Chloe Liese does it again! This book was so swoon! I adored Rooney and Axel, and was so ready for their story after seeing glimpses of them in past books.
Axel is like a grumpy cinnamon roll. He is definitely more of a loner, and can tend to be kind of grumpy. However, the way he opens up to Rooney and completely melts for her is the absolute sweetest thing!
Rooney is definitely the sunshine to Axel’s grump, and she brought out the best side of him. Rooney also has a chronic illness, that I appreciated getting to learn more about. Axel was so sweet with her and would take such good care of her.
This was the sweetest slow burn, marriage of convenience story. It is also the perfect fall time read! I loved getting to be back in the Bergman family world with these characters!
Willa's best friend Rooney has been there for her through college soccer and going pro, navigating Willa's mother's death and her relationship with Ryder. Brought into the Bergman clan through her association with Willa, Rooney becomes an extended family member in her own right as he harbors a crush on quiet artist Axel. A spur of the moment kiss during a game of charades reveals he might like too, but it's not until she descends on the A-frame seeking refuge during a leave of absence from law school due to her IBS that they begin to actually get to know one another. Axel is working through an ASD diagnosis while Rooney is stunted from parents who didn't really love each other but stayed together for her sake, causing unintentional harm. Additionally, she's been keeping the severity of her IBS under cover, but if you're practically living with someone, it's hard to hide.
Of course, the A-frame is in need of repair, and Axel wants to take it on as a gift to his family, but he's currently broke and unable to paint to make money: his thoughts of Rooney are so consuming he can't paint anything but her, and those works of art are NOT for public consumption. However, an uncle has left him a small fortune contingent upon his marrying, and no sooner are the words out than Rooney is proposing. There's a quick backyard ceremony (witnessed by a lovely queer couple and their precocious child), the addition of a stray dog and kitten to the household, cooking lessons, a delightful busybody of a local shopkeeper, a suggestion of no-strings sex, the falling in love, and a third act breakup when Ax decides the relationship must have run it's course if Rooney has to return to her life to tie up loose ends. His man cub brothers make an appearance, with Ollie freshly grieving a broken heart and Viggo spouting words of wisdom from the romance novels he loves and proselytizes to everyone with a relationship issue.
Like other books in the series, the warm relationships are supported by humor, dramatic tension, longing, and finally: hot, consensual, spicy admissions (and demonstrations) of love, and details of chronic illness are shamelessly and realistically conveyed, managed, and accepted.
This series of romances focuses on a sprawling, imperfect, loving family and the friends and lovers they take into their fold. Most are loosely structured on classic romances and comedies, from Austen to Shakespeare... to Ted Lasso. The seven Bergman siblings live/work/play in SoCal (but spend time in the Pacific Northwest in their expanded A-frame family vacation home) and are of Swedish descent; geographical and cultural details beautifully round out the love stories. Each tale, edited and re-released by Berkley Romance with a bright, attractive cover, includes a preface from the author about her commitment to writing neurodivergent and chronically ill characters.
All of Liese's characters are portrayed with authenticity and sensitivity, and a recognition that no two people's lived experiences are alike. Gentle trigger warnings may be helpful for some readers. New bonus epilogues further the story, and sometimes help segue to the next; afterwards include more information, and often, each concludes with a sample chapter the next book in the series. Each chapter is told in alternating points of view, and each chapter in each book is prefaced with a song title/artist evocative of the mood, tone or subject of the chapter. All of the titles are cleverly pulled from a snip of dialogue spoken from one protagonist to the other at a pivotal moment.
I received a free, advance reader's review copy of #WithYouForever from #NetGalley.
v grateful for another bergman brothers book popping up on my @netgalley right when i needed a happy, lovey dovey distraction 🥺
i keep thinking i can’t possibly love another bergman couple more, and then I DO. axel and rooney got me gooood 😍 and i truly can’t say it enough— the way @chloe_liese writes real characters with disabilities and differences is IMPECCABLE and so important. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 will forever be hyping these books up and thanking @laurenlovesto for introducing me to them!
