I enjoyed this book from the first page. I could relate to the social nuances of the story. It was a truthful telling of society’s reaction when a white woman turns up missing. It was especially telling of who is the initial suspect. The author did an excellent job on that. Ms. Garrett also did an awesome job contrasting Adore and Bre. I loved their backstory. I enjoyed how she slowly revealed their history and it was a kick to the gut. However, I was appreciative to how strong their sisterhood remained! I wish more narratives were this way.

Ty and Bre head to New York for what was supposed to be a first time romantic getaway in an amazing rental, however Ty is busy working his life away and Bre is often left to her own devices and thoughts. Fast forward A local by the name of Janelle is missing, Ty is missing and Bre is believed to a be a suspect? Did she do it? Where is Ty, did he do it? What happened to Janelle?
I really wanted to love this story and to be honest there were a few moments that peeked my interest and kept me turning the page but then I would end up slightly disappointed.
I do think the story line is good but I think I found this one, personally at the wrong time as when I read I am looking to get away from our everyday occurrences/everyday reality. I am by no means a literary critic so take this with a grain if these type of stories interest you, and let me say again it did capture my attention at times just struggled to maintain it. I do plan to listen to this one once it’s available on audio as I feel it might change my opinion.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this experience and granting me the ability to dive in early!

A missing boyfriend and a dead body at their AirBnB in NYC...loved the protagonist as she attempts to solve both. Some important messages regarding racial profiling - both for victims as well as our crime fighter! Will look for more by this author.

Breanna Wright has numerous problems in her life. There's an overbearing mother, secrets in her past that she wants to keep in the dark and everything that comes with being a black woman in America. One thing she knows she can rely on, however, is the love of her life, her new boyfriend, Tyler Franklin (Ty to Breanna and his friends). Well, at least she can rely on him when he's not neck-deep in his work (which is most of the time). Despite it all, she tries her best to have a good vacation in New Jersey with him to decompress and let loose. Despite a few bumps here and there they have a nice time until on the last day of her vacation she wakes up alone and when she goes downstairs, she's horrified to see a dead woman at the base of the stairs. A dead white woman. What's worse is that Ty is nowhere to be found. What follows is a whirlwind of interviews, rampant social media usage, a reconnection with an old friend, and a singular burning question for Breanna, did Ty do it?
This book was an adventure from beginning to end. The pacing at the start feels a little bit slow but ramps up after the discovery of the body. The characters are well-written and the author does a wonderful job of painting a scene with just her words. The usage of TikTok "videos" to move the narrative along is an interesting and fairly unique touch. Seeing how the posting and reactions of the characters to the social media postings versus the news postings draws a parallel to how society in the real world actually reacts to big events, which is not always for the best.
Overall I give the book a 5/5 and wholeheartedly recommend it for a read.

Missing White Woman was the first novel I've read by Kellye Garrett and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The title was what gripped me, in addition to seeing some of my other favorite authors sing the book's praises online. I loved the flip of the story of a Missing White Woman being told from the perspective of a Black Woman caught in the center of the mystery as it unfolds. I loved the friendship, warmth and redemption angle of the central friendship as well. The plot was twisty enough and engaging that it kept me guessing until close to the end of the book. Five stars, absolutely recommmend.

“Missing White Woman” is a fun and compulsive mystery, that keeps the reader second guessing all the way to the end. I specifically enjoyed the social media aspect of it, with the commentary that the “herd mentality” can be just as antagonistic as any other crime novel villain.

What a story...missing boyfriend and a dead woman's body in their AirBnb in NYC! Loved the protagonist as she tries to figure this one out!

Kellye Garrett does it again. Another captivating mystery that follows Breanna, whose dream getaway weekend with her boyfriend turns into a nightmare. On their last day, Breanna comes into the kitchen of the rowhouse AirBNB they're staying at to find the body of the woman all of Instagram and TikTok are looking for. And Bree's boyfriend is MIA. Soon she's pulled into the investigation, and can only turn to the last person she'd ever imagined helping her. Examining the phenomenon of missing white women syndrome, where the search for answers takes over social media and the news, often with misleading threads, Garrett is masterful at weaving social critique into her mysteries while still making them page turners.

In the midst of what was meant to be a romantic escape to New York City, Bree finds herself in an unexpected nightmare. Her new boyfriend Ty has arranged their first getaway, with promises of luxury and romance. However, her world unravels when Ty goes missing, leaving behind a mysterious deceased woman in their rented Jersey City rowhouse—an individual the entire online community is fixated on, Janelle Beckett.
As the police and a wave of internet detectives delve into the perplexing situation, Bree grapples with unanswerable questions. Faced with the urgency to locate Ty and safeguard her own concealed truths, she realizes her only confidant is her ex-best friend—a lawyer with whom she shares a complex and tangled history. The quest for truth unfolds in a gripping tale of suspense and buried secrets.
Garrett does a great job of using this story as an instrument in social commentary on how the media becomes obsessed with cases of missing white women, yet ignores stories of black women and other marginalized groups. I also appreciated how it highlighted ways in which the internet can be a useful tool in solving a crime, but also how it can hinder investigations.
Thank you to Mulholland Books and NetGalley for access to this advanced copy.

