Solid 3.5 stars.
Classic storyline of tension filled interactions shifting to sexual tension. Katy and Mack are both teachers, however Katy dislikes Mack until she finds her vacation interrupted by an unexpected Mack!
Enjoyed the writing style however felt it needed more sexual tension. Felt like everything moved quickly. The reason for Katy’s dislike for Mack is because never really dived into since he appears quite likeable.
Overall a good easy read. I’ve read there are tie ins from previous books. Always love those but this was my first by this author. Definitely will look for the condition and pick up another book by then.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
This book for the most part missed the mark for me and ended up being just a meh read. Nothing really stuck with me and things towards the end just happened to align themselves a bit too perfectly.
The narration of this book was good, the male narrator was very into it.
I loved this book so much. It’s laugh out loud funny and bursting with heart. It was fun and sassy and deliciously steamy.
Alexander Cendese and CJ Bloom did a great job bringing these characters to life. Absolutely cannot wait for the next one!
This audiobook was the perfect entertainment for my eight-hour drive. The two narrators were excellent. There was even an introduction that had my sides aching from laughter.
Towards the end the sex was graphic, "Fifty Shades of Grey" graphic. It was a little odd listening to it.
I received this galley from NetGalley.
This was a GREAT story to listen to! AWESOME narration! Great main characters. The plot was easy to find. The story was engaging and easy to follow. Will be purchasing this book. Shout out to Netgalley and publishing for allowing me to listen and review this story.

Happy *almost* pub day to @authormaxmonroe and Best Frenemies! Thank you to @rick_283 and NetGalley ( @netgalley ) for allowing me to read an ALC (Advanced Listener 🎧 Copy) for an honest review!
📅 Saturday, September 16, 2023 is the pub date for Best Frenemies by Max Monroe. The narrators🎙️for this audiobook 🎧 are CJ Bloom & Alexander Cendese. 📅
Wowza! 🤩 This is my first book by author(s) Max Monroe and I think I have a favorite to add to my list. 💕 I absolutely cannot wait to read other titles by this dynamic duo!
✨Note to the reader of this review: Set an alarm ⏰, sleep 🛌 in your tennis shoes 👟, and run 🏃♀️ (don’t walk) to your local bookseller for your copy!✨
The first thing to grab my attention was the title, Best Frenemies. Two words…simplistic in nature but packed with so much detail and meaning for the bookstagram community. Being a huge fan of both friends to lovers and enemies to lovers, NetGalley didn’t have to twist my arm 💪🏼twice to request this 🎧 audiobook.
Upon approval, I was so very excited to dive 🤿 right in. Witty, spontaneous, full of humor, strong character development, and an attraction that can’t be denied.
Katy and Mack work at Calhoun Elementary together. Their classrooms are side by side…which is problematic. Katy is quite calculated (literally, she is a math 🧮 teacher), organized, and type A. Mack marches to the beat of his own drum (also literally, he is a music teacher), is a dreamer, and very spontaneous. The noise level from Mack’s music 🎶 class is a distraction to Katy’s class. Mack’s good looks could be a distraction to Katy but she see Mack as nothing but a hindrance. Forced proximity brings them together, circumstances break down their walls and barriers, and let’s just say the rest is history.
This book is great for any reader that ❤️’s:
💕 Enemies to Friends to Lovers
💕 Forced Proximity
💕 Opposites Attract
💕 Slow Build to 🌶️
This book 📖 is also for the hopeless romantic. *Sigh*
Another hilarious book by these amazing authors.
Cj Bloom and Alexander Cenderse were so incredibly good for this book. My stomach was hurting from laughing so much.
The narrators perfomance was so perfect and fits so well for this story. I'm never disapointed listening to a book reading by CJ Bloom she's so amazing. Alexander was new to me and, well I've adored him, his voice was perfect for Mack's characters.
It was such a great story. I love Enemies-to-lovers, and this one well, damn, I don't know if I have the right words to describes what I felt, it was so good. I Laughed so hard, almost cryed from laughing, I loved everything in it. Now I just want to know when the other book is gonna be release because I'm really addicted.
