Best Frenemies
Author: Max Monroe
Narrators: CJ Bloom and Alexander Cendese

Book - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5/5 stars
Narration ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3/5

Let me just say I absolutely loved this book!! I literally LOL multiple times while reading it, I also had a continuous smile plastered to my face. It was such a fun, and cute storyline. It was a contemporary Rom-Com filled with references of tropes (literal tropes, and it was hilarious) all the references are up to date and the sarcastic banter had me rolling. The chemistry between Mack and Katy was undeniable. The way they went from enemies to frenemies to so much more was such a delight. Their story is one you will not want to miss!

The narrators were sheer perfection. The way they captured the personalities of Mack and Katy was spot on. The dual POV, the narrator’s really did a great job bringing them to life. I even enjoyed when Alexander read as a female character as well when CJ read as a male, they both absolutely nailed it.

This was my first book by Max Monroe and the first time I have ever listened to Alexander Cendese and CJ Bloom, I can say it 100% will not be my last. I’ve already added some titles to my TBR.

Special thanks to Netgalley and Max Monroe for the gifted audiobook.

Audiobook Review

Max Monroe is one of my go to authors when I just want a little bit of funny with my schmut and this one just did not disappoint.
CJ Bloom as the uptight Katy is amazing; Alexander Cendese is perfect as man child Mack with his cartoony voice.

Three cheers for ‘Mack Attack’! I loved him. Forced proximity is one of my favourite tropes. I don’t think I would necessarily group this as enemies-to-lovers though because it was one-sided and her reasoning behind the ‘enemies’ designation was a bit weak to me, if you don’t like a noisy room – tell the staffing and have them move your classroom etc etc. I know she made some attempts to rectify the situation, but not really.

As with all Max Monroe books, there are some laugh-out-loud moments, and they are fun, spicy and entertaining. I do see why some may think the emotional depth and character development was lacking, but this is a fun vacation-fling-but-flows-into-real-life book, and I was here for it.

It was a tad cliché and predictable but was still entertaining.

Katy and Mack, her irritating co-worker, had both made the same mistake of booking the same house for their spring break vacation. The two of them were forced to share the same space, which initially led to a lot of anger and annoyance towards each other. However, as time passed, their feelings towards each other began to change, and their initial animosity turned into a passionate attraction.

Although the story may lack originality, it still manages to capture some cute and funny moments. However, certain parts of the story did feel forced and over the top, detracting from the overall enjoyment. All in all, an okay read.

If you're a fan of forced proximity, grumpy sunshine, and/or enemies-to-lovers, this might be for you.

***Thank you to NetGalley and Max Monroe for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***

I love listening to Max Monroe books. They’re always so much fun. This one was no different. Kept me very entertained and laughing throughout.

At first Katy’s character was a bit irritating but it was nice to see her growth through out the book. I loved Mack from the beginning. He gave me golden retriever vibe. I like how it wasn't insta love, they had a history together. The HEA and epilogue were so sweet, it was perfect.

I listened to this audio and it was good. The voice
of the FMC was amazing, but of course, it was CJ Bloom. For the MMC I had to get use to it. He isn’t my favorite but he grew on me.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the authors for providing me the audio to this book for my honest review.

I received this audiobook as an arc reader and I will say I highly appreciate the author I have read several of there previous books before but I had to DNF this book within 10% of it.
When it came to the narrators themselves the voices didnt match very well with the character as you would envision them in your head. MMC sounded very bro like and not appealing whatsoever even if he is suppose to be the sunshine of the book. The FMC right of the back really didnt give me a good first impression how B*tch* she seemed talking to her friend for bailing on her just not a great start to the book for my taste unfortunately.

This was my first book by this author and unfortunately it just wasn't really for me. I might have felt differently about the book if I had read it instead of listening to the audiobook.

I was not a fan of the male narrator. He was pretty loud and harsh sounding in his narration and his female voice was very distracting, which made me not want to listen to the book anymore.

