4.5 rounded up
I couldn't stop reading. I was so wrapped up jn the live story and wild sex that I didn't see the secret. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
Five stars! This book drew me in from the first page. I loved the characters, the writing is strong, the plot moves at a good pace and there were several twists I didn't see coming that made it even more enjoyable. I'll be looking for more from this author!
This book was wild from start to finish, in the best ways! I did see a small spoiler in another review, which made it a bit easier to deduce one of the bigger plot twists around the 60% mark.
I really enjoyed Layana’s character, and though she was born into privilege and enjoyed many aspects of it, she also had a philanthropic heart and craved a sense of “normalcy” with Lee. I also liked Jillian and the many layers she possessed.
Overall, the twists were great and unexpected, the character depth was good, the writing flowed well, and the steamy scenes were hot!
Wow. All I can say is, wow.
Well I can say a lot more than that, but I just finished this book about two minutes ago and I am in absolute shock at how enjoyable that was. The writing was fantastic and the entire story just flowed so well that once I started reading, I never wanted to stop. I was so invested in the story and what would happen in the end that I just kept reading until it was done. I lost a lot of sleep because I stayed up until about 3am every night to keep reading. I took some detailed notes about my reactions to each part of the book, and I won't share them all but here are some of my favorite things about the book. (Spoiler free of couse)
From the moment the book started, I was absolutely hooked and never wanted to let go. The prologue, while just a few pages long was such a strong way to start the book. The readers are getting a glimpse into the story that is about to unfold in front of us and it is quite the journey to be on. The story just feels so real and relatable in the beginning with the interactions between Layana (FMC) and her parents.
The characters are already fully developed beings by the time we meet them which I love. That isn't to say that there is no character growth throughout the novel, because believe me there is. I felt like the characters on the page were coming to life as they were introduced and they felt real which was really enjoyable. Also, the characters that you're meant to dislike do a great job of making you dislike them and the same goes for those who you're meant to enjoy. I love when the characters know who they are and we don't have to try and figure them out ourselves.
I really enjoyed the mystery aspect to the story because from the start we know that something about this story and/or relationship is going to go wrong and something will unravel, but we don't know what. I liked that there were little nods to it which kept me invested and needing to know what was going to happen. It was important to keep the readers hooked for a story like this and Alessandra did a great job of that.
Finally, I will say that if you're looking for a book that has a plot twist you will NEVER see coming, this is the book for you. If you're looking for a romance with a lot of spicy scenes, this is the book for you. If you're looking to get invested and thrown into a fictional world and connect with the characters on the page, this is the book for you. Even if you're just looking for a beautifully written, cohesive, emotional book, this is the book for you. I honestly could not recommend this book more and without a doubt, I give this book 5 stars.
The original was great however with this revised and expanded version it just built upon the already solid foundation of the book.
Okay, so let me spill the tea on this wild ride. At first, I was totally clueless, living in my own little bubble. But then, boom! The whole picture hit me like a ton of bricks, and I couldn't hold back the waterworks. Seriously, the brilliance of it all? Mind-blowing! Right from the get-go, I was all in – the passion, the feels, you name it.
And can we talk about that unconditional love and support? It hit me right in the feels. Like, the kind of stuff you only see in movies. The suspense had me at the edge of my seat, craving answers like crazy. Then, when the truth came out, let me tell you, it was like stepping into a horror flick.
Emotions? Oh boy, don't even get me started. There were so many, and some were just too much to even talk about without giving the whole thing away. This journey? A total whirlwind of emotions – love, suspense, and then a full-blown horror show. My whole perspective did a 180, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.
Honestly, this experience is gonna stick with me. It's not every day you get hit with such a rollercoaster of emotions. It's like a one-two punch of intense passion and creepy dread all in one package. Kinda messed with my mind, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. It's the kind of thing you can't forget, no matter how hard you try.
I devoured this book in just a little over a day. This book is a journey and I was along for the ride. The story and the writing immediately sucked me in and I needed to know what was going to happen. I absolutely loved how it all played out.
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
Brant a billionaire tech has loved her for four years.
But Lee is cocky and with him sex is great
How can she have them both?
Brant wants marriage- can it work?
How can she marry and only settle for one man?
Intriguing premise... things are not as they seem. Kept me reading until the end though the intro chapter threw me off as I expected it to play more into the plot line and was waiting for that twist to happen....