Before listening to this book, hear carefully the author's note and I dare you to not laugh.
katy isn’t going to let anything get in the way of her spring break even though her best friend got sick last minute and bailed. however, once there, she learns her condo was double booked and the other person is her least favorite person- mack houston. she’s now stuck spending the entire week dealing with him and his shenanigans. after an accident, mack helps katy get to the hospital and cares for her. there is a dynamic switch after that and … they go from enemies to lovers.
if I could get past some of the cringe, you can too. this book has all the tropes: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, only one bed, accidental pregnancy and reverse grumpy sunshine. there’s some spice. there’s some really cute moments. i love that max monroe has created a universe for her characters that make cameos in other books. overall, if you are a max monroe fan, id recommend this one to you, if not maybe start with a different one.
i really like CJ Bloom as a narrator, she reminds me of kristen bell while doing the gossip girl voice over. i didn’t hate Alexander Cendese for the voice of Mack but I didn’t love it either.
This is my first Max Monroe novel, and I really enjoyed their humour .. I was laughing just with the author intro & knew I was in for a fun read! I loved both of the main characters & enjoyed the humour and banter - many laugh out loud moments. I enjoyed the storyline and character development - Mack was full of surprises. If you can handle some spice and profanities I think you'll enjoy this book. I've already purchased another Max Monroe book, Accidental Attachment, since finishing this one.
I listened to the audio edition of Best Frenemies and almost quit after 20 minutes.. I really didn't gel with the male narrator's take on a woman's voice.. very overdone in my opinion. He also spoke so fast at times that I felt rushed. I decided to stick with it though and once I got over that hurdle, I absolutely loved the story & am so pleased I persevered. I think it's one that I would have enjoyed more if I had read it myself. I haven't lowered my rating because I really did enjoy the story and feel it would be unfair to the authors to mark it down based on the narration not sitting well with me - a lot of people seem to have enjoyed it.
Thank you to NerGalley, the authors & publisher for an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
The banter and humor had me laughing the entire time. This forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers romance was so much fun and I loved the appearance of characters and easter eggs from other books written by this duo.
Mack is a fun-loving elementary music teacher, the opposite of math teacher Katy. Katy can’t stand him, so when their spring break vacation is double booked and they are stuck together, hilarity and some spicy times erupt.
I enjoyed the pacing and evolution of their relationship. I had both the ebook and audiobook and ended up binging the entire time thing. I could not put it down.
Reading the editors blurb/description of this book sounded like it would be a laugh out loud, fun listen (or of course read). I really wanted to enjoy it more than I did. Katy was quite likable and a wonderful teacher at a NYC private school and was desperately in need of the vacation she and her BFF planned if for nothing else than to get away from Mack, the worlds most annoying immature human in her or possibly the entire world. He was a fellow teacher who was just a thin wall away from her classroom and she was pretty sure went out of his way to make as much noise as possible just to annoy her. Basically Mack was a man child who got by on his perceived charm, when in fact he was just an annoying child. When her BFF can’t make the vacation she goes alone only to find him there. And so begins their back and forth to their eventual happily ever after. A light enemies to lovers romance.
“…clearly that 2nd of morphine has her flying high into the sedative sky now…”
The author’s note…ummm, I don’t want to even get into that. Kinda gross, not really necessary but also did make me laugh. You’ll have to check that out for yourself. Unique if nothing else
Mack Houston was such an endearing character, loved him from the start. Katy on the other hand, she just confused me. I liked her but never understood why she disliked Mack sooooo much. I get why she’d be annoyed by him and his carefree vibes at times since she was such a stickler for planning etc. but just couldn’t really understand her deal.
One other thing that drove me bonkers was when the male narrator doing a girlie laugh. Cringe to the max. Otherwise loved both narrators.
On to the good stuff because I really did enjoy this book.
👍🏻The chemistry and banter between the 2 MCs is so much fun.
