Exit, Pursued by a Bear was such a wonderful book by E.K. Johnston—Pretty Furious doesn't even seem like it came from the same author. The five friends in this small town all felt the same. The only distinctive attribute between them was their parental situation. I'm all about a great friend group, but every girl was exactly the same. It was just boring.

This was a great contemporary YA that dismantled the good girl trope with sensitivity and awareness. I loved each of the characters as individuals and as a collective.

When reading the synopsis the idea of the book is awesome!

This book deals with five girls who use their birthdays as the day to get revenge that's epic!

I enjoyed the book and will recommend

Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review

The idea of the book was great. The book itself was less than. The five girls using their birthday as a day to enact revenge seems perfect, but it really could have been any other day. I think others might enjoy this much more than I did, but 3 stars none the less.

This book was HARD to finish. I had high hopes for it, but I was forcing myself to push through to get to the end. There was a lot going on at times and the amount of people made it hard to follow. Parts of this seemed like the author was just trying to reach a word count or just wasn't as interested in the story themselves.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC of this book!

I was really looking forward to this one, having loved another of the author's books. Ultimately, I found this story to just be ok. Nothing great, nothing horrible. The book follows a group of female friends who each use their birthdays during their last year in high school to wish for revenge of some sort against those in their town who have treated young women poorly. This is an awesome premise and I am here for female rage any day of the week, but the things they did to exact revenge were overall pretty tame and boring. Perhaps that is more realistic for what teenagers might actually do, but it made for a less than exciting book.

I'm pretty furious I even read this book. The blurb lied to us and was filled with five girls using birthday wishes to do petty things they could do on a regular day without it having to be on a birthday. The rage was more like revenge and the finale that was supposed to be suspenseful fell flat. a disappointing read.

This book was enjoyable to read. The five girls plan out acts of self righteousness their last year of high school for each girls birthday. I liked how they team worked to achieve it. And no one has any idea as they are the good girls. Definitely would read more from this author.

The life of these girls has been anything but gilded. They've decided it's long past time that they start fighting for themselves, and fighting for a better future.

Good book with a solid story inside. I really enjoyed the whole book and how the characters played off each other.

Big thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the chance to review this book pre-release. I really enjoyed this book, however I did find it a tad predictable. I enjoyed the characters and it was a fun ride! A more formal review will be available on my IG/TikTok and Goodreads.

In the small town of Eganston, Ontario, five good girls have had enough. They’ve experienced the best of what their community has to offer, but they’ve seen the darker side too. Together, they’ve decided that it’s time for a reckoning and that justice is their privilege to give.

This could have been great but I can only say that it was good. The writing was a little stilted and the plot was a little predictable. Still, I enjoyed it overall.

This was tough for me. I really liked the girls and their friendship throughout this story, but I had a feeling it would be very confusing the second I opened it up and there were three pages just of names of characters and their families. There was just a lot going on and while I did like the story, I think there was just too much happening to be able to follow it clearly.

Thank you SO much to Penguin Group for the ARC of Pretty Furious in exchange for an honest review.

Pretty Furious follows five girls – Maddie, Mags, Louise, Jen and Jenny – who have had enough with the injustices of their small town of Eganston, Ontario, and attempt to bring forth a reckoning that puts right what’s gone all wrong. I’m such a fan of Johnston’s Star Wars books, from Ahsoka to her Amidala trilogy, that I was immediately excited to read something of her own creation and step into her world. As our five good girls take turns making birthday wishes, i.e. plots for revenge, we follow them on a presumed harrowing journey… that left a little to be desired. I liked this book, but I didn’t love it.

While it’s always a treat to read something that is a tribute to the power of female friendship, and while I supported them tackling each revenge, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the final product, and this one was slow for me to get through. There was something about it that was difficult to keep up with, whether it be the expansive history of the friend group or their various family and friends. I really hate to DNF books and what Pretty Furious had going for it was that it was a short read, so in the end I didn’t have to. In this case, it was more of a flame than a roaring fire. Must add more kindling.

the friendship between the main girls was beautifully written. but i wish the book showed us the aftermath of all of the plans they executed. even though this book was an easy read, not including the aftermath was a letdown.

Small towns truly can feel like they were made by the devil, as the saying goes. It can be even harder if you fall outside the lines of what's considered "good" by the majority. That's something that the girls of this story know all too well - they may be "good girls," but that doesn't mean that they don't hear and see what's going on around them. And when it gets to be too much, they take action - because who would suspect the good girls?

Hands down, the strongest part of this book is the epilogue. Not only does it do a beautiful job of bringing the overarching philosophy of the plot and characters together, it also manages to be quietly powerful in a way that the main narrative can't always pull off. But even with what feels like a bit of bloat (I understand the urge to give so much space to the townsfolk, but it doesn't always work), the story of how five girls have just had enough of the blame game people play with girls is solid. Why only blame the girl when she gets pregnant? She didn't do it by herself. Why panic when a girl steps out of line? Boys do it, too. The heroines see this injustices and decide that if people aren't going to see their own hypocrisy, they'll force them to. (Or at least burn some things down along the way.)

It's not as strong as Johnston's Exit, Pursued by a Bear, but it's still a good book about people who are tired of the world not thinking that it needs to change.

Kinda eh. Nice idea but I found it too short, not super thrills and a little ambiguous where it needed to be clear. Thanks for the arc

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I really loved the vigilante good girls get even aspect. My only complaints per se are that the book had a lot of unneeded side characters which made remembering who everyone was and their relation to the main characters confusing at times. I also felt like there was more filler subplots than what was needed and it affected the overall pacing of the story. Overall, I did enjoy the book as a whole though and would recommend

Revenged is a dish best served cold. I did appreciate about this book and its portrayal of female friendships. The main characters were all girls, It was a very quick read which I like. I feel like if this book was any longer it would be tedious to read. Not what I was expecting.. I was confused a lot of the times The actual crimes they commit are mild and are vaguely explained. We don’t really get to see the effect of their execution. The pacing was off, which brings we back to liking that t was a short read.

I would recommend this book to the right audience.
