The title really is beautiful and so is the concept of this book. Stephanie Parent has compiled a collection of poems inspired by the fairytales that you and I have been reading about since we were kids. It was beautifully nostalgic.

Very well written. Minimalist. Well written
This covers so many important topics. Reading this poem book is empowering yet heartbreaking at the same time. Down to earth writing. I’m still quite new at reading poetry but absolutely loved this. All of them being based o. fairytales made them so much more interesting.
The title was what drew me in, but I was hooked on this project from the foreword and knew I would love it when I read the second poem “Into the Forest”. I absolutely loved the way the author weaves fairy tales with our reality, the way the female figures of these tales are given voices and center stage.
However, I found the poems themselves irregular. I appreciated the fact that the stories that inspired the poems were mentioned so I could look them up before reading the page, but the poems linked with existing stories didn’t move me much, even though I enjoyed the discourse on the condition of women.. They felt quite at odds with the ones that showed a more general reflection because those often had parts that gave me goosebumps and had me obsessed. “Into the Forest”, “Strange Creatures”, “Enchanted Castles” or “Uncaged” were among those.
I was very happy to have been able to read this collection as the author was unknown to me, and I will follow the rest of her work with great interest.
Thank you Netgalley and Stephanie Parent for the ARC.
The title really is beautiful and so is the concept of this book. Stephanie Parent has compiled a collection of poems inspired from the fairytales which you and me, we readers have been reading about since we were kids. Snow white and seven dwarfs, red riding hood and so many more.
Although I loved parts of it, it somehow failed to impress me. Few of the poems I liked but most I couldn't. They didn't make sense to me. Those which I knew about were enjoyable but those which I didn't know about, I couldn't make head or tail of it.
Maybe this was my failure to understand. I will recommend it to those who enjoy reading about fairy tales.
(3.5 stars) I love the premise of this collection! Poetry inspired by fantastical elements and fairy tales is very much the kind of poetry collection I am craving!
The poems that I connected most with were definitely those that attributed themes or characters from fairy tales and put them into a nee context. For example, highlighting the unfair ways that women are treated.
The ones that I wasn’t into as much were the poems that didn’t clearly link to any current experiences or themes but rather felt like a poetic retelling of the story.
These collection of fairytale poems are dark yet have enchanting imagery. Loved these!
Thank you to the author and the publisher for this arc through netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Dark poetry with fairy tale themes? SOLD. I thought this collection of poems was so haunting, compelling and beautiful. Under each title, the author included which fairy tale inspired the poem and while there were classics like Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel & Gretel, there were a few I hadn’t heard of and after reading the poems they inspired, I’m very interested to read the original tales. This collection is about women’s struggles such as identity, beauty and desires. It explores all the little things we keep hidden in ourselves. The imagery that was used in these poems was absolutely beautiful. I found myself highlighting something on almost every page. I related to many of the girls and women that were brought to life in this poems. The Question and The Answer were my two favorite poems, but I got something out of each one. Highly recommend this collection for fans of fairy tales and dark poetry.
Thank you to NetGalley and Querencia Press for a digital reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVE IT !
Im not found of poetry, I usueally found them too much or too complicated, using complicated words to say a simple thing. But it's not the case this time. I simply love each poem, remembering fairytales we all know but in a modern way. I questionned myself all along the book with the meaning of each story retold. And I loved that. (And please two last two ones ? Favs ones! I could print them and reread them each day!)
My question now is : When & where can I buy it for my French bookshop?!
As someone who loves fairy tales and dark poetry, this was such an amazing read! The imagery was beautifully written, and I had so much fun analyzing and feeling like I was a part of the scenery. I loved the variety of fair tales included and how the author listed the name of the tale below the poem's title. There were so many I haven't heard of that I now have a list of fairy tales to research outside this collection.
Although the author states you can read these without having read the original fairy tale, for some it's not the case and I did have to search for a few to get a better understanding of the poem. I know for some that may take away from the experience, but that was my only complaint. And as the author mentions, there is a piece of her in every poem, and it's so fun reading through them and seeing how she connects with each story.
Overall, I really enjoyed this collection and will be buying a physical copy when possible.
Thank you NetGalley and Querencia Press for the chance to read Every Poem a Potion, Every Song a Spell by Stephanie Parent.
Stephanie Parent has put together a collection perfect for fans of Nikita Gills. The fairytales she uses are incredibly interesting, and a throw back to some of the darker ones I hadn't thought about in forever,
However, I do feel like the author had more beautiful moments than she had poems, even if the overall narratives were interesting.

This is a beautiful collection of art.
Poetry inspired by childhood fairytales? So. Much. Yes!
Navigating through life is a challenge (especially being a woman) and with life comes pain, grief, despair, and having poetry that really connects to one's inner child through fairty tale retelling/adaptations but in an adult, modern way was magic.
Though it can be somewhat dark ( but let's me honest, the fairytales were written dark) it takes not away from the sheer beauty that is this collection of poems and solely helps one discover what's lurking behind or beneath their original read. Happy endings don't always come as easy as we hope, and hope sometimes is all we have.
The author embraced these stories, and made them her own by speaking them new through being true to her own modern day female experiences.
Fantastic, exciting, engaging, with beautiful evocative imagery. This book celebrates womanhood, with a particular emphasis on the tribulations that accompany it. Dark and angsty vibes. Superb storytelling that exists somewhere between the magic and brutality of fairy tales and real life.
This is a great collection of poetry. Contemplative, without being pretentious. Accessible, without being basic. Simple storytelling and deep metaphors.
I really enjoyed this book of poems. I liked that it took inspiration from fairy tales both well known and more obscure. This made me look up those stories and I love a book that makes me do some work. I did find the prose a little wooden in places, but I also highlighted several passages that really stuck with me. I'm excited to see where this poem goes!
This collection of poetry is a treasure! My love of poetry and fairytales in one book amazing book. I can’t wait to share this with all the women and girls I know. Little Red Hood is a favorite poem. I can’t wait to dive deeper into the other fairytales the poems were inspired by. This book gives you a little bit of history with classic tales as well.