👍🏻Wow. That Vicodin while in bathtub scene 🛀🫧🛁🤙🏻✌🏻
👍🏻The intimate moments of Mack and Katy were really well written and the chemistry between Mack & Katy was well conveyed.
👍🏻 I would absolutely read another book by this duo. Lucky me they have a ton of books I can choose from.
Rating: 4/5
Steam: 3/5
Tropes: Forced proximity, frenemies to friends with benefits, workplace
Thank you to the authors and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Stop! This was so cute and the perfect new Max Monroe book. Filled with all the banter, spice and so much humor.
Things I loved: all the forced proximity. he takes care her. no third act breakup. oops I took pain meds and now I'm way too honest. Katy is type-A to the core and Mack was such a golden retriever...of course they would clash. (in the best way possible). I always enjoy the easter eggs we get from previous books, seeing the billionaire boys back together.
Oh my gosh this book is so freaking good. I can’t decide which I love more Mac or Katy cat ! So many funny moments the beach, the doughnuts oh my gosh ! I don’t even know where to stop. It’s so hilarious, This is what I come to expect when reading this author duo just the hilarity and the spiciness and the swooning this book Oh my gosh, this book is everything! plus this audio book is absolutely amazing omg soo good.
This book was a nice change after reading so many dark romances. And Max has never disappointed me! It was lighthearted and hilarious! I enjoy Max Monroe's writing so much! It's always pretty fast-paced and a good time with a super lovable MMC!

Mack's fun-loving and playful personality was such a good balance to Katy's need to control and have balance.
"He can make even the simplest, most mundane tasks like making breakfast and setting the table entertaining, and I never know what’s going to come out of his smart mouth."

🔹️I love that Max brought Thatch, Kline, Wes, and Cap into this book!!! Their scenes together were hilarious!
“Have no fear,” Cap states. “We got your back, bro.” “First things first,” Thatch announces and puts two elbows to the table. “You’re going to have to lay out all the facts. All the details on your current situation and how it came to be. We’re certified deep divers, but even we can’t make it back up from depth without the proper equipment.”
🔹️Their nicknames for each other were hilarious! I enjoyed how playful they were together!!
He laughs. “You don’t like the nickname?”
"Hate it more than Harry Potter hated Lord Voldemort, actually.”
I love a good Frenemy romance and this one was definitely up there with some of my favourites! This book was enjoyable, funny and had a good amount of spice. The characters were likeable with very different personalities but they both worked well together.. The ending was just beautiful!
Thank you Netgalley, Publisher & Author for allowing me to listen to an ARC! I really enjoyed it!
This book had me laughing out loud and crying with Katiekat.
The male narrator took me some getting use to but after a few chapters I was okay.
The spring break vacation was, to me, the best part. I loved how attentive Mac was to Katie when she got hurt and ofcourse the special ways he celebrated her birthday.
I loved when she finally let go. I knew what was happening towards the end and I was ready for Katie to freak out. She was too funny.
Overall I loved this audio book and would read more from this author.
I honestly couldn't do the Narrator's. I made it 1 minute and 10 seconds into chapter 2 before I couldn't take it anymore. Maybe it's better in print
I could not finish listening to this audiobook. I will try to finish reading the ebook, but the male narrator made the story almost unbearable when listening.
I love Max Monroe and this book did not disappoint. Mack and Katy are teachers who are frenemies. She is a classroom teacher and he is the music teacher, whose classroom is right next to hers. She can’t wait to get away to the beach and be far away from Mack. He actually likes Katy and can’t figure out why she dislikes him so much.
When they end up booking the same place for their vacation things get interesting. I wish I could have a frenemy like Mack. He is actually really nice and altruistic. While spending time together they see new sides to the other. There are some pretty hilarious moments in this book but just as many tender moments.
I liked seeing Thatch and the crew and getting to know Mack and Katy. I can’t wait to see what Max Monroe come up with next. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing Mack and Katy to life. They had me listening late into the evening and I will definitely listen to more books narrated by these two again. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