This was so cute! I thoroughly enjoyed BEST FRENEMIES. The storyline was contemporary, brimming with up-to-date references that added a delightful touch. The witty dialogue, especially the sarcastic banter between Mack & Katie, had me laughing 😂 out loud. It was irresistibly cute, I found myself continuously eager to pick it up! The spice level was high, with a memorable bathtub 🛁 scene that added a steamy 🥵 twist.

Such a charming & funny read that perfectly balanced humor & romance.

I also caught the nod to ACCIDENTAL ATTACHMENT which I can’t wait to read soon!! This was my first read by Max Monroe & definitely won’t be my last!

Enjoyed the set-up of work rivals stuck together in a beach house on vacation. Struggled with the narrators' voices for the opposite characters.

Best Frenemies is a deliciously hilarious and spicy read! I could not stop laughing. I throughly enjoyed this book.

The characters, the flow of the story, the comedy , the spice and surprising ending made this book a 5 star read for me.

My only critic would be that sometimes the male narrator’s voice and his emphasis on certain words took me out of the story. He sounded more childish than how Mac was described.

This was an ok rom com. I felt like the vacation storyline resolved too quickly and I didn't enjoy the rest of the story as much due to some of the tropes.

I listened to this on audiobook and thought the female narrator did a great job. I didn't love the male narrator's portrayal of the femal FMC because it felt shrill or that he was making fun of her almost.

Overall, if you want a quick read this is fine and has a few good spicy scenes.

I will say - the mouth on the male main character kept this from being 2 stars. Mac Houston can give me dirty talk any time!

4.5⭐️ 3.5🌶️

Just when I think, I can’t love Max Monroe anymore, they give me a book with that has Thatcher Kelly’s cousin Mack. I thoroughly laughed my ass off during this entire book. the antics the banter, the spice checked all my boxes.

The narration was on point, the story was hilarious, and I absolutely love the characters, Mac and Katie. Katie is super type A (a girl after my own heart) while Max is as laidback as they come with serious golden retriever energy and a side of dirty talk. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes then add in forced proximity with your sexy work nemesis who might accidentally see you naked and I cackled my way through this book.

This book had everything I love about Max Monroe and is one of my top 5 favorite of their books.

Thankyou for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I didn’t have any expectations for this book, having never read from this author before, but as soon as listening to the authors note I knew I was in for a good time.

Best Frenemies was a checklist of tropes;
Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, only one bed, he falls first, and then a couple of spoiler tropes. Was it cliche? Maybe, but I still was absolutely stupid grinning through it.

It was a witty, entertaining, easy read. The MMC, Mack, was honestly such a likeable good guy that I have no idea why the MFC, Katy hated him so thoroughly. Yes he was chaos to her organised but that’s really no reason to write off an entire person so completely.

As much as I enjoyed Katy, it was mostly just a story about her pulling her head out of her ass for a guy that’s been an utter gentleman to who, with some good natured ribbing thrown in for fun. It was definitely a one sided ‘enemy’ situation.

I loved the author style and humour, and the narrators were really easy to listen to. The only voice I didn’t like was the male narrators take on Katy’s dad, but other than that great job!

Best Frenemies was a “never quit” comedy, with line after line of funny banter. It was also a lighthearted story that fulfilled all the angst over the MCs attraction toward one another, while also giving the reader a safe, relaxing story to easily fall into. It was exactly what I needed, when I needed it, lighthearted and funny.

If you like a romcom that is jam packed with funny lines, this story is for you! Also, the characters are very relatable and lovable.

I listened to the audiobook, which had a male and female narrator that did an excellent job. I listened at 1.75x speed, which is my normal audiobook speed for adult book.

Thank you NetGalley and Max Monroe for this advanced audiobook copy.

this little book follows two school teachers who double book the same AirBnB for spring break. MMC Mack’s narrator unfortunately did him 0 justice so the audiobook was hard to relate to, I probably would recommend the physical book for this one.. Katy carried the story but her falling for Mack felt off in the beginning. Overall, it was an easy romcom and there were parts that were truly funny. Thank you to Netgalley & the author for the audio in exchange of review!