I felt like some of the writing was a little clunky and expository for a mystery/thriller-type book but I liked the set up of a dream vacation turned missing person and murder. The "Missing White Woman" aspect made it seem very topical and current. I think the author's next book might be even better.

“The truth is never skin deep.”
Personal review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Woah, binge worthy and page turning! I finished this mostly in one sitting because I needed to know what was going on! Waking up during a romantic vacation to NYC to a dead body and missing partner was an awesome start to this novel, and you will not guess the plot twist! The main character, Bree, is relatable and unforgettable, in this fantastic, suspenseful thriller.
Synopsis: It was supposed to be a romantic getaway weekend in New York City. Breanna’s new boyfriend, Ty, took care of everything—the train tickets, the dinner reservations, the rented four-story luxury rowhouse in Jersey City with a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline.
But when Bree comes downstairs their final morning, Ty is nowhere to be found and there’s a stranger dead in the foyer—the missing woman the entire Internet has become obsessed with: Janelle Beckett. Soon, both the police and an army of Internet sleuths are asking questions Bree doesn't know how to answer. Desperate to find Ty and to keep her own secrets buried, Bree realizes there’s only one person she can turn to: her ex-best friend, a lawyer with whom she shares a very complicated past.

Loved this book! It had me sucked in from the first page.
I always try to figure out the twists before they hit, but the main one at the end of the book was not one I had suspected!
Although I got a little frustrated with Bree a few times, I liked all the characters and the plot was well done and very current. I finished this book last night but today was ready to pick up the book and find out what’s going on with Bree next…only to remember I already finished this.
I’ll be watching for more from this author.

Loved the book! I find it ironic that the author has written for Cold Case before because it is literally my favorite crime show. I appreciated how the book showed the effect social media can have on crime investigations, the good and the bad. The twists and turns of the story were done really well, and I enjoyed the length of the book because it told a story without it being long and drawn out.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. Let me just say, that ending was satisfactory, minus Billie getting away with it. Poor Ty. He really was innocent and got roped up with the wrong kind of white girl. And Breanna went through hell trying to prove her innocence and Ty’s. Idt I would ever forgive Adore for what she did. Yeah she tried to help Breanna, but the damage was done. I have seen many people talking about this book and I am glad they weren’t lying. This was sooooo good.

I thought this was a really good book about a young couple on a romantic getaway that goes south quickly! They got swept up in a social media true crime craze. This was a page turner for sure! I was hoping for a happier ending, but it was full of twists!
I received an advanced copy through Netgalley, but all thoughts are my own.

I really enjoyed this read. I can’t wait to get my hands on the physical copy. I feel everyone will enjoy the suspense within this book.

I really enjoyed Missing White Woman. It took a bit form it to get started for me, but once it did it really kept me enthralled.
There were plenty of twists to keep me interested and I never really figured out what was really happening until the MC did.
I really, really liked how the author incorporated the use of social media. It really shows how manipulative it can be, how people will believe anything an influencer says and how it can ruin lives.
The only thing that bothered me a little was that the ending felt very rushed to me. I felt like I was missing somethings. Maybe I just didn’t pay enough attention, but it felt it ended abruptly.
I did enjoy it a lot and give it 4.5 stars.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read Missing White Woman

The writing felt very immature (in terms of language used, content the characters focused on, grammar) and the ending was disappointing, but the plot was really interesting. I couldn’t put it down. Really great premise. Would I read another novel by this author? No. But I think I would recommend it to people. It kind of gave the same vibes as “When No One Is Watching” by Alyssa Cole.

From the first chapter, Garrett had me engrossed and gripped by this twisty but intimate murder mystery. Bree is a strong willed Black woman caught up in a mess decidedly not of her making, but sadly this is not the first time that has happened to her. Overcoming her past and figuring out how to navigate her way out of this current mess forms the bulk of the story. While Garrett created a terrific back story for her protagonist, she keeps the tension and the mystery pulsing. Highly recommend for mystery readers. Thanks NetGalley and Mulholland Books for the e-ARC.

I loved this book. The slow burn, the whodunnit mystery/thriller vibes. The many questionable characters add to the story.
Great set up with the plot and hands down my favorite Kellye Garrett book to date.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