Like all Alessandra Torre's book, this book is emotional, complex and complicated. I love the love triangle! So torn between who is the best man for the heroine. The characters are so memorable. The twists are so surprising too. Totally enjoy it.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
The best way to enjoy the mindblowing experience called A Divided Heart by Alessandra Torre is to go in completely blind. Let the characters devastate you, make you crazy and ruin you. Let the brilliantly crafted one of the best plots I have read in a long time to consume you. Let the conflicting, messy and powerful emotions overwhelm you. Let the author make you part of an unbelievable journey of seduction, lies and suspense.
It is the story of an incredibly strong woman, Layana Fairmont who lies, stole and cheated for the person she loves. Is it the tech genius billionaire Brant Sharp or is is the completely opposite of Brant, Lee? Or is it something else? Just trust me that nothing is what it feels like or seems like. This story manages to create and transfer such beautiful Savage emotions! I was crying and raging and rambling. I won't deny I was a mess. I won't. This is a powerful love story with ultimate sacrifices and epic happily ever after. I had real panic attacks and I was hyperventilating and I felt the emotional breakdown coming and this is why I read. I did the worst crime of a bookworm as at about 50%, I went to epilogue because I was losing my mind for real. And then came back and finished it with equal love. Layana's strength and dedication is unquestionable. The things she did for love..I cannot process it! Brant is a complex man and so is Lee. Both are intense. Both are obsessed with Laylana. Brant is the polished businessman with his sharp unparalleled genius. Lee is down to earth, unpolished and primal. They both love Layana and she loves them both. But it is not what you think. Never. Such a brilliant take on human mind and it's complexity and diversity. Being a Psychiatrist, I am in complete awe. It was spicy and scorching hot. It was angsty heaven. And the twists keep you on your toes. The puzzle pieces are right there and as they get together, it just blew my mind away all over again.
I will finish with this. I rarely re read books now. But I have started re reading it as soon as I finished. I have a book hangover of century.
PS is it possible to feel heartbroken for a man who wasn't even there...
Thanks Netgalley and the author for the ARC
A Divided Heart by Alessandra Torre intricately explores the complexities of love, desire, and hidden truths. The protagonist finds herself tangled with two different sides of the same man: Brant, a passionate billionaire with unending proposals, and Lee, a confident yet more physical version. Wrestling with her emotions, she's torn between the depth of Brant's affection and the strong attraction of Lee's charms. Torre skillfully creates a story that dives into mixed-up thoughts and unusual longings, capturing readers with its appeal. However, sometimes the plot gets a bit jumbled, covering up certain parts. The reveal that these sides come from one person adds layers to the story's woven fabric. The novel shines a light on the shady parts of human nature, where feelings, secrets, and wanting collide. Yet, the scattered way of telling the story might make it a bit hard for some readers to fully get into.
I don't think I was prepared for this story, but I still devoured it in one day. When I first started reading I thought it was going to be a love triangle from the description, but it was way more than that. Layana comes across as definitely a psycho, she entraps and manipulates to a crazy scale. There is a giant secret of Brant's that keeps them from getting married, so Layana seeks affection from another. The mother of all plot twists I was not expecting happened. The buildup was very long and time jumps to the past, but I think it was worth it in the end. A very tumultuous book about what one woman will do for love. I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Delicious. Devoured it in a day, like I do with any book from Alessandra Torre. She is just too good in every aspect, it’s hard to not be addicted.
I read this book when it came out the first time as Black Lies - I loved it then and I love it even more now. Alessandra Torre has such an incredible way with words and an even more incredible mind - I have never read anyone else who writes like her. Her storylines are so clever and addictive, I always find myself so in awe of what I've read and wondering how she creates such unique stories. This book is absolutely best experienced spoiler-free in order to fully appreciate the twists and turns. Even knowing the secret, I enjoyed every minute of rereading this book, but I am so jealous of anyone reading this for the first time.
Oh my goodness what a ride!!!
This author never ceases to amaze me with her creative arsenal of inventive stories!
This book was hands down awe-some-balls!!!
The author had my undivided attention when she announced that this release was a “bigger and better version of Black Lies”!
Back in 2014 it was my first read by this author and I have loved everything she has written. Fast forward to 2023 and I still remember this story, it was that good, and remains awe-some-balls!!
The plot, the twists,…the revelation…oh my gawd!!
This new version is a must read!
The added content made it richer, fresher, more suspenseful, and more complex!
Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down…
These characters were twisted and beautifully flawed! This book pulled at my emotions as the question of why do we do the things we do when it comes to relationships!
Emotional, heart wrenching, this juicy love triangle situation is like no other!
Let me just say this author does love triangles like no other author!
Read and find out!
