really enjoyed this book even though I can't in good faith reccomend it.

Marvelous!
I was literally entralled from the very first page, and had trouble putting down Jax Calder's The Unlikely Heir. The characters, the story, the romance... everything about it was simply captivating.

I enjoyed the scene that Calder sets, both the prime minister's life as well as the royal family. Vivid descriptions of the buildings, the colorful folks who make up those worlds, and the activities in which they participate were fascinating.

All of Callum's facts and jokes were so amusing, and I adored Oliver's endless patience and devotion.

I was hoping that The Unlikely Pair was going to be a continuation of Oliver and Callum, but I think I'm just as glad to see it's about Toby and Harry. That should be a riot!

Thanks to Netgalley for this Arc, it was lovely and I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would!!

My baby Callum deserves all the love in the world and I was so happy for him that he finally found someone he didn’t have to change for and who accepted him just as quirky and random as he was.

🇬🇧BOOK REVIEW • THE UNLIKELY HEIR 🇺🇸

THE UNLIKELY HEIR, a Royal romance by Jax Calder is out now!

RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
SPICE: 🔥🔥

Okay, Jax Calder, I see you with your Princess Diaries and your Hugh Grant vibes; and I’m completely here for it. 👏There is nothing that will turn me into a pile of goo faster than a royal romance and the sweet slow-burn of this one just melted my heart. Callum and Oliver are made for each other and that instant connection they have just shines on every page.

Callum (an American) is 11th in line for the British throne until a family scandal knocks all the senior royals out of the running, and he becomes the Heir. Oliver is the openly gay, divorced British Prime minister that has to help the country navigate the Royal scandal. When the two men form an unlikely friendship that slowly turns to more, they have to fight for what they really want… each other.

Callum, bless his awkward little heart, is a California Golden boy with good looks but an offbeat personality, who struggles with the scrutiny of the press. Dang, I loved him, and wanted to protect him at all costs. Luckily Oliver felt the same. I really liked Oliver’s character as well. He was witty and smart, and he GOT Callum in a way few people seemed to.

Their relationship was so dang sweet, and watching it grow into something deep and meaningful was a delight. The ending was completely unexpected and a little crazy, but it played out like a movie in my mind, so I just suspended disbelief and enjoyed the ride. Because it definitely was a whole ride, but made a great conclusion to the book.

Things I loved were Oliver and Callum’s terrible jokes, how Oliver knew just how to support Callum, the way the Queen was portrayed, and the fact that both men were very committed to their positions and duty, but also loved each other fiercely.

If you enjoy MM Romance, need a fix of a forbidden royal relationship, and like age gaps, text banter, and a little bit of spice, then I definitely recommend reading this one.

Thanks Jax Calder Author and NetGalley for the ARC. My opinions are my own and my review is voluntary.

A great gay romance about two very different persons of public interest.

A new prince will be found because the royal family is in big trouble and he is not what the british empire expierenced.

Funny, lovely emotional.
Not very surprising if you know royal blue.

Have fun reading!

I absolutely loved this book. At first I wasn't sure about reading another royal romance, as I had just finished rereading RWARB again. I felt this book would be a let down after that. Let me tell you how thrilled I am to be wrong.

Callum is a klutzy and handsome California guy that has problems sticking with things. He changed his major in college numerous times and has a mediocre job at a call center he actually loves. His love life is dismal and his friends tease him way too much. A giant British mishap occurrs and Callum who was 11th in line for succession, is now in the number one spot.

Oliver is the current Prime Minister and he takes pity on new royal highness. He finds Callum's never ending offering of obscure facts to be, well charming. He admires his sunny personality and Oliver can't help being deeply attracted to the bumbling but kind young man.

Their mutual attraction grows but a member of royalty cannot be romantically linked with a government official. The two men felt like an authentic couple and it was heartbreaking hiw much they agonized over their choices1. Can they chose between love and duty?
Be prepared for a book you can't put down with a very surprising twist.

I highly recommend this story and cannot wait for the next book in the series. Happy reading. Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book for my reading pleasure.