I have absolutely adored all of the Bergman Brothers books thus far and With You Forever is no exception! What is not to love about this grumpy & sunshine marriage of convenience slow burn romance with ASD representation? Nothing. All of Liese’s books cover serious topics and they make you think about the bravery that is required to enter into a romantic relationship. However, With You Forever also packs a punch on the comedy front and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. This book is steamy and sweet, it is hilarious and it is heartfelt, but most of all, it is literary perfection. Liese proves that opposites attract… or maybe Axel and Rooney aren’t so different after all.
I’ve enjoyed the Bergman brothers series. This one for me fell short of the rest because the entire thing could have been solved with a simple “I like you.” When an entire book is founded on withholding feelings, it just makes it feel incredibly slow.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC.
First: I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS BOOK FOREVER!!!! I'm so excited. :D THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ. Seriously - I laughed so hard I cried, and I also just plain cried. Really hard. Until 5 in the morning...because this book is definitely a can't-get-enough-of-it, thinking-about-it-all-the-time, must-read-in-one-sitting type of book. I am also so flipping happy that I got both POV because this definitely wouldn't have been as good with just one POV.
The newest edition of "With You Forever" (full disclosure- this is my personal favorite of the Bergman Brothers series) contains a bonus epilogue that will treat Axel and Rooney fans to a glimpse of the time between Chapter 31 of "WYF" and Chapter 1 of "Everything for You" (Oliver and Gavin). Axel is completely, comfortably in love with his wife and the depth of emotion an depth of his feelings about his family. It's lovely and rounds out his character beautifully. New readers will love it. Established fans will devour it.
This was heartwarming, hilarious and just such a cute read! It gave me all the cozy feels and I fell in love with Rooney very fast, she’s amazing.
Opposites attract in this sweet and heart warming story that involves a marriage-of-convenience, a mischievous stray kitten and dog, some meddling family members, and a cozy getaway. Rooney Sullivan is the opposite of Axel Bergman, she's sunshine and he's quiet and brooding, she's extroverted and he's reserved, and yet both of them have been harboring a crush on one another since they first met but have been hiding it from one another. Rooney has been going through a rough patch with her health and leaving law school, she needs a quiet getaway so when her best friend offers her to stay in her boyfriend's cabin that was supposed to be empty Rooney takes her up on it... except it is very much not empty. Axel is the eldest Bergman brother and he's used to keeping his troubles from his family and with his A-frame getaway needing repairs and him being strapped for money, he refuses to ask his family for help... there is however a solution. Axel's uncle left him an inheritance, but the only way to access it is if Axel is married. When Rooney appears in front of Axel needing to use the A-frame he offers her to stay in his house instead, and Rooney hearing about Axel's problem offers to be his wife for one year.... yet both Axel and Rooney's feelings for each other is getting harder and harder to hide as they live together and begin to act like the marriage is real. Can they tell each other their feelings and finally make this marriage real? Or was it just a fake one all along? This was such a cute story and I adored Rooney and Axel's love story. They are both so in love with each other and want to help the other as much as possible and it was just so sweet. It was another great Bergman brother book and I look forward to reading the next one!
*Thanks Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group, Berkley for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
Chloe writes romances reflecting her belief that everyone deserves a love story. However; one of my fav things about them is how her stories always are punched pack of heat, heart, and humor. I love this story so freaking much. It's the total package of flawed, relatable and absolutely lovable characters.
trigger warnings: chronic illness, sexual content, autism related triggers, abandoned animals, artist's block,
I have been waiting on a romance series that will put me in a chokehold a la Bridgertons but like /better/ and here we have it. Something about sibling dynamics throughout romance series where you get to anticipate future siblings finding their HEA and also seeing snippets of elder siblings living their loving HEA lives just UGHHHHH hits the spot.
Axel and Rooney were just chefs kiss. The marriage of convenience, there's only one bet, grumpy and sunshine, pet loving, smushy gushy idiots in love shit is jist SEfkjdhrgkjshelrgehrlg. It's really not something I can put into articulate words so y'all just gotta read it and join me in my cry fest of these soft baby Bergmans.
