Two people who find themselves in different situations, come together with the help of ... Yes of course the Lyon's Den! Have really enjoyed this series.
He is back from war and finds the estate almost in ruins. Debt, selfish family and a need to dig out of his troubles.
She had been repressed and downtrodden by her family but finds the courage to reach out for love.
What could be better?
Miss Priscilla Taunton has struggled to make a new life for herself. Cilla needs a husband of good cheer and spotless reputation. To make that a reality, she’ll use her money, all of it, if necessary, to hire Mrs. Dove-Lyon—and ask for herself only one special reward. Captain Valerian Anderleigh has always won every battle. When Val returns home from the wars to assume his family’s title of Viscount Mannington, he meets challenges for which no battlefield prepared him. His estate is flooded. His stepmother and her two daughters spend every penny. His younger brother runs wild. Val will do anything to resurrect his family’s pride. Even enter the Lyon’s Den and assume a terrible burden. Surprisingly, marrying a lovely, lonely woman becomes not a challenge but a greater joy than he anticipated.
Another delightful story in this connected world. I loved both Val & Cilla & was totally invested in their journey to a HEA, it isn’t easy but two strong characters learn to give & take, yes they make mistakes but they learn & grow from them. A quick but delightful romances
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
He's de Broke, she's an heiress...
Val Anderleigh, the new Viscount de Broke is very broke. His younger brother lost 40 thousand gambling and is set to marry an unknown lady to pay off his debt. Val goes to extract his brother from this deal, but he's a terrible negotiator, as he ends up having to marry the lady himself (as he is a viscount) and throwing in his horse for good measure (which wasn't part of the original bargain, so he's terrible with money).
Priscilla :"Cila" Taunton was made to lack confidence and poise by her stepmothers, but she is wealthy. Hence the means to buy herself a hisband so she can have a child. They strike a deal and immediately, Val is into Cilla.
A quick read, novella length. Mrs. Dove-Lyon strikes again.
Thank you NetGalley for a fun read. Val has come home from the war to take the title he never thought he have. In going through some papers he finds an invitation for his cousin to attend the ball at the Lyon's Den. He goes not for any reason but just to see what goes on. In comes Pris who he hasn't seen since she was ten. Her step-father is selling her off to an old man because he needs the money. Val is drawn to her and when he hears her story he marries her that night to protect her from what is to happen. He knew her father and could not let this happen to her. The story is about them learning to live with each other and find love.
I found myself becoming emotionally entangled with the main characters as they faced the challenges facing them. Returning from a war that left him drained, Val discovers circumstances every bit as daunting as facing canons and war wounds. Drowning in debt, the situation gets worse when he discovers that his brother has brought him to the door of Mrs Bessie Dove-Lyon. Shocked, he finds that the widow knows more about his circumstances than he would have liked and her answer to his dilemma strips him of his remaining pride. Nevertheless, the bride that the Black Widow chose for him, proves to be exactly what he and his family need. Priscilla Taunton has learned the hard way to stand up for herself. Years of restraint and holding back have finally paid off, but that does not mean that she spurns marriage or the need to have someone to love. Despite the difference in their stations in life, Val and Cilla find middle ground, but not without trial and error. The novel comes to a lovely conclusion with both main characters realizing that their relationship is worth fighting for. I received a copy of this well-written novel as a gift from Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The Lyon's Den were one can gamble on almost anything and with hopes to avoid one Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon, the most scandalous matchmaker in London. The Lyons Perfect Mate brings together Priscilla and Val who both have scars from their past, Priscilla from a oppressive childhood and Val from the torment of the war, together they will journey and find happiness. Cerise Deland has a writing style that I really enjoy, she's filled the story with a great cast of characters, a story that is well-written, strong plot and great dialogue bring this read together perfectly.
Another great love story brought about by the matchings of Mrs. Dove-Lyon. I love how she manipulated Tom to get the actual match she wanted, which is not always the way it starts out. I love how none of the matches start out with both parties excited by the match but the end result has always been the same, a deep and abiding love match in the end. I loved Cilla and Val and his they come to compliment each other by the end of the story. Definitely worth reading.
I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.
What a cute, very low angst story. This story was just lovely. Sweet, kind, loving and all of the other beautiful adjectives. If you are looking for a short read that will make you smile, grin like a loon, and feel good this is the story for you.
Addicting!!! Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It draws you into the story instantly. It was an easy read, while still containing a complex story, and the descriptive writing is almost POETIC. I couldn't put it down.
“The Lyon’s Perfect Mate” by Cerise DeLand, part of the Lyon’s Den Interconnected Series, is my first Lyon’s Den read and my first novel written by this author. Viscount Mannington returns home from eight years of military service to the crown to a bankrupt estate, a stepmother and two stepsisters spending money he doesn’t have, and a brother who lost a sizable amount gambling in Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s establishment. The way out is marriage to a wealthy heiress within a week’s time. Although he recognizes his bride’s name he has not seen her in many years. Pricilla, “Cilla” Taunton, had a difficult upbringing involving a mother and two stepmothers. Her self-confidence and self-esteem were virtually nonexistent. After she inherited her father’s estate, she worked on improving herself. She was desirous of a husband and child, hence her foray to Mrs. Dove-Lyon. I did enjoy Val (Mannington) and Cilla’s story. At the beginning of their relationship they each needed something the other could provide so they chose to build a marriage on that premise. Val was always courteous and considerate towards Cilla. He was never really comfortable using Cilla’s money, but had no other options. Val took control of the household in an effort to turn things around. They made a good couple, their personalities went well together. They both enjoyed a steamy and passionate relationship in the marriage bed, which was well written into the story. The story centers around the money issues, Val is broke while his wife is extremely rich. Val’s pride starts getting in the way when he needs to spend funds to set his estate to right. When they have problems, it involves the money. I kept waiting for the story to expand from the basic premise, it did touch on his stepfamily, but again, they needed money for clothes for social events. Val’s brother, who was responsible for setting things in motion faded away, his young sister, mentioned by name, was nowhere to be found in the household. I read this story in one sitting as it is an easy read. The money issues were entirely believable. I do think there could have been more depth to the overall story, after all, Val was a soldier under Wellington, he was the second son, and he didn’t expect to inherit. Cilla’s childhood was traumatic but was virtually glossed over. After much though I decided to give this story 4 stars for what it did have. Val and Cilla reached their happy ever after after starting out as strangers, built their relationship slowly and carefully, and overcame their money issues. A very nice, short epilogue is included at the end giving the reader a taste of their life. I will give other Lyon’s Den books a try as well as books by Cerise DeLand. I received this book through NetGallery, my opinions are entirely my own.
This is a great series, and each one is different in their own way. All related by Mrs Bessie Dove-Lyon and a few of her main characters, but each writer has their own style of the HEA. This is the 2nd Cerise DeLand story I've read, and the first was "The Lyon's Share," another Lyon's Den Connected World. I loved the book, her writing style is simple and descriptive. You are givien the details to see what's happening on the page, feel their feelings, want theirs wants, but not over-run with details. Her steamy scenes are lovely, and not bawdy. You add in what's happening underneath her words. I highly recommend this book.
My favorite thoughts from her book:
H: "To gaze at her was a feast" / h response: "The rest of him was a starving girl's banquet of manliness."
I haven't read any of this series so it took me a bit to get the hang of some characters, I was intrigued by the concept of the story and enjoyed it to a point. I'm not prudish and have read many of the more amorous historical romances but I found the language jarring. Just a minor critique because I did enjoy the banter between the main characters and their path to love has some turns and twists. Overall a decent story. Thanks as always to Dragonblade publishers and Netgalley. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.
This is my kind of story! I love wallflowers who bloom to become strong women. Cilla is one such woman. I adored how she put her step=mother in her place after being bullied for so long. Val, a Captain home from the war, is entrenched in a war not of his own making-debt and disaster.. Of course, Mrs Dove-Lyon sees how they can help each other and makes sure they meet. I loved the arc of Cilla and Val’s blooming relationship and how they each grew up and matured. I was especially enraptured with the end of the story, getting a glimpse of their HEA. Great quick read!
I received this ARC copy for free and these are my own opinions
Cilla, a wealthy heiress with little confidence, decides she wants to wed and asks Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help. Val, home from the war, finds his inherited estate in dire need of money. Once married, they must work as a team to help each other navigate life. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
Delightful Romance Story.
Losing a fortune at Lady Dove Lyons Den can change many lives which is what happens in this wonderful story.
Val (who is too perfect to be true) has just inherited his title and is trying to save his inheritance which is nearly broke due to both of his deceased father and brothers debts. His younger brother has just lost a fortune at the Lyons den and now has a big debt to pay.
What happens if you have no money to pay the debt?
Well Mrs. Dove Lyon always has a deal to make.
Val and his younger brother will just have a talk with the lady to clear things up. Right?
The debt involves the sweet rich unwed Pricilla and from there this story took a very interesting turn to make this a heartfelt love story that is filled with passion, humor. solving one's problems and finding a treasured lasting love.
I truly enjoyed reading this book and the ending completed their lives to the fullest of rewards.
A woman who is strong and courageous enough to break free of the oppression she has been living in for years. A man trying to deal with the financial woes left him by members of his family. A debt that could be paid only by marriage between these two. The couple turns out to be perfect for each other but will love triumph over pride? Wonderful characters who are caring, supportive and honourable. Very good read.
I received an ARC from Netgalley and leaving my review voluntarily.
The Lyon's Perfect Mate is the latest installment in the long-lasting Lyon's Den series. I thought it was decent, if not overly exciting, story. FMC Cilla has lots of money, while MMC Val has none. Mrs. Dove-Lyon negotiates a marriage between the two. Both quickly develop feelings for the other (instalust for sure), but Val is overset by pride and Cilla her fear of replicating her parents' unhappy relationship. The story is not hugely dramatic, it just tells the tale of two people working through their issues to allow for love.
3.5 stars rounded to 4. Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade for a complimentary ARC of this title. The opinions herein are my own.
